This is one of my favorite Rush songs
Greatest band ever!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is an underappreciated gem. Interestingly, it seems to describe some of Neil's feelings of social isolation and alienation, but as is the case with so many of their songs, it remains relevant as it beautifully describes human experience.
love this song, always have. Geddy absolutley kills it!
Yep. I just watched another reactor, not this one. He was kind of unimpressed. All I could say was, you don't get it.
As a drummer, I just love the drums in this song. So cool so unique and just fun to play. Rush packed a lot in this short song didn’t they?
Just the way they start the verses with Geddy and a massive snare and symbol is enough to make me love Rush forever. A BOY alone so far from home... fantastic. Who else would do that? I am no lover of hyperbole, but they are simply the greatest band I've ever heard.
This is one of my favorite Rush tracks. Hard Prog all the way, it just jabs and lurches along with these crazzzy wide intervals in the melody and unusual chord changes. A potent theme too; 'more changes ALSO mean more of the same', We can choose our course but we cannot always control the outcome, shit just happens. I wish they wrote more songs like this one, it is one of those rare 'first person' perspective pieces from Neil in the 70s.
Listen to Geddy's playing during the verses. INSANE.
How he can play those lines while singing and then hopping over to the moog to play the little bridge and playing the Taurus pedals here and there will never not blow my mind
I have never been able to wrap my head around Geddys playing and singing in the verses. Puts him at the top for bass players.
Geddy kills it!
This is the first RUSH song I ever heard.
I was just a boy of 12 back in 1978 when this album came out.
Been hooked ever since.
Blessed to have seen them something like 32 times and met them briefly once.
They will never be matched - truly awesome.
This sorg is great, When they pulled it out of the vault and played it live in '07, it was off the charts. Of course it was a couple of steps lower than the original, but it was still one of the songs that made the show..
"That's a new sound" - Hey Tim, thanks for pointing this out. Listening chronologically like you are is great, and you noticed something that I had not thought of, even as a lifelong Rush fan.
I think circumstances is my favorite short song these guys do, absolutely love Rush
This is about Neil's time in the UK before Rush. he puts his feelings right out there on this song.
And we were forever grateful that he didn’t give up after such a let down in the UK. Thank goodness he came back to Canada and ended up being “the Professor”!!
@@lisaharrison1031 Life has hurdles. Awesomeness and hard work always gets you there.
Circumstances is a hidden gem. They brought it back to the live set for the Snakes and Arrows tour in 2007. It got a rather muted response from sections of the crowd at the back who were only there for the "hits", but us diehards at the front were in heaven!
I’ve seen them three times and they never played this one. 💔
@@sarahzentexas Likewise, 3 times all here in the UK. Never saw this live, alas. What a band: one of the greatest to have ever made music in my humble opinion.
@@davecole2561 That was the only tour where they played it since the 70s. I've seen them on every UK tour since 1981 plus the Vapor Trails tour in the U.S.
@@grahamkey8496 a true Rush fan has written! You lucky man having seen them live in the early 80s. I came late(ish) to the holy triumvirate when a schoolfriend played me some Hold your fire in '88 (I think). I was an impressionable 14 year-old and suffice to say this band have made a huge impression on me ever since. They're truly one of the greatest for me. Merry Christmas!
This is indeed, my favorite Rush album.
I was just thinking that… then I remembered Permanent Waves is up next. Oh man.
One of my favourite songs from Rush, along with one of my favourite French sayings.🇨🇦
My fave song on this album.
Thanks for spreading the joy,,,understanding,, and ultimately....... the vision of RUSH!
There are 2 rush songs i always thought were written about me .Circumstances for when i first left home and Subdivisions for when i was in school. Now im in my 50s ill add Time stand still,so thats 3.
This was the 2nd song from Rush I ever heard. It was the B-side on The Spirit of Radio single. I was 12 and have been a diehard Rush fan since.😂👍🤘🏻🔥🎧
My sister had The Spirit Of Radio single, but The Trees was the B-side (I'm British, so maybe it was different to North America).
Very cool that you guys had singles of this! I was strictly an album guy! 😉
Great album. One of my Favourites. As they all are, to be honest. Love the 5/8, 6/8 part.
One of my favorite lessor known Rush songs.
Plus ca change, ou c'est la meme chose... Geddy bringing it in French & English!
one of my favorite to play on guitar. So fun!
Circumstances & Cygnus-X1 book 1... are my absolute favorite Rush tunes. To me, these songs stand on their own and separate from all others. A Farewell To Kings is right there with them, IMO..
Love this man! Keep it up Brother!
This at their prog peak! Hemispheres!
This song is mixed different than the rest of the album, in the verse parts all three instruments are playing front center, Rush usually splits their sound , as they do in the bridge section.
"plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose" 3:25 Sooo Rush-y! Crank it!
Love Love Love this song!❤
Top 3 Prog riff introduction all time
Fastest click in weeks! So glad to see you back. :) Yep a great song, just missing some Alex solo work, but still loved it all.
Love to see you back! See you in part II!
This one and Limelight are my Rush Top 1
Both are unbelievable, musically and lyrically. And every time we listen, we hear something new and fresh. My goodness, what a band...
Hemispheres is the best Rush . I love this album,
RIP Neil 🙏
that bass line
Listen to that Bass line Geddy is ripping the entire song while singing!
The more listens to the first track and it just gets better and better.
Geddys bass in full gallop 🐎
God I love Alex Lifeson
accidentally left it at 2x for the beginning of the track, totally sounded like "The Dickies"!
🎸🥁🎸
🐐🐐🐐
I just love this song, not really sure why!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Hemispheres or Farewell to Kings. Cast yer votes!
I believe "The Looking Glass" by Dream Theater was slightly influenced by this song.
Imo the best bass performance by Geddy in the whole catalog
Dream Theater soon?
Yes! I'll Finish up that first album in my next sitting! Been crazy busy but dying to get back to a consistent posting of other bands as well
This album is 4/4... well, not too much 4/4... but.. well.. you know what I mean :P
You're still not at the best song on the album yet ;)
