I believe The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and 2 are some of the best animated films I've ever watched. Old Batman was always one of the things I always wanted to see and maybe one day I'll get to watch on the big screen.

I know this comment is a little old but I just gotta say, that is one of the best Batman lines. It’s honestly Peter Wellers version of “I am vengeance, I am the night, I AM BATMAN”
It always amazes me that despite everything joker has done, the senseless cruelty, and the madness, and that his death was completely deservedly, and all the good things that Batman has done, he still knows the world well enough to say, “I made you lose control, and they will kill you for it… see you in hell

I’ve always thought that having Batman and Joker’s final battle in The Tunnel of Love is one of the most symbolic and poetic setting from this book and I love it for it. By far one of the best fights and moments from Batman media. If only Frank could get back to writing masterpieces like this again

@@user-zv9mk3qr8i yeah Sin City and 300, Ronin, Batman Year 1 and Daredevil were his best works but since then it’s been down hill from there apart from issue 1 of Superman Year 1 that felt like the old Frank was writing again in some parts
What I love about TDKR is that everyone is freaking out about Batman’s return. Except for those who know. They know. They know Gotham no longer has to bleed. They know that her children no longer have to starve, no longer have to fear. Only those who betrayed her will. Only those who go against good and righteousness will feel his wrath. Only the petty and wicked shall feel the fists of Justice. Only the vile and dominating shall whisper his name. Only the most corrupt and evil will have to fear The Batman.

They did a great job adapting it with these two parter animated movies
Only thing missing were Batman's inner thoughts
Honestly I feel like we don't need his inner thoughts. We can tell by the visuals what's going through his head.

As Bruce steps away from the Batmoblie, he walks into the shadows. Carrie Kelley, now calling herself “Robin”, decides to snoop around the Batcave. When she is caught messing with the bat computer by Alfred, she only asked one question: “Where is he going?” Alfred responds with, “To find his purpose AGAIN.”
As Bruce gets deeper into shadows, he strips himself from his costume, like a war hero removing his service uniform. As he is naked, Bruce falls to his knees, looking up, seeing nothing but the darkness. He tries to call out an old friend. It doesn’t respond. He calls it out again and soon, he begins to hear the screech. The call of the bat.
With Bruce staring right into its eyes, he is now staring to accept his destiny once more. “I’m not finished with you yet”, Bruce says. “And you’re not finished with me.” The bat that was hanging upside down starts to fly and fly straight to Bruce. “You’re NEVER finished with me.” Carrie, who finishes wondering around the cave, also sees the darkness. She see something coming out of it. It’s not Bruce. As he steps forward into the light again, she smiles and looks up to see The Batman return once more.

I swear man this tribute gives me inspiration of the writing and voice acting from the movies especially the tone you set showing inner demons that lie within batman that truly his life will always be a never ending crusade to rid the world of crime.
I've used this movie for a lot of inspiration for my project, it's such a great film, from the plot, the music the animation. Peak cinema

Gotham was at a decline even when Bruce was a young Batman and he added some stability but when he retired gotham turned to hell sure the super freaks were gone but gotham was arguably worse the youth of the city was killing everyone and Bruce realised he had to be more than just Batman and came back and gave gotham its sole back I love both these films and comic

Actually there is a theory stating Joker snapping his own neck is not real its in Batman's imagination. Joker dies when Batman snapped his neck and the conversation after is in his head. Thats why Joker said, "u lose I mad eyou loose control" becoz batman already killed him.

I love Batman so much. Mortal. Frail. Human. Driven. Inspired. Relentless. Everything that makes us weak and makes us strong. All that make us terrible and all that makes us great. His pain at losing his parents. His hatred of evil his refusal to kill.
Bat man is man kinda greatest hero. Because he’s just a man. Because when earth needs hero’s to send to apokalipse we sent 10 aliens 15 meta humans and Bruce fucking Wayne.
The martial arts. The gadgets. The fights. The villains. They’re great but they’re not Batman. Batman is who sat on the swing set with ace and held her hand as she died. When ace said they stole my childhood! And Batman said I know. I’m sorry. That’s Batman. That’s humanity. Superman might save us from a comet. Batman saves us from our own darkness.
Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel is the foundation of the modern Stories for Batman. The story, the psychological level that drives the story and the artwork. Three thumbs up!!

I swear a thousand of these views are from me it's just such an amazing edit of my favorite Batman story.
I like to headcanon that a story like this plays out in an alternate timeline for the Black Mirror story. James Gordon Jr poisoned Gotham's infants to make them clinically psychopathic in Black Mirror. Dick and Gordon were worried about the Worst of Gotham coming out, as if the city had a pulsing, beating heart of evil that infected the minds of its residents. James Jr wanted to make that a reality.
I like to think that this story-- but not its sequels-- plays out in a similar way because of James Jr.
This is the only thing that anyone ever made that’s 100% accurate to the comic source material.
One of my problems with this Bruce here is how he just sees Jason as a "soldier".
I agree Batman is meant to have a father and son/daughter relationship with all of his Robins, and if not that then teacher and student
He see Jason as a son it’s his own way of showing at least that’s how I saw it
It's one of many problems I have with this storyline yeah. The other is making Superman a generic government stooge. It really should have been Captain Atom he fought.

I loved how merciless Batman was when he was fighting with Superman, in the movie and The dark knight returns. And I also like how he doesn’t let people get inside his head and control him.

This also had a tremendous soundtrack.
Overall this is a very faithful adaptation of the comic. Even in the animation; you can see the influence of Miller's art style. It's not overt or anything but you can see it.
I mean, yeah. I think it captures the essence of the comic. Indeed, I think it could have been grittier, but I understand younger audiences and such.
Peter Weller was a very good choice for Batman/Bruce. Michael Emerson's take on Joker was very unique, which I really appreciate. Emerson's really good in general lol. Loved him as Ben Linus.

I recently re-read The Dark Knight returns and let me tell you: It is as Great as they say. And this movie is a faithful adaptation! The only real nitpick being is that the movie feels a lot faster than the book.

It’s like watching Batman become the Batman we knew he really could be. He actually did it all right in the end.
He stood for what he believed in.
He actually best Superman.
He actually kills Joker.

He didn't really kill joker he had the intention to do so but paralyzed him than joker killed himself to make it seem like he did it

A fantastic comic, and a fantastic movie. The only thing, that still baffles me, to this day, is why they cast Peter Weller as Batman, and Michael Emerson as the Joker, as opposed to Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, respectively. Apart from that, the film is a great adaptation of the source material.
