Great Video, Thanks, I am going for the reel. Next Question-What brand rod and how long for long casts do you recommend. looking for as light as I can afford to match with that 18 ounce reel.
Dropping this here in hopes that you or another viewer will have an idea what’s going on. I have the same reel in both a long cast and standard spool version, both the same size and same 30lb power pro. I’ve tried the long cast on 5 different rods with various guide layouts and it gets wind knots or tangles on the first guide on 1/5 casts (even on tangle-resistant k-type guides). This has been with lure weights throughout the rated range of the different rods I’ve tried it on. Though the faster the line comes off the spool the more this seems to happen, so with a heavier lure and a strong cast. If I put the standard spool on, it get zero issues. I’d love to have this reel be more reliable, as I have noticed about 10% more distance when it does cast right compared to the standard spool, but the amount of tangles it gets makes it unusable. I’ve looked at guide layouts and the distance, size, etc. of the guides compared to the spool diameter seem to be in the right range so at this point I have no idea what’s going on.
@danielcooper5636 interesting, I've yet to have a wind knot on mine. I'm gonna do some more testing, this is the first time I hear of this from anyone that has purchased the reel.
@@BeachBomberFishing I’m thinking maybe the correct spacing to and size of the first guide is different on the long casts than it is on a regular type spool. My buddies that watch me cast say they can see the line like bunching or hanging up in the first guide so it’s def not right.
@@robertherman1146 Oh it's a different reel. Let me clarify, the one I was talking about is the spinfisher VI in 5500 both long cast and standard spool versions. I do have this reel and the surk 8k too, neither of them have the problem that the spinfisher does. I've tried it on rods with the giant spinning guides set close to the reel (penn prevail and squadron), k-type guides that are set to the k concept layout (tsunami airwave elite, century custom designed for a 5-6000 size reel), and with k-type super far from the reel seat (okuma rockaway HD). In other words it seems like the guide layout doesn't make any difference. Thanks
I been looking try one this type reels, can this handle those heavy bat rays? Or sharks you think? I have a twin power and Stella but I want another reel to collect.
I started seeing long spools in the mid90's & they are great. In fact I always got an extra spool w/ good line setup in the event of a problem w/ my other spool(stuff happens?)..... but also in the number of bearings that makes the drag smooth. Bad drag that's too tight or jerky in it's performance looses fish. And the ratio of hand turns to spool I always tried to get over 5 to 1 but in the 90's that wasn't available on bigger reals. Thanks for this video, I'm looking hard. Hope the kids r good. peace
Good job on selling their reels & I know you're using them all the time. This is slack fishing season up in Canada so all you do now will set their spring sales ~ Good luck, I hope they do well. 17lb test has caught very large fish out in open waters... a lady got 300Lb fish on 17lb line but it took over 3 hrs to fight it. You could do 100lbs of shark just so there isn't any rock/debris to break the line. Love the show, informative. peace & GB You/yours
Ok Carlos, what do you think with the Flite or the Surf? I planned on buying the Surf but the Flite looks perfect for jetty fishing and my Wife of 43 years says I new reel and stick. I know it sounds funny but 43 years means she doing the banking. Lol
Hey man im looking to buy my forst surf rod and reel. What would you recomend for me to get with a budget of 300 to 350.. i like the reel in this video but is it too much or do you recomend somethig else .. this will be my first setup and i want something that i will like for a long time not looking to upgrade soon. Please help if you read this comment. Im in corpus too haha.
@@BeachBomberFishing Sorry but don't understand hat lmfao means? I am awaiting delivery for one and will post a picture of the boxed contents. How do you think it compares to a Spinfisher Long Cast. The Okuma retails at £193.75 here but is easily available at £159.99 which makes it about $200 but with 2 extra spools.
Idk man, the bays are gonna be so fresh from all that rain that you're gonna end up catching bass and blues in then 🤣. I'd probably go to seawolf park.
@joshhalloutdoors9900 Goose is going to be very fresh from all the rains. I have seen reports of drum and reds over in the Humble channel area piers like red dot pier and causeway pier.
Buy the Okuma Obsidian version, exactly the same reel but comes in black with an extra spool plus line reducers. You can also buy extra spools from MV Spool.
*Soaking bait for full of Bull Reds, or what I like to call Bullshit Reds isn't really "surf fishing," it's just the ocean version of fishing for trash Carp, and it's no coincidence Reds look like Carp. Both are big, dumb, ugly, useless fish. I wouldn't spend $ to even buy flea market tackle to fish for them.*
@@BeachBomberFishing *Well, I grew up slinging plugs and metal for Stripers and Blues, so it's hard for me to look at this as "surf fishing," but you can categorize it any way you want. Comparing this to real surf fishing is like saying a Gafftop is no different from a Bluefin Tuna, since they both live and swim in the ocean.*
You sound like a cancer. Go back to fishing for stripers & blues if that’s your thing. If you’re to add something meaningful to the convo, it would be helpful. Trolling is a waste of everyone’s time. A lot of us are big into fishing the surf for whatever catches your interest. I primarily fish for reds & pompano, but I don’t trash talk those who fish for trout, black drum, etc. Do better next time.
Like the way your mic picked up the fish’s drumming. Sounds like the pier got a new sound system!
That was purely accidental too, I guess the $100 mic finally paid off and justified the cost 🤣
@@BeachBomberFishingand I thought you guys had brought some good tunes out for the cold weather! lol
SOLD! The wife has been wanting a new surf reel and I think this is the one...and I will get one for myself as well.
My wife has casted my one of the flites pretty good. She likes it because it's lighter than some of the other spinning reels.

I was typing longstroke spool while you said it,cool looking surf reel.Braiad likes to dig into the spool too.
Braid loves to dig in, most of my backlashes come from braid.
I've worked my way back to mono, too!
Okuma surf 8k or okuma flite surf which should I buy ?
How does this reel handle salt and sand? Do you know how sealed this reel is?
It isn't sealed
Definitely gonna have too add this reel to my arsenal
Hell yeah bro, put a big shark on it too
Beach Bomber could you do a review and personal opinion on "Bionic Finger" or "Cannon Trigger"
For sure, I can do that as a short video on Instagram.

What do you mean “standard spool version”, it only comes with one spool.

Saludos desde Uruguay Que nylon recomiendas para este reel sería para pescar en la costa
Can you do a video on how to build certain fishing rigs? Like one for sharks, reds n whatnot
Hi great videos long time fan , my question is do u think a floating style braid will cast better than mono? Or the same?
Cool. So, 17 lb mono is enough for most bull reds? Do you use 17 for Jacks as well?
You can use 17lb mono for reds. For jacks it'll work, you'll just be fighting them for a looooong time lol
Thanks!@@BeachBomberFishing
My Penn Slammer III stacks line up on the bottom of the spool. Man that thing burns me up sometimes and I paid $350 for that reel 4 yrs ago.

do you think the Flite would be good for pier shark fishing?

how much further were you able to cast ???

For surf fishing, should I get an 11’ or 12’ rod? I just got my first conventional reel.
12ft for max distance
