DIY Creators Awesome 😎👍🏻 ... 👏🏻
How much did it cost overall?
Awesome! Now just need a Lift Desk Riser.
Next project!
This is a great project, but The only thing I would have done differently was, rather than screwing in the bottom where the power cords are, I would have put a hing in place for better accessibility and possibly hidden storage.
I love the "where I am at" feature!
Thank you
I came down to the comments just to say the same thing. Genius!
One of those things you see, and then always wonder why everyone else doesn't do it.
i didn't even see it.
Ditto! Beat me to the chase!
I love the "Where Im At" diagram at the top right of each step!
Thank you
yessss love it
Thought you were a madman for a floating marble desk when I saw the thumbnail. You certainly fooled me- it looks good!
Haha, Thanks
I was fooled too! now I have this smart project for my next desk setup, when I will have some spare time I will give it a try
yeah that would have been really heavy for the studs to support
You know what makes this a great video? You show the mistakes and challenges that you ran into and then how you overcame them.
Thank you for the video!
DIY? All I have is a screwdriver in my house :P
farhadtarapore you can just get a set of ryobi tools or craftsman and you can make some pretty good stuff
Don’t even have a screwdriver at my house lawl
I have a screw driver but its tip is round😐
Do it your own🤦♂️
Me too, but mine is made of vodka and orange juice.
I appreciate how you didn't edit out your mistakes and included "How I would do it different next time". I'm most definitely going to be using this as a starting point for my desk. Thanks for putting this out here.
The wireless charging a good idea. I might try that on my coffee table and nightstand in the bedroom
Thank you, Yes it is 😀
This is definitely not DIY, this looks professional...
Edit: This is definitely not DIY for the common person, this is something professionals do. DIY for professionals, LOL. This edit is for the comment warriors with low humour and high sentiments to prove others wrong.
And all these tools.
Well, that's what happens when a professional does stuff for himself. Technically still DIY.
This is DIY for professionals. LoL!!!
A true DIY knows that even stuff that look professional or very complicated can be modified in the process to make it more simple to do. This build can be completely done with just a drill, a circular saw, a jigsaw and normal materials like screws, wood, sandpaper, etc. The laminate can be omitted and simply paint it or apply white wood stain, two coats and then wipe on polyurethane.
@@jellyg.8961 Sure, but I'd say that 'that would be correct DIY'. Not everyone seems to have those high-end tools.
The ‘Where I’m At’ visual is genius!
Don't see enough brothers doing this kind of innovative work on RUclips. Great job and easy to follow explanations. Thanks
You've really stepped up the professional look you have in this video. The "where I'm at" feature is unique and really beneficial to the viewer and your in-video advertisement doesn't seem tedious or forceful. Really well done
Thanks, George, I appreciate the feedback. I'm working on getting better.
Doesn't seem to take a whole lot of work.
Pretty awesome.
I love the fact that you are man enough to admit parts you did wrong or would do differently.
Desk looks really stylish.
Your house must be beautiful
I was about to say that
I think the same! He should make a video showing his house haha
karina truuue 😂 good designer
Indian middle families can just dream of dream desk
i thought this too :))) his house's gotta have sick interiors cuz he made them all
This project would take me 5 years to complete :o/
Dude, I want to thank you for providing the "Where I'm at" diagram so we can follow your train of thought. It really helps me to collect what you're doing in relation to how you are getting there. Excellent work -- as always.
You do some the best woodworking videos I've ever seen. You keep it moving at a good pace, and your not afraid to show your mistakes, and more importantly, how you recover from them. You seem to have a good idea of what you're going to do, but you improvise as you build. Reminds me of Adam Savage. I pick up so many great tips and ideas watching you. Thanks!
I don't know what to say... you impress the absolutely hell out of me. You're innovative and approachable. Your whole channel makes you seem like the type of guy that would the type of person you want to be friends with while you work through projects. You've marketed yourself really well man. I'll be your fan for the foreseeable future.
You said every word just right. That’s exactly how I feel.
All of your projects are amazing! I get envy and the feeling of awe every project you post.
Thank you 😀
Hy
Bro youre definitely “THE MAN!”
I like how he doesn't pretend he never makes a mistake. Every man/woman who has done work like this has done something the wrong way. The important thing is CATCHING your mistake and learning from it (as he did every time.)
i personally want to meet someone who could do some shelving for me like how this guy does. Awesome, power tools are very helpful.
This is a beautiful project. I love how you provide feedback for yourself and learn from these projects during the editing process. Great content!
Excellent project, well done. I like you're including your near misses on some issues, makes me feel like I'm not the only one. For your next dream desk, instead of the vinyl, I'd like to see some sort of formica or similar surface treatment, or maybe use a premade countertop narrowed down (front to back) with a bullnose front edge. Again, excellent project!
That was EXACTLY what I was thinking throughout the entire video!
I don't understand why people would dislike your videos man, it's just your work, there's nothing to hate
I think the best way to learning is by making mistakes. That way you know not to make the same mistake again. That's why they say practice makes perfect. But I can honestly say I've never seen a video where someone called out their own mistakes. That tells a lot. Even if he messed up a bunch, his work speaks for itself.
Working in the electrical and a/v field, products are constantly changing with the technology and I still learn new things on the job everyday.
Thanks for sharing about the heat gun, but here's a hint... If you are worried about the intensity of a heat gun, try a blow dryer for hair. The multiple temperature settings allow you to switch back and forth to increase or decrease the temperature. I only switch to a heat gun if I find the blow dryer not hot enough. 💜🌞🌵
Anytime, The heat gun I have do have adjustable heat settings.
I'm never gonna do this but I'm still watching ...:) amazing I really need one in my house.
true
The finished look is spectacular, the back lighting using LED strips was a nice touch, and the USB ports and outlets are always useful.
This project had a lot going on as far as planning, tools and execution.
I like the way he makes mistakes and corrects them along the way, he doesn't edit them out of his video.
I would prefer the cupholder mounted in right rear of the desk for to maximize space, but that is my opinion, plus he asked what we would have done differently.
I only wish I could find the time to do a project similar to this in the future.
The magnetic picture/poster wall hanging system is a interesting and cool idea, thanks for sharing.
OVER 5M views and 2.85M subscribers.. WOW congrats my friend !!
I respect the fact that you even tell us if you made a mistake.
I'm sure you've heard this 20 times already but depending on space restrictions, I'd try to make it slide inside the wall and when it's inside, the outside trim could be artwork so to blend in and conceal the desk better. Would be a great idea for one of those tiny homes people are building these days.
Wow. I'm impressed by the quality of your work. Not just with the wood, also with the edition of the video. Your audio and video seem to be taken from an H&h
I feel inspired by your work!
looks amazing but i somehow get this feeling that it may become little weak with time specially on resting your hands or keeping something little over 5kgs on it.
I feel like by now the wall studs would be hanging on the edges, and I probably had stuffed Polyfilla in to try and fix it. Seems realistic for a laptop and a coffee but not anything heavier - or resting your arms on it for prolonged time.
@@kuzeno6637 I don't know if i can agree with that statement being that at 13:30 you can see the desk tilt downwards as he lays his arm back on it.
@@extrakronik6954 what are you talking about?
yeah, too weak
How about it's still in use today. The teen kid does makeup and homework on it. It's still holding up just fine.
I love his accent it’s like southern but almost Caribbean lol
That 'french cleat' idea just blew my mind. I was going to use large shelving brackets for my build, but this idea is much better. Thanks.
Love it. What I would love, is if it could be folded down (or up) when not in use, reclaiming floor space when folded. That would make it perfect for me.
if youre using it as a desk tho wouldnt you have to remove everything on it every time you want to fold it? that’d get annoying
Wow if u had the time you really should sell these, U would make a killing! You're very talented and creative, thank you for sharing.
Wonderful
The satisfaction I feel while watching this ❤️
Thank you for this post. I’m actually going to start this exact design tomorrow but I’m doing 3 of them on one wall for 3 computers. I’m going to paint and stain instead of vinyl. Wish me luck.
do you ever manage to finish them? howd they turn out?
brother we need answers
How'd it go??
;o
I bet you failed. Thats why you are not responding
There's nothing more satisfying than spending the day making something. Of course you ending up swearing a lot, scratching your head trying to figure something out, asking 'why tf did i do that?', and losing items you though you put down somewhere specific - but at the end of the day you look at it and it makes all the headaches disappear! Every news project increases your skill set. I've only made about 5 items but the things I've learned just from those is quite a lot!
Thanks for the idea. I will definitely do something similar in my bedroom. I will add more support in case somebody lost balance and tried to sit on the desk. I will probably stay away from the french cleat and use two iron brackets instead. You just mentioned two brackets at the end of the video - we are on the same page then :). Great job!
Those wall brackets are quite small, curious to see how it's still holding up. I would have suggested some longer and thicker ones.
Its suppose to look like its floating. Adding big l brackets defeats the purpose...
This is way cool. I’m curious to know the weight capacity of the desk though... if a large adult were to lean heavily on it, would it hold without L-brackets?
Also, i would really like to see you do a corner, L-shaped floating desk - if you haven’t already 🙌
That wouldn't be a good idea as it might cause a tiny bend over time. I've used the brackets he showed in the video and they're definitely only good enough to keep average items in check.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome Job!! I've been watching your videos all morning and I'm obsessed! Really inspiring! Makes me want to get into wood working!
Really Inspiring. I agree.
hey, i'm an auto body guy, if we get wrinkles in vynal decals and the such, we warm it with the heat gun and try to peal it back, if dose'nt want to happen, we poke a tiny hole with an exacto knife or razor, and work the bubble out toward the hole with a plastic spreader
Wow I love your work like crazy I wish am your apprentice I have 15 yrs of experience on electrical painting n woodwork
The attention to detail in this is amazing!👏🏾
My DIY means get a 4x4 block of wood .. stick it on the wall and hope the load won’t make it collapse 🤨
The whole time I watched this video, that is all I wondered. Why can't I just get a piece of wood and stick it to the wall? 😂 Sad part? I have the tools for the job, but zero desire to go through all those steps. I'd just sit a pretty little coaster on there for my cup and keep it moving 😂
Great work! I really appreciate that you don't edit out all the mistakes or challenges! It's so easy to only show us what perfection looks like bug not show what reality looks like!
Love the table. Displate magnets tend to fall of the wall and the plates can damage thing while falling down so I suggest securing magnets with some additional method. I bought some strong sticky picture holders and applied them to the backs of the magnets.
Wow.. this isn't DIY. This is engineering and design coming together. Great work!
Hi Mr. DIY, love your channel. Especially the way you present it, nice to listen to and understand, even little mistakes you made, you just say how you undo and make plans. Thanks a lot. :-)
As a cat owner, that cupholder is clutch on a desk, especially with electronics nearby.
Average Floridian every cat owner needs all the cup holders.
This is beautiful. And you are totally right about cupholders and spills!
People here saying this isn’t DIY. But a real DIY person is resourceful enough to know this can be done with much cheaper tools and in a pretty small garage or driveway. Shit I built bigger casework in my back yard.
That little "Where i'm at" picture was actually a really good idea to figure out what you were doing
Some other ways to disguise the cord would be... Use a white cord instead of black cord or what about painting the cord with matching acrylic wall paint. The acrylic shouldn't affect the wire's insulation. 💜🌞🌵

This is an amazing project and video! I used that same marble style contact paper on the counters in my kitchen. I learned a great tip before I did it from another RUclips video. Spray the adhesive side lightly with Windex before applying it. This will allow you to move it around before it dries and get those bubbles out much easier. Thanks for all the great videos and ideas!! :)
I use windex when I fap for lubrication purposes
Your tool game is the envy of the internet! Love your ideas.
People complaining "This is not DIY"...It is because he DID do it himself. Doesn't mean he expects you to do the same.
This is such a good idea! I need to attempt this with my dad for my small room.
😅 hey, did u ever get to doing this project? If not... Did you want to float the idea again?
to me what would make it perfect was to add the elememt of being a murphy desk mouting desk with a hinges so it could be folded away
yup!
Love that cup holder Glen!
Thank you :D
Looks beautiful. How much weight does it hold safely?
I like that he admits his mistakes and lets you know what to modify
Genius .... you are genius
Thank you 😀
I was looking for solid surface floating desk when I stumbled upon your video. In the beginning of it,your desk really looked like it was made out of Corian. Anyways it looked really beautiful. Nice Job Very Well Don.
If u foot time to check the link in his comment_ there was an added badass idea pertaining that floating desk build...
Not a developers desk obviously.
It would turn into pieces after hours of debugging :P
So true!
🤣🤣🤣
+1 dude
Interesting. I don't want to brag, but I've never had a bug. What do they look....

That intro though 👌
I like how you keep your goofs in the video and show how you overcome. You do the same thing in your recent desk video from May. Thanks for keeping it real!
I like how you include your little mistakes. It makes me not feel as bad.
I'm still dreaming of that table.
it would be cool if you could add speakers to the desk

Nice video! I actually appreciate the honesty in the video. Not many people do that. What is the overall weight of the "desk"?
Greatly appreciate the "Where I'm At" notices, help me see what you are doing!!
very nice build , my only addition would have been is to put 2 cup boards underneath the desk as that would provide space to keep things. but excellent build anyways.
Amazing work!! You inspired me to make a wall Mounted tv self similar to your table 👌🏼
Wow! 😮😍 So beautiful! 👌🏾

Hi, the first impression was, that is a texture of acrylic paint or something like that...but when got to know vinyl, that's even more easier. Just curious to know if you have tried acrylic paint in any of your projects?
Acrylic paints can be great for kids projects too, because there is blackboard/whiteboard paint that really adds to easyl functionality, can be great as life chart backboard attatched to a desk (whiteboard_dry erase,) and dry-erase tabletop for quick_note/quick_calculations for less paper use or app window confusion
But if you do explore vinyl... Two overlapping layers is maximum for secure_and use the heat gun to smooth edges
Bloody amazing. Could you make the same desk for me and send it to me?
You're very talented.
I am considering using this design for a floating vanity in a bathroom.
