Seems like the issue with the continuous auto focus mainly occurs when setting the Dynamic Range to 400 (DR400) which we had for the shots in the review. More about the issue here: www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm-x-h1-video-autofocus-issue-at-dr400/
Thank you for this video! So many other reviewers diminished this camera, comparing it to other brand cameras & did not recommend it because it doesn't have features they want. You focused on image quality & on features necessary to recording professional video, which are the most important aspects of a camera. Fuji lenses are great for video. I'm curious if you now use the XT3 and the XH1 together on production shoots. I look forward to more great videos!
Thank you. This was very helpful. I loved the samples and the pleasant audio. I am starting in video after 52 years in stills. I shoot in school classrooms and at lots of indoor and outdoor events where the Fuji H1 image quality and IBIS will be huge pluses. I have loved the X-T20 but do need the IBIS, as today's gimbals have too many 1-star Amazon reviews, and stabilizers aren't appropriate for my work - "Oops, sorry kindergartner, I banged your head with my Glidecam!" So - thank you, your review helped me understand how the H1 will cover my requirements.
Great video. Would love to see an updated autofocus test video. Can you test the auto focus tracking with 2 people, with people moving? It's more of a real-life test for narrative work. Thank you.
I personally wouldn't switch from the XT2 to XH1 now that Fuji released the 4.01 firmware allowing F-log recording and 120fps at 1080p on the XT2. I mean, the XH1 may have a few improvements, but I'd simply switch to an upper level machine.. just my opinion tho (and I love many of the Fuji color presets anyway)
Germany is such beautiful country. I lived there for 4 years and I only have great memories. I wish I would have been a photographer back them but I wasn't :(
Best review without a doubt. In the end of the video you say that the X-H1 is an improvement for having LOG, 1080p and IBIS. The first 2 will be available for the X-T2 in couple weeks with a firmware and I will buy a gimbal (Crane 2) anyway. In your sincere opinion is worthy paying extra for the X-H1 for doing professional videos and travel photography? A refurbished X-H1 costs 1580€ here in France and a refurbished X-T2 990€. Which one would you take if you had to choose one and why? Danke Janisch! :-)
Hi I’m new to codecs and I’ve heard somewhere that ProRes is a 10-bit codec? If it’s true then the Fuji X-H1 can film in ProRes with an external recorder is so essential it’s filming in 10-bit?
Klasse Review der Fuji! Bin auf deinen Test über die Fähigkeiten der Face Detection gespannt aber ich schätze mal an Cannon wird auch diese Kamera nicht rankommen :)
Question: Am I able to connect an external field monitor to the xh-1? This is very important to me as I do not see any videos o this. Thank you to anyone in advance
Moritz, thanks for a great review on a manifestly crappy weather day. I have a few questions I you don't mind. When you use the Rokinon-style cinema lenses do you use a speed booster. mount? Despite its weaknesses I'm seriously considering buying this camera because of its color science and film simulation---which I like better than Panasonic and MUCH better than Sony. I shoot a lot hand held and MF. I'm assuming the IBIS would work with the non-electronic cinema lenses as well as FD mount lenses with a speed booster. Am I right? Finally, do you think Fuji might be talked into adding zebras and waveform in a future firmware up date? Of do you think it's easy enough to be correct exposure with the means Fuji presently provides?
Fantastic video & THANK YOU for sharing! How do you maintain AF while shooting video? My copy struggles to maintain AF on video (DR set to 100%). Thanks!
Tolles Video!!!!
i am a videomaker myself, could anyone recommend a lens for this camera for video? i shoot music videos, short films, advertisements and indoor videos in studios. i have both outdoor and indoor requirements. i am worried about having too much exposure when shooting outdoors, especially during peak daylight hours (eg:10-4) could anybody recommend ONE lens that fits all or TWO lens, if ONE lens doesn't meet all of my requirement. thanks a lot!
I just bought the body today, plan to use it for some BTS musician/tour bus/concert footage. I also hope to make music videos and use for commercial projects. I have the 18-55 f2.8-4 right now. Renting for my job the 50mm f2, and the 23 f2. Ideally the 56 and the 16 would be great when I can afford them.
Thanks so much for this video man. I've been having a really hard time because I LOVEEEEEEE everything about Fuji. It feels like the new Leica: luxurious & not-cheap. But like many have bemoaned...it's not full frameeee. Of course you can get premium glass...sure but getting all premium glass & basically being stuck around an equivalent f1.8 (1.2 crop) kinda sucks. I wish they'd make a "smart" focal reducer/speed booster. I don't wanna go to Sony, but for basically same price (body only) you get full frame, INSANE battery & legendary auto focus....and eye auto focus for portraits. That's huge. Glass is by far almost twice as expensive though so that's definitely a thing...but I'm sincerely contemplating it although I love Fuji better
Really, no talk about the linear focus feature? This is what I wanted to know. Because, no precision in pulling focus is a deal breaker. Great video though!
Maurício Togawa linear focus is really nice. Fuji lenses were already much better than most for manually focusing, but the new linear option is fantastic. Hoping it comes to X-T2 via firmware.
Thanks for the response! I've made steps to get both camera's next week so I'm going to figure it out myself. But I asked him because I respect his opinion. It's the reason you and I are looking at his work right?
What is the issue with 15min recording limit? In all videos/ footage I see on the internet, there is hardly a scene with more than 30sec of continuous recording till the next cut. Mostly less. So how is 15min not enough?
Can anyone tell me what tripod setup is being used in this video? It looks super sturdy yet lightweight. I've tried searching Manfrotto's site but none of the photo or video tripods look exactly like that one. Great vid btw. Thanks for sharing all that info!
Great review, love Fuji's color science for both video and photography. I just can't get into Sony, don't like the A7 III's downgraded screen/viewfinder and build quality. The Fuji and higher-end Panasonic GH/G series are built like tanks!
Unfortunately, the batteries short life makes it unusable for event videos for me. Just know that with the battery grip, video recording stops when one battery is close to depletion. Great camera for photos but I went with GH5S for video even though I prefer the colors on the X-H1
Damn look good. But need the battery grip for headphone jack and 15mins more 4k recording time is kind bad. That put the total price over sony a7III. Which kind hard for me to choose fuji over sony. I like the fuji color and the better ibis. But other than that. Sony is better. Full frame, Better video auto focus, better low light.
Isnt the IBIS better when OIS is off?? Nice video, subscribed. How do u attach a Samyang lens? What adaptor? *not perfect but definitely in the right direction, totally agree! Cheers :)
Yes just saw that on their website, i never knew. And about IBIS, isnt better with OIS off since there will be stabilization syncing problems? Thank u again
Und die Sony Fanboys könnens immer noch nicht begreifen das die Fuji die schöneren Farben ohne viel Aufwand liefern ...es ist so und wird immer so sein :-)
how can i choose this over a7iii at $2000 price point? also iso is clean even at iso 25k or even 51k which is several times better than XH1? better AF aswell and better battery life... can shoot 4K HDR... dont tell me about colors since i can do that in post.. there are lot's of tools for post processing.. shooting flat is the best for color grading afterall.. dynamic range is better on full frame aswell.. has headphone jack aswell...
Edward Yin i know they are trying.. but what's with the price point? that's a full frame price already.. and xh1 got problems on AF, rolling shutter is a mess aswell.. see "Kai W" and he reviewed xh1... i know it's the same on a6500 but its better on a7iii and was already identical to gh5 when using super35 mode... peope keep saying color profiles/ color tones and film simulation, but in reality, film makers will choose flat profile to be graded later on with their own editing style.. dynamic range isnt better against a7iii aswell... i would rather have thay insane iso performance than having 200mbps recording.. as it will allow me to have less problems on any lighting scenario.. also, they might say better stabilization, well come on... film makers would definitely have gimbals... that isn't an issue..
You should try them both & then decide. I thought I wanted a specific camera based on specs but then I tried it & I found I couldn't stand the way it functioned & felt.
Loopsrainforest there's already reviews on XH1 on real usage.. i've seen those issues on Kai W's review.. rolling shutter isnt good which is similar to a6500, AF is no good on a not so good lighting... when it works, its fine but when it doesnt work, its totally unusable... try to check his review.. he tried to use it on field.. and tried action video.. 2 things are already negative which is fine on a7iii... plus on crop sensor, you loose 1 stop vs a full frame and FF has an advantage on lowlight.. fov and dof is also better on FF.. ergonomics are both fine with tons of custom keys and dials.. i already knoe fuji has better IBIS due to smaller sensor however isnt an issue as film makers use gimbals or stabilizers... again, colors isn't an issue for both photo and video as you can do that on post.. that's why it's hard to take XH1 against a7iii.. if budget is tight, there are tons of 3rd party lenses which works well ok a7iii and does have an AF.. also, takenote of on the highlights side when recording video, it stutters when changing exposures... again, check kai W review on xh1 and these problems exists.. also what's with the electronic shutter? its still noisy on burst.. that's totally silent on sony when using electronic shutter which makes candids effective... no annoying sound when in certain events
I'm guessing from this comment that you don't own or have experience with either Sony or Fuji cameras & have watched allot of youtube celebrity reviewers. I watched Kai's review & he seemed to love the camera. Sony cameras have lots of features but lenses are ridiculously priced & massive, lens adapters (for photography) are always disappointing, you DO NOT lose 1 full stop of light with a smaller sensor no matter how small it is (this is science, but noise will of course increase with a smaller sensor), depth of field & bokeh does change a little but for video thats hardly a consideration & with f/1.2 or 1/4 primes & f/2.8 zooms its fairly minimal, the sound of the electronic shutter on Fuji has always been adjustable & of course its obviously silent if you want it to be. Fuji updates firmware in their camera's & lenses a few times a year and even updates five year old models. In fact they brought 4k recording to an older model just a few months ago as well as faster auto focus. I'd expect major upgrades with AF & even smoother ibis in a couple months. I shot full frame & APSC Canons for years & was disappointed with allot of my APS-C images but the Fuji sensor combined with the lenses blew me away even for landscape photography. I tried allot of cameras & kept my Canon & L glass for a long time before actually switching completely.
ummm a lot of people honestly. I mean, I shoot with Sony but originally I shot with Fuji and they definitely have the better glass in my opinion and cheaper too
I've been shooting Panasonic GH cameras for many years. Much more choices of glass with M 4/3 than either Sony or Fuji. Can't get much better quality than the Leica and Olympus glass. You can spend a lot or less on M 4/3 glass- a well rounded range of choices.
You can use battery grip and an external monitor (or tablet) for "selfie mode" of recording, and with this you can do great photos not only great videos
2100$? WHATTT????? The Sony a6500 had every feature mentioned in this video already built in a year ago and costs a FRACTION of that.. What on earth is so great about this camera that it costs over 2000$? The videoquality compared to a 6K sensor readout from Sony is utterly sh*t. And the best is the conclusion: "It's not perfect but a right step in a good direction..." Really? - The closing line should be: "If you wan't more, save 2000 more and buy a real filmmaking camera like the BM Ursa 4K." Because that would be honest.
Kevin Antonow That would be also my question. Is it worth it to buy this over the a6500? The 120fps seem at least better and rolling shutter won't be as worse. But other than that? Better colors? Lenses?
A6500 is for video only. It's ergonomic is so bad, it's just unusable for full menuasl control. Should we talk about no good lenses for Sony Aps c? Bad ibis for video, small EVF, dim screen on 4k... Sorry, but a6500 is for kids. It's just like real pro buy 5div, RUclips kids will buy A7iii...
Kevin Antonow The video quality on this camera is not "utterly shit " compared to no any other camera. Actually in Eterna looks 10 times better than any color Sony ever managed to squeeze
I need to say video quality is one of the best i seen on youtube! Keep great work!
Great review. One note - 17:9 is actually WIDER than 16:9. In the video the 17:9 overlay is narrower. It should be the opposite.
Great work on this Moritz!
What a great camera, The city looks very relaxed and peaceful

I know this was just a review, but I have to say your production quality always blows me away. Thanks
wonderfull camera
Another great video. Clean, beautiful and straight forward. Thank you for your work.
An excellent review and high quality filming loved it F & J!
There is a typo at the description. Fantastic video as always :).
Thank you for this review. Did you use the camera extensively after this video?
Great video. Would love to see an updated autofocus test video. Can you test the auto focus tracking with 2 people, with people moving? It's more of a real-life test for narrative work. Thank you.
Great video. Love the quality.
wonderful review, really nice looking image. I appreciate the professional quality of this.

Solid review, great work 👏👏
1:07 to avoid aliasing what ?
its screen is fixed or tilting or fully articulating ? and what do you when X-H2 will be announced ?
Thanks for the great review. Love that Fujifilm color
Germany is such beautiful country. I lived there for 4 years and I only have great memories. I wish I would have been a photographer back them but I wasn't :(
Very interesting review!
Thanks, glad we could be helpful.
Great review, thank you, exactly what I was looking for.

Hi, why is there a record time limit with, or without the battery grip?
how about the Xt3 compare to the Xh1? have you guys tried the xt3?
Clear review! Great job!
Excellent video really cover all the details. Great quality and perfect English😎🇦🇺👍
Nice review. What cinema lenses do you generally use with your Fuji cameras?
I need this camera in my life! :(
What tripod are you using in this video please?
For some reason 200mbps is grayed out on my X-H1 and I am at 2.01 firmware.....very frustrating!
Thanks so much for your review, it really convinced me!
Nice vid .Is this Tubingen around 7.58?
THIs CHannel needs more attention the content is really good
I love the way you pronounce “moire” haha it sounds so much better than when Americans say it
Emile Modesitt I’m American and i admired the same thing 😆
Great video Thanks! ...getting mine next week...I have 2 XT-2's and a X-T20...
Thanks for the review! What fluid head do you use / prefer for the x-h1?
thanks 4 d video .....do u think xh1 is capable of supporting 4k at 60fps....thrrough future firmware update?
was the other footage filmed with a gh5?
Question:
Am I able to connect an external field monitor to the xh-1? This is very important to me as I do not see any videos o this.
Thank you to anyone in advance
Amazing Video! The camera looks pretty good.
By the way, not all long lenses are telephoto. A telephoto lens means the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length.
Please fix a mistake at 2:36 - DCI is wider vs UHD...
Sorry, you did a good review. =)
Tolles review, sehr aktuell wenn man versucht eine gebrauchte H1 abzustauben :)
Thanks for the video mate
Moritz, thanks for a great review on a manifestly crappy weather day. I have a few questions I you don't mind.

waiting an xt3 review from u guys

sehr gutes Video. eine Bemerkung am Rande 17:9 ist doch etwas breiter als 16:9?
which is the best camera to make a movie Hindi film x H1 ways Canon EOS 80d the best option to of this
i am a videomaker myself, could anyone recommend a lens for this camera for video? i shoot music videos, short films, advertisements and indoor videos in studios. i have both outdoor and indoor requirements. i am worried about having too much exposure when shooting outdoors, especially during peak daylight hours (eg:10-4) could anybody recommend ONE lens that fits all or TWO lens, if ONE lens doesn't meet all of my requirement. thanks a lot!

Bradley Dailey That's nice! Thanks Bradley!
Good review. Thanks.
Great video. How would you compare this camera to the a7sii? And would you get the a7iii instead of this one?
why don't you try them instead of asking a stranger to decide for you.
Thanks for the response! I've made steps to get both camera's next week so I'm going to figure it out myself.
But I asked him because I respect his opinion. It's the reason you and I are looking at his work right?
Great review!
Nice video sir, keep it up!
What is the issue with 15min recording limit? In all videos/ footage I see on the internet, there is hardly a scene with more than 30sec of continuous recording till the next cut. Mostly less. So how is 15min not enough?
RIGHT!
Great explain 👍
Can anyone tell me what tripod setup is being used in this video? It looks super sturdy yet lightweight. I've tried searching Manfrotto's site but none of the photo or video tripods look exactly like that one. Great vid btw. Thanks for sharing all that info!
I don't know about the legs but the video head is a Manfrotto. A great guess would be the 502A. I own one of those too.
Excelent videos, please how edit color grading type cinematic in SONY VEGAS
There is 120fps on XT2 also now :)
Good video! - Any reason, why I shouldn´t buy the Sony A7iii instead?
Try them both before you buy an expensive piece of gear.
loved fujix-t2 but the biggest reason i got rid of it is the battery.
using tiny ass battery and never improve it... :(
Great review, love Fuji's color science for both video and photography. I just can't get into Sony, don't like the A7 III's downgraded screen/viewfinder and build quality.
The Fuji and higher-end Panasonic GH/G series are built like tanks!
What the F is F-log.
Muhammad Rifana Haha I was laughing also 😂
I laughed so hard too hahaha
Pretty impressive Filmkamera
Unfortunately, the batteries short life makes it unusable for event videos for me. Just know that with the battery grip, video recording stops when one battery is close to depletion. Great camera for photos but I went with GH5S for video even though I prefer the colors on the X-H1

I like the fuji color and the better ibis. But other than that. Sony is better. Full frame, Better video auto focus, better low light.
Is this camera weather sealed?
Yup.
nice camera but i think its competitor, the sony alpha 7 iii, is the better choice for filmmaker
In Fuji X-T2 we can shoot at 120fps with new firmware
Isnt the IBIS better when OIS is off??
Nice video, subscribed.
How do u attach a Samyang lens? What adaptor?
*not perfect but definitely in the right direction, totally agree!
Cheers :)
Malek Fleifel - Video Producer Samyang makes a lot of menual lens, cine or photo, for x-mount, no need for adapter.
Yes just saw that on their website, i never knew.
And about IBIS, isnt better with OIS off since there will be stabilization syncing problems?
Thank u again
Good job brother
Moritz, how do you judge exposure in video without waveform or zebras?
How do you expose F-log? ETTR?!?!
Out of Date info any updates since the firmware updates.....
Hallo Moritz, super gemacht!
Excellent video. It seems like the European photographers have way less problem with the new camera the X-H1 then Americans. I wonder why.
how can i choose this over a7iii at $2000 price point? also iso is clean even at iso 25k or even 51k which is several times better than XH1? better AF aswell and better battery life... can shoot 4K HDR... dont tell me about colors since i can do that in post.. there are lot's of tools for post processing.. shooting flat is the best for color grading afterall.. dynamic range is better on full frame aswell.. has headphone jack aswell...

6:40 German humour.
What the F is F Log. German humour FTW.
"What the F is F-log" HA
15 min recording limit without grip and 30 with, no headphone jack in the camera and no articulating screen? Why would anyone buy such a camera?
ummm a lot of people honestly.
Let's be honest, we are getting the A7III
unfortunate fact
what the f is flog😂😂
Lenses?
Kevin Antonow following
Bingo: Ergonomics, colors, ecosystem and support. It isn't always about top specs and features.
Great review!
