Also check out the codemasters forums, as I am regularly active there and you might catch up on some rumors for future DLC. At least the Subaru Impreza WRC from 97-99 seems more and more likely to be on the Horizon :)

Keyboard driver here: I coast into turns off the throttle and exit corners in higher gears with lower revs to reduce wheelspin. I never use the handbrake, it's way too unpredictable. If I have to use low gears, I shortshift out of them on corner exit to prevent wheelspin. Very careful taps of the gas to keep the car stable in corners with low grip. My diff setups are usually very open with lots of preload to minimize oversteer and have the car be very stable at the rear. A very stiff front swaybar and very loose rear swaybar, along with the rear spring rate always being slightly softer then the front, helps with rear end stability. For allignment it depends on the stage, Sometimes I set it up to be a little more oversteery on super technical stuff like Argentina and Greece, while I want it to be very planted and understeery on tarmac and fast gravel stuff like Poland and Spain and Finland.
I do have an achilles heel though: Mid engined rear wheel drive cars on tarmac. They have a lot of lift off oversteer and... I have a hard time preventing it on a keyboard.

I'm by no means a quick keyboard RWD driver; however I've been able to complete stages with powerful RWD cars without killing myself. First, we want to be able to emulate gentle inputs with our button presses. The way to do this is by going to the settings and messing with the brake saturation/throttle saturation; the higher the saturation, the smoother the input will become. It must be said that there is a downside to this: when we want to accelerate quickly on a straight, we wont be able to floor the accelerator since the input will take longer to go to 100%; thus losing a bit of time in some sections. Personally, I have my brake saturation at 110 and throttle saturation at 116. I'm comfortable with those numbers and I found them through trial and error.
Second, racing technique. The way I go around most corners follows the basic racing principles. When approaching a corner, I brake and after a second I turn in as I'm braking (really depends on the speed I'm carrying and the radious of the corner). This transfers the weight to my front tires producing more grip. After the turn in, I release the brakes and coast through the apex. This has the added side effect to produce oversteer, since most of the load is still in the front, a bit of countersteer is necessary (depending on how hard we yeeted the car into the corner). Finally, as the car is coming out of the corner and is pointed to the road (straight), and you know, not into the trees; I press the throttle key and hopefully live to tell the tale.
I've only been racing for about 100 hours in Dirt rally 2.0 and it's really my first racing game so I'm subject to being catastrophically wrong, any corrections are greatly appreciated and big sowwy for my crappy english.
    :ddd

I was crashing into everything when I first played it and now it gives me so much joy when the car does what I want it to do. I've applied that knowledge to the Fiat Abarth and Lancia Stratos. • @gigadonis8684
    @gigadonis8684 4 года назад +14

    The secret ingredient isn't crime...
    but PATIENCE
Even if the car is totally straight, DO NOT SLAM THE GAS! You may not crash, but your wheels will just uncontrollably spin, causing the car to just not move since you have zero grip on the rear. Also, drive as smoothly as possible. When your in the car it may feel fast, but it probably isn't. The more control and confidence you have, the faster you will drive. Gently pull the handbrake in tight corners. Don't yank it like you do in TESCO car park. The car will just nope right into a tree or wall or dive down a cliff like it thinks it's Tom Daly. Don't make the car too sluggish either, especially in historic cars with no power steering. Your arms will tire out because you rely too much on pendulum turns to make the car turn, and a tired driver is never a good driver. GOOD LUCK, AND NEVER GIVE UP

All you gotta do is not be stupid an think you can floor it all the time when ur learning rwd but a lot of people think u cant floor it at all with rwd but u can if u can react quick enough an use the right amount of countersteer to stop it from spinning out.rwd is just about feeling an balancing the car and being smooth with the steering cuz any irratic steering inputs will just fuck you up an if you feel like your gonna spin out jus let off the throttle.if ur just spinning out with rwd when tryna drift ur not countersteering fast enough you've gotta move with the car an feel when the rear wheels are making u go sideways and its also really important to learn how exactly the car reacts to everything cuz if you know how its gonna react then you know what you gotta do before it happens.and a lot of people are talking about shifting early an shit on exit of corners...dont do that if ur using peddals an that u jus gotta be smooth onto the throttle an you can rev it all the way on exit an that kinda takes me back to not being irratic with shit cuz if you just stamp the throttle to the floor without being smooth you got more chance of having an unstable an shitty exit an every input causes weight transfer so if your not smooth your making all these sudden weight transfers that will just make the car come off balance.an some important advice is dont think about changing the car too much if ur fucking up think about what you might be doing wrong an improve.an if anyones doubting what im saying im in top 100 on every finish stage with escort an have gotten within top 100 a lot with the 037 (dont wanna sound cocky tho jus saying so people can take my advice serious lmao).

Keyboard main here. You need to set it up correctly and have quick fingers.
    Steering sensitivity 100
    Steering linearity 10
    All deadzone set to 0
    All saturation set to 100
If you want to apply partial throttle or partial braking you just need to tap the keys very quickly, the quicker you go, the lighter the input is. Shortshift on purpose if necessary and with an open diff you can avoid very precise steering inputs, the car will just do them for you by sliding. It's like playing a very complex composition on the piano.
But I've been doing it this way since NFS Underground was a new game and there's no turning back now. I can get to top 50 on the leaderboards on a good day.

Manual + higher gears in corners + spam the acceleration to keep it at a reasonable speed through the exit, after that maybe downshift and accelerate when the car is stable and the wheel is str8. Also i'm playing rwd in daily/weekly/monthly challenges only, keep it safe by driving slow and i'm getting at least in top 1000(which may be bad for someone experienced, but hey...i started enjoying this game a little bit in the past few months, from dnf to finishing).
