If only people knew the labor of every large order they requested
I don’t sell anything very often if at all, I just like to bake. But I made just over 100 cake pops today, I haven’t even finished them yet and it took me over 5 hours.. then I got told that $100 seemed too high for them all. I still have atleast an hour of decorating them left. I’m still new so figuring out everything takes me longer especially since I usually only do cakes and cupcakes, but I feel like that’s a fair amount.
I would’ve kept her because she was honest. So many consumers accept unacceptable products to avoid conflict when in reality, conflict resolution should be practiced. If she was rude, sure but if she wasn’t happy, she had a right to say she wasn’t.
Anyhow, your channel is amazing, I’ve learned a lot by watching. Thanks for sharing
A little more backstory with the order in the story: the customer only asked me for the character itself, but did not specify any details. The black outline was simply a creative choice and unfortunately it did not go well! I always learned to ask for specifics down to the last minute detail after that one. Running a baking business (or any business!) is all about continually learning and streamlining.
EDIT TO ADD:
*I did not refuse to take another order again from the customer; they simply didn't order again--which quite frankly is understandable! Their critique helped me be clearer in my future communications as I mentioned above. I should have been more clear in my delivery of that in the first place, but I had no idea this particular short would garner so much attention, but I'm grateful for the views so thank you :).
*I baked these cupcakes from scratch and I bake all of my products from scratch. Someone donated a ton of these boxes to me which is why I'm using them up. They were useful for sending guests home with the extras.
Side note: my hair looks like this because I was getting ready for the wedding ;)
Perhaps consider getting a worksheet and making them give details and both signing off with a 50% deposit, or more.
People are gonna not remmber what they want and they will jerk you around!

Just a tip... I worked in a bakery. When u have alot of those plastic containers, place the bottoms in the top. That way they are closer together and u can put more on the table. Then simpley flip the first flap down and u can go straight down the line.
I just put a horror story in the comments about this very thing:).

I don’t think you should’ve not accepted orders from the customer anymore. It was definitely a learning experience & a growing pain for your business. Imagine if she lied about how she felt. You wouldn’t of realized you needed to be more detailed when taking specific orders. Critique is to make things better. ❤
Yea, I was confused about that part too. Maybe there is more to the story bc the customer can have an opinion about the end result. Maybe she was rude about it 🤷🏾♀️.

Unless they were hideous, which I doubt from this baker, the customer was essentially complaining Ashleigh didn’t read her mind. Avoiding overly demanding clients is often good business sense.
I agree! The customer shouldn't be pushed away because she told the truth! It actually helped the baker! Thats the rude part, she wouldn't let her order anymore!!!
You can’t please every one you can only do your best & some customers are very rude so I do not blame her for not taking orders from this customer again

You poor thing, people can be confounding things to deal with. Every time I see these (beautiful) rose cupcakes I remember putting 60 cupcakes on the lid of clear boxes with the base forming a sort of dome. Very pretty and effective. Until someone flipped them all upside down because they thought the lid belongs on top. Must be 15 years and I’m still lost for words.

Get a pair of tongs for the decorations to make it easier to place things like pearls,beads,etc. No accidentally hitting the frosting!❤

Honesty hurts but is a great learning experience. It is all in the delivery. However, I would’ve kept her business if she wasn’t rude. It was her money and you shouldn’t want to give them less than your best even if it hurt. Our eyes get over over worked and minds overwhelmed. Outside input is a need sometimes.
To make it quicker as u open pne try put the next tray in the lid of the open one ull get 2 times as many trays on the table

I would've cancelled her order myself rather than redo it, especially since you planned to not take anymore orders from her again. Some people are so unnecessarily rude. Don't allow yourself to be disrespected like that. Take back your power by refusing/cancelling and you send them a message, they need you as much as you need them!!

Wait a minute!! You use a projector to make your cookies?? Do you have a video showing this? I'm subbing, I'm interested in learning new things and this video made me feel like I'm not alone! Many youtubers who do cake videos always make it look as though everything goes smoothly and they never have a problem! At least i know it's just not me. I was baking for 3 years and then stopped for 2 years because i broke my right arm badly and now I'm going back to baking in the last year!

Good for you girl. I had a coffee shop and made most of the food myself since my staff was very unreliable. So I know what effort goes into making cupcakes for parties. Never taking an order again from her ,- kudos.
It seems to me, starting the frosting with the cc farthest away from yourself and moving towards yourself would be smarter.
I'm seeing a lot of comments hating on the customer, but the baker fully admitted that her product wasn't consistent and had multiple flaws at the time. As a baker, it hurts to hear when someone is disappointed with your work, but when you charge a customer for something and then don't deliver on previous expectations that you've set then you just have to suck it up, wipe your tears, and try again. I've had to do it before and it was my own fault.
The baker in this video seems to understand and acknowledge that she had some issues with consistency at the time. So please y'all: there's no need to get defensive and hate on customers for politely advocating for themselves or expressing discontentment with something they paid money for.
Beautiful cupcakes, but those pearls are a choking hazard I would never use those.

It’s so crazy how I have no idea how to frost but somehow I looked at the frosted flower before she frosted it and automatically knew that flower had to be piped in the middle spiraling outward

There’s two reasons. 1) we saved the packaging till the end of the wedding so guests could take home a small pack of cupcakes and 2) someone donated a ton of 6 count packaging to me 😂❤️

Hmm I’m not sure if Chefmaster orange has the Red 40 dye mixed in, but I really like Chefmaster colours in general! I would definitely double check with wherever you purchase it from. I’m sure the foxes will be super cute 🥰
