Not sure about all these Chris reaction comments. Those of us who have been subs for many years understand Chris and my take on this one was he showed genuine interest in the bike and got hands on with the tricky bits. Rob delivered a great result for the team so what’s not to like?
Totally agree mate it’s not his bag but he just got on with it
Well it ain't no lawn mower is it ! 😂
What?? Chris 'reaction' comments? l didn't see much negative comms or an unusual 'reaction' from him.
Apologies to most good women. But a high maintenance Horror Bag has done that poor bloke over. Look at the result. It's probably cost him his mind and all his nice stuff.
Like the fact your very upfront on costs and profits. Always quality work from you both, shame about the other salvage bodgers on here, not you two. Keep it up.
Moral of the story? Never, ever let your next ex-wife have access to the keys of your pride & joy toy :)
agreed bruvver
Never a truer word said 👍
I rode motorcycles for a living for 10 years, yes, they can be dangerous, but most collisions are not the fault of the rider, just lost a friend who has someone turn in front of him. It’s not if you’re going to crash! It’s when and I’ve had my share. Whoever buys it ride safely and take proper riding safety courses too. Nice ride
Straight talking, no silly music, informative and interesting. Subbed.👍
I’m not even a bike man, I love my cars, but I thoroughly enjoyed this… and fair play for not taking the mick and listing it for an extortionate price like most people are doing nowadays…
There is just one thing I would strongly advise before the bike is returned to the road. Replace the tyres, they are bound to be dried out and unless the bike sat on paddock stands may well have flat spots. Some years ago I stored a beautiful Buell for a friend, it sat in my garage for two years. I periodically turned the engine over and kept the battery topped up. My friend eve😂ntually collected it wearing his matching leathers and Buell helmet. On the way home it rained, a car pulled out in front of him, he hit the brakes, the bike went over. He wasn't hurt but the cost of the damage to bodywork and riding gear was a lot more than the cost of your Ducati! Tyres are cheap, relatively speaking!
What a noise, sent shivers down my spine and the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. Reminds me of when my younger son raced a KTM RC8. Beautiful
Would definitely get the belts done. Having owned Ducati's this is essential without history
When Rob starts explaining to Chris as the bike is sitting on the ground every reaction from Chris was like it was me explaining 2 my old man
Thanks again chaps.
The most vital service item on a Ducati desmo twin is the cam belts. They perish within 2 years. It's the first thing you'd do on a 2nd hand Duke with no service history, it's a commonly deferred service item due to the labour cost involved and it's borderline specialist work as there is some factory tooling required. The desmo valve timing is complex so it's tricky and you cant get it wrong or it's a catastrophe. You need to assume this bike's belts are potentially 4 years old. Bear this in mind and be delicate with it until the new owner gets it done. Chris could absolutely change them, he'll need to make up a couple of cam locks to suit but there are some great videos on RUclips and tooling plans online. Only use a genuine Ducati belt kit. The price is great lads but the grand off the going rate value would get spent on just this big service bill for the next owner. Expect to meet this objection with a clued up haggler during the sale. Gorgeous bike for sure, the Ohlins kit needs refreshed every couple of years too during the hefty service on an Evo model. They do cost a bit to run but then quality comes with a price on a high end Italian machine.
The chap bought it in 21 from a shop and it had a full service before he bought it and I have a copy of that service on the way 👍
Too true, the belts are a must and must be genuine
@@sruk that's awesome news and info. That paperwork is worth it's weight in gold for this bike, it puts you back bang on the right money. Lucky! I'd still be changing those belts within a year if I bought it, even though it's barely turned a wheel since the last set went on. They do crack and split as they age even sitting still. That's just Ducati life!
The key guy absolutely saved the day on this bike, a dealership fix would have been silly money and time and headaches with the docs, also parts you didn't need that your man cleverly reworked... a main dealer would have pushed for a new instrument cluster unit and full lock and key set. I think that guy saved you nearly 2 grand!
Everything in the motor trade is a punt to a degree so unless you gamble you will never make a penny hats off Rob / Chris keep following the nose you've done well so far
Like the voiceover explanations over the timelapse sections.
Hello Rob and Chris, a very nice looking bike that will be snapped up. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
I know i keep saying it, but the voice overs during time lapse is great. Rob picks out all the bits that matter and it just reeks of quality video.
Glad my son could help you out with transportation and thanks for sharing his details. Lovely bike, and you got yourself a steal, even though it was a bit of a risk. I used to deal in bikes many years ago and have had bikes myself for 50 years, but now as you can see I am disabled and can no longer ride bikes, although I have kept a few just in case. Stay lucky, and all the best from Jem's dad.
The 848 Evo is a lovely bike I've got a 2012 plus I have a Streetfighter 1098 2009 these bikes are the best trust me!
Change the barrel, battery then re Sinc the dash with the new key.. and start her up, the Evo is a really hot 🔥 bike I love everything about the 848 it's a head turner and it flies if you dare
Riding a Ducati is totally different from any other bike, a Ducati will remind you when you screw up. You have a lovely bike good luck all will be ok. 🙂👍🇬🇧
As a biker I really enjoyed this, and that is a proper weapon. I know it was a gamble but 3k was a real result. More bikes please chaps
I have a 1198s (similar year) if you play with left toggle button on left grip it cycles through menus etc. Great video as always
Really beautiful lines on this bike looks like its doing 200 mph standing still .such an agressive looking front . absolutely love it ❤
They are absolutely stunning to look at
The founder of Jaguar cars said something similar. He said he wants Jaguars to look like they are going fast when staionary (or something like that)
Beautiful Ducati. Of all the amazing desmo L twins this is my favourite. Great work and hats off to you for keeping these masterpieces alive.
Do not run it until you change the belts. , they have a max life of 2yrs.
Something special about a Ducati. Buddy of mine used to own Ducati Dublin here in Ireland and I loved looking around them. I’m not a bike guy but really enjoyed that video. Nice result fellas
Had one of those, brilliant bike, I had to sell it when my hands found leaning on the bars to painful. Now have a 1200 gs
That sounded so sketchy Rob, really glad it worked out and it's actually great to see two chaps who are honest and good on their word (the seller and the recovery driver) gave me a little faith in humanity this morning, cheers!
Postal orders have to be paid in cash because they could be cashed before the card payment clears. There is a fee for the service, some of which goes to the post office branch and most of it goes to post office central for providing the system etc.
That’s good to know - i have to pay for trade plates via cheque, and I’m not even sure if when my cheque book runs out if they will even want to send me a replacement, so good to know why they only take cash 👍🏼
2011 Ducati 848 Evo B, we can source 2TORQ, Aliant, Yuasa, Shido and Landport batteries for those(along with all the tyres, chains, sprockets, bearings, crash protection, plugs, air and oil filters, rectifiers, timing belts, rectifiers, osram bulbs, jet kits, fuel filters, seals) 👍
I wouldn't have started it up on 2 year old fuel
Loved this video, as a retired biker I remember the 916 when they came out. What a beaut you got there boys, Surprised that old petrol started the bike.
Your right it was a big gamble , however if you don't take the odd gamble you don't get anywhere . Am real pleased it paid off for you both . Thanks for another interesting video looking forward to the next one .
It’s a gift lads . Somebody will be happy , more bikes please !
Little beauty, well gambled Rob did as many checks as possible but still high risk, but also high reward well done 👏
I would recommend in future not to plug the battery in before you have the cluster ETC. Any electrical for that matter. And never run a motorcycle with old Petrol.
Love how Chris goes with your passion for bikes and massive gamble. That excited but slightly nervous little face rob.
Cracking bike and great result 👍
Rob & Chris, I have bought and sold a few of these. Ducati have done a great job frightening 'would be' Ducati buyers! On sale every caller will ask 'have the belts been done' ? They are frightened of the dealer costs! I have done belts on bikes that have stood for 7 years, the belts are always still perfect, never a crack!
Just change them, it's a really simple job, not very expensive either. There is a very cheap plastic tool available to hold the cams still (ebay). I suggest you either mention the belts are old in the advert - or to stop the whiners & doubters asking time & time again just change them, the oil n filter too. There are a couple of youtube tutorials on belt changing ...........
Nice video gents. Good to see some different content. I was screaming at the TV Rob that the immobiliser ring was not near the key so glad you spotted it! Keep up the good work fellas! 👍🏻
Beautiful bike and I've hell of a gamble you took on it! I can't believe that 2 year old fuel was still OK though!!
It’s a lovely bike Rob 🏍️ a swift turnaround too, nice one.
I Tell you what guys…that was a fantastic bloody video & what a beautiful bike!!!! Incredible how you took a risk & turned it round!!!! Bravo!!
Well done Rob. I take the view that every day’s a school day, so I’m open to having more bikes on the channel.
If Rob fell in the river he would come out with a fish supper well done boys.
Great video guys, nice to mix it up with other items. Fell in love with Ducati bikes because of Foggy, that's a rear smile maker. Love it when you guys take a punt but it shows real confidence in your joint skill sets to take on this projects.
I’m not into motorcycles, but know a stunning bike when I see one! Ducati’s are something special!
An ex customer of mine was on an early Grand Designs, and hung one on the wall as a piece of art. That says it all 👍🏻
Good work guys 👏🏼
Rob, have you heard of easy outs, they have a reverse cutting thread and will remove broken machine screws etc, may be worth a look, good video 😊
Seven Brothers made me chuckle 😂! What a weapon that bike looks. Nice job! 🏍
Cracking bike the 848 risen a few of them , and a bargain at 3k and 5750 still cheap good luck guys 👍👍👍
Nice one Rob you took a chance and it payed off for you and Chris well done guy’s .
Top things to sort in mechanical terms.
1 Belts
2 Desmo Service if mileage is near 15k
3 Upgrade regulator rectifier to a mosfet and move it onto the right side of the bike.
If it hasn't been said already the Evo is higher spec than the standard bike.
Love this content Chris and Rob - excellent judgment re: purchase; and I enjoyed the engineering aspect too (drilling/tapping). Cheers
Another great all in one vid. Cheers lads.
Like the voice over the time lapse that you've started doing. Its stops me fast forwding and its interesting info
That’s a nice looking bike I do love the Ducati yeah you did take a chance, but it was a clean bike. Honestly, I’m a Biker myself, and I want to see more bikes put on this channel to be fair hopefully you can do all the Biker stuff on this channel 🙌🔥
If you speak to the previous owner Rob, just ask where they had it serviced or bought it from. Aa might be able to get copies of the missing service history stuff from them, a lovely bike and a cracking little profit 👍
good deal! Risk minimised, bought for the right price, not insignificant effort/know how put in to get it sorted, selling price more than reasonable for a quick turnaround, well done!
Definitely more bikes chaps. Love that an 848evo is back on the road well done guys.
The excitement in Rob's voice... 😁
I was looking at one of these but eneded up with a Monster 821, my wrists can't handle that position anymore! Great video, too cheap though.
Desmodromic valves on Ducatis. The cams close the valves as well open them. Dry clutch usually rattles too, but not a worry. They are a bit different mechanically.
848 has a wet clutch
Fantastic video guys, that was a great watch - thanks 👍🏍
More bikes Vicar! Yes please, & hopefully next In Salvage Rebuilds Chris, does a CBT😉
Good work with this one (as a 4 wheeled man). I'd rather ask my bank for a cheque book than hand the post office extra money. But I was born in Yorkshire!
It was great to see this all-in-one, warts and all video. You took us through from the very start, via the sad story to the end and a good end to the project for all the nail-biting stages. Well done.
You guys make a brilliant team each having his own talents. Youve got a nose for a bargain Rob and it works out for you more often than not. Keep up the fab content. Regards to you both. ❤️🏴
Absolutely brilliant video as always, thank you both very much!! What a machine!! 🏍️👌 Hope you both have a lovely weekend ☀️😎😎
Great looking bike Rob you was so excited when you got it started luck was on your side I’m so happy for you guys you and Chris make it look so early 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Hello Rob and Chris, brilliant video on this Ducati motorcycle, for the colour and carbon on it looks awesome, low mileage, you should sell that no problem with the summer coming up.
More Bikes Please!!
100 percent agree.
Lovely to see the both of u doing the odd bike now and then
I enjoyed the long one hour footage you did during the week. I wish that you could do more one hour VT as it’s enjoyable and kills part of my evening after work watching what you’re up too
Very nice, chris spot on comment rob keeping that on the national speed limit ....love to see him rag this one down the road.
Rob, well done buddy, your previous knowledge of bikes has really paid off this time. You and Chris together have got your bases nicely covered. That bike is a bargain beyond belief! 👌🏍️👍
Chris is so dry but so funny, great result and a superb piece of machinery rescued guys 👍🏻🏴
Get them cam belts changed...😂
Great vid guys ,so surprised you rob didnt keep the beast. Ducati what a machine to drive, scares me and iam not normally disrrupted with speed.Darren, Cavan Ireland.
Proper fair once again with the price guys. Nobody can knock you for being greedy, but thats why we all love this channel i suppose
A beautiful looking bike, worth the gamble I think and a nice little flip though as per normal I think you should ask a little more which would still leave some for the next owner. Can't believe they still ask for cheques and not taking cards either, just a rip off to enable them to charge more, how antiquated. As always, thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Enjoyed this video , very nice and glad it all paid off
Awesome video 👌👍Great team 👌👍 love the varieties ❤ and what a wonderful people eager to help ❤ wishing you all a great weekend💯💪🥰
✌❤🍀
Wow, it's a Ducati, it's gorgeous, so no start no problemo, just put it inside and just look at it every day, ❤ mucho bonito simplemente Hermosa motocycleta Awesome Bike Chaps. 👍 Looking forward to watching how you get on with this. Thanks for another top video. Vinny. 😊
I'd get the cambelts done as there's no history!
Very reasonable asking price. Nice work. Fortune favours the brave, as they say
You’re braver than me. Glad it paid off for you. Fortune favours the brave 👌
The smile on your face when that started classic top show and what a beast nice one bois Crack on
Echo what others have said. The obsession with service history on Ducatis is to do with the belts that need changing, even if (but especially if) it's been standing. If it runs well and you can show the belts have been changed then it'll do someone proud. More bike content please 👍
As you have said Chris this isn't a motorcycle this is a weapon when fixed up
Hello BOTH!! Well, what a different video from you both, and such a BIG risk too! Yes, you have a bit of class with this motorcycle, which is as good as it gets for build and model. Be good for another "motorcycle" video some time in the future, if you can?? I am sure you will have no problem selling this motorcycle on at all. You are both just so generous to everyone that you trade with - great example to everyone. Best wishes from Lincolnshire
Very nice beast. I would not risk a trip on it though! Have confidence in yourself Rob, you only get it wrong sometimes.
I’d drop another 24 quid for a day out on the sidewalls. Those tires scream lay me down to the foot peg and hit the throttle. Beautiful Bike You have the best community here Thanks
Great video, Why not take the new V5, when it arrives and your ID to Ducati and just order replacement key ? pre cut and programmed to the bike,
Did you even watch😂😂
Quick turn around and see if it's running
He's got two cheap keys programmed already, why would he need an expensive third key from Ducati?
Nice to see a motorcycle on your channel, really enjoyed it i hope you can make it a regular thing in the future guys.
Iv had 3 ducatis 748 749 and 996 loved them that's great price lads
My son has just bought one, he loves it.
I ran an enhanced hpi gold check when helping my Dad buy what seemed like a 100% genuine cbr 600 f4i with low miles log book in the guys name at the address we were looking at it etc seen his id to prove it etc as well. No stolen or theft records on any of the enhanced checks etc. Police turned up 3 months later recovered the bike and it was stolen in 2011 in bournemouth. The police failed to update the database externally and it wasnt insured when stolen so never shows on that database either. Such a shame as a lovely low mileage bike.
Great story and bike. My Son had same bike, they are fast. 👍👍👍👍👍
That body work is simple to fix with a bit of plastic welding. I’ve done loads and they come nice.
Brilliant more bikes please love it loving the bikes guys we’ll done nice to have somthing diffrent to watch than just the cars 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
A computer record of the history should be available from Ducati if it was main dealer serviced?! well worth checking with Ducati!.
Poor Chris , he must wake up some nights thinking what the fink has he bought now 😁
I'm not a biker, but it looks a lovely motorcycle. Nice job.
Seven Brothers🤣🤣🤣
"She threw away the keys" - I've heard of that sort of thing before!
Illegal number plate.
Extremely low mileage because those bikes are so damned uncomfortable - my wrists were aching just looking at the thing!
It actually needs a full service an cam belts an tyres to be spot on, ive had 167 mph out it
Always good to see a bike on the channel it's the Variety that makes you come back Everytime 👍
