It's simply not feasible to gut kitchens to follow frequently changing trends. Smarter to have classic/timeless canvas of cabinets and countertops and update / change with hardware, accessories, decor
Agreed! Classic and timeless is my preference.
A small lamp in the kitchen has always been a part of my life. My grandmother, my mother and I all add a small lamp on the counter. It's so homey and sweet.
The tilers were so happy when they opened the boxes of tile for my Arts and Crafts influcenced kitchen backsplash -- and saw shades of green zelig squares . They said they were bored to tears of white subway tile in white kitchens. Viva color and wood and style!
When everyone was doing the white kitchen, I went with warm wood. Love it!
I love a lamp on a counter as long as you have enough counter space.
Very true! The counter space has to be available.
It's such a special touch. Love it.
“Tired of the visual assault!” Perfect😂🤓
I love small lamps in niches in my kitchen. Warms the space beautifully.
Drawers instead of lower cabinets is the best idea! They have more usable space and I don't have to upend to get to the back of them.
I'm smiling at the sconces idea since I just put them in.
For our recent (probably only and final) house renovation, I decided to go with colors that I look good in based on my best/favorite wardrobe colors. No regard to trends at all. I love it.
I have a new-to-me house with bright shiny white kitchen cabinets. I won’t be replacing them right away, because they’re actually in good condition. I painted the small amount of wall a deep blue and I love it - not on trend, but I think it looks great! (Or, at least as great as it can be). Next adventure - a Roman shade…
Sounds glorious
I love solid surface backsplash 💕
Me too!
Just finished kitchen remodeling. I paid the extra $ for book end my quartzite countertops. Well worth it!! Also. No one seems to talk about quartzite counters. It’s an amazing natural stone. Has depth and beauty of marble. But is more durable than granite. Would love if you included in video
Sounds great! I like quartzite. I will mention it again in future videos that have a segment on countertops and backsplashes.
I so much wanted to put quartzite countertops in my kitchen. But I just flat do not have the money. Maybe someday if I win the lottery. maybe I better start playing the lottery, that might slightly increase my chance of winning.
Yes to a slab blacksplash!
Also I love a lamp in the kitchen
I love it!
When I hear the term "latest in kitchen trends", I immediately think of never-ending updates and costs. I run and stick with the classics. My grandparents 1950s kitchen is still a classic. Other than updating the appliances and some refreshes that have occurred, it is generally the same and it still looks great.
I love sconces in the kitchen and have had them for years above my fireplace.
Am about 2 years from a kitchen reno. Avidly watching your videos on kitchen design and trends. So helpful and inspiring. Thanks!
My pleasure 😊
Oh Garrett! I get a little nervous when you do these kind of videos (ugh, my over the stove microwave) However...yay! I have a lamp on my counter top AND sconces. Thanks for another great video. I enjoy the heck out of you!
I like this sconce idea in the kitchen. I’ve seen lamps in kitchens one in particular where it worked well, it was a very upscale apartment in Chicago and it was a very eclectic kitchen. It just worked. I don’t know why it just felt cozy but in general, I don’t think they do.
Love a lamp on the kitchen counter. I have a small kitchen and I still made room for a small lamp on the counter! It adds so much warmth and coziness in the evening
Love it!!
We updated kitchen 7 years ago, it was a combination of neutrals, including ivory, tan, gray, espresso and a variety of hardware. Sound busy but isn’t. Greige walls. Still love it . And yes we started with the stone and worked around it.
Thanks for sharing! It sounds lovely.
I have those same colors. Looks gorgeous!
I've had oak flooring seamlessly in all rooms except bathrooms and absolutely loved it. Will definitely do it again
Sounds awesome!
Currently saving for a new kitchen and first floor flooring. I already know I'm doing white oak flooring throughout.
I Love Legrand designer light switch plates. I can’t believe high end kitchens don’t address the screw on light switch plates. 😱 For just a little more money, wifi light switches with beautiful switch plates really elevate kitchens and all other rooms. Love your content, Garrett. ❤
Just wait, everything comes back in style. Taupe and maple are back, yay.
That’s why we discuss trends for reference and inspiration but don’t chase them on this channel.
Hello 👋 I never followed a specific kitchen trend I knew what I liked and the must haves in my kitchen and I love it and so does my family. I love these kitchen videos.
Very timely! Great info!
Just got a year ago a modern farmhouse, but did add a blue island and brass faucet, wood shelves....it really is warm (small) and cozy, I think the black and white with some colour on the wood shelves (planters, pottery), and mixed metals (just 2) really warms it up. I know people say modern farmhouse is "out" but I love it (matte backsplash in white, but shiny counter tops)....anyway took forever for me to design, and I just adore it! (i do hate just boring black and white).
I have a lamp on my kitchen counter! And I’m in the process of designing a kitchen, and definitely leaning towards sconces!
I love that shade of blue on you. Very flattering.
Thanks so much!
Happy Sunday Garret and Le Chic family!!!!
Same to you! Thanks for your support.
I have a black & white kitchen which I love, but I have warmed it up with some copper accessories (at least, copper-colored!!! Can't afford actual copper, alas.) And my cabinets don't go all the way to the ceiling -- I can't reach them anyway, and my ladder days are behind me. Just put down paper towel, newspaper, whatever, on the tops of the cabinets and switch them out every few months. Clean and easy. And blue-ish lighting always makes me think of Dexter.
So glad I did a slab backsplash 15 years ago. My kitchen in small yet extremely functional-and I love to cook so slab backsplash eliminated yet another design element. Love love love it.
My kitchen has black countertops with white veining and a very light taupe cabinet and that little bit of warmth in the cabinetry made a huge difference in keeping the space from looking stark
Thanks for your wise insight 🤩. Following trends in kitchen design can be very risky. It’s not just something the majority of us can change every year or two. Your videos always make us smile 🌞
Thanks so much! I appreciate your support.
I've always said that only someone who doesn't cook can appreciate a shinny kitchen. On the other hand, a friend has a matte black-navy kitchen and it's simply hell 😆 I think it's worse than glossy in terms of cleaning. I thought it was magnificent until we started cooking! Slab backsplash continuity of countertop is just WOW! Lamp on countertop this is so funny I try on my countertop and every people say something about this 😆 I think I keep this only to have funny reaction at this point 😆 But I found this lamp very usefull and give soft light ambiance not traditionnel over lightning. Nice video Garrett 💛
Loooove your videos! You always give us a plethora of fantastic content, ideas, and tips! You’re always right(you just are to me)! 😊
I just redid my kitchen (95% done, just waiting for some glass etch work to be finished on some cabinet doors) and I had scones installed flanking the window above the sink. I added them thanks to a suggestion from a video of yours last year and I *** LOVE *** them. Thanks for the inspiration of a fabulous touch to my dream kitchen.
Finished the kitchen several months ago, so I always feel nervous going into these videos. I am happy to say I have avoided a major faux pas (at lease none that bother me). Looking forward to any ideas you have about low ceilings/basements if you think that topic would be popular.
A very good morning Garrett,
I always love a kitchen episode as kitchen and my reading nook are my favourite spots, so thank you for the vlog with the gorgeous kitchen visuals.
I got new cabinets and a combination of draws and shelves and installed the cabinets in all of the pantry,
changed the lighting into recessed and added pendants over the island. A new chimney and the whole cooking range.
However as I am seeing more and more of your vlogs it gives me a real good idea of what would be my ideal kitchen space and how to get it, so thanks a lot for all the episodes you do.
Have a wonderful week and see you soon..xx
My kitchen in Washington state was bright and cozy with rooster decor everywhere. I loved it. Here, it's so small and just functional, though I do try to add my touches.
Concrete countertop..i have one and love it
lamps on the Kitchen counter depend on the space you have and also is you have a speciifc style language you are following. That said, get ready to clean - a lot!
Where I want to put a lamp in my kitchen area does not have an outlet. But I can now get a rechargeable lamp. In short I have a two story home built on a barge. I am having it towed to the city I live in now. Once that is all done, I will definitely be booking an appointment with you.
Sounds great! I look forward to it.
I think a lamp is a poor option on a kitchen countertop since it will be dirty in no time. Love your ideas always:-)
I have two in the kitchen and one has a cream colored shade. As long as they are not near where you’re cooking you are golden.
Always enjoy spending time hearing your design tips, @Garrett LeChic! Thank you bunches!

You are so welcome!
just discovered your channel a few days ago and love it! i'm wrapping up my 1 bed condo remodel this week. the kitchen is pretty small (U shaped), but appears more spacious with the updates. i went with cream slim shaker frameless upper cabs to the ceiling, natural white oak lower cabs (mostly drawers), honed calacatta oro slab porcelain countertops and backsplash. hardware is antique laquered brass handles on the upper & lowers. installed an induction stove, 18 inch wide paneled dishwasher and narrow (24 inch wide) but tall counter depth stainless steel fridge. this gave me more countertop space and it has a euro vibe. i really like the porcelain countertops... cheaper than marble but still has a matte stone feel. the flooring is a wide plank light wood laminate (i said no to LVP) that has a matte wood look. i've learned so much during this remodel process! now i need help with the interior design of my front room and bedroom! do you consult beyond the kitchen?
Thanks for sharing! Yes I consult on all the spaces of your home regarding interior decorating. I’d love to assist. Bookings can be made at intro.co/garrettlechic
Will you please correct me if I’m wrong my husband and I are arguing over this.. Don’t alot of people do their backsplash, the same as their countertops ?
Actually, it’s funny. I just heard you talking about it in your video. You answered my question. 😂😂
👍👍👍
Love this video
Great video, as always thanks!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate your support.
lamp in the kitchen YES
The flat panel, built in refrigerator style is not just in Paris, it's all over Europe and it has been for years 🤗 Also, what if you can't afford the stone countertop, let alone backsplash? With new built appartments here in Belgium, the standard countertop they put in is laminate, and for now, sadly enough, it's all I can afford 🤷🏼♀️
I understand. Affordability is definitely a consideration. That’s why I make videos for all budgets and discuss many design styles. I think what you did is just fine as laminates are durable, more affordable and can look very nice. I didn’t mean to suggest the Parisian apartment style is just in Paris. It’s a popular design style we see in many places around the world.
@@GarrettLeChic It's totally fine, no need to apologize here 🤗 Also, I am planning on changing the countertop as soon as I have the money for it, coz I love those stone countertops and backsplashes, they're beautiful! ❤️
My kitchen is white and grey so I have a very neutral palette to do what i want to do. I have stainless steel appliances and sink and i’d like to change my cabinet pulls to gold but my husband doesn’t agree. what do y’all think?????
Love your channel! And I love that for me...
Here in the first hour! Great tips.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your support. I truly appreciate it.
I'm so happy that I'm part of the LaeChic family!
😊😊😊
Happy Sunday Garrett! I love, love, love, hardwood in the kitchen, and sconces if there’s room. However, I only like a slab backsplash if the stone is beautiful. If it isn’t, it’s an eyesore. Thanks 😊
Same to you! Thanks.
I don't know, I had high gloss cabinetry and now I have matte and I found the glossy ones to be way easier to clean and you'd only seen fingerprints from certain angles. Matte always had dust stuck to it, fingerprints, oils, etc. I'm going back to European style glossy slabs. Just can't decide on countertop color.
I love a bright colorful kitchen, redoing counters and backslash is just not in my budget, so colorful accessories it is.
Paint is a good way to get some color in the kitchen. When I redid my kitchen, I thought I would have some great, colorful backsplash, and then I suddenly realized, but that was not the way to go. Plus, I don’t have much money and I was going to only redo this kitchen one time, so I went with 3 x 12 white subway tile but I painted the kitchen and nice bright, dark mustard color. I can always repaint it but I can never replace those tiles.
When my grandparents were married just after WWII ended my grandmother had a black and white kitchen in the house they built. The accent color was fire engine red and she actually painted one accent wall this color. She was ahead of her time and everyone loved it - the pictures I've seen are gorgeous. I agree that warm neutrals are in fashion but I live in such a hot climate I still favor cool blue and green and white. As for lighting yes to sconces but absolutely no to a lamp on the counter. That is so dated. Excellent as always Garrett!! ☀️🌴🦩❤️😊🥰😍☺️❤️🥰❤️🥰
Thanks for sharing! I also appreciate your support very much.
Cohesion. Enjoy your channel!
❤❤❤
Black on an expansive space in the kitchen. Similar to open shelving. Cleaning will keep you busy.
I've always hated black and white together. White with other colors -- great. Black with other colors -- gorgeous. But the two next to each other is jarring to me. Those black & white checkerboard floors I can hardly look at. I have also always preferred matte to glossy anything. Glad at least a few things I like are in style.
No lamp on my countertop. Not enough space. Takes up valuable space, just another thing to clean. Nope.
Thanks for the comment about flooring transition. I have a dark Brazilian cherrywood floor in my living room and hallway. All the other floors are carpet of in the kitchen old linoleum, which I will be changing, Was in a quandary until you said it would be ok not to have a seamless floor if in another room. I wanted seamless flooring but can not afford to add, nor would it match, the cherrywood floor. Now to figure out what flooring would look good with that darn dark cherrywood.,
Thanks for sharing! I’m glad to do a virtual consultation with you so I can see everything and give you my opinions. intro.co/garrettlechic
@@GarrettLeChic oh you will be seeing me soon. I cant wait to schedule.
@@kristineg8769 Awesome! I look forward to it.
I am also very glad that gray is going out of style. Of course having said that, I painted the inside of my house with all kinds of bright, vibrant colors. And the outside is gray and white. Oh well. At least I don’t have gray floors. I don’t know one single person who put in gray floors that actually likes them now.
Garrett question... can you see placing washable contact paper over a backsplash? My motif is white french farmhouse but I am bored with my white subway tile. Also, what is not white is either blue or brown here in the country. Thanks doll!
You can, just be sure to check reviews of the contact paper, may are thin and tear or leave a residue behind!
@@GarrettLeChic ok
Parisian style kitchens = No upper cabinets. Ackk! They must budget way more time for grocery shopping than I am willing to do. Besides two adults, we have three kids plus pets who eat like there is no tomorrow and we cook at home for most meals. Need both the wall pantry storage and upper cabinets for items like cereal, pet food, and other staples.
I definitely understand. A design style has to be functional for your needs. Not every style fits all lifestyles. That’s why I make many videos that address different budgets, options and styles.
Most of the Actual Parisian kitchens DO have upper cabinets - the stores being near does aloow for frequent shopping, but still - one needs to store the staples and cookware and other kitchen stuff, and the surfaces are small so one NEEDS to use that vertical space if one isn’t a minimalist...
(Edited to add: I do realise that Garrett was speaking about Parisian STYLE, which wouldn’t quite be the same as actual-real-Parisian, bus as you said ”they” in your comment I thought you were referencing Parisians rather than people-wherever-they-live who chose tht style of kitchen. If I misunderstood, sorry!)
Up ❤🎉🎉🎉
👍👍👍
The seamless kitchen to living room in open concept is tough. Thats a huge expense
It can be, but it looks the best and feels well designed and timeless.
@@GarrettLeChic yes for sure looks the best.
I am so over white on white on white! People put color in your life!
I still love my white on white. It allows me to add and change whatever colors I want. It also encourages me to keep it clean and neat.😀
@@user-co5xx7sk6p I am! OCD! Can’t keep white clean if you cook! 😀
Don’t come for my black and white kitchen 😭😭😭 but my fridge is hidden I have arch and small bold colorful elements and a huge ass window so trying to save my black and white from sterile and boring
Also it’s matte! With flat cabinets
👍👍👍😁😁😁
