    I am confused as I have been watching RUclips for many years and learned how to build my first computer when the 2080 super launched. You are the first person to ever give the proper review on a motherboard which RUclipsrs with millions of viewers don't go into the detail that you do. When I buy a motherboard, I want to know How many M.2's I can use, is the board built right with good components and will my GPU run the way it should which you tell it all. 6 or 8 layer PCB's also means a lot as the more layers the better signal from the CPU and better heat dissipation from the VRM's.

  • @DizConnected

    The one thing I've noticed with the X870 NON-E Motherboards is that they have a dedicated non-switched PCIe 50 x16 GPU slot, while most of the X870E motherboards have the PCIe 50 x16 GPU slot on a PCIe switch and share lanes with either another PCIe slot or a couple of M.2 slots. The ASRock X870E is the only one I know of that has a dedicated x16 PCIe 5.0 GPU slot. It might be better to get a X870 over a X870E for this reason.

    Thank you for comparing a handful of boards. I've built several computers for both myself, my dad, and a friend over the years but I've always been lost when it comes to motherboards. I had narrowed my choices down to the Tomahawk, TUF Gaming, and b650e Aorus and maybe a few other b650e's. I was already leaning towards the Tomahawk based on comments in a few other videos and some reddit browsing but I think this video has finally sold me on the Tomahawk. I was hoping to save a bit of money on the B650E boards that seem to be a little bit cheaper but fuckin hell I'm already going to be spending $3k on a new cpu/mobo/ram and the new 50 series when it comes out, what's another $60?

      Like most things it depends on your use case. Based on my understanding I would personally recommend the X870E Nova as it offers all features the average person would want and more while still not being overly expensive. Sure, you can probably get away with something cheaper but if you don't know your future needs spending a little extra is worth it for the peace of mind. You can always buy a more expensive board but let's be honest, if you don't know you need a 500 dollar board you are not someone who needs it.

    It turns out the main problem with the ASRock Nova (for me) is it doesn't have any x4 PCIe slots (which I need for a Blackmagic Decklink card). Since I like the MSI Carbon, I'll probably end up with that one. I suppose I could also look at X670E boards, but I really like some of the convenience features on these new boards.

      @RKBenchmarker Месяц назад +4

      As he mentions at 0:14-0:26, this tier list is the non-E single chipset boards. The Nova is in a different offering/class and is in his x870e version tier list video from 2 weeks earlier than this video - check it out. However, to compare some of the main differences of the Nova to his top-ranked non-E Tomahawk: The NOVA - $50-$100 more... has 1 more USB-A and more faster USB-A's... PCIE_3 is only Gen3 x2 and shares lanes with the slow gen3 x2 M.2_5 (you can only use one or the other and only at x2 meaning 2 lanes, not 4). In this regard, the PCIE_3 is better on the Tomahawk being an x4 (providing 4 lanes instead of only 2), and this is a very important feature that puts the Tomahawk ahead of the Nova. ---- BOTH offer PCIE_1 (GPU) with no lane sharing... and 4 M.2s; however, on the Tomahawk, if you use the M.2_3, then PCIE_3 will run at x2. And M.2_3 will be disabled if PCIE_3 is used and set to x4 in the bios. At this price point, how many people are using 4 M.2s? Overall, I'd choose the Tomahawk. But if your use-case needs one more M.2 and the pcie slots are no issue for you, then the Nova may be your choice. The Tomahawk is hard to beat for $300 - and it often is listed for $250, which is near impossible to beat! I hope this info was helpful. (What a way to start a Sunday morning lol)

      @@xennori1409 all E versions like you say are mostly more complete than non-E versions. So compare the tomahawk vs the strix is a bit non-sense because "of course" the strix is better, but again it's not really the same range of products ( in terms of price).
      When I compare some boards, I check what we have for the quality/perf/functionalities per price...

    People i need help. I want to upgrade to am5, i only want pcie gen5 x16 for gpu and analog 5.1 audio connection. Its either Asus b650e-f ( b650e-e is outside of my budget) or X870 Tuf plus. Am i missing any other sub 300 euro board with that ?

    Just bought the x870 aorus elite wifi 7 ICE, for me gpu sharing lanes in x8/x4/x4 is completely ok, because theorically 5x8 pcie port = 4x16 pcie port, we have no gpu on the market with pcie 5, so it's completely ok, I prefer to have 3x gen5 slots for my M2.
    The tomahawk is nice but I don't want run my nvme gen 5 in x2 😢 or choose to desactivating the usb 4 ports (its an heresy) to have the M2 slots in pcie 5x4 speeds. It's a non sense. And I think you loose some usability, I prefer have them ( usb 4 ports )available to link some external drives ; and the speeds benefits of your nvme gen 5 drives.
    I prefer the 3 slots in gen 5 of the aorus.
    Asrock nova, and Taichi lite are bangers in X870E.
    For my use, this aorus elite wifi 7 is so cool 😎 even the 60 A vrm ( 😕..80 A could be cool...)
    I'm waiting the shipping, with XPG lancer rgb DDR 6000 C30 white 32Gb.

    Just wanted to reach out to say you are completely full of it. I bought the MSI X870 Tomahawk off your recommendation and found it can't even boot on standard 6000mhz expo speeds for most ram kits. Just a quick google search and there are literally dozens of posts from people with different kits who cant even get basic EXPO to work. Thanks for wasting hundreds of $ and dozens of hours of my time with your poorly researched trash list. Never taking your advice again.
