6T40 Solenoid - What they don't want you to know! Plus trying out our new service pit!

  • If you build it they will come! Lol Days after completing our service pit we got a transmission failure on our GMC Terrain. See how our pit worked. We found out why all the reviews for the 6t40 6t45 solenoids are terrible. Should you just replace your tcm or tecm? Should you just take it to a transmission shop?

      To let you guys know, if this tranny has fairly clean fluid, the fix for alot of these units is just to use a good scanner and run it through the relearn program. I've fixed several of these trannys by doing that. Same with the Ford units... 6f35

    Hello man. I have an Opel/Vauxhall Astra J - P10/2011 - 1.6L A16XER Petrol with 6T40 MH8 Gen. 3 gearbox mounted on it. I decided to replace it with a spare one. The one I've bought looks the same, connects the same, but it's 6T30 MH9 Gen. 3. It was bolted down from the same car, same specs but year 2013. Do you think it will work if i just replace it ? Or chances are that will need relearn of the ecu with the TEHCM. Many thanks !

    • @ThinkBuildTest
      @ThinkBuildTest  Год назад

      Also sounds like a solenoid but maybe the symptom of too much metal shavings causing failure. That age of a vehicle probably has 200+ thousand miles. Everything wears out. Cheap fixes are probably temporary fixes. I don't know this model personally but that is a fare assessment of any 22 year old vehicle. I am going to keep investing in my old vehicle so a transmission rebuild for 3000 was worth it. I will rebuild the engine when it needs it because the interior is still really nice. If I had a ton of issues I would have sold it for parts.

  • @johnriley7053
    @johnriley7053 9 месяцев назад +1

    You probably have a broke 3-5-R wavy plate... which ate up the aluminum drum. Mines severely worn but hasn't broke yet. Also, anyone with HP Tuners MPVI adapter can program (marry realy) a different TCM to the ECM.

    • @stevegriffith7236
      @stevegriffith7236 2 месяца назад

      They make a drum saver kit for that. The waved plate no longer has internal splines. It now sits inside a thick steel with the splines on the steel now engage with the 456 drum.

    • @ThinkBuildTest
      @ThinkBuildTest  2 месяца назад

      There are other transmissions there are definitely solenoids for. But look online and shop for these on a 2011 terrain 2.4. Read the reviews. Most have someone talking about the rings having wear marks. They are repacking used parts and selling them as new on ebay and amazon. GM only sells the tcm as a whole. 600 dollars. Plus. You should be able to buy them individual but I can't find them. All my local transmission shops sell the full tcm only.

      200k miles on car all the shavings that can clog a new 800 dollar module +300 for the tune. If I had less than 100k miles I would probably do just the module swap. These transmissions have no filter you can change so they are particularly dirty. 3000 and now I can go another 200k miles. I may have only got 5k miles and had to rebuild the transmission anyways that would have been a waste.
