It looked to me like he observed her people's funerary rites. If anything, this was Darkseid showing respect. While the Greeks actually placed a coin in the mouth as payment for Charon, rather than one on each eye, modern media tends to depict the latter.

This isn't true percentage-wise and even if it were true - how you cut the scenes together and what and where you add stuff - it can drastically change the movie. And it did.

Till this day it still baffles my mind why WB is rebooting this. Like why? You hire Joss Whedon to turn Zack's movie into an MCU parody, and now you hire James Gunn to reboot everything and make sure that the DCU is a copy of the MCU. WB never learns.
Because mainstream audiences don't give a fuck about the DCEU and they are what pays the bills, they need to reboot it and start fresh to get people interested again.
There were different options, they could have rebooted their universe and change the outcome of this future timeline without changing the coming of darkseid teased in this. If it was up to me I would do this:
- In the new timeline , I would retcon cyborg's dad to be alive and have cyborg leave the league for a time as he decide to spend more time with his father.
- Use the timeline change to recast :ben affect, amber heard, ezra miller, ray fisher , gal gadot
- Keep cavill and have him be the superman in superman legacy, this alone will bring back people interest in the brand
- The timeline change won't affect darkseid since he exists in a different realm of existence so he's still coming to earth but the new gods of new genisis interferes and delays his arrival.
Once darkseid finally arrived, he immediately notice the timeline change and makes Comment about it.
- The nightmare timeline is retcon out since the outcome of darkseid invasion happened differently and booster gold series is the tangible proof of that.
That's what they should have done,that's a soft reboot.

Not me, I will opt for darkseid to remain unaffected and unchanged by the reboot due to him being from the fourthworld and l will not cop out and have flash change the past (ge technically did when he came to bruce in bvs), they will defeat darkseid but there will be long lasting losses and consequences.
The movie should not follow tge comics trend of returning to the status quo, the movies are stuck in floating timeline, every thing must move on with consequences.
Also yes what I have been feeling for years seems to have finally quick in, the superhero movie genre era is starting to phase away.

This is actually what happened in the end of the movie. Darkseid succeeded in his plan and JL lost but until Barry reversed time and created new timeline.

The thing is that this scene just goes to show how smart Darksied can be. For example, instead of trying to kill superman he lets him kill one of the only people that could have POSSIBLY gotten close to defeating Darkseid other than Superman, and that is Batman. Sure, he is just a guy, but Batman is the smartest person on the planet. Sorry, but I love Batman, hes awesome.

If Zack or WB had just taken their time build it up his vision properly by setting up its lore and characters, then the general consensus wouldn’t have an issue with it. Loki, FATWS, What If, WandaVision, No Way Home, Wakanda Forever, Guardians 3, etc. Now I will say this that I don’t find it appealing that we need comedy in every superhero movie, but if it’s in the right place and the right tone of a specific movie, then that’s what should work is studios shouldn’t incorporate too much corny jokes every 5 minutes or so. Looking at you, Quantumania and Thor Love and Thunder.

I don't know why I thought this and maybe I'm the only one but when I saw superman cradling Lois Lane's corpse, I told myself that Zack Snyder's has got big effing balls to do what he did right there. Having Darkseid murder Lois just to gain control over superman to make him his minion. That's when my respect for Snyder accelerated. Not many directors would've done what he did.

Most likely Darkseid got hold of the anti life equation, and that gave him the power to control Superman. Anti life equation basically destroys free will and whoever wields it, is master of the universe.
The problem with Zack Synder's vision, it was all so rushed. For example, he brought in Doomsday way too early and killed off Superman way too early too, so there was no merit or belief that the Man of Steel would be dead for good. We all secretly knew Superman would come back to continue Man of Steel 2, and to appear in Justice League so the director's vision, while ballsy and well-intentioned, was a victim of bad timing. If each Justice Leaguer has their own movie, including a Man of Steel 2, and if this was accomplished before Batman vs Superman was even introduced, man, the DCU would've been epic. It look like James Gunn is planning everything out a little better than Zack so let's see what the rebooted DCU bring us.
It was the studio that wanted to rush things. Zack had to incorporate their demands as well as his vision and he was too passionate to leave those projects. It is all so obvious.

I just want to remind everyone that Darkseid was a creation Jack (King) Kirby and has become the number one go-to villain for Dc since the early seventies. How great it would have been to see a "New Gods" film and what a shame that Kirby's Fourth World saga won't make it, yet, to the big screen. However, Snyder was obviously a fan and this does Kirby the justice he deserves. Lastly, let's not forget that Jim Starlin created Thanos as a Marvel version of Darkseid.

Darkseid is literally the embodiment of Evil, be it in comic books, animated series or movies. You humanize this character, you end up taking away the very thing that makes him an effective antagonist in a plot. Then how do I happen to come across morons saying Thanos is better than him because he's...RELATABLE? Since when did all villains need to be relatable to be iconic? Comparing the cinematic manifestations of Thanos and Darkseid is like comparing apples and oranges.

I think people are forgetting that some of the most iconic villains are those that have no humanity left in them and are only evil. Joker, Johan, Anton Chigurh, Goblin all comes to mind. Im sure there's more.
Thanos obviously is not relatable. I have never seen anyone say that. Its because his motives are understandable and he isn't just "Destroy. Kill. Why? Because I'm just bad". Its called character complexity.

They had to tweak Thanos to make him work in the movies. Remember the original version was a psycho obsessed with Death, not an ecoterrorist. People woudln't be having a "but Thanos was right" if they adapted him as he truly was, a death-loving monster.

I highly doubt it. Most people don't want grimdark heroes for years. There's a reason Marvel has had so much success: their movies can be enjoyable for the whole family.
If Zack was allowed to continue, you would find audiences getting smaller and smaller until only the hardcore fans remained. Not saying DC being grimdark is bad, but it isn't what the general public wants. Unless Zack is picked up by another company (who has the rights to these characters), you can bet none of the future hero movies will ever be this good. Money always talks louder than true hardcore fans, sadly.

Darkseid is way more menacing than Thanos in my opinion. Just darker and scarier. Plus his plans for Earth are even worse than Thanos. All I know is whenever the JL goes against Darkseid, they are gonna get some hell.
Something beautiful abt the JL, especially Superman and Flash, is that they have god like powers to begin with. The only possible way they could create a compelling story for the collective JL is to have an insurmountable foe or fear of a future like Apokolips on Earth and fcking Darkseid being an absolute menace. So Zack Snyder definitely had the right direction for creating at the bare minimum, a compelling story. I'm hoping James Gunn has an interesting direction for the league but I'm not that stoked for more stories relating to "oh Superman's a god but he has a human side and tries his best to fit in" kind of direction cuz its not that they aren't gud stories, but it's not like im missing out on something if i dont watch the movie
Mid threats like Ultron and Thanos in the MCU are not an ideal goal to fight against if you have indominable beings like Superman and the Flash. It kinda works in the MCU cuz they're a little on the weaker side. tho tbh ik they are hella fcking strong (both heroes and villains) in the comics but wut we ended up w/ in Ultron was just a mindless droid army like in Star Wars, and Thanos wasn't rly an indominable being of power w/o the stones and he doesn't even use the stones to properly fight cuz that wasn't his goal; by Endgame he was just fodder and served as fan service for heroes to shine. Something I feared abt Kang, especially with the numerous variations they showed of him is that if they do somehow end u making Kang Dynasty, it's just gonna be Age of Ultron again where he's individually not that much of a threat and they're all just fodder variants

That's not how Anti Life works. The change is internal following huge personal loss or simply a loss of faith in life. You simply accept that there is only doom and despair. You see the opposite of life and joy. That's when you submit to Anti Life.

I'm starting to think that once great movie franchises that have been dying recently end like this scene, with evil winning over good. Let's consider some examples:
DCEU: Ends with this scene, with Darkseid winning, bending Superman to his will, killing all our favorite superheroes, and gaining control of all life in existence via the Anti-Life Equation.
MCU: With Thanos failing to wipe out half of all life in the universe, the problems of overpopulation eventually lead to humanity's doom (a metaphor for the overabundance of low-quality movies and shows pulling the MCU down as of late), until the Celestials or even Galactus return from slumber to feed on Earth (whatever its MCU designation is) and the rest of the multiverse.
Transformers (Bayverse continuity): At the end of The Last Knight, Unicron awakens inside the Earth, destroys the planet from the inside and consequently all of humanity, and enslaves the remaining Transformers, leading to the reboot universe starting with Bumblebee and ROTB as the Autobots' second attempt at stopping Unicron.
Star Wars: God knows what's been happening in Star Wars lately. At best, only Ashoka and The Mandalorian can be considered as canon continuations to the story told by the original 6 movies.
Star Trek: Fell victim to being rebooted long before the others on this list, and therefore died much faster as well.

First time I've noticed Kilowog dead. Green Lanterns seem to get killed by Darkseid pretty easily. 😅

Unfortunately the past couple years have shown the superhero movie genre is getting diminishing returns now. People have gotten older and moved on. I wish DCEU had made more of an impact, but I blame a lot of it on WB. When the DC reboot starts next year I don't see much happening.

Gunn's DCU is DOA. You can't take DC fans this close to paradise and just close the door and give us something we didn't ask for. I don't think core DC fans have any appetite for a reboot which is why everything flopping at DC.

I don't know how Warner Bros preferred Danny Elfman's horrendous soundtrack over this masterpiece created by junkie XL!!!!! Joss whedon really had it in for ray fisher, he ruined what would have been his breakout role... Warner Bros even doubled down on three of the biggest narcissistic people ever know, amber heard, Geoff Johns and Joss whedon.
I really wish Batman v Superman had managed to remain at the level it started off with in its first 15 minutes. I think Justice League would have never been handed over to someone with a completely different vision from Snyder's and we would still have him, Snyder, making DC movies.
