tips and tricks inside your video hopefully help you
don't forget get your hands dirty
A clutch is a mechanical device that engages and disengages the power transmission, especially from driving shaft to driven shaft.
Clutches are used whenever the transmission of power or motion must be controlled either in amount or over time (e.g., electric screwdrivers limit how much torque is transmitted through use of a clutch; clutches control whether automobiles transmit engine power to the wheels).
In the simplest application, clutches connect and disconnect two rotating shafts (drive shafts or line shafts). In these devices, one shaft is typically attached to an engine or other power unit (the driving member) while the other shaft (the driven member) provides output power for work. While typically the motions involved are rotary, linear clutches are also possible.
In a torque-controlled drill, for instance, one shaft is driven by a motor and the other drives a drill chuck. The clutch connects the two shafts so they may be locked together and spin at the same speed (engaged), locked together but spinning at different speeds (slipping), or unlocked and spinning at different speeds (disengaged).

Thanks so much! Good video with enough detail that a non mechanic like me can actually do this. Other videos just say take this part off, take that part off and just skip the process. Yours has enough detail to to keep track of the process. Thanks!

Hi. I did change the clutch. I had suffered from the weight of the gear box. I am using a simple floor jack. I had to create a king of elevator and so fourth. Your videos helped me a lot. Thanks.

That throttle body is clean lol. If you didn't take any breaks how long is the job total bud? I'm getting mine done for 700 Australian dollars including labour and parts sounds pretty fair they said about 4 hours maybe less just curious if you'd think that was fair of not? Can't find a service manual with time estimates

Out of curiosity, roughly how much would you say the transmission weighed when you took it off the engine?

hi dear how are you? your videos are so good and inspirational for me. so far I have learned quite a few things by just watching your repair videos. I have an audi a3 1.9tdi it's 55 reg. I was just under my car trying to inspect the inner cv joint from the driver side. I realised that the gearbox looked wet and particularly from the inner cv joint.. where the inner cv joint goes in gearbox. the clutch on my car is hard. the gears are not very smooth either however they don't slip. it seems to me that either the clutch cylinder inside is leaking or the seal has perished. the car has 93k on the meter. I was just wondering that if I leave things as it is until the clutch completely goes would the leak cause any serious problem to the gearbox. recently I have topped up the gearbox oil and there is a slight smoothness in gear selection. therfore I need your advice in this regard . I will be grateful for your reply

I have a 2004 Corolla Manual trans and struggling to separate the engine from the trans, I am NOT dropping the transmission, I am instead separating only the block from it from the engine side as the block is chained to a lift hoist (I am doing an engine reconstruction, the clutch change is a bonus as I pulling the engine apart) I have 6 bolts out so far; there are 2 short 14 mm on the bottom by the crossmember bar accessible from the engine side underneath, there are 2 long 17 mm close to the passenger drive axle also reachable from the engine side, then there are 2 17 mm on top of the trans (the head and all hoses and hardnesses are out of the way) and there are 2 long 14 mm holding the starter motor, one from each side of engine and trans..as far as i am concerned all are out, i can pry and separate the two with an inch and half gap but then it feels like the spindle is stuck; the engine block rotates from back to front and vice-versa easy but it would not break lose from the transmission! I have enough clearance on the side of engine as the timing chain cover and all parts there are removed, it is just the block with the flywheel and clutch attached to the transmission; on the trans side it is mounted to the engine mounts securely; why is it not coming out freely the block? what am i doing wrong or missing; manual does not tell, youtube does not tells me either?
