After watching Marks video, over a year ago, I bought my 2010 XJ (X351) LWB, 3.0L portfolio, and I am so happy with my fantastic car. It is simply the best car I have ever driven. A point to note, on a car of this age, only ever go to a Jaguar dealership for fixed price servicing, which is reasonable in cost and available for cars over three years old! For all other jobs like replacing the timing belt, go to a Jaguar Specialist, there are plenty around, and most will charge half of what a dealership charges, saving £ hundreds. Incidentally, this is what Jaguar say about replacing belts on XF or XJ 3.0L D engines: Replace timing belt every 112,000 miles or 10 years. Replace high-pressure fuel pump drive belt every 144,000 miles or 9 years.
Nice video my friend. A good walkaround the car and I'm looking at getting either a Portfolio or Supersport this year. The Supersport (probably due to insurance and tax) depreciates like a bomb which is great as a 2nd hand buy. As long as you can live with the costs and petrol consumption. Anyway, some bits of information people may like to know as I've been searching around on forums and second hand guides. The sunroof issue existed on the cars up until it was fixed properly on the 2013 models. Like you say it's the frame moving in the chassis and it creaks. Most were fixed by dealers under warranty under great expense using rubber mounts and other fixes. Next issue, the sunroof rails on the earlier cars rot badly. The roof slides across a steel rail, as the paint wears away the bare metal is exposed and it can rust. So check this on any XJ you inspect. Again it was addressed on the 2013 cars, otherwise you'll see on some early cars they have nylon strips over the rails and they have been repainted underneath. In some extreme cases the entire mechanism is replaced which is a huge job (the entire roof section has to be removed), costing thousands. I hope nobody ever silicone's them shut though, that would look awful, I would rather properly lubricate them once or twice a year as part of maintenance. The next biggest issue on the earlier cars are the buttons. Not an issue unique to Jaguar as others have suffered in the past as well. The buttons on the 1st gen cars have a subtle rubberised finish on them. Unfortunately this rots and peels away. Covering the buttons in a sticky mess. Like the sunroof mechanism most of the cars had all their switchgear replaced under warranty by angry owners. Again all sorted by the time the 2013 cars were released. As you mention the first generation cars had a slowish display but having seen you use it, I can live with that. Some owners replaced it with the 2013 model but due to the way the display and software work some functions are lost, so I would prefer just to stick with the original. The last point which I hope none of us have to deal with is the bodywork. Aluminium is not the easiest metal to work with and in most cases any small ding in the body panel requires a new panel to be fitted and blended in, aluminium is brittle and doesn't bend back easily. Which means big bodywork bills and high insurance. However any aluminium bodied car suffers from this. You tend to see quite a few CAT D cars for sale because I think the insurance companies would rather right the car off rather than pay the enormous expense to repair them. I know this all sounds horrible but in fairness looking at all the various forums the modern XJ is a very reliable car. Very few electrical issues and cars with 150,000 miles on them are still going strong. A final point about the wheel nuts. I've always believed that using air tools on wheel nuts is just crazy. They are too powerful and obviously are used for quickness. I've lost count of the number of times friends of mine had sheered nuts on their cars simply because they were done up so damn tight by the tyre centre or car dealer. So whenever I get new tyres now I always borrow the 2nd car and take the wheels in the back of the car, just a personal opinion of course but I do like to be able to take my wheels off occasionally! lol. I've been to the Jaguar factory when they were making the older XJ and XK cars and even they finish the wheel nuts off with a torque wrench not high powered air tool. Anyway, rant over. Nice video and glad you enjoy your XJ Portfolio.
wow that was a good comment packed full of advice thanks bud, you do know your stuff as for me I'm loving my car and will sort out the few bit but smile every day I drive it take care
@@marksavage No problem my friend. Just information I've picked up whilst searching around. Like a lot of cars though sometimes it's always best to get the newest you can afford. All cars suffer from new model niggles. Sometimes it takes a 2nd gen facelift by the maker to cure the problems permanently. The XJ is pretty well sorted, but that sunroof creaking is most likely the one thing that will drive pre-2013 owners the most crazy. I'm assuming you buy your six tubs of vaseline online to avoid any strange looks in Boots...haha :) Glad you enjoy the car. Really nice example.
@@andrewharper4296 haha no I don't mind the strange looks in boots and the pile cream pmsl, if I had a extra £10k I would of got a newer one however in a few years I will stick with the xj and upgrade to a newer one then take care bad
@@marksavage Yeah for sure. My budget only reaches the 1st gen cars as well which is fine. On the whole they are well looked after which is the important thing. Take care matey.
Mark, thanks for the review. I own a 10 plate which I picked up in 2014 with 20k miles on the clock and its an absolute delight to drive. The only thing I feel I should highlight is the fact that if you are not going to use it often, invest in a Ctek battery charger because you will be needing it as the battery drains quickly. Alternatively you can also turn off the light settings / mirror etc from automatic to manual as this saves battery power. :)
Now that is great advice and true as I had to buy a new battery after leaving it for two weeks and it was completely dead grrrrr Otherwise yes great cars Thanks for watching
Nice car! I think it's dynamic mode that turns the dials red. This button is a chequered flag near the handbrake. If I'm not mistaken. I'll be saving to buy one of these next year. I've done plenty of research and may end up being one of the youngest owners at 25 👍 But personally I think they've lost the old man stigma
It took me a year to find one that I wanted. I opted for the Portfolio LWB model 3litre diesel. it can be a bugger to find a parking space but well worth it. A truly awesome car.
I like how when you lock the car, the side mirrors fold in. That's pretty neat. What! Really! A park, drive and reverse turn switch. That's so high tech.
I love theese cars, real showstoppers, my first matchbox was an XJ6. :) I usually use my cars 10 years or so. Considering the possible maintenance costs of this at the age of 10-15 years, I'll stay away from this and buy an old fashioned 4.2 XF. Brute force, interior and exterior design to die for, less complicated, good reputation. Less luxury, less amount of toys, but I rather can think of it as a long term partner. I love the Jags! Lovely motor, I hope it'll serv you well.
I was really looking forward to seeing this, and was not disappointed. Great video mate love all the details. I would spend all day in there watching the gear selector going up and down lol. Stunning motor and the colour really complements it. There really is something very special about jags. P.s I would be tempted to do the cam belt for peace of mind, easy to say when its not my money lol. Great car and great vid thanks for sharing
Finally a review that shows the car how it really is and not just gimmicks and cool stuff. Might get one soon, just love the looks of it, really a stunner even after almost 10 years.
That's really good to hear and thanks I do try and be honest with my reviews Theres a few more on this car on my channel Life changes and am selling mine ,something I really didn't want to have to do but have enjoyed every mile drove Take care
Great video, though I have never experienced bad wheel bolts or a creaky sunroof, I did, however, have bad TPMS on 2 wheels. They corrode but Jaguar didn't cover it under warranty which was a pain. You forgot to mention they have double glazed windows, you can see when you roll them down that there are 2 bits of glass rather than 1. If you hold the race flag by the handbrake, that gives you a bit more umph and that's how you get the dials to go red, you still have all the traction control on etc. and the snowflake/winter mode turns them blue and makes it harder to accelerate.
there was a few things I forgot as the jaguar has a lot to talk about and the glass went out of my head, I had seen how to do it and again just forgot so sorry but since. other youtuders has mentioned how to get the dials red and into sports and all in it's a great car and I love thanks for watching
IF your having a problem with the slow responce to the controls on the infotainment unit try to find a unit from a 2012/2014 car easy enough to replace just plug and play only thing you lose is the little display map that appears in the dash display
You forgot the super-cool soft close doors!! BTW: the dash goes red when you press the dynamic mode button and blue when you press the snow mode button.
@@marksavage I prefer Winkleman - I should have remembered that when I had my XF. Watching your video made want an XJ now. I still love Jaguar, but only up to the 2015 XF and the XJ. The newer models are diluted to the point that they feel cheap inside - Jag better wake up and bring back that old leather, wood and metal finish we've become accustomed to in Jaguars.
Press the chequered flag button by the gear selector = Dynamic mode and the dash goes red & it turns into a beast ! Press the snowflake button dash turns blue and is great in wet/icy conditions.. really calms it down.
Wonderful car! I sincerely hope to buy a hugely depreciated XJ within 5-6 years! At the moment I own a BMW 320d MY 2019!! And I'm 30 years old!! I think I'm one of the very few young men who like big luxurious sedans like this!! Good job man! Keep it up
Just bought a 3-year out of lease XJL for just 25% of its original retail on the road price, replacing my faithful 13-year old Chrysler 300c. Without question or exception, the Jaguar is THE best car I have ever owned in my 55 years of driving, which started with a mini van!. Don't wait until you retire - like me! - before treating yourself to one of these magnificent beasts, particularly with JLR's plans to move to an electric model in future. A real head-turner, an absolute joy to drive, easy on fuel and road tax, heavy on insurance, which I knew, high on sheer luxury and I've hardly begun to explore its gadgets and gizmos. Build quality is exceptional so I fully expect the Jaguar to be driven behind my funeral! I'd be hard pushed to find anything remotely close to replacing it.
@@taurustime Great to know that!! I come from Italy, where life generally costs more, but I've already started saving money for the XJ in order to manage all costs when the time will be right! I'm really sure I won't be disappointed! And as soon as electric vehicles will have a much greater impact on the market, I'll probably consider buying what will be the new all electric XJ...... Who knows? Thanks for your testimony; it was really appreciated
Nice car and a good video. Cambelt situation they are fairly easy to do on these, tho I have seen people forgot to do the rear diesel pump belt at the back. Another thing to look out for around 70k is rocker covers cracking, it's part of the intake manifold, didn't see it on the 2.7 personally mostly on the 3.0
hi bud it had the rear oil belt done when he change the turbo so I knew about that one, never tried to do a cam belt and to be fair not going to try and do one lol so will end up paying out but will keep in mind the covers, thanks for the advice
Mark, Dash will turn red when you press the dynamic button, below and left of the gear selector, as this will stiffen up the suspension and improve throttle response, Sport gives you manual paddle changes etc .....
Top man yes another youtuber has said too , I had forgot how to do it at the time of doing the video and your right it really does improve the cars driving and performance Have to say I’m still loving the car and thanks for watching
The stereo is Bower & Wilkins. Not only do I have a set of desktop MM-1s on my PC, in a previous life I sold quality HiFi. The kind of crap you played, can be heard on any old sh#t like boss or an iPhone. Real music, needing low and mid range response is why you buy B&W. Your music choice may be pretty poor, but the review of the car has been helpful and is appreciated.
Excellent real life review. I have a 2012 XF which is brilliant however the wheel nuts snapping was something I hadn’t anticipated & this has happened on 3 of the wheels. Never thought I’d have to use a hole saw.
The dash will go blue when you press the left button below the gear dial that is winter mode and car will move off in second gear The dash will do red when you press the button on left above the park brake that is dynamic mode and suspension will stiffen so you can drive harder round corners and whatnot
Put it in Sport, Press and hold the Race Flag Button (located next to handbrake), Dashboard colour changes to angry Red, UNBELEIVEABLE performance, throttle response, gear change and handling....Love My XJ.
I really enjoyed your review especially as I own the long wheelbase Portfolio model. It is the finest car I have owned and over the years I've had many. I am not a big fan of low profile wheels but the ride is not too bad considering. I had some Alloygators fitted but they look awful so might have them removed. Thanks for the tip about Vaseline on the sunroof. I will try it but so far I have not had any noises from it just a spot of rust on the frame. My car has now reached 73000 miles and has always been main dealer serviced. However, I will now have it done at my local garage as the Jaguar dealer is 70 miles away. I was told by the dealer that the cambelt should be checked every 100,000 miles but after watching your video I will get it checked when I have it serviced next week. Many thanks.
David Russell thanks and that good to hear you enjoyed it My sunroof is nice and quite now so worth doing As for cam belt yes worth getting it looked at and changed as going by what jag said plus the forums Take care bud
@@marksavageI would never use vaseline which is a petoleum based product. Quite why these DIY myths become so acceptable is beyond me. It dries out the compound, nitrile and natural rubbers are slightly porous. These rubbers are better lubricated and replenished using a silicone based grease. This stuff can safely be applied to brake caliper seals and guide pins. It is a much better lubricant and stops rubbers seals becoming dry
As a British Lad I have fallen in love already xxx I drive an XF weekly. I have driven many top range vehicles. But Jags are very special. Nothing Germanic Phallic for me ++++
beautiful car mate, also there's a fuel pump belt at the back of the engine that's a service item around £300-£500 to replace no problem for the engine just will leave you on the side of the road, plus the wheelnuts should be changed every few years on all cars with ally wheels
The engine on my 2014 jaguar XJL died at 126K miles. (All routine and regular maintenance performed meticulously). The dealership said I could get a new engine for $25,000. I spent over $13,000 in repair and maintenance in the three years I had this car. Now I have a 4100 pound paperweight in my driveway.
Nice video and lovely car Mark, speaking from personal experience I would get that cam belt changed for piece of mind, I had one let go and a £500 job end up costing me over £3k and that wasnt a Jag engine :(
Yes they can lol not seen any rust on mine any where so far Knew about the sun roof rusty bits but luck mine rust few and a happy car Thanks for watching
I have the new 2019 one Mark Right before it got discontinued I always feel like the brakes are shaking at high speeds and the suspension is a little more on to the bouncy side. I tried to send it to service but they said everything was just fine. Did you feel the same too? I have LWB but still, it’s pretty cramped.
Similar problem when I had a Mercedes, snapped wheel lugs. When you get new tyres, INSIST that the do NOT use the air gun to remove or replace the lugs and they are set to the correct torque. If they don’t and they break, Bill the tyre company for new lugs.
To be precise, it is not the camera that turns when you have it in reverse and turn the steering wheel. It is just the lines the system projects to show where you will go.
yes that's what I meant to say, if you watch my other videos I do try and remember it all so bear with me for my little mistakes but thanks for clearing it up for others that may watch it after thanks for watching mark
No if they snapped it its the tyre house or garages fault, they are responcible for sorting that outbshould not cost you. I always copper slip my wheel nuts or graphite grease. Stops this sticking issue. It thebstickingvthat cause the fatigue and snap
Yeah I agree matey (see my comments above). They use air tools for quickness but they are very over powered and I'm not surprised they break the nuts on the hubs. I've had my mother's car come back from a service once and when I had to remove the front wheel I had to use a 2m breaker bar to undo the nuts and get the wheel off. If you were stuck in the middle of nowhere and had a flat tyre the small wrench in the boot would be useless to you. As you say proper maintenance with copper crease is also a great thing to do as well.
Lovely car and great video , as you can see from my picture i have a LWB 1995 XJ sovereign , i`ve been running it trouble free for 8 years as my everyday car , when and if i do replce it it will be for an XJ like yours
Your cluster will go red if you hold the flag button above the park brake button for a few seconds... completely changes how the car drives. Really beautiful
yes I few other youtubers have said and to be honest I did know just forgot with all the other things I had to remember while doing the video, thanks for watching bud I do have a few more on my xj worth a watch
I have one. It's an epic car. 2012. 30k miles and £21k when I got it (Dealer Approved) with 12 months warranty. Faultless. One took a hammering from potholes and needs repairing. Satnav is stupid and often thinks it's in Belgium. But still an epic car.
thanks for watching bud and agree with the sat nav but not for being in Belgium lol but a little hard with pressing the touch screen as I find I have to press a few times but they got better on the mk2 all in agree an epic car and I love driving mine
Nice motor, when these come down a bit more I’ll certainly add them to the list. These are much more me than Germans of similar age. 50mpg on a run and enough power to be useful, what’s not to like? That sunroof thing is pretty annoying though, I wonder if there are XJ’s out there with no sunroof?
Hey Mark, great review. I want to ask if you know about issues surrounding corrosion problems on sunroof runners as I’m looking to buy an XJ in next year or so. I’ve read that the 2013 models were updated and don’t have this issue? Its also important that the car is Euro 6 and bizarrely some ‘13-on are advertised as having this and others not when checked against Tfl ulez. Have you experienced many air suspension issues this has put me off in the past. I currently drive an LS400 but starting to feel its age. Thanks
You do have to check the sunroof runners and yes they did sort this out but I'd still check I'd no seen any with air bag problems but all in low mile and full service is a must I loved my jag just a great looking car all round and stands out for me from the others Well worth a drive and the money Not sure about the london driving but guessing some are the old model as it was the cross over year and the newer had the 8 speed gear box Thanks for watching bud
Psa who make the engine say 7 years if they say 7 year it means this when under simulations they have had the most failures other psa diesel can go 10 years but 2.7 and 3.0 v6 they say 8 year max or 70000 miles which ever comes soomer. Later models have increase the length due to changes in stresses and materials but this year of car no .stickmtonthe makers instructions
Looking at a 2014 3.0 diesel with 33k miles at a local jaguar dealership. Is there anything I need to be looking for or asking? Anything I should look out for?
Being a jag dealer it should all be good But as in my video worth check the sunroof rails , belts have been changed front and rear oil pump Wheel nuts as in my other video on here But all in amazing cars
Finally got a jaguar xjl from my local dealership, 2014 and got 36k miles on the clock, service is due Oct or Nov time. Any ideas what a local dealership would charge for a service?
Mark, I love the car but just about every mechanic I have spoken with in Las Vegas has told me to stay away due to electrical issues as well as others. The prices for used XJ's in America are fantastic and I hate SUV's and really would like to have the XJ but want to avoid any reliability issues. I currently have a Lexus and nothing ever goes wrong. You thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again and great video. Bill
Was seriously considering one of these, I currently have a 2010 VW phaeton and considering the cost difference between the two I can't see the advantages of the Jag other than looks. My phaeton has virtually the same spec
It does come down to your taste I love this car but if yours does the same thing and your happy stick with it bud Maybe worth a test drive to put your mind at rest
@@marksavage We just bought an XF prestige and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. I like the look of the exterior but the interior is a bit lacking. My biggest gripe is the layout of the controls on the doors. I think the window and mirror controls should be where the lock controls are and vice versa. Why put the lock control within arms reach and the window controls so far up on the door. The car automatically locks when you pull off and automatically unlocks when you open the door- it doesn't 'have to be within immediate reach. You will use the window controls more so why not put them where you don't have to reach as far on the door. Another gripe is legroom. I'm 6'1" and I have to adjust the seat all the down and all the way back in order to keep my head from hitting the ceiling. When I do that, I have nowhere to rest my arm. I'm too low and too far back to use the door's armrest. So, I will eventually wear out the center console. And finally, the navigation- it requires too many steps to put in driving directions. Just give me a text box where I can put in the directions, like Google map. Needless to say, we might be trading soon.
Nice car just like to ask if you still have in 2021?any problems with the car? Thinking to change from 7series but not sure... 🤷♂️ I really like inside ❤️quality....
Beats the bmw hands down Just go for the best spec you can , all round I loved this car but sadly things changed and I had to sell it Sadly miss it to be honest Go test drive on you will love it bud Thanks for watching
i guess due to cost and the xe is the baby of the jag family and they just like to sell the basic unless you up the spec they try and get you to buy more lol, money money money
I had non on this motor at all nor hear of any Every other ford , bmw etc As long as you put your foot down here and there it's all good Loved this car ,really did
most of the issues I have talked about were sorted by 2013 so 2015 model will be fine and all in they are great cars, as for mine I love it and enjoy driving it every time I get behind the wheel just get used to finding the right space in car parks lol but if you cared about your cars like me I did that any way thanks for watching there are a few more videos on my channel about the jag all worth a watch
Beautiful car but it really annoys me when manufacturers share parts across ranges. The interior door handles and the sun visor are directly from the X Type. A 50k car borrowing bits from an entry level model. I know its trivial but it's dissapointing. Please don't tell me the indicator stalk on this is from the Ford parts bin.
This guy is impressed by a self-closing trunk? That must be the reason he has the luxury-spec Portfolio in the short-wheelbase version. Since the beginning, XJ sedans have traded rear-seat comfort for slightly quicker handling. Fine if only two are in the car. But the Portfolio is a true executive sedan, where often the owner rides in the back. And believe me, no normal-sized adult is going to accept the cramped legroom. So be aware of that fact as you assess this review. (No question, though, this generation XJ was the class of its field. The German monolith of its competitors turned out to be unstoppable even for this great car.)
I have a 13 plate Luxury model, within 2 weeks of owning it. Suspension light on and off daily, battery needed replacing, creaks and rattles. It’s a nice car but my previous car was a 2007 Lexus LS460 and it beat the pants of the Jaguar .. disappointed
no ive never drove outside the UK, and as in my videos we ride a lot and have thought about going over to France but I don't like the French and they hate us here in the UK thanks for watching
Good review. Do you still own this? How did you find the car after this? Run into any problems etc? I'm looking at getting one myself. They look great fo the money. The one I was looking at was much higher milage.....140k. A little disconcerting. I will find out if and what work it's had done.
i loved this car and would have one again but do try and get one with less miles and with all history you can get check cat n & s as lot are with dodgy sellers !! do your home work on it bud as pay now rather than later
@@marksavage It has a full service history. I haven't been able to look at what work etc has or hasn't been carried out as of yet. Thanks for your advice. Did you run into many problems?
Im currently driving the x308 (2001 3.2 V8 executive) and are now contemplating for what after. Have U driven the petrol version and how does they compare?
no not from this model , I did drive the old shape petrol but to be honest the diesel version is so smooth with the twin turbo for boost they drive so well and once moving you couldn't tell its a diesel any way and you gain so much on mpg, on a run I was getting 48 mpg around town 30 ish and with the price of fuel here in the UK running the petrol version i'd be finding petrol station all the time lol by the time this government finish it will be £10 a litre £25 to go in to town and not allowed to drive them any where any way !!!
so many bmw's on the road and jag is so much nicer and really stands out, as for the inside the jag is way better that a sea of black plastic ! I was getting 47mpg on about £90 to fill but with fuel prices and all it will be different well worth a test drive
Sorry to post this on an unrelated video, but what weight rollers would you recommend on a 1999 AC Speedfight? Should I go for 6g or would a 4/8 combi work better? Thanks Mark.
Lee Butler hi I used to combi but to be honest it’s about the total weight which in you case wold be the same 36 g So use 6g bud If you wanted to play and add a little more go for 5g and 8g 3 of each I have over 70 speedfight videos and many on the variator system all worth a watch
If only Jaguar/Landrover invested the time and £/$ to design in better reliability, durability, repairability. Sure it takes, better design, engineering, manufacturing proceses, standards, and control of external suppliers. It's vital for the long term functioning of the car, it's reliability and reputation, way beyond the 1-3-4 yeat reports.
Hey mark,i know that this is not video about scooters but i need help,i am following you for more than a year now and you answered all my questions and i hope that this one will be answered as well...i am thinking about buying a gilera runner but the problem is this...scooter was working fine, next day the guy wanted to start the bike and the kick starter was blocked its not moving at all its stuck and the bike wont start on the battery by button either, and he said that if you want to.start it by button it just goes blank, like its spinning but nothing...what do.you think, what is the problem? Pa Ce sounds like the kick start has jammed down and still connected to the fly wheel Take off engine cover and release and investigate the problem Maybe broken teeth as that’s common
Incidentally, this is what Jaguar say about replacing belts on XF or XJ 3.0L D engines:
Replace timing belt every 112,000 miles or 10 years. Replace high-pressure fuel pump drive belt every 144,000 miles or 9 years.
They are great cars and happy you love yours as much as I do
And I agree with your notes
How is it for parking at Tesco ect
Idk why people dont like the rear of these vehicles. I love it!! I think id like to take on the "challenge" of owning one of these beautiful machines.
I have to say I do love mine and really enjoy driving it
Thanks for watching

@@marksavage How’s the fuel consumption, reliability and maintenance costs?
Nice video my friend. A good walkaround the car and I'm looking at getting either a Portfolio or Supersport this year. The Supersport (probably due to insurance and tax) depreciates like a bomb which is great as a 2nd hand buy. As long as you can live with the costs and petrol consumption. Nice video and glad you enjoy your XJ Portfolio.
wow that was a good comment packed full of advice thanks bud, you do know your stuff
as for me I'm loving my car and will sort out the few bit but smile every day I drive it
take care
@@andrewharper4296 haha no I don't mind the strange looks in boots and the pile cream pmsl, if I had a extra £10k I would of got a newer one however in a few years I will stick with the xj and upgrade to a newer one then
take care bad
@@marksavage Yeah for sure. My budget only reaches the 1st gen cars as well which is fine. On the whole they are well looked after which is the important thing. Take care matey.
Jezez man , you just wrote a book about Jag
Mark, thanks for the review. I own a 10 plate which I picked up in 2014 with 20k miles on the clock and its an absolute delight to drive. The only thing I feel I should highlight is the fact that if you are not going to use it often, invest in a Ctek battery charger because you will be needing it as the battery drains quickly. Alternatively you can also turn off the light settings / mirror etc from automatic to manual as this saves battery power. :)
Now that is great advice and true as I had to buy a new battery after leaving it for two weeks and it was completely dead grrrrr
Otherwise yes great cars
Thanks for watching
Dynamic mode or the flag button by the gear selector, brings the redness.
Jim Henry they are great cars and yes it is and does turn the clocks red
25 na there’s no age just great cars for all
Thanks for watching
It took me a year to find one that I wanted. I opted for the Portfolio LWB model 3litre diesel. it can be a bugger to find a parking space but well worth it. A truly awesome car.
David Russell even my swb I have to drive around a little to find a happy parking space lol
They do look good walk away from and back too
Love it
someone much younger was talking at work about how fast his car would get to sixty, and I just smiled....
Sorry Jim, beat you to it! ;)
I like how when you lock the car, the side mirrors fold in. That's pretty neat. What! Really! A park, drive and reverse turn switch. That's so high tech.
Just picked up my Jaguar XJ R-Sport today, and thank this video for the inspiration. What an absolutely beautiful beast.
Very happy for you bud , great cars
I love theese cars, real showstoppers, my first matchbox was an XJ6. :) I usually use my cars 10 years or so. Considering the possible maintenance costs of this at the age of 10-15 years, I'll stay away from this and buy an old fashioned 4.2 XF. Brute force, interior and exterior design to die for, less complicated, good reputation. Less luxury, less amount of toys, but I rather can think of it as a long term partner. I love the Jags! Lovely motor, I hope it'll serv you well.
One of the best car reviews on here, thanks fella
Thats so nice to hear bud
Many thanks and for watching
Take care
I was really looking forward to seeing this, and was not disappointed. Great video mate love all the details. I would spend all day in there watching the gear selector going up and down lol. Stunning motor and the colour really complements it. There really is something very special about jags. P.s I would be tempted to do the cam belt for peace of mind, easy to say when its not my money lol. Great car and great vid thanks for sharing
thanks bud and yes another you tuber has said the same thing and to be honest it will play on my mind to get it sorted
thanks for watching
Nice looking motor! Always been a fan of Jags, although never owned one..yet!
Finally a review that shows the car how it really is and not just gimmicks and cool stuff. Might get one soon, just love the looks of it, really a stunner even after almost 10 years.
That's really good to hear and thanks
I do try and be honest with my reviews
Theres a few more on this car on my channel
Life changes and am selling mine ,something I really didn't want to have to do but have enjoyed every mile drove
Take care
@@marksavage Thanks, gonna look into them. Drive much and safe with your new vehicle, keep it up
Great video, though I have never experienced bad wheel bolts or a creaky sunroof, I did, however, have bad TPMS on 2 wheels. They corrode but Jaguar didn't cover it under warranty which was a pain. You forgot to mention they have double glazed windows, you can see when you roll them down that there are 2 bits of glass rather than 1.
If you hold the race flag by the handbrake, that gives you a bit more umph and that's how you get the dials to go red, you still have all the traction control on etc. and the snowflake/winter mode turns them blue and makes it harder to accelerate.
there was a few things I forgot as the jaguar has a lot to talk about and the glass went out of my head, I had seen how to do it and again just forgot so sorry but since.
other youtuders has mentioned how to get the dials red and into sports and all in it's a great car and I love
thanks for watching
Gorgeous car. My favourite in that category.
I agree and love mine
IF your having a problem with the slow responce to the controls on the infotainment unit try to find a unit from a 2012/2014 car easy enough to replace just plug and play only thing you lose is the little display map that appears in the dash display
You forgot the super-cool soft close doors!! BTW: the dash goes red when you press the dynamic mode button and blue when you press the snow mode button.
LoL Bowers and Winkleman 😂🤣😂
as all ready said in comments below
added a man lol - Bowers & Wilkins 1200w , really does sound nice , thanks for watching
Hilton very true with the XE
I do love this car and still feel this one looks and has style for a Jaguar
Thanks for the comments bud
🤡🤣😆😂🤣😆😂🤣😆😂🤣
Press the chequered flag button by the gear selector = Dynamic mode and the dash goes red & it turns into a beast ! Press the snowflake button dash turns blue and is great in wet/icy conditions.. really calms it down.
Neil Jenkins that was it yes!
Thank you bud I remember it went red somehow lol
Thanks for the advice and for watching
@@taurustime Also, the Tata Motors ownership certainly brought a lot of positivity to the brand
Nice car and a good video. Cambelt situation they are fairly easy to do on these, tho I have seen people forgot to do the rear diesel pump belt at the back. Another thing to look out for around 70k is rocker covers cracking, it's part of the intake manifold, didn't see it on the 2.7 personally mostly on the 3.0
hi bud it had the rear oil belt done when he change the turbo so I knew about that one, never tried to do a cam belt and to be fair not going to try and do one lol
so will end up paying out but will keep in mind the covers, thanks for the advice
Mark, Dash will turn red when you press the dynamic button, below and left of the gear selector, as this will stiffen up the suspension and improve throttle response, Sport gives you manual paddle changes etc .....
Top man yes another youtuber has said too , I had forgot how to do it at the time of doing the video and your right it really does improve the cars driving and performance
Have to say I’m still loving the car and thanks for watching
The stereo is Bower & Wilkins. Not only do I have a set of desktop MM-1s on my PC, in a previous life I sold quality HiFi. The kind of crap you played, can be heard on any old sh#t like boss or an iPhone. Real music, needing low and mid range response is why you buy B&W. Your music choice may be pretty poor, but the review of the car has been helpful and is appreciated.
It was what was on the radio lol , however thank you for watching
Excellent real life review. I have a 2012 XF which is brilliant however the wheel nuts snapping was something I hadn’t anticipated & this has happened on 3 of the wheels. Never thought I’d have to use a hole saw.
I know bud so common as in my video on them , it wasn't fun !!!, however otherwise a great car
The dash will go blue when you press the left button below the gear dial that is winter mode and car will move off in second gear
The dash will do red when you press the button on left above the park brake that is dynamic mode and suspension will stiffen so you can drive harder round corners and whatnot
Put it in Sport, Press and hold the Race Flag Button (located next to handbrake), Dashboard colour changes to angry Red, UNBELEIVEABLE performance, throttle response, gear change and handling....Love My XJ.
This boi does 0-70 in his car with a 6 Liter gearbox and that sweet bowers and winkleman stereo. what a man
A few slip ups bud you know what I was trying to say all in a great car
David Russell thanks and that good to hear you enjoyed it
My sunroof is nice and quite now so worth doing
As for cam belt yes worth getting it looked at and changed as going by what jag said plus the forums
Take care bud
Oh no that's not good and seems really bad luck bud
What went wrong if you did everything right?
Nice video and lovely car Mark, speaking from personal experience I would get that cam belt changed for piece of mind, I had one let go and a £500 job end up costing me over £3k and that wasnt a Jag engine :(

I have the new 2019 one Mark
Right before it got discontinued
I always feel like the brakes are shaking at high speeds and the suspension is a little more on to the bouncy side. I tried to send it to service but they said everything was just fine. Did you feel the same too?
I have LWB but still, it’s pretty cramped.
Press dynamic button to get clocks to change colour red or snow move for blue
yes bud and it looks amazing and goes well, thanks for watching I am still loving mine
Similar problem when I had a Mercedes, snapped wheel lugs. When you get new tyres, INSIST that the do NOT use the air gun to remove or replace the lugs and they are set to the correct torque. If they don’t and they break, Bill the tyre company for new lugs.
I know bud I was not happy and am thinking of doing that as they knew not to use the gun on them, thanks for watching
To be precise, it is not the camera that turns when you have it in reverse and turn the steering wheel. It is just the lines the system projects to show where you will go.
yes that's what I meant to say, if you watch my other videos I do try and remember it all so bear with me for my little mistakes but thanks for clearing it up for others that may watch it after
thanks for watching
mark
It was a good review. I love that XJ.
I have got exact car and color the only issues i had is with passenger side door handle.its a beautiful car to own and hassle free.
Agree all in great cars but for the battery often goes dead when you dont use them for long periods of time
Nice video mate. I've just brought one. Absolutely love it. Cheers John.

I have one. It's an epic car. 2012. 30k miles and £21k when I got it (Dealer Approved) with 12 months warranty. Faultless. One took a hammering from potholes and needs repairing. Satnav is stupid and often thinks it's in Belgium. But still an epic car.
thanks for watching bud and agree with the sat nav but not for being in Belgium lol but a little hard with pressing the touch screen as I find I have to press a few times but they got better on the mk2

Dave Spooney no it’s a standard thing along with the wheel nuts lol

And what about 2 years later ?
Hey Mark, great review. I want to ask if you know about issues surrounding corrosion problems on sunroof runners as I’m looking to buy an XJ in next year or so. I’ve read that the 2013 models were updated and don’t have this issue? Its also important that the car is Euro 6 and bizarrely some ‘13-on are advertised as having this and others not when checked against Tfl ulez. Have you experienced many air suspension issues this has put me off in the past. I currently drive an LS400 but starting to feel its age. Thanks
You do have to check the sunroof runners and yes they did sort this out but I'd still check
I'd no seen any with air bag problems but all in low mile and full service is a must
I loved my jag just a great looking car all round and stands out for me from the others

Not the wheel nuts ,it's being overtightened in the first place.
They were not supposed to be put on with air power tools so yes bud agree
Was seriously considering one of these, I currently have a 2010 VW phaeton and considering the cost difference between the two I can't see the advantages of the Jag other than looks. My phaeton has virtually the same spec

enjoy bud and thanks for watching

Very nice jag
The audio system looks great. Anyone know why they stopped putting audio systems into these cars? My 2016 XE only has the low bit rate USB input.
i guess due to cost and the xe is the baby of the jag family and they just like to sell the basic unless you up the spec

Going to see one next weekend 2015 with 23k miles. Anyone wanna comment to its reliability?
most of the issues I have talked about were sorted by 2013 so 2015 model will be fine and all in they are great cars, as for mine I love it and enjoy driving it every time I get behind the wheel
just get used to finding the right space in car parks lol but if you cared about your cars like me I did that any way
thanks for watching there are a few more videos on my channel about the jag all worth a watch
Guess they have to save money somewhere !
But this is still an amazing car to own and drive
I never felt cheap parking it up and getting out of lol
@@marksavage It's definately the next car I want!
Really good video. Just about convinced me to get one
You have to test drive one bud , just great cars
...so do I!
I have a 13 plate Luxury model, within 2 weeks of owning it. Suspension light on and off daily, battery needed replacing, creaks and rattles. It’s a nice car but my previous car was a 2007 Lexus LS460 and it beat the pants of the Jaguar .. disappointed

Im currently driving the x308 (2001 3.2 V8 executive) and are now contemplating for what after. Have U driven the petrol version and how does they compare?
no not from this model , I did drive the old shape petrol but to be honest the diesel version is so smooth with the twin turbo for boost they drive so well and once moving you couldn't tell its a diesel any way and you gain so much on mpg, on a run I was getting 48 mpg around town 30 ish and with the price of fuel here in the UK running the petrol version i'd be finding petrol station all the time lol
by the time this government finish it will be £10 a litre £25 to go in to town and not allowed to drive them any where any way !!!
How much to fill and what do you get from a full tank, split between this and the BMW 730b
so many bmw's on the road and jag is so much nicer and really stands out, as for the inside the jag is way better that a sea of black plastic !
I was getting 47mpg on about £90 to fill but with fuel prices and all it will be different
well worth a test drive
Sorry to post this on an unrelated video, but what weight rollers would you recommend on a 1999 AC Speedfight? Should I go for 6g or would a 4/8 combi work better?
Thanks Mark.
Lee Butler hi
I used to combi but to be honest it’s about the total weight which in you case wold be the same 36 g
So use 6g bud
If you wanted to play and add a little more go for 5g and 8g 3 of each
I have over 70 speedfight videos and many on the variator system all worth a watch
If only Jaguar/Landrover invested the time and £/$ to design in better reliability, durability, repairability. Sure it takes, better design, engineering, manufacturing proceses, standards, and control of external suppliers. It's vital for the long term functioning of the car, it's reliability and reputation, way beyond the 1-3-4 yeat reports.
they all seem to be the same bud , we are in a 3 year change your car so its someone else's problem

I am sorry about my bad english,i hope that you can help me,thank you, have a nice one
Pa Ce sounds like the kick start has jammed down and still connected to the fly wheel
Take off engine cover and release and investigate the problem
Maybe broken teeth as that’s common
