Part 45: '07 BMW 328i (E90) Seats Installation - My 76 Mazda RX-5 Cosmo Restoration
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2024
- As I alluded to in episode 44, part 45 of my '76 Mazda Cosmo restoration deals with retrofitting in a pair of new seats. My ass chose those out of a 2007 BMW 328i, which I then came to know as an "E90". I was looking for a set of modern seats will all the power features and not only did my butt confirm that these were mighty comfy seats, but the measuring tape confirmed they would fit well in the Cosmo. Because there's little worse in a custom car than a set of seats that look completely out of place. Turned out that while the seats fit well into the car, actually mounting them took somewhat more effort than I expected.

I love this guy....The channel awesome...The intro is Brilliant...And the setbacks, like double-entendres were Awful...
Shame i won't see it finished in my lifetime...
yeah, aaroncake and project binky. imagine how long we'd have to wait for the collab.
Understatement of the year
Ah yes something to make my sad and lonely existence more pleasant
That's what I'm here for.
Hello Aaron, I’ve just watched Matt at the Workshop and now I have Subbed to your channel! I will now invest my time in watching your channel
Aaron, ThankYou from the Rx7 fc community. Your website has helped me out so much. From the biggest to smallest problems. Your shared knowledge on the web is like gold in a time where these cars and the people who work on them are fading away. Once again Thank You!
I'm glad that I can be such a help! Haven't been on the forums much lately because I've been concentrating on other things.
I am so glad I had hip surgery so I could lay around and binge on Aaron videos!
Is it weird to say that I wish you a long recovery so you have plenty of time to watch my videos?
welcome back buddy.
I have been following you for YEARS and will continue to check back to see how you are doing. Keep up the good work, love the videos.
I’m completely hooked up to this serie... love your sense of humor and your metal work skills.
Greetings from France
Absolutely fantastic, can't wait for the next one
Just have to figure out what to do next.
how about going through the whole vehicle and writing a list on piece of cardboard...
I have a white board, but so many directions I can go at this point. Since I just did a lot of metal fab I'm thinking something that mixes electronics with the fab. Or perhaps I'll put up a poll on the Patreon page and let everyone else decide.
If it was me I would like to see the engine start or do some paint and/or prep work...
Well, the engine isn't quite ready to start and once I fill it all with fluids, then I have the issue of it sitting around while all the other work is done. There are still body mods to do so won't be prepping for paint quite yet. Engine plumbing (ie. vacuum lines, etc.) is a possibility.
Over an hour holy shit guess we won't be seeing you for like a year and a half
If you watch at double speed it's only 31 minutes. The next project I'm thinking will be less involved, so should be a shorter period between videos.
aaroncake don't mind the long videos just more thanks
Great to see you back Aaron - I'll be sending some of my subscribers your way. I can't believe how many people have jumped ship! How hard is it to not press unsubscribe? Anyway, you were talking about using a LH drive steering column - looking forward to that install. All the best buddy - matt
Man I need to look at your channel more often. Lots of good stuff. What I used was a RH drive Miata steering rack, flipped to rear steer.
I likes the cut of Aarons jib old chap, thanks for the heads up and yes I have indeed subscribled. So big girlie kisses for you, just no tongue's..... Yet
Mat sent me here too, subbed.
perfect recommendation for a channel matt. now i have to find time to watch all these plus your vids
How do Aaron
Matt sent me so I am doin as I am told😂
Only kiddin been watchin your chanel for a long time just forgot ro sub keep it up buddy😆
I'm half tempted to go back and rewatch these videos from the start! Been a few years ..
My eyes glanced when i saw the notification.
Nice to see you back!
When im integrated into the working life i'll support you and your project! :)
Man your fabrication skills and attention to details are awesome! I am glad you take the time to film the details of your work, most channels just gloss over that and show the end results.
Thanks!
after a crap day at work this has really lifted my mood thanks Aaron.
thesparewheel try cannabis.
i do every once in a while
😮 omg! It’s been 6 years since I started watching this guy’s videos building his cosmo. I can’t wait to see him finish it.
Project Binky guys say. Hold my beer!
Made my way through the entire 45 episodes of this rebuild (well, I skipped through maybe 4 or 5) over the past week. Love the work, love your attitude and demeanour and methodology. The Workshop put me onto your channel. Keep up the awesome work, love it :) Greetings from Ireland.
Sounds like you've had a good week.
nice to see new video :)
Let me tell ya sumthing, Cake, I thumbs-upped this video BEFORE I watched it! And that's exactly the type of thing I'm capable of, me!
When it's finished.
You'll have the Only Mazda Cosmo RX-5 in the known Universe!
Just awesome! I know passion.
Well to be fair, it is the only one I have ever seen, so it may as well be the only one in the known universe.
Here from the workshop. Already subbed. Nice work on those mounts. And it's nice to see you back.
Always enjoy watching your meticulous fabrication, Aaron.
I love it when i pop on and see that you uploaded again one of my favorite builds on youtube
nice one. as my grandpa used to say, "near enough is not good enough, when it's perfect, then it's good enough". you certainly have the skill and patience to get the nod from ol' pop.
Thank you! I was quite happy that all the seat mount bolts still lined up even after all the welding, adjusting, etc. Don't need to elongate the holes at all.
Literally one of the only things that are keeping me alive
Well that's concerning.
good to see you working on your care again Aaron
I am glad you are recovering from the theft/break-in - that so massively sucked.
I am really looking forward to how you handle the seats coming from a car that had a CAN bus and that have seat controllers that are expecting CAN bus responses/data to operate. I'm all ears'n'eyes!
I haven't had much luck but truthfully I think the issue is the CAN hardware and modules I have been using with the Arduino. Just need to take some time and verify I can actually pass CAN messages back and forth between two Arduinos before I go back to the seats again. (Did my font just get smaller?). One thing I've come across with the BMW seats on some forums is that it might be just as simple as supplying 5V to the CAN bus lines. Will have to try that.
what thaaa.......this dude and his project are still alive, I totally forgot I was subscribed
karroome Bro by the time this car is completed the internet will be obsolete.
By the time this car is finished he would have lost all his hair. By the time this car is done, cars will no longer exist. We'll on be flying in drones. 😂😂😂😂
Great to see you back. Car is coming along just fine. LMAO at the cat at the end.
No worries bro! You left so much info on those forum's that people can take it from there. All anyone needs at times is to get pointed in the right direction. Greetings from SoCal!
I didn't skip any second of this video. it just worthy to watch. all the best . that's what I need to watch on RUclips. 👍 #best_youtubers
Hey Aaron, this was my first car :-) :-) waaaay back in 1990 :-) :-) I learnt to rebuild and bridge port the motor after blowing an apex seal about 3months after getting it. I had a Webber dcoe and 2" primary to the diff and 2.5" out the back. Aaahhhhh memories :-) :-) :-) love what you doing mate, greetings from Australia :-) :-)
Hey Aaron was recommended to your channel by Matt at the workshop. Not so much a car guy but there's nothin more enjoyable than watching someone who knows what they're doing toiling over a project.
Finally the greatest show on RUclips has come back
Aaron i love your project! Watching all the Videos since the beginning, Plesse dont stop it like most other people would do in this state. Grüße aus Deutschland!
Your metal work is Awesome! I hope the next one will be sooner than later : ) Thanks for taking the time to share...
Super episode, just as the previous ones..... and the next to come.
Can't wait.
Thanks Aaron, great to see you back I was beginning to get worried. Really enjoyed thanks.
I hope you're doing good man(: thanks for all the videos & hard work over the years, good to see you again!
Oh lordy, I'm only about half way through the series and this one comes out! Aaron Cake you are at the top of my subscribe list in many more ways than one. And yes, that's what she said. There's a fellow across the pond, Matthew Micallef, who has done much the same with a bi-turbo Maserati road car from the latter years of the de Tomaso reign as you have with this Cosmo. He's more "stock," but the dedication, attention to safety, and painstaking work are attributes you share and teach in every video. Your tearing out the earlier metal work about gave me a heart-attack -- that you were so casual about it was amazing. You never curse (in anger, I mean), throw tools, or kick things. Please, please tell us that you edit out the "inappropriate" bits. Oh well, you're an empowering presence and now I'll just go change the oil or something.
Certainly there has been some swearing and frustrating moments building the car, however most of that happens off camera. I will probably put together a blooper real at some point with a bit of it included. Because, well, everyone gets frustrated occasionally. Strangely for cars I have a lot of patience, and the only thing that bothers me are BS wastes of time. Like the blade popping off the band saw. Man, I hate that. Always makes me curse. I'll definitely check out Matthew Micallef.
Just came over from The Workshop and what do I see, but an Amazing workshop! Really nice setup you got there fella and refreshing to see a guy who knows how to use all the stuff in his shop too. Love the video format and humour Aaron, had me in stitches when you discovered that 15 cents!
Looking forward to new vids you add, as well as power trawling through all your older ones!
Finally!! Glad to see yoou back to work on the Cosmo!
Yey!!! Finally a new vid.!! You make me want to learn welding hah. I love how neatly you can build a simple bracket. I slapped wrx seats in my nissan patrol y60 and im ashamed of the metal mess under them when i see your work..
Well thank you! It just takes practice and having the equipment set up correctly. Definitely a skill worth learning that you will constantly use. Broken shower curtain rod? 30 second fix to weld it.
the Workshop sent me, good call, loving your channel.
Your updates make my life complete! 😊
I see nothing wrong with that.
Keep them coming...can’t wait to see it finished one day
Good to see you back :)
And still using the safety squint :)
Arrived here via Matt at The Workshop. This was interesting and amusing to watch - looks like I have a few years of catching up to do!
Is my life this sad that I've been awaiting and anticipating more aaroncake RX-5 videos? Or is it that fucking awesome? You decide!
I see nothing wrong with your life. Nothing.
Really been looking forward to this video. Glad you’re back.
How'd I miss this in my subscription window a month ago? Great video, man. It's always good to see the Cosmo shaping up
Better turn on email notification so this doesn't happen again. :-)
Will do friendo :^)
Matt sent me here too ... wonderful work. A pleasure to watch.
great to see you back dude, allways look forward to you're content
Finally got around to see this. Thanks for another great episode Aaron!
20:48 Turbo Yoda safety squint
Love the vids Aaron!
Matt send me here, can't belive i never seen your channel before. awesome channel man!!!
Watching you work, reminded me of an unnamed fellow who thought it was perfectly ok to put his seats in using nutserts on the floor.
I've seen seats "retrofitted" with zip ties.
Helps keep the gene pool thinner. I’m ok with that.
I've seen that too! A friend bought a J-spec import FD and that's how the Recaros were installed. Terrifying.
They will realize their faux pas when they have a head on collision...and they end up going through the windshield with their retro fitted seat still strapped to their ass! Thank you Darwin.
OMG OMG OMG I entered your channel almost every day since 44 to see if you posted anything. Oh how i'v missed you Aaron!
All the best,
Cristian
We were waiting for you.... please don’t be late for next RUclips ... thank you Aaron
This is still the best channel on RUclips.
Nice to see you back
Aaron you are a beast ! Love it.
I've been waiting this video for so long! Thank you Aaron !
Great to see you back doing your car keep it up!
Nice to see you back in the shop. If you get bored you could put out a times laps video to catch everyone up on your work. I’m ordering vintage air for my TA this week and had planes on rewatching your install to get a feel for it.
so glad to see you back!!!
Tnx Aaron.1 hour video
Matt from the RUclips channel The Workshop recommended you. He wasn’t wrong dude, awesome channel. Subscribed straight away!
i love your vids and this build have been watching it for well over a year keep up the good work
G'day mate. I was just on The Workshop and he suggested we take a look . I like what I see so I have subscribed and I have a lot of videos to watch to catch up which is all good.
Good to see you!!! Thanks for the upload!
Nice to see you Aaron, to see you, nice.
Been waiting for so long to see another of your videos, the most informational video on installing seats ahahah, took me 2 days to get enough time to finish the video! I love the details you put info it
RUclips has an awesome feature that lets you watch at 1.25, 1.5, or double speed. I often use it at 1.25.
Yer no, I’m watching it at normal speed, I don’t care if I see you cut weld grind over and over again, I gain drive to do things better when I see the effort you put in!
It's good to see ya Aaron
:( well after spending most of my spare time over the past few weeks watching from beginning to now iv gotta wait for the next video. owell looking forward to it
Good to see you back
I have missed the sweet sizzle of your mig,,,welcome back mate
welcome back, man. thanks for gracing us with a full hour of wrenching and fabbing =)
Miss you and your content aaron
had to do a triple take. nice to have you back (again)
Never left, just takes longer to work on the car when the priority is re-building a house.
OMG!!!!!!! YES! awesome!!!!! so glad another video!!!! Keep it coming buddy!
Awesome video. I am always excited to see a new video of yours
99$ for the signature series synthetic was not added to the car....its what they lubed her with.....
I was going to sleep, but then I noticed that Aaron Cake uploaded a 1 hour video...
You've made the appropriate choice.
Hey man great video, frieking awesome attention to detail as well as explanation and camera work.
Long time no see. Good to see you back into it mate.
Glad to see you back ...really missed all the banging and welding and grinding and ..what she said......but that cat wins this round .
I wasn't aware that a win is attempting to jump onto a work bench yet instead landing flat on your back.
Great to finally see a video from you again.
Since you used e90 3series seats, if you ever decide you want a sportier/grippy seat you will be able to bolt in m3 seats which still have all of the amenities.
Cool, that's nice to know. Since I will be upholstering these, I may change the bolstering slightly.
Good to see you back again good video keep them coming good length to you could get right into it two thumbs up
Another excellent video. Well worth the wait.
BOOM - knew you’d come through.
Matt from the workshop recommended you so I have just watched 3 episodes including this, although I tend to watch mainly motorbike videos I am hooked on your channel now and am compelled to subscribe. Loving the way you work, even if your workshop trousers do make your butt look a bit big lol. Definitely will be following your build
I would say that my workshop clothes accentuate my stunning natural curves and manly angles.
Cool Project. Subscribed, Your channel was recommended by Matt from The Workshop channel.
this project not dead!
Absolutely not, and will never be. Just remember that I am splitting my time between a lot of other stuff, including basically fully gutting and rebuilding a house.
that's cool. I hope to see the power system actually move in the near future.
Yes! Awesome episode, see you next year.
your absence has forced me to watch piston powered videos..............
Hey, Matt from the workshop ( yt channel) sent me over here, if he enjoys your videos then I'm sure I will too and look forward to beginning this build series from the start
Welcome back, mate. Good to see the Cosmo getting some love, too. :-)
Matt from the workshop sent me over. New subscriber now!!
That looks great as always! fab work takes time. yes in both senses of the word.
