I’ve been fishing close to 60 years and I always use rods according to the wind. Tiny rods are perfect for streams and ice, 5-7 ft rods are perfect for lakes, and 7-11 are perfect for surf fishing, including the Action, but anyone one of them can be used for any of the places mentioned. I go by the weather, all depends on the waves. It’s not whether you can catch a fish with a cheap rod and reel, just like any bicycle is good to ride, but there’s street/ road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes for a reason. It’s all about making the experience, enjoyable. I no longer buy $1K setups. Now I just want to spend time fishing, and not catching anything at all doesn’t bother me a bit. But I still get good ratio reels and good amount of bearings. I don’t like cheep reels that wobble. Heck, the most fish I’ve ever caught and the most fun was as a kid in Mozambique when all I used was a bamboo stick and string tied to the tip.
Went to Cabo this winter. Took my ice fishing rod because it fit in my cary on luggage with a bait caster reel. Very much a not ideal set up, but I was determined to catch fish from the surf. Used some bait fish a local caught with a throw net down the beach from me. Let me tell you it was a blast. Caught 2 jack crevalles, a snapper and a skip jack tuna. It was some of the funnest fishing I have ever done. The fish in the small rod was thrilling. Highly recommend.
You guys are the best. Love watching you fish!. My husband said I can't use my little rod on the beach. So, thanks for proving hem wrong. Nice going!!!🎣
I grew up in Brandon, Florida, but I will never forget my first trip to Key West. We stayed at the hotel at 0 Duval St and I fished ALL day that first day. I fished at the restaurant on the dock across from the hotel and I was catching HUGE crevalle jack, bluefish, red snapper, even some red grouper. There were HUGE tarpon swimming all in and around the boardwalk. It was alot of fun. I just wish I had brought a heavier rig with me because I only had a Quantum Snapshot reel with an Ugly Stik 6'6" medium rod with 15 lb mono. It was a real struggle getting some of those bigger fish in, but with a steel leader it wasn't too bad. I was using cut up ballyhoo. When I got back I tried using the same cut ballyhoo at the Tampa Shrimp Docks but all I caught was sailcats.
You can catch the fish…… Hook the fish….. but bringing them in is another story. But it’s a lot of fun. I’ve been planning a trip for 38 years to return to Florida. Sadly this time it’ll be only for six weeks instead of 10 years. I have a lot of 1000, 3000, 4000, 5000 reel and fly rods. Over 38 years I have not added to my equipment. I have added 8000, 10000, 3/0 rigs. But I think I will use me light equipment just because it is fun.
Yeah, as a fisherman myself. That looks like an interesting idea. I personally would use say an 8 to 10 foot rod, with a 2 ounce weight, and 20 pound test. But I'm odd that way. When I fished the piers of Southern California. I used 40 pound test and steel leaders, most of the time. Its been a long time since I surf fished. I miss it. But now I live so far from an ocean. And my favorite lake is starting to freeze up. Any ways, tight lines and have fun.
I love ultralight fishing! Been slaying 20-24” stripers on an ultralight BFS old 18 suppressor rod. Super light and strong! Best part I can throw smaller lures than anyone else and always get bites with smaller BFS presentations
Awesome! If you found this helpful you gotta check out my website, I custom make a ton of gear to help you with your next fishing trip! www.heyskipperfishing.com 😁
Hey dude, I really appreciate you. You got me into fishing a lot. It’s going to be way more outside do more things. I’m not as lazy anymore. I really appreciate it.😊😊😊
If you drop down to a 1oz weight you can probably cast a little further with those little rods. 2-1/2oz is way too big for those little whips. Maybe not THAT small, but when I go surf fishing I always have a small rod rigged with small hooks, to catch bait. Sometimes the little pole yields a nice surprise, like a flounder or something, or a trout or even a pompano. I keep the bait on the bait rig too small to interest the big reds and stuff. You probably don't want to hook up with a 30lb Redfish on one of those little rods, he will just drag your entire 80 yards of line with him to Cuba. Small tackle has filled many a cooler of whiting for me at the beach, too. Very tasty fish. You miss a lot of whiting and trout bites on big gear. I ALWAYS have a big rod with big bait, but I also almost always have a smaller rod with smaller bait, at the beach. If I am borrowing surrogate grandkids, I always stop at walmart for spincast rigs that size. They are cheap enough to just let the kids take them home with them. Meanwhile they can have a ball catching your bait for you. A 10 inch sand trout feels like Moby Dick to a 5 year old with a 3 foot fishing pole.
Please make more fishing videos with aunty Kim I miss her she is one of the best fishing angler 👍🎣💛 I love ugly stick rods 🎣 what soft plastic and hard baits do you recommend for halibut fish
You need a small trailer with fat tires to pull behind your bike. I built a nice trailer to haul my fishing gear. Works great, and I made protective tubes from PVC pipe, to put the rods in. One day I will make it down your way to fish.
Great fun. You guys are so lucky to have s many species fish living in your oceans. In Europe most of the seas are so heavily fished that fishing from the beach often send you home with nothing. Keep well and keep having fun.
Amazing video, just love his enthusiasm and passion. Would be great to stand next to him and show him how to cast. Over the shoulder not sideways. 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock and follow through for more distance.
Also, my first saltwater fish that I caught after moving to Florida was a 2' long ladyfish that I caught on a topwater torpedo with a bullet weight tied to the front.
I have one of these and honestly have caught most of my fish on or the last few years because it’s always in the car. Some have been pb’s. So much fun! Everything feels like a monster
I love your " sure catch" rig holder spool!!! Could you please explain how it works and how you load it? .,...if you have already made a video of it could you please share or repost? Absolutely love your videos! They are informative and entertaining!

With my youngest (5 yo now) we use his "dock demon" at the beach and he loves it. Though I've learned to leave his in the shallower surf and not out further. Lots of cool catches closer like hermit crabs.

The dock runner by Uglystik is by far my favorite rod for fishing. It caught more fish then any or my other ones. Now I got the GX2 4’9” heavy just a bigger version of the dock runner.
I knew you guys would eventually move to Florida given the fishing down there. The canal system in Miami area are incredible, lots of sneak head and peacock bass, they are incredibly aggressive and beautiful fish to look at, not to mention edible. Must people don't know that because it isn't fancy. Look it up. You're gonna have a blast there
Is this in Jacksonville, Florida?? You mentioned having caught those shrimp at the St. John’s river! I’m right down the road if that’s the case! Cheers! 3:12

As a kid all I had was a cane pole, some twine, and maybe two hooks at a time, made some out of barbwire. Caught catfish galore.
She got magic hands ,I love the fact that y’all eat what people think of as bait while educating us in the whole process. Be safe and blessed
Haha yes she does!
My favorite style of fishing is ultralight at the surf. Been doing it 2 years and will not ever stop.
Me tooooo! 🎣
Can’t go back, it’s too fun!
@@HeySkipper dude work it in more to vids, I always have 3 runt rods going from the surf.
Just goes to show that you don't need all that expensive equipment to catch fish , love it
Exactly!!
I think she definitely stole the show. You guys look like you're having a great time. Keep it up
she is too hot tho

Thank you so much! Show him this vid haha!
The reel will be ruined after 1 trip. The saltwater and sand will get in making it unusable
So we just gonna ignore that “that is a pretty fat cat” statement 😂
Catching fish with small rods is so much fun. Great video 😃😃
Hey Skipper! This has gotta be my favorite video of yours so far. You guys looked like you were having soooo much fun!

It’s so fun to catch one on a dock demon!

When you have to rush to get a fish on shore before the sharks get to it, that is a huge banner of a flag that says stay out of the water to me.
