I love my 12 ugly stick and 8000 Penn pursuit 3 with 50-pound braid and 80-pound shock leader and I'm going to get an Offshore Angler Ocean Master Stand-Up Rod with a 14/0 Penn senator can't wait to hit the beach again
When surf fishing I bring my 11 foot ugly stick big water spinning rod, my penn fierce 8000, 40 pound braid, and for bait always shrimp and always bloodworms. I also usually dig up some sand fleas when the surf is super rough and save them for the next couple days.
I used to be an avid fisherman years ago. But I stopped & I haven’t really fished in about a decade because life got in the way like it always does lol. BUT… I recently was handed down my friends old fishing gear after he unfortunately passed away. His wife wanted me to keep his memory alive by becoming a fisherman again. So how could I refuse lol? I’m currently trying to relearn how to setup rigs, tie knots & everything else. So your channel has been VERY helpful for me. Thanks, I really appreciate it. If my friend were alive today & Id definitely recommend your channel to him✌🏾🤜🏾🤛🏾
This was a great video, I like how you showed how far you cat out. You showed from baiting the hook to releasing the fish. Very helpful, thank you!!!!!
A couple of weeks ago after no luck on the beach, I watched a video on his surf fishing tips, came home with a 23.5 inch red on a $100 pole and reel. What he teaches works on any equipment.
I just love your passion and attention to detail. And your awesome openness to share your experience. Thank you both. I’ve learned so much from your video’s.
Been watching your videos lately, to be honest you're the only youtuber I've watched when it comes to fishing. Haven't tried fishing but your videos making me think otherwise. Good job and your contents are great.
@@HeySkipper You know what, I bought myself some gears last night. Applied for a fishing license (it's required in my country). Gonna go out fishing as soon as that comes out. Thanks for inspiring me and others to go on and fish. I am going to actually watch your video on the T-knot for a hi-lo rig in a minute. Keep up the good work man, regards to your family from mine.
@Buffoon Lagoon Fishing it would have to be sea bass they are so hard fighting and also taste delicious there is a limit per person to keep the numbers managed
Hey, one quick question. I bought my 4wd truck specifically with this in mind, plus I wanted a truck, lol. But I have found that, where I normally go is bogue banks, you have to have a permit to drive on the beach in some places. Did you have to get a permit to drive on the beach there? Also, for a future video, could you do one where to test or recommend a fishing cart or backpack to carry your poles and gear. I am a disabled vet, and my legs don't work so well due to nerve damage, and the soft beach sand is killer. So if you could do a recommendation video for carts or backpacks that can help disabled people get to the beach, that would be super helpful. Thanks and keep up the great work. I have finally perfected the T knot thanks to your video.
where I fish in the sand I really enjoy doing, but the waves are very big, it can reach 2 meters and 3 meters, in this channel I learn more, greetings from Indonesia🇮🇩
Love your videos. I have learned so much from you and your dad. My friend and I have been going done to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a couple years now. We have caught alot more fish thanks to you. We are heading down after Easter again this year. Your family would be welcome to join us for some great surf fishing.
I have three surf rod and reels I bought for $20 (total) at a yard sale. Two 12ft and one 15ft. All three have 20 pound mono on them. I use a Walmart high/low rig with circle hooks. Haven't lost a fish yet but then again I haven't gotten anything huge yet.
Phenix is a huge brand over here in Southern California. Used for yellowtail to tuna, we get 8-10 foot ones and use them to cast surface irons. I personally used to own a phenix axis 8’. Great rod overall. Ended up giving that one to a buddy and got a shimano teramar
@@ForgivenSheep3 my buddy deserves it. He’s wanted an axis for a long long time. Works hard but Never made the money to buy one because of his living expenses. So I gave mine to him and I got something new
I may get a St Croix and hear ODM rods are excellent as well. You convinced me on the Shimano reels. I used to be a Penn person but don't think the quality is there anymore. I got a BaitrunnerD in June-they're excellent- It's like you said-Shimano's are more refined, higher quality than Penn's. I think with these lightweight reels, carbon rods and 30lb braid line, that's the ideal setup for most surf casting conditions.
We ended up making spikes out of metal fence posts and have something welded to the top to screw in rod holders. I needed some holders and that was what my dad had available at the time.
Hey Skipper I just got the deluxe kit I order from you and very happy with it ,hopeing to catch lots of fish this weekend..I have a question, im wanting to order a second box ,but the empty one so I can have 2 boxes ,one for the squid and one with the shrimp and clam.but im wanting to know if you sale the salt or the stuff you keep it fresh in so when I catch bait I can keep it in with the shrimp also ,couse its not enough salt to hold bait and the shrimp together.
Dude, these videos are awesome! I used to go beach fishing with my dad and grandfather in Virginia Beach early in the mornings and it was soo fun catching spot and croakers alotta times twice on those double rigs using bloodworms...your videos bring back great memories and info...Great Job!
I love your content. I would love if you could come to California again to do more content. Info online is lacking around me and hardly compares to yours. I feel like the scene is so different than every other state. I mainly do pier and beach fishing but I can't read any of it or know what is best. Looking forward to trying out some of these techniques!
Skipper, if you want maximum distance you should try a clip down rig. It keeps the bait inline with the sinker till splash down. You can buy them ready made up or buy the components and make your own like I do.
Bees wax on the zippers could help just found this page when looking for a definitive way to load new line on a reel . you and your family make me feel very hopeful for the future thank you both for giving something very special 😎🍀.🌈🐟🦐
Me and my family are going to Panama City for vacation I like to fish when I’m on vacation but never do very good what do you suggest for fishing from the beach in Panama City in late July
Hey there just came across you. Thanks for sharing. You mentioned NC. Just built a beach house on topsail and was curious what beach you were on… along with a bunch of other questions as I know nothing about surf fishing. Thanks again and stay well.
To help fix your zipper use some paraffin or candle wax helps reduce friction and doesn’t have chemicals that will breakdown your neoprene. Just rub the wax on the zipper teeth and work the zipper up and down a few times.
It’s been way too long since I’ve gone and shore fished or pier fished. So I bought a starter kit (slab, tentacles and shrimp) and the new clams. Can’t wait to go now. Within a week or so from the time I get the bait in.
Hi hey Skipper i have question about a rod with a solid tip or tubular tip idk which one is better for surfcasting like u do in this video ✌🏽 maybe u could help me out. Thank you
i liked it a lot thank you skipper i have been a fan and subscriber. and live near the ocean in florida. i hope to do better at surf casting. your insights on troughs and reading the surf helps the enjoyment if not the actual catching 😐
You two have nice videos. I’m just starting out and will be surf fishing Myrtle Beach mostly off season. The audio is a little problem. When you catch a fish and hold it up, it would help if you said what kind of a fish, if it’s good eating, what bait used, the size, the legal size required and if your going to keep it and why.
I have a few questions. What is it about Sputnik weights that you like? Do they ever get stuck in the sand? Also, you talk about a high low rig and a fish finder rig. Is there an advantage of one over the other? When would you use one instead of the other? Thank you.
For beach/surf it's a long rod mated to a fast revolving spool reel with a mono mag spool brake and loaded with mono mainline and a mono shock leader. Discussing this specific tackle could fill a small book. :)
Penn Pursuit series, good reels at a $50-ish price point. Wouldn't recommend going with anything cheaper than that, you'll destroy reels pretty quick in the surf if you do.
Comment below YOUR go- to gear! What do you bring with you every time you go out fishing?
