I agree, especially because Darkseid is not physically massive (big, sure, but only slightly bigger than Superman so not giant) so he shouldn't sound Thanos-sized. The main thing you need to hear in Darkseid's voice is MALEVOLENCE. You need to believe that this is a being who has never been afraid in his life, who would relish the sport of fighting Superman while not for one second fearing the outcome of the fight, and afterwards will destroy planets the same way a sadistic human would pull the wings off a butterfly for the pleasure of watching it squirm. How to immediately ruin your plans for world domination 1. Fuck up trying to resurrect brainiac for darkseid instead 2. Tell darkseid you are his new lord and master immediately after he spawns.
@masterkent1 Apparently the witch that Luthor was using to resurrect Braniac actually fucked them over. She purposefully brought back Darkseid instead of Braniac in order to fuck everything up for Luthor.
As you can see, Darkseid is all too capable of fulfilling his side of any bargain he strikes to the letter and still screwing you over. In the video game Justice League Heroes he tricked Brainiac twice over: He promised that letting him out of his prison would allow Brainiac to unleash great power (which he did - he let Darkseid out) and that he would receive great wisdom (which he also did - *Never trust Darkseid.* ).
AngryIrishBenjamin only because people keep accepting his vague "bargains". If so much as one person asks him to be specific he will either have to lie or his plan would be foiled.

So many of the DCAU castings were perfect. From Conroy to Hamill to Sorkin, Ironside, LaMarr, and Brown, they were all just spectacular. RIP to Kevin Conroy and Arlene Sorkin.

For thsoe talking about how Superman is getting shit on by Darkseid. Don't realize that Darkseid was born as that of a primordial god. Kryptonians are merely mortals with powers from biology. Darksied is naturally on a higher level of existence
Superman is Krypton's First Natural birth in Centuries and he is the direct descendants of the Kryptonian Sun God Rao. In Man of Steel Kal-EL was on Krypton's Gravity and he was still able to Fly and Destroyed the World Engine.
Kalibak is a tragic figure. Always trying to win his father's love but he will never get it. All the while Darkseid says that he respects his eldest son and greatest enemy, Orion.

Well Jim Starling never meant for Thanos to be a straight up villain. He wanted him to be morally grey and have outlandish goals. Besides Darkseid in terms of personality and goals is based off hitler so yeah of course he is the ultimate evil.
Darkseid is an amazing and compelling villain. He is actually powerful enough to beat down any DC hero, and he can actually back up his words. He also is capable of beating the crap out of Superman, the almighty overpowered blue and red boy.
Eddie Lee Honestly on a Very Good Day the whole Justice Leagues combined efforts would fall to Darkseid's might alone 9/10 times. Include that he is immortal and even if someone destroys his body he can be resurrected again, unstoppable. He has beaten Superman and Supergirl to near death more than once and didn't even break a sweat. He is my favorite villain ever.
You must not know much about DC if you think those 3 jobbers are the only ones to beat Superman. Monarch, Superboy Prime, and the Anti-Monitor have all done far worse. And all 3 of them would obliterate villain-of-the-week Jobberseid with ease, too. Monarch is basically an infinitely better version of Darkseid, one that's not made of a bunch of retarded tropes duct-taped together. Superboy Prime is a PRE-CRISIS version of Supes that's completely fucking insane, and Anti-Monitor literally destroys universes at a time.
What makes this iteration of Darkseid the best IMHO (one of many reasons), is that he always almost speaks with calm, soft voice. He doesn't need to scream or yell even when enraged, his very commanding presence speaks absolute volume. When something actually does get him to raise his voice, it's very unsettling.
The fact that darkseid made himself a universal singularity ensures that one way or another, death and destruction are imminent with him. He is by far the best villain there is.
"The Despot Darkseid is a Dastardly Duplicitous Deity who Deviously Delivers Death and Devastation." Sorry I just feel you could have gone the full mile with that title.
9:10-9:28 After all the advance alien technologies Brainiac has acquired in his conquests he still got overwritten by a Motherbox. That just shows how advance Apokolips/New Genesis technology is.
Their axes and swords are one of the strongest materials in the known universe, also they have technology imbeded into it allowing for laser blast and boom tube transport. Some have magic imbued into it. They are a race of fighters, hand weapons will always be their first choice.
Speaking of mythological, the sequence starting from 10:14 is trully the definition of the word. Two extremelly powerhungry and vicious factions about to fight for supremacy, _when they are interrupted by the arrival of a higher being._ And look at their expressions. Look at their eyes! They are not bowing down in fear like cowards trying to save their lives. _They are in genuine AWE!_ Their respect is absolute. Their admiration pure. Their worship unquestionable! They look like they have found enlightment... _and are bowing to the one who brought it._ *_Their GOD has returned._*
The true difference between Darkseid and Thanos: Thanos searches for power to become almighty. Darkseid has the power at his fingertips and is almighty.
3:39 is a prime example of what you get when your a poor winner. Coulda just stood there and watched him go on his merry way, BUT NOOOOO, you gotta be a giant rooster about it open your mouth. Dan: Poor winner Darkseid: poor losser seems balanced actually.
P.J. It's not really a matter of deserving or not deserving. Dan poked the metaphorical bear. There are consequences for that. Are they fair consequences? No, but that's life...or, well, _death_ in this case.
if only we got Michael Ironside for Darkseid in Injustice 2, it would have been PERFECT. but at least he's playable, my favorite enemy to Superman, I like Braniac, but only int he animated series design
Sasuke Uchiha I would say the same about Jeaffry Combs as Scarecrow, but he's just as creepy. playing Braniac in Injustice 2. Jesus, Braniac even looks like Combs.
No, I totally agree, Englund is pretty good too. Just that Combs had grown on me. When I heard it he was in the game I was expecting a reprisal, but his Brainiac works well. There are not too many actors that can make Scarecrow sound creepy.
I like how Darkseid has such a simple design, and yet he has such a powerful presence at the same time. Just look how he stands most of the time with his hands behind his back: When you hear the term "Owning the scene", it feels like Darkseid was the one who invented the term. He ALWAYS looks like he is in perfect control over everything around him, and he usually has a very low tone to his voice, and he is veey calm and calculated most of the time, so when he gets angry...you KNOW that things are about to get serious...Ironside absolutley nailed this role, and I wish that he had more scenes as Darkseid.👏👏
I like Darkseid, while he certainly is evil he still shows that he feels "normal" emotions and feelings, like love and empathy, although greatly distorted. he is also arguably a good ruler. I would love a show or comic where he is the protagonist.
Let's all be honest here When Darkseid killed Dan Turpine after Superman and Orion chased him off the Earth - that was REALLY unexpected. Especially for a kids cartoon of those times.
You missed the most important scene that occurred after 8:38. Super man has defeated Darkside and tells the people of Apocalypse "you are free now, do with Darkside as you please". The people carry Darside off and as Superman stares in confusion Darkside waves his followers to stop a moment. He says "I am many things Kal-El, but here I am God".
I love how in DC Darkseid legit annihilates the Justice League from multiple universes (shoutout to Earth-3) and pretty much single-handedly holds New Genesis to a standstill, but for some reason he can never defeat the main continuity Superman or Justice League.
aѕajj have you even read the comics in superman batman worlds finest darksied destroys earth 2 which has a 15 years older and more experienced JL but on earth prime he got destroyed
Darkseid may treat kalibak like shit and view him as a failure but he will still be a vengeful father if someone dared to hurt his blood. darkseid is one of the best villians ever made.
Well..really, Darkseid's thinking is "Nobody hurt my son...but me". It's his upbringing. His father was shit to him...so he killed him off. Now he expects Kalibak or Orion to do the same to him....though really he hopes Orion will. He never really think Kalibak will ever be strong enough.

pendragonshall He is basically second to an actual god in most series And a fantastic ruler to those who follow and obey But that is just the thing, he allows nothing to be outside of his control because that could be a threat to his rule Superman's kryptonian heritage makes him immune to Darkseids mind control, that means he is outside of Darkseids direct mind control which means that if Superman evert tries to stop him, Superman will be his new target

A shame he wasn't asked to voice Darkseid in the movie
You left out his best line:
“I am many things Kal-El, but here, I am God.”
Best bit: "That's for Dan Turpin"
"Who?"
"The good man you murdered"
*"If I had known one human's death would pain you so I would have killed more"*
"And kill more I shall. Carry that agony with you to oblivion, Superman."
Dan Turpin was Jack “The King” Kirby who created Darkseid.
Dude is incredibly based
He was like who tf is that? 😂

How to immediately ruin your plans for world domination
1. Fuck up trying to resurrect brainiac for darkseid instead

Can we talk about how perfect Ironside was in this role? Conroy was not the only legendary casting in the DCAU. No other Darkseid voice has been near as good
None
Darksied makes the appearance of a brute but in truth he is a cold calculating master of manipulation and skims. He had a perfect voice.

Accurate lol. Thanos is a purple alien. Darkseid is a GOD
Yup. The only villians that can say they beat the crap out of Superman or near killed him are Mongol, Darkseid and Doomsday.
Eddie Lee And the thing is that it's just an avatar that he uses that only uses a sliver of his true power.
Eddie Lee Or in other words a hologram.

Does that mean darkseid exist in every timeline/alternative universe?

4ulight then why their army are still using primitive weapons like axe and sword then?
Considering half the inhabitants of Apokolips, I guess they just prefer using the axe and the sword.
Their axes and swords are one of the strongest materials in the known universe, also they have technology imbeded into it allowing for laser blast and boom tube transport. Some have magic imbued into it. They are a race of fighters, hand weapons will always be their first choice.
Darkseid controlling Brainiac will always be the biggest plot twist in the animated series. Nothing afterward ever came close.
Darkseid's such an epic and mythological villain in his actions, words and scale. Very few big baddies in fiction are as grandiose.
Well, Darkseid is meant to be more like an embodiment of an abstract concept (in this case, evil), rather than a person.

Fair enough, though I like who they got to voice Scarecrow, Robert Englund. rather fitting if you ask me, but I respect yoru opinion.
No, I totally agree, Englund is pretty good too. Just that Combs had grown on me. When I heard it he was in the game I was expecting a reprisal, but his Brainiac works well. There are not too many actors that can make Scarecrow sound creepy.
So true. This game has a pretty good voice cast I wont deny
