Gerald Undone hey! I use my xh1 as a B cam to my gh5. My biggest frustrations are the lack of proper monitoring through zebras of waveform, battery life and fat32 like you said. It’s impossible to expose flog correctly without proper monitoring. I noticed yours was overexposed, as mine often is as well. With vlog-L I’m used to exposing a little high and using zebras. With flog it’s impossible.
However! I’m a hybrid shooter. So I use my xh1 for stills and video. I feel eterna and natural on the gh5 match well.
If I was just doing video I’d be using two gh5s or getting a73s

I personally believe the best camera combo today is the GH5 and the A7III. (For now)
I was very excited about the XH1 but disappointed with the actual release for many of the same reasons you've pointed out here. I also found Sony to be the more cost effective choice but what really sealed the deal for me was that the Buffer, Burst and AF was sightly better on the A7III over the Fuji, which I didn't expect. I really like how Fuji cares for their products and customers, but hate how Sony treats theirs. I LOVE Fuji's lens design and price points but I too am still waiting for that perfect Fuji body. (a $2000 APSc 'a9' with 'GH5' level 4K in a big gripped lightweight body please.)
Also I don't like how Fuji handles "custom user settings" but I realize that's inherent with their body design.

They cost a bit more because Fujifilm actually pay their employees. They are made in Japan not in China & the build quality is far superior to most manufacturers. I'm happy to put food on a Japanese table. Sony & other Chinese made products use what equates to slave labour. Not into that.

OMG! We have finally reached the point of minutia with mirrorless cameras! First of all, I am absolutely NOT knocking this review. It is very insightful and spot on for Gerald. At the end of the day...we are all ARTISTS! No two artists will use the exact same brush and color pigmentation to render a scene...and neither will we. I have shot with Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic, and Rico over the years as we transitioned from film to filmless, and one thing remains the same. Everyone shoots a bit differently.
So here is a list of my official favorite photographers (to remain unknown) identified by the cameras they use...
    Fuiji
    Panaosnic
    Olympus
    Rico
    Nikon
    Cannon
    Pentax
    Leica
    Sony
    GoPro
    Have I missed any??
I'm choosing to respond on this particular channel because frankly Gerald...I like your style and obvious knowledge base!
I watch all of these reviews with a bit of humor, and also awe at how knowledgeable each of these professionals are! They know their trade inside out, and make solid recommendations. Gerald - I love your review of the XH-1 (which I now own by the way). After having used it for months, I agree with your assessment. It lacks some capability that would make it a more video-friendly camera, and some of the dial placement/capability could be better. But in terms of individual preference...I love the Fuji color science, the frequent firmware updates, and the ability to shoot jpeg or raw and still get an incredible photo. I'm a 20% video guy, so I will overlook the imperfections since for me Fuji is ideal as a stills camera! Frankly, I also know that they will introduce firmware updates that will make their video capabilities "even more" competitive. And Fuji will continue to push the envelope on photography capability. I recently returned from a multi-week China photo-shoot with acceptable video and awesome stills!
My humble advice - To each their own according to their needs. Be true to yourself and take every review with the grain of salt that it was intended to have! The pros know their stuff, so research the hell out of anything you intend to buy to make sure you get the camera that best suits your needs!

    1) Yes the battery life on Fujis and XH1 in particular is a garbage. However when in photo mode, there's a few tricks that can save a lot of power.
    2) 15:35 Do I see purple fringing in the Sony's picture? But to be fair there's a bit of cyan in the Fuji's.
    3) 7:43 All you have said about dials might be true, but in order to get exposure time in thirds increments is to set the camera's exposure dial on T, and than set the camera on whatever exposure time you want via wheel on the back. You can even set it in half time increments in the menu if you want. But the top screen... I agree... bad idea... really, really bad.
Just note that I'm coming from XT1 and XT2. XH1 would be a nice addition for me since I'm quite invested in the Fuji X line right now, but all in all, as you already said, for me, another XT2 (this time in silver maybe) would be much better bang for the buck.

Thanks for this review. I have an X-H1 so have had time to learn some of the intricacies of the camera. You lamented that with the SS dial you can only set it in full stops. You correctly say that 1/3rd stops can be obtained by rotating the front command dial but that it is necessary to change the top SS dial to the next group to obtain further in between stops. Actually, by setting the SS dial to "T" you can get the full range of stops by rotating the front command dial.

Fair, even-handed review. The problem for Fujifilm is that they're just not quite ready to go toe-to-toe in the same price bracket with Sony when it comes to pure muscle power in the cameras. That hopefully will come in time though with the next generation of Fujifilm cameras, as they seem to be making solid leaps each time.
But I still love Fujifilm because the X-Pro2 is for me the best camera - aside from maybe the Mamiya 6 - that I've ever used. It feels perfect in the hand, the focus-point joystick just where I want it under the thumb. The quiet katana slice of the shutter sound is to die for. It's not a videographers camera. It can't match the Sony for low-light, though it is no slouch. But for photo-documentary and street work, it's just perfect. The rangefinder style allows you to stay connected to the world around you, it disappears in the hand and it's perfect when married with the smaller f/2 lenses. For budding Mary Ellen Mark types out there who can't afford a Leica it's just perfect. I guess it's why quite a few Magnum photographers rock them now.
So I think it would be a mistake for Fujifilm to try to obsess over Sony too much and spend all their resources trying to match their A7 range. I love the ergonomics, the colour science and the form factor. A new X-Pro3 with a Ricoh style snap-focus option and larger and brighter viewfinder would probably just be the perfect camera for me. I wouldn't even be fussed about more pixels, just maybe another stop of low light performance and I'd be happy.
So yeah, I think you're on the money as far as a videographer in 2018, Sony would be the better bet for you - though the X-H1 wouldn't let you down. But me, personally, I'm pretty much wedded to the X-Pro2, X100F and those gorgeous Fujifilm lenses. Cheers!

      @ForgottenChornobyl 6 лет назад +2

I wouldn't call it the same price bracket. The X-T3 right now costs £1260 while 173 £1900 on Amazon UK right now. Lenses are also considerably cheaper and smaller, it might not be much for some people but the main reason I sold my full frame Canon gear few years ago and got the Fuji was that most of the holidays or family trips the Canon would stay home, I just couldn't be bothered to carry it. The battery life sucks but they're tiny so I can have 5 or 6 in my pocket without even noticing and dual chargers cost peanuts on ebay.
I'm sure some pro filmmakers and photographers will find the Fuji too limiting but for most of us it's better to have a camera offering 90% of the quality with you than a much better one at home cause you didn't want to carry it around all day. :) And even then, X-T3 with 200mbps 10-bit internal log beats the A73 hands down when it comes to grading.

I'm like you, I'm a video first guy and video is a bigger money pit than photography. I shoot gh5 and gh4 and go pro 6black. I never got interested in Fuji but for the majority of hobbyists I think they will benefit from Fuji because they can process their images much faster compared to how I do it. Most photo and video hobbyists only have weekends and one or two nights a week to work on their projects so working with video that is already looking good is better than shooting log. They like jpeg better than raw for faster turnaround. If they work that way I recommend the Fuji over the gh5 shooting in log and raw. I tried Sony but that was 4 years ago and haven't since so I know I am not updated. For bigger formats I use Canon c300 or the c300mll.

We run mpeg2 and I think it is 50 mbs. We are here in the philippines and believe it or not that older c300 is pretty common for commercial studios these days. On those projects everything is rented and I am usually just producing so I could be wrong sometimes. And we don't usually have the latest and greatest gear.

Yes! Finally an statement that answer. For us, enthusiast photography who usually a worker at weekdays 8-5pm doesnt have much time to edit things like log for video, learning the basic again and not to mention if you have a family, i dont think you will even have time for yourself anymore. So, a good video footage from the very start will help us to work at our project.

I have both of these lenses (US$650 each on sale) but I mount them on X-T20 (used < $900 with kit lens at < $600 price for the body), making this package 2x $650 + $600 = $1900. Disclaimer: I'm stills first but I do edit raw, no jpg for me unless I want to instagram within minutes of taking the shot. Totally agreeing that replacement of the exposure comp dial by a mini screen on the H1 is a weird break of style.

Hey Gerald, so I picked up a G9 and have been shooting with it for two weeks...and the shutter is driving me nuts everytime I use the camera!
I press it and keep waiting...and waiting for a shutter click, and feel...sooo I’ve got to say that I genuinely hate the shutter mechanism on the G9.
Currently I’m selling the G9 (yes if you can’t tell by now I have camera issues!)
I’m looking at getting both the X-H1 (because it’s stabilized) and an X-T2.....
    As opposed to an X-T3.
How would you compare/ contrast the shutter mechanism on the X-H1 to the G9?
For reference, I LOVE the shutter on the Sony A7iii
    Thanks!

I know what you mean. You'll find the shutter on the X-T2 to be much more satisfying, probably. The X-H1 might annoy you like the G9, but I can't say for sure. I believe with the Fuji you can change it though. You have to send it in for repair, but they can make the shutter less sensitive on the X-H1. I like the one on the Sony as well.

    • @healing2gether
      @healing2gether 5 лет назад

Gerald Undone hmm, I’d like to avoid sending anything anywhere, more opportunities for further damage etc.
I wonder if I get the XT2 for my main photography needs for now, and wait for the XH2 to come out and see if that has more potential to make me happy...or, at least content! And in the meantime I’d probably pickup a panasonic G85 because for the price they are brilliantly capable little cameras! And for my style of video (half vlog/ talking head, half tripod) a G85 would do just great for now.
But dammit, what about that wonderful A7Riii...I loved the images coming out of the A7iii.
Oh my gosh man...I hate decisions 🤦🏼‍♂️ talk about a “Saturated” market!!

Good review. Like you said, if you are a video guy first then there are several better options out there. If photo first, this camera is Fuji's best option in their APS-C line.
As for many of your complaints. Fuji really did what it's customers requested with this body.
    1. They wanted a bigger grip
    2. They wanted IBIS
    3. They wanted a top LCD
    4. They wanted better video
I think in those regards the delivered. The only thing I think the blew it with is not having a flip out screen.

I switched from canon to Fuji for my still cameras many years ago as I really love the fuji glass, i feel they make some of the best lenses. I have owned the Fuji x pro cameras which have all been amazing!. I still mostly use Canon cinema cameras for video. I thought This camera may be the answer to have one camera that can do it all. I also am somewhat disappointed . Its the little things that add up like the battery life. I need to carry around many more batteries now. The only reason I continue to use these cameras at least for stills is their glass is so amazing and their color space is great. They had an opportunity to knock one out of the park. Instead I am somewhat disappointed in this camera. Every previous fuji camera I have bought from them, I aways got the "wow this is the greatest thing ever " feeling after my purchase. For this one I am basically feeling it will make do until the next model is released. i really appreciated your review as it was very objective. I guess as of today I still need to carry around two cameras my Canon c200 for video and my fuji for stills. very annoying as that also means two sets of lenses. Might just be easier to just use my iPhone;)

Very fair review, if at times painful to hear for a Fuji fanboy like me. I believe the strongest argument for the X-H1 is for people who've invested a lot in Fujinon lenses and aren't happy with their X-T2's non-existent IBIS. This is the area where I feel the strongest temptation to change, but your video has convinced me that it's better to wait for what the future brings. I don't have a preference between video and photo, my passion is for photo but I get more work involving video, so both do have to be doable for me, and with the X-T2's latest firmware update, which, as you mention, brings it a lot closer to the X-H1, there's no strong reason to upgrade (or side-grade?). Also, as a design freak, I whole-heartedly agree with your observations about the look of that top monitor. It's an eyesore.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  6 лет назад +1

Definitely. I agree that if you were to "sidegrade" 😄 it would be for IBIS mostly.

I love my Fuji's and the system i have collected and i'm not afraid to say it the XH1 is possible the biggest waste of time, its meant to now be there top of the line camera but the XT2 now does 98% of what it can do and the software in the XT2 is possibly better optimised due to tighter restrictions with the hardware. Possibly making it preform better in some situations but no one has tested that yet but would be interesting to see.
As you say the screen on top is pointless not just from a design point of view but a from a functionality point of view as they have now quadrupled the points of info, in that you can already see your settings in the viewfinder, on the LCD screen (and even larger depending how set the rear screen) and on the manual dials (lens and dials) it just isn't needed, isn't needed on any modern camera.
Its a strange release and should of been released along side either the XT2 or the XT3, stripping the XT line to bare essentials for video making a clear distinction between the 2 camera lines it would also give the XT line room to breath with more resources allocated to auto focus and the like. A bit like panasonic g9 and GH5 lines. Its not a mis-marketed camera its camera that just wasnt needed! its everything the XT3 could of been and more if they waited and they could of just run the XT2 along side it. Just my 2 cents

    • @problemat1que
      @problemat1que 6 лет назад

With that budget, for general photography since you are a beginner, you are looking at mFT or APS-C because you need to pay for lenses. Buy good condition used. Spend less on the body, more on glass but don't buy Canon bodies where you can't microadjust autofocus (i.e. no Rebels), you would find out later your photos are soft. A used 7D is fine though.
Get a normal zoom, a long zoom, plus 35 and 85 equivalent primes like shown in the video (can be F2 or F2.8). That's a great starting setup.
I use Fuji, so here's my example: X-T20+18-55 ($900 used), 55-200 ($400 used). You can get XF23mm F2 and XF50mm F2 for under $400 each used, making a total of $2100. If you want to stay under $2000 to get started, don't get the XF50 but do get the 23mm prime, and use the kit at 55 F4 or the telefocus zoom at F3.5 for portraits (and save for the XF56 F1.2, it's as amazing as everyone says).
In Canon land, you can get 7D (mark one) goes for under $400, don't get the Canon kit lens, it's trash. Get the 17-55mm F2.8 < $500, EF-S 55-250 around $250, and the 24 F2.8 pancake plus the 50 F1.8, together for $350, you're in business with Canon DSLR for US $1500. This one's not so great for video and you have a big heavy DSLR with no exposure preview in the viewfinder and no focus peaking for vintage lenses, if that's your thing.

    • @problemat1que
      @problemat1que 6 лет назад +1

@@mohammedshaheen5340 for landscape, you probably want weather resistant gear. The X-T3 is coming out soon, so the T2 will drop in price very quickly used, if you can wait a few months. If you're in a rush, the T1 is very affordable right now but you won't do any action with its slower autofocus. Will you need zooms for your landscapes/portraits at all? Samyang/Rokinon makes very affordable manual wide angle lenses that I don't mind taking out in light rain for epic landscape shots.

First, great review as always. You spoil us.
Next, note this response is being written in February of 2019.
Finally, it's important to note that the value of any object depends on need and usage-and note well, price and value are far from the same thing.
In that respect, the X-H1, for the kind of shooting I prefer doing, is almost ideal-and it gets more ideal with each firmware update.
What kind of shooting do I do? All video, all hand held, all third party lenses, fully manual, with various adapters.
    No photos!
Disclaimer: I’ve owned the A7III-twice, GH5-twice, and GH5s (which I loved, but lack of IBIS caused me not to be able to justify how little I used it).
It killed me to shoot with the Sony A7III in particular. The EVF/LCD were, at best, mediocre, and that’s being kind-very, very kind.
Additionally shooting fully manual was a nightmare because Sony has the worst peaking/focus assist I’ve ever seen. It’s been the same for years. It’s awful, with no change in sight. That was the real deal breaker for me: You can't focus what you cannot see.
All the pic profiles of the Sony, on their face, seem wonderful. But in practical use, I discovered, there is such a thing as too many choices-and all the image tweaks create more confusion than clarity.
I spend way too much time tweaking and nuancing a profile than actually shooting with the camera. Fap!,
The Log profiles are flat-but I found them difficult to grade and they never looked right.
This is a matter of taste, but I prefer the limited but IMO GREAT choices Fuji offers.
Love Eterna and hand grade it with results that please me a great deal.
With the most recent firmware (2.0) many of your complains and criticisms, just as they are/were, are things of the past-including the obligatory 4 gig clips.
IBIS has been made even better, as well as AF (which I care nothing for)-but many do. Fuji keeps making their stuff better--at no charge to the customer, while Sony pretty much abandon’s models in lieu of their next latest and greatest.
Fuji’s commitment to Kaizen’s philosophy of continual improvement is something that should turn the head of every camera owner-Kaizen is not just a commitment to continually improving products-it’s commitment to customer fidelity. That’s worth its weight in gold.
I never had any issue with battery life on the X-H1 for the kind of shooting I do. With the battery grip you are shooting with 3 batteries-that’s around four hours of shooting. Carry 6 batteries and you’re shooting for 7 or 8 hours easy--few people shoot that much a day.
Build quality, EVF, LCD, etc of the X-H1-far, far superior to Sony…and, IMO, better than Nikon.
The working time in my NLE (FCPX) between clips out of the camera to the finished, graded video is drastically shorter than with the Sony….and no matter how much time I spent I could never seem to get the Sony to actually look the way that would make me say “Wow! That looks great.”-something I routinely say when I look at much of the Fuji footage out of the camera-and it only gets better with minimal grading; love that Fuji look. Is it the color? Hell. I don’t know. But it’s just magnetic-like you don’t want to stop looking at it. Or, at least, that’s how I feel.
Sold my Sony and purchased the Z6-much happier with it-look, color, build, and usage, much better.
But I find the X-H1 easier and more inspiring to shoot with a better finished result than either the Sony or Nikon.
Right now (Feb.3) the X-H1 with battery grip is DIRT cheap. If I didn’t have one I’d get one ASAP.
My ideal: a Fuji X-T3 with IBIS. I’m hoping the X-H2 will bring us close to that.
Different needs and different styles of shooting will yield a different result in respect to how much or how little these cameras are valued by a given individual.
My own experience; the fuji X-H1 is inspiring to shoot-it yields, IMO, artistic results, it's easy to use, and a joyful experience from start to finish.
I like and enjoy many of my present and past cams. But this is the one I love the most.
    I don't think I'm alone.

I could be wrong, but I think you may have things reversed.
Can't say for certain, because normally, I don''t shoot long clips, but none of the clips I've shot are divided into 4 gig segments since the 2.0 firmware update.
I think they fixed the X-H1, but the fix for the X-T3 will be done a bit later--maybe next month.
Tell me, am I'm misreading this?!?
Yes, I know it says the X-T3 fixes the file size, but that was before they actually published the updates. When they did they announced the X-T3 update that fixes the file size will be done later.

If I get a chance though, I'll test out those f/2 lenses. Cheers! 😃

Unfortunately the 23, 35, and 50mm WR lenses are heavily digitally corrected and don't have the same optical performance as the lenses Gerald used.
Those WR lenses have a tapered design so they would not interfere with the OVF on the rangefinder bodies and lots of compromises had to be made. On the plus side, they have weather resistance and silent AF motors!

Gerald Undone Just to be clear I appreciate your perspective on the subject as a Fuji shooter (X-T1, mostly with 27mm pancake for pocketability but also got the 16, the 18-55 and some adapted glass).
Very much agree with a lot of the cricisms (aside from the mentioned lens focus speeds since they changed the type of drive they're using since then) - the battery life in particular is something that, while justifiable with the X-T body due to its size, with the X-H1 I'd have hoped they'd improve on to at least 500-about shots in a single charge. Hope they finally bring us a new battery in the future - and if they can fit it into the T/E-style bodies, even better.
Shutter dial not giving you the smaller adjustments is a pity yeah, but as a stills-only shooter it's not been an issue for me so far - that said, I'm doing this pretty casually and I appreciate a slightly darker exposure, so just going up to the next higher step is often fine for me.
Top display on the X-H1 I'm not a fan of either, and the shutter button felt too much on the spongey side coming from a T-style body. Apparently you can have this adjusted free of charge though, to rather specific levels of clicky- or sponginess, so that's a cool service; does mean it'll take you longer to get the camera though.
Re:vs A7 III - I find that the X-H1 offers much nicer ergos for me over the Sonies and that and the out-of-camera capabilities really are the selling points, but as purely a work horse.. you do get more with the Sony in a lot of ways, which of course sucks to say because I don't enjoy shooting or handling them :P
All in all, I largely agree with what you've said and I'm looking forward to what Fuji takes away from this generation of cameras, seeing how almost every installment of the X-Trans line has made significant improvements in a few ways.
And let's hope they find a way to fit IBIS in the X-T3 - one can dream, right? (..this also said though, I'd probably still keep the X-T1 around since I found the 2 to be a little bit bulky in the hand in comparison - oh well, time will tell, as will shooting more.)
Eitherhow, held you up long enough - have a good day man, and let's see how this one keeps going!

Great video. I just found one secondhand (body only) for less money than a G95. But I think, a G85 still makes more sense. No flip screen is kind of a deal-breaker. Then, with the money I saved buying the G85, I could buy a secondhand XT1 or 2 with a lens.

Hi Gerald, two minor points already, some of the newer lenses are much faster, the 16 to 55 is fantastic, also there is a battery grip, as you say, with two more batteries, which gives you all day action, the camera without the grip is smaller, lighter, cheaper, so it suits some users better. Cheers, Richard.

      Thanks for the comment, Richard!
When you say faster, do you mean faster focusing? Because I thought I grabbed the fastest aperture lenses Fuji has.
And you're totally right about the grip, I just wish we could get that functionality without needing to bulk up so much.

    • @richardharvey1732
      @richardharvey1732 6 лет назад +1

Hi Gerald, yes I did mean Auto-focus speed, the latest lenses like the 80mm macro had very sophisticated triple linear motor focusing drives, when they quote focusing speed for cameras they do not make it clear that the time to acquire focus is a function of the camera's processor and the lens's proclivities combined, so a very fast camera, (XT2), with a very slow lens ( Fujinon 50mm f1.2 for example), will be much slower to acquire focus than the 16 55mm which is almost instantaneous. Cheers, Richard. As to the bulk of the camera with the grip I think you might find reports of some of those tiny Sony cameras suffer from overheating, perhaps you get what you pay for!. The display screen can be customised to show only the information that the user wants. There are all sorts of options available on modern cameras, it has taken me some 3,000 shots on my XT2 be settle on the settings that I want, front function button for back button focus in continuous focus mode, lower 'D' button for picture review, for example. All these modern cameras take ages to master, I'm not sure I ever will!. Cheers, Richard.

Well done review. Although I like the Fuji, I feel the video side of it just misses the mark. However, I cannot wait to see what they have in store for an XH-2!

Best fuji X-h1 review to date. I own the fuji x70, I love it for streetphotography, pretty shit move from fuji to no longer support that camera with updates so fast after the release. Without giving the early buyers a good reason why. I agree with you on all you said about the direction they should go with video. Im keeping fuji for photography and stay with blackmagic for video.

OMG Gerald no offense intended but don't you know that you can just leave the shutter speed dial on A and go to the buttoms menu to assign it to either the front or back dial to have the same controls as a sony!? LOL The criticism of the vintage dials is a non point, they are just great, no downsides to them :) @Gerald Undone

At the time, I did not. Like I said, I was pretty inexperienced with Fuji. Since this video I've played with a lot more Fujis and have learned the quirks like that.

@@geraldundone Hey, thanks for the reply, never expected this, but thank you SOOO much for caring about your subs and listening to them like this! So yeah, glad to hear that you've learned this... The chunky, grippy dials are especially good if you need to use gloves etc. while outside of studio environments as well :)) I love them on my XT-3...

Great review. I started doing videos with my X-T1 and X-T2 and by no means I'm a video pro, I love what I get from it. I did recently upgraded to the X-H1 and I am close to selling my Fuji system and making a transition to Sony.

The fujifilm xh1 is a great camera! I personally think his review is very good but also bias based on personal needs. All of his dislikes were very tedious! I have mostly Nikon gear (D700, D810, D750, D7100. I don't sell my gear) but I also own the sony a7rii and the Fuji xh1/xt10. Trust me when I tell you that the fuji definitely holds its own !!! Sony lenses are waaaaay to expensive! With the price comparison he gave, he could have bought 3 Fujinon lenses (23,35, & 50mm all f2) and the battery grip just as I've done and still coming out better in value than sony. He's a sony fan boy!!! Lol! Check out J.P. Morgan true unbiased comparison of the Fuji xh1 vs Sony a7iii. You will see the Fuji holds its own!!

For Sigma to come out with the 18-35 F1.8 and the 50-100 F1.8 *PRO* zooms that give you full-frame depth of field and light gathering while so-called professional APSC-only companies like Fuji have not given their customers a first party option to match is laughable. Fuji shouldve paid Sigma to develop and make the 18-35 F1.8 in a Fuji mount and then Fuji wouldve sold more cameras. F2.8 "pro" lenses on Full frame sensor in a dark reception hall can get the job done most of the time, thas the reason why I switched to full frame because F2.8 on APSC wasnt cutting it for me in some situations. A Canon T7i with a Sigma 18-35 F1.8 would gather so much more light than any of the Fuji F2.8 "pro" zooms that they can offer for the X-H1.

An interesting review and I think they key point is as you say, you are a "video first" chap and this is where I feel so many reviewers of kit seem to get it wrong because I don't believe in "one camera to do it all" which is the most common approach so all reviews should really differentiate on the intended use of each model. Mind you you would get all the fanboys choking and screaming if as a manufacturer you turn around and said "It's a stills camera with some indifferent video capabilities bolted on because we know that apart from reviewers and wannabe RUclipsrs, 90% of you won't use the video anyway." :)
Whatever kind of imaging you are into, the camera is just a tool, sure an essential one but just something to get the job done the way you want it, it is not a totem pole (I believe you have some of these in Canada, very rare over here in the UK).

I've been reviewing the lesser smaller channels and they all hype the Sony. But they dont even have any video from the Sony. It's like they just hype the specs but dont even produce content.
What are they trying to hide, Gery?

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  6 лет назад +1

I think Sony definitely has a strong fanboy following. I don't really like that kind of attitude, but what are ya gonna do. It happens.
I think some people get attached to a brand so much that they become blind to anything else.
I personally have no real attachment to any brand. About 3 months ago I was working from four different brands for different projects.
I think you might underestimate the importance of specs from what I've seen from your comments so far. I agree that they aren't everything, but they sure help a lot when determining value.
All that being said though, I do think the a7 III has earned the reputation it has. It really is a remarkable device.

Fuji can capture phenomenal stills, but as you unbiasedly demonstrated, film and 'live' could use some tweaks. Again, so straightforward and knowledgeable as to the why and how. Fuji has found a fine investment in you; they have my attention. Let's hope that they take heed as they carry on towards your recommendations. Many thanks once again for your sharing of your experiences of a product available to me. I have been loyal to Fuji since the 80's, and what you have demonstrated here has provided some excitement towards the brand once again. Thanks so much, Gerald. In the United States, it's been a minute since Fuji was on anyone's radar: this video left me with great anticipation. Many thanks.
