Chicago Street Photography | Canon AF35M + Portra 400

I left Chicago 17 years ago. Since then I've only made it into the city one or two times and it was always brief. Something that required focus, time spent with others. Never on my own with the space and time to explore.
Especially since starting a family.
But a recent solo trip to Chicagoland (the area around Chicago) for a family event gave me the perfect chance to take the train into the city two days in a row...and spend the entire day wandering the Loop.
These are photos and video from my 2nd full day. I opted to take my 1979 Canon Sure Shot / AF35M / Autoboy so I could work my way through my entire collection of point & shoot cameras and rangefinders through this channel.
I also decided it was time I shot my first roll of Portra 400. That's right - my very first roll. And of course there were issues with the camera and its light seals. Possibly even issues with the shutter mechanisms because I have two frames that are completely white (like the shutter opened but didn't close down again) and another frame that's all black (like the shutter didn't open).
I'm going to replace the light seals and possibly test the camera again (I have two more of them and one of those two is in more pristine condition).
I will say that I'm very, very pleased with Portra 400. I didn't have to do too much with the Midwest Film Co. scans I received - mostly just add a luma curve and tweak the highlights, midtowns and shadows. I wanted the blacks to be more prominent in these shots, and I find myself moving toward deeper, richer blacks in general.
I'm pleased with the photos I got although the AF35M also missed focus on a few shots including one I was really disappointed with but that's what you get with a 44 year old point & shoot.

I can't express how great it was two spend two full days in Chicago making work. I had some great food, some excellent coffee and felt like I was a kid in my mid-20s again roaming the city I used to call home. I hope you get lost in the vibe with this photo video... Thanks for watching.
