    This is a top notch video, excellent work on both the videography and the mechanical work as well. What year is this car? I have a 2000 corolla and I will eventually have to do this job and you sir have given me the confidence to do it due to the quality of this video. Thanks for putting this together.

      Thanks for the good feedback. It is a 2005 model. All the best for when you eventually have to do yours.

      Grant Burton sorry, one question ...I noticed some people support the engine before removal of gearbox...but i don’t see how you did it in your video? Did you also have to remove exhaust piping from exhaust manifold?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jaun, I left all the exhaust piping and manifold in place. I also supported the engine before removing the gearbox... I did this by inserting a 18mm piece of wood between the sub-frame and bottom of the sump. Then removed the final bolts holding the bell housing. (Apologies for the delayed reply)

      Hi Bill, thanks. It sometimes can be a little tricky working by yourself. I had to make another cradle when replacing the clutch on the Hilux and it worked very well. I have a video on that. I definitely wouldn't have been able to easily remove the gearbox without it.

    I searched a how to replace clutch video, and then realized probably 0% of results would be from American creators lol. I'm in the United states now, but lived my whole life in Africa, and keep forgetting that most cars are automatic here.

      Hi, It might be a good idea to plug the car into a diagnostic computer to check if there are any fault codes that come up that relate to your issue. I don't know much about automatics but have you checked the fluid level of the transmission?

    great video, but some of the stuff I was hoping to see the most has been skipped over due to the camera battery issue.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  2 года назад

      Hi Alfredo, apologies for that... it's one of the things i don't like about this camera... its battery sucks, and it catches me out every now and again. But not to worry... it's pretty simple to unbolt and remove the left side and rear engine mount, speedometer cable and the two gear linkage cables... I'm sure if you are attempting a clutch change, you'll manage to remove that stuff without having seen it before.

    Hi . Very god video. Thanks. Do you have any idea where i can find torque specification for flywheel, clutch, axle etc. for Toyota Avensis T27 . I can even buy , but is very hard to find it. I have everything for Toyota Avensis T25 (previous model) in PDF but not for T27. There are programs like : Autodata or Alldata Repair, but they are for mechanics and companies, they are too expensive.

      Hi Dawid, unfortunately I don't have the torque specs. for that vehicle but I'll keep my eyes open and if I come across anything, will post here. If you come across them, let us know... possibly post here for others to see.

    Good video. But I don't think a good idea for DIYers. I replaced my Corolla CV drive axle a couple of times. Very difficult to get it out, mainly because of limited space under the car.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 года назад

      Hi windyelm, thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the video. I also have an updated clutch change DIY guide video for a Toyota Hilux if you interested in that ruclips.net/video/25Kv6D6sXsc/видео.html.
      Working without a hoist / lift does make the job a little more difficult but with large enough tressles / jack stands, its not that bad. I Purchased larger stands to make the clutch change on our pickup a bit easier.

    Can you explain what you did to "skim" the flywheel? Thanks for the great video!

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 года назад +2

      Hi, I sent the flywheel into one of our local machine shops for skimming. Basically skimming involved cutting a new flat surface into the running face of the flywheel. Back when the vehicle was new, the flywheel had a smooth and flat running surface. Likewise were the clutch plate pads smooth and flat. Over time, as the clutch plate wears, it can also wear shallow grooves into the flywheel surface or cause the flywheel to wear unevenly (even though by eye it may look flay, it may not run 100% true). If we were to install a new clutch plate without skimming the flywheel, there is chance that it may shudder when engaging. Sometimes you can get away with not skimming the flywheel but most (if not all) manufacturers will only warranty the new clutch plate if the flywheel was skimmed before installing the new clutch. Hope I've explained it correctly. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Curious; there's no pilot bearing for the transmission shaft?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 года назад +1

      Hi Norbie, it doesn't seem so. This is the first time the gearbox and clutch has been removed and there is no spigot bearing. My Hilux has a spigot bearing as i'm sure many other bigger vehicles have. I'm guessing the engineers at Toyota didn't deem it necessary to install one on the Tazz.

    Please I have a question is it expensive to fixed the clutch

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 года назад

      Hi, thats not an easy question to answer as 'expensive' is a relative term. I suppose it depends on where in the world you are and how readily available the parts are, and also if you are able to complete the job yourself. Generally speaking, I would think It would be a mid-range cost repair... For example, Its more expensive than replacing brakes but it's not as expensive as doing a complete rebuild on a motor.
