- I've explained this on the previous video featuring Star Fox 2 footage, but in a nutshell, this is the 64 Star Wolf theme, but made to fit within the SNES' 8 instruments at a time limitation.
This is a re-upload. The skip during the first second glitch struck again, ruining the nice intro to the song. From now on I'm including a 1 second buffer on my music uploads.

11 years later and I still have no idea how you did it, you made SNES Star Fox perfection right here. This is one of my favourite versions of this incredible theme, becuase I love the SNES Star Fox instrumentation just THAT much! It's pure magic to my ears

I'm pretty glad that I happened to find out about Star Fox 2 very shortly after the game was originally leaked back in 2003-2004 or so. :)
damn, just the intro gave me chills from how legit this sounds.
You know what's funny...the SNES had a far superior sound chip to the N64...so much so that the N64 sounded tinney by comparison.
+John Rickard the SNES chip was made by sony and it was one of the best of it's time. And it was a separate chip, meaning you had memory for the sound & for the game.
On the N64, music actually affected performance according to a Factor 5 interview made by IGN in 1998.
Le Docteur That is very true. From what I recall, the N64 had a grand total of 2 sound channels - one per output channel. In order to get more than that, the CPU or Co-CPU would have to mix the sounds, which did impact performance - sometimes significantly.
John Rickard Yes this version sounds better and it hurts because the N64 is my favorite console and also yes Nintendo did kinda screwed themselves up with the sound chip so not only was storage very limited but sound too! For example in Mario Kart 64 in 3 and 4 player modes there is no music to try and squeeze out some more frames out of the console and even with no music the game still runs around 15-20 frames and with limited storage the quality of the music was reduced.
Maybe, but as a trade-off, the N64 could produce more sounds at once so you didn't have any sound effects or notes cutting out at times like the SNES had with some games. the SNES could only produce so many sounds at once, so during a platformer or action game with lots of stuff going on at once with background music, oftentimes a sound effect wouldn't register, or certain notes would cut out.
@@kefka3 True. Although some sounds do still cut out in the N64 it's still way less noticable. Plus it can make alot more complex music.

Anyone else hyped about Star Fox 2 coming to the SNES classic?
The release of SF2 was such an incredible surprise, they should do an N64 classic and include another cancelled game. There's FE64, 64 Wars, Mother 3 on N64 and more I can't think of at the moment. IDK if any those got finished, but hey we want unfinished builds of games too! OoT and SM64 protos are in high demand.

Well, the Star Fox 2 theme was pretty close to this too.
It was an 8 channel limitation not instrument. This great nonetheless
I know. Though, this wouldn't work in game because a channel would be dedicated to the engine sounds.
