You probably could have saved yourself a tremendous amount of suffering by not implementing the "only poison damage" rule, but the climax kind of makes it worth it. For me watching this, I mean, not for you, you experienced torment beyond words.
I gotta imagine being able to finally attack that spider after hours upon hours sacrificing hundreds upon hundreds of white pikmin was super cathartic at least.
Yeah, personally I think this kind of does more harm to the challenge than good. I watch this to see if it's purely possible and what obstacles you come across doing a restricted challenge. Adding an arbitrary element that has nothing to do with the challenge though heavily distracts from the core question. Even worse if the issue comes up that normally wouldn't be an issue but "Up this enemy doesn't eat, so I can't kill him" or "I ran out of pikmin cause I had to feed them to enemies so I couldn't complete this floor". It's like saying "Can you beat Super Mario 64 without jumping, and by the way I'm also not allowed to use caps either." and being walled because you chose not to use caps even though otherwise getting 70 stars is more than doable without jumping. I'd say leave the extra restrictions out unless they otherwise trivializes/defeats the purpose the challenge (like using an uppercut move in lieu of a jumpless challenge or using a CPU partner in a "no abilities run" in Kirby.) or the added challenge actively contributes to the quality of the run (e.g. "limiting cave revisits so you can't farm white pikmin when you lose them, making this more of a resource management run so you can't just farm whites to brute force a puzzle). Only feeding enemies whites to kill them with poison....already fails at all enemies that never eat and is completely unnecessary.

The day 270 day counter had me dyingggg, I love that you're starting to turn the Pikmin challenges into a story/narrative at the same time, super entertaining!
I don’t know if you find this out later in the video, but the essential treasures reduce their weight if you don’t have enough Pikmin to carry them. So if you had no reds in the final floor, the knapsack would need the exact number of Pikmin you have left.
Would that account for the pikmin that need to be sacrificed to kill the boss, only setting it to the number of pikmin you have when it spawns, or is it based on the number you have when you enter the floor?
@@metroidnerd9001 Its one of the games few grace mechanics done so if you had a REALLY bad final boss fight you can still leave with the final treasure so long as you beat the final boss. This is done so you don't have to restart the floor, or beat the final boss of the cave again just to get the final treasure if you are left with or entered in with an insufficient amount of Pikmin to pick up the bosses item after you beat them.
This is helpful to know, but of course he usually has a few reds walking around with him so it'll never restrict the weight to the amount of whites left
Personally I think you shouldn't have added the extra challenge, and just allowed yourself to throw the white Pikmin at enemies but still an awesome video!
I feel like the "extra challenge" here was a bit unnecessary and if had to be included, probably should've been trying to make enemies die via poisoning when possible and if it wasn't, resort to good ol swarming and throwing. Have a feeling though it was probably included though to just differentiate the video from the blue and purple pikmin videos, which admittedly is: fair enough.
About 20 minutes in. I feel like when there's no time limit that would cost you the run, the idea of denying yourself a basic action like attacking directly makes this stop feeling like a challenge run and more like just a waste of time. It's senseless to deny yourself a means of damaging enemies that can't ingest Pikmin if you're going to make up the difference farming enemies anyway.
I love how Press A is intentionally making the run harder for himself just to make the run funnier. He could have farmed an unlimited number of white pikmin from the Snagret Hole at any time (which is probably what he does later in the run to prepare for the Dream Den), and he probably could have gotten more pokos from the Bulblax Kingdom OR the Snagret Hole than he could in the Emergence Cave. But he made people think that going to the White Flower Garden over and over again was the only option because it was funnier. And he went through the extra torturous process of bringing a maximum of 34 white pikmin at a time into the Emergence Cave over and over again, getting only 68 pokos every OTHER day and taking 270 days to complete the run... JUST because it was funnier to do it that way.
I think not having the whites attack things took away more than it added. Since you can just infinitely grow whites, the only thing it did was arbitrarily lock off treasures that would have been perfectly obtainable with just whites. They're already the weakest attackers (tied with blues, yellows, and bulbmin), so it's still a challenge to fight. Just on par with blues in that aspect.
Despite everyone saying the extra challenge of not attacking is too much, I love the idea, but I agree that it just stalls your progress because of the stupid limitation of 40 pikmin, it would be a manageable challenge otherwise (well still a pain but way less backtracking) Anyway cool video as always!
Pretty much what I would do as a matter of course. I don’t care if their deaths cause massive damage, I freaking HATE losing Pikmin. Especially when it’s that hard to restock their numbers.
so, i really appreciated the ending. mostly cuz i hate loui, but i think the 'only killing things by poison' was... unnecessary... namely because i don't think it added anything meaningful... besides just pain and time. I like challenges that actually challenge you, coming up with interesting solutions, alternate strategies, etc. Even if you had left it at 'any enemy we can kill with poison, we have to' but i guess... by the technical definition... you can beat pickmin 2 with any colored pikmin... as long as you're just willing to grind out enemy bodies long enough.
A pretty fun Pikmin 4 challenge is the "Onion Only" challenge. Basically, until you retrieve an onion of a specific pikmin type, you are not permitted to use that Pikmin species in the overworld OR bring them with you into a cave. You CAN use the ones found in the cave, but once you leave they are to be stored away, much like the Bulbmin. Doing this run actually was really interesting since it lead to me rescuing olimar and getting both the white and purple onions BEFORE I got the water, ice, and rock onions..
I feel like a "no attacking enermys" challenge might be more intresting as it's own thing (Since whites let you kill some things, and the other colours give access to most places). I wonder just how much of the game can be completed that way. (obviously the final boss is out)

Even if I know on a fundamental standpoint how much white pikmin really limited your access in areas. I'm honestly super happy to see you use my favorite pikmin of all time. Seeing the poison death was interesting, but it honestly just made my opinion that it was a cop-out to give the white pikmin a bit something more when compared to the nigh indomitable purple pikmin that share the candypop limit with them. Been loving the videos! Absolutely subscribed now, when I probably should have done that after watching about 4 of your vids back to back XD
I love the added detail of the 287th day entry and the storytelling at the end! These challenges are interesting in the ways that you need to break the game, and the certain advantages (or disadvantages) you have with each Pikmin in each game.
Well this run sounds like hell… can’t wait to see how this goes, as I think your pain requires validation 😅 Edit# having finished the video the grind to 10000 pocos must have been truly awful so fair play! I hope you keep doing more pikmin challenges including pikmin 4 where you can eventually just grow all of them though they are gated and may take longer to get access to but looking forward to whatever you come up with 👍🏻
For the montage of farming babies for 2 poko's i almost expected Drown Pools - Bodies for the montage since you were literally dropping pikmin bodies for enemy bodies.
The weight of the boss treasure will adapt to your pikmin left. But since you had reds with you the game didn't need to decrease the weight. And it would have been cheating I guess
I was just enjoying this video on my other monitor until about halfway through where I looked over during you talking about the underwater gate in Valley of Repose and audibly said "DAY 289??" You're a trooper dude, loving these challenge runs.
..so you suddenly turned this into a poison damage only run instead of a flat white pikmin run... doesn't really feel to me like we are lining up the full capability of these pikmin vs the others.. but lets see how it goes. Can you actually leave louie? screw that guy...
I hope these Thumbnails will become a staple for these videos. They are hilarious. Also after hearing you'd make a whites only run while only being able to attack by poisoning, i thought this will be impossible because many enemies don't attack by biting. Breadbugs, Dweevils, Gattling Groink, Water Wraith, Man-At-Legs... This is going to be interesting to watch.
Hey. Press A. I've got a few questions for you. ...Why would you do this to yourself? Are you okay? Do you need help? Your self-flagellation earned you a like and a comment, though. I shouldn't be encouraging this kind of behavior.
White Pikmin can attack, just poorly. Yes, sacrifice is often the most efficient way they have to kill, but sometimes it's better to take longer (especially in caves, which don't have a time limit) and have more Pikmin to carry treasure.
This is why the extra restriction takes away from the video. Since he's actively losing pikmin (unnecessarily) to kill enemies, this means the solution is "more farming" and thus he's going to waste more time getting "ammunition' so he can tackle more caves, which isn't the reason people think white pikmin only would be difficult. Hate to say it, but that added restriction kind of ruined the video cause it signaled what kind of run this would be, despite the purple and blue run proving there are plenty of interesting obstacles white pikmin have to deal with.
If you weren't aware, the submerged castle doesn't have any ivory candypop buds in it anyway, only violet. So you could see it as a sort of blessing that you got stopped early before you were severely disappointed.
i need to confess that the first thing i thought seeing the title was "Can You Beat Life With Only Whites?" and i saw the title a few hrs i think after you uploaded it, then i was kinda just left with that popping into my head intermediately throughout the day whenever i was left alone with my thoughts.
So what about a no pikmin combat run? As in, only the player can attack the enemies. Im sure on pikman 2 that it would be too easy with no time limit, but pikman 1 or 3 with the need of time might make it interesting.
This run was insane! I can't believe you farmed all those white Pikmin without destroying that paper bag. And why did you only killed enemies with poison? The last 3000 pokos with only collecting dead creatures, which you can only kill with Kamikaze pikmins, this looks like too much work for so little reward. This guy must be one of the most patient people of all
And this is why, in every Pikmin game where they appear, I call the white pikmin my suicide squad. Not because I let them to die, but because they are always the one to die eaten among all the other types (Yes, I throw every type of pikmin in combat)
I love how your PTSD with the final boss from previous runs makes you have to kill it with the white pikmin, quite a funny climax. I would love to know though how long it took you to grind out the money for the debt since the repetitive killing of the same enemy in the same place is what drives people to madness.
I never played pikmin so i was thinking the whites couldn't attack, but the comments indicate that was just extra challenge. I suppose that's ok if they essentially play like everything else outside of their special powers.
Poison damage only? I can already tell the snagret hole is gonna be a fun 15 or so trips, assuming you can even make it there (which is likely, I think). Props dude, the suffering must've been immense. Edit: I very often forget just how few enemies are required to be killed in most dungeons. I'm too used to doing a clean sweep of every floor lol.
Assuming no deaths and also that my math is correct, 22 pokos per poko collecting day (as opposed to white pikmin collecting day) would leave 136 or so days to get 3000 pokos, and 3 white pikmin being fed per those 135 days leaves 45 white pikmin; are 45 white pikmin worth 3000 pokos? idk but i'd like to think theyre worth more tbh
the way ya talking is so funny xD, like a sad sing song. btw. when will ya do the next challenge against lemon? gotta kick his butt to make him feel alive after all!
By far my favorite pikmin so I’m very happy to see this video I love white pikmin bc they make everything feel so smooth for example collecting barries or treasures
Please do Pikmin 4 without Oatchi. I tried it myself, and there’s some really interesting things that you can’t do. I’d love to see how you get around some of it.
Dude. I would have totally crushed that paper bag instead of doing that trick hundreds of times. You already proved it's easy enough to do, so crushing the bag would have done nothing but save a shred of your soul.
the poison rule was pretty unnecessary and made the video very repetitive. Also, one of the later caves lets you farm as much purple and whites as you want, I think you could of made it with your rules but I honestly kinda checked out.

Well this run sounds like hell… can’t wait to see how this goes, as I think your pain requires validation 😅
Edit# having finished the video the grind to 10000 pocos must have been truly awful so fair play!
I was just enjoying this video on my other monitor until about halfway through where I looked over during you talking about the underwater gate in Valley of Repose and audibly said "DAY 289??" You're a trooper dude, loving these challenge runs.
the president watching Olivemars and louis take 270 days to repay the debt: da heck they doin' over there?
Subscribed! I love your videos-very impressive and interesting stuff!
YO ITS HIM
..so you suddenly turned this into a poison damage only run instead of a flat white pikmin run... doesn't really feel to me like we are lining up the full capability of these pikmin vs the others.. but lets see how it goes.
Can you actually leave louie? screw that guy...
eyy i was early for a vid for once, lemon introduced me to your vids and they are so damn good
ps, discord ping at 6:10
ah, so I'm not the only shmuck who thought they had a discord notification. good times.
I know so annoying… lol
I hope these Thumbnails will become a staple for these videos. They are hilarious.
Also after hearing you'd make a whites only run while only being able to attack by poisoning, i thought this will be impossible because many enemies don't attack by biting.
Breadbugs, Dweevils, Gattling Groink, Water Wraith, Man-At-Legs... This is going to be interesting to watch.
I think this challenge was my favorite one so far. The pikmin going crazy at the end was such a good idea
Hey.
White Pikmin: Why are we still here just to suffer.
I love ur content, keep making it! You made my week with that video!
Early in the vid, but the can only use their poison damage feels very tacked on to the overall rule. But I trust you'll find a way to pay it off
all i can ever say is that you have more patience then me cause i would have given up on the 5th trip to white flower garden.
Quirked up White Pikmin, goated with the spicy sauce, busting it down (flower style)
Please never stop the Pkmin content I love it so much
White pikmin will always be my favourite, they just so cute nyoom nyoom lil guys
I subbed, i been listening to your videos while im at work usually
I enjoy the fact I found you shortly before the exchange program started up between this and the Fire Bomb Academy. It was cool to see it happen
With the final boss, you're not *technically* damaging him, you're just knocking off his weapons.
now THAT is a challenge run. amazing dedication
I think the "no attacking with white pikmen" rule was unnecessary.
Ur absolutely insane for doing this run I love it!
The added challenge of not letting them attack was entirely not worth it
6:18
you can also tell when you have all treasures on a floor as the pikmin will sing a different song when not in combat
If you weren't aware, the submerged castle doesn't have any ivory candypop buds in it anyway, only violet. So you could see it as a sort of blessing that you got stopped early before you were severely disappointed.
'I can only kill enemies using the poison from eating a white pikmin'
*Uses a bomb rock in endgame*
New video let’s go! Poison combat only sounds PAINFUL!!
this has similar energy to the low% true ending hollow knight run that skurry did. love this so much
I watched this while mostly asleep, and my dreaming brain decided that this was actually a Pokemon-Pikmin crossover game. It was pretty cool.
always hyped to see a new upload
The white and purple onion mod could make this less painful
i need to confess that the first thing i thought seeing the title was "Can You Beat Life With Only Whites?" and i saw the title a few hrs i think after you uploaded it, then i was kinda just left with that popping into my head intermediately throughout the day whenever i was left alone with my thoughts.
just finished a long shift at work definitely needed this video
The arbitary rule that white have to be eaten to deal damage feels unecessary masochistic
I knew this would be a interesting run. Props to you
I love how your PTSD with the final boss from previous runs makes you have to kill it with the white pikmin, quite a funny climax. I would love to know though how long it took you to grind out the money for the debt since the repetitive killing of the same enemy in the same place is what drives people to madness.
Ok I HAVE to know, what was the final death count after grinding 3,000 pokos like that and having to sacrifice to kill anything
I never played pikmin so i was thinking the whites couldn't attack, but the comments indicate that was just extra challenge. I suppose that's ok if they essentially play like everything else outside of their special powers.
i remember when you only had a few thousand subs... please, remember me when you're famous!!
you spent 58 and a half hours to recover that debt. Talk about dedication.
Omg the poison only limitation sounds like it will be agony geez
Poison damage only? I can already tell the snagret hole is gonna be a fun 15 or so trips, assuming you can even make it there (which is likely, I think). Props dude, the suffering must've been immense.
Edit: I very often forget just how few enemies are required to be killed in most dungeons. I'm too used to doing a clean sweep of every floor lol.
for the white flowers, do they not show up when you have 20 white pikmin on and off the ship, or just 20 white pikmin in your active party?
The Rock Pikmin from the last thumbnail got a scary little cousin!
I really liked the captain's log.
Like if white pikmin is your favourite
Assuming no deaths and also that my math is correct, 22 pokos per poko collecting day (as opposed to white pikmin collecting day) would leave 136 or so days to get 3000 pokos, and 3 white pikmin being fed per those 135 days leaves 45 white pikmin; are 45 white pikmin worth 3000 pokos? idk but i'd like to think theyre worth more tbh
Thankfully, the Doomsday Device is not mandatory, otherwise only the purple only run would be possible.
Wake up babe, new Press A! Pikmin challenge video dropped
honestly I thought this is what Lemon would do (minus the poison only restriction)
the way ya talking is so funny xD, like a sad sing song.
btw. when will ya do the next challenge against lemon? gotta kick his butt to make him feel alive after all!
By far my favorite pikmin so I’m very happy to see this video
I love white pikmin bc they make everything feel so smooth for example collecting barries or treasures
I think this one crossed the line from “challenge run” to “masochism”
When @ 19:46 the music started playing i totally thought it was going to be the cyberpunk theme playing
24:02 they call him, the Bloom Slayer
Please do Pikmin 4 without Oatchi. I tried it myself, and there’s some really interesting things that you can’t do. I’d love to see how you get around some of it.
When the Doom music kicks in...
Dude. I would have totally crushed that paper bag instead of doing that trick hundreds of times. You already proved it's easy enough to do, so crushing the bag would have done nothing but save a shred of your soul.
Okay, but I want to see how easy it would be if you actually were allowed to kill stuff normally.
You suffered so much just for our entertainment. I hope you don't snap like the white pikmin did.
the poison rule was pretty unnecessary and made the video very repetitive. Also, one of the later caves lets you farm as much purple and whites as you want, I think you could of made it with your rules but I honestly kinda checked out.
*could have
