    I bought one secondhand out of a salvage yard for $7k. Replacing coolant parts, but before the coolant pipe in the back broke, I love how comfortable, smooth, and sophisticated the car is. Especially the Meridian sound system.

    I made a prediction 7 years ago to several of my friends - "The XF/XJ/F-Type models would go onto be recognised as design classics in the coming 20 years.
    (1) The F-Type is a nailed on successor for the E-Type.
    (2) The XF has subtle rear haunches just like the old XJ of the 70s and will age just as well.
    (3) The XJ will still look classy and fresh without being brash and in your face with loads of chrome and eye catching bling - -"It's a hand made suit and not off the peg therefore it ALWAYS looks like bespoke quality".
    They heartily laughed at me -7 years later they're agreeing with me !!.
    PS - I own an XF and it's great looking from ANY angle ,it turns heads wherever i drive it or park it and it's a great conversation starter for girls -they love it's understated looks and charm.
    PLUS -IT'S A JAAAAAAAG !!.

    • @shubobtv
      @shubobtv 4 месяца назад

      Totally agree. I remember when the XJ was first shown on Top Gear and how futuristic the design was. It's a truly timeless design because 14 years on it still looks as luxurious as most modern cars today from BMW, Mercedes and Audi etc. Looking forward to getting an XJ. Currently have an X6 and looking to getting a luxurious saloon. How ownership cost been like for you?

    • @Millmiglia001
      @Millmiglia001 Месяц назад +2

      @@shubobtvI have had no problems because I've treated my xf from new (only has 25k on the clock) with care -
      (1) Changed oil/filter (Jaguar brand)/flush every 4k and not 8k as specified.
      (2) Rear diff oil change at 20k (Castrol EP75W90).
      (3) Auto fluid change at 25k
      (Mannol AG 22 AT AG55) - for the 6 speed transmission is the fluid that it came out of the factory with.
      (4) Use cataclean every 8k.
      (5) Castrol Edge 5w/30 engine oil - EVERY oil change (Recommended oil for this engine).
      So far so good.
      My friends laugh at me, but, i have ALWAYS looked after EVERY car I've ever owned meticulously and i have NEVER been let down by any of them and i have owned Fords to Volvos.

    • @shubobtv
      @shubobtv Месяц назад

      @Millmiglia001 just by reading that lengthy list that you have wrote, I can tell you.Are someone who has meticulously taken care of everything very finely and credit to you. They are machines at the end of the day and how you take care of it will reflect equally on the longevity it gives.

    I bought 2014 XJ recently.
    Previously had the XF.
    The XJ is easily the greatest car I ever drove.
    Reliability issues with Cooling system and suspension had me slightly Apprehensive but, the price VS value is worth the repair costs.

      @@147NITRO quality, overall and driving, XJ every time. Reliability I'd say is similar, i've heard horror stories from both, but you have to be prepared for these things with a car that retailed near £90,000gbp. I had a few niggles around the 110k mark but still the best bang for your buck for that level of car on the used market.

I am planning to buy my next car late next year but the thing is Jaguar stopped the XJ production. It is a shame really because I want a brand new but since the production had been stopped then I will settle with a 2019 XJ or an XJL.

    The engine on my 2014 jaguar XJL died at 126K miles. (All routine and regular maintenance performed meticulously). The dealership said I could get a new engine for $25,000. I spent over $13,000 in repair and maintenance in the three years I had this car. Now I have a 4100 pound paperweight in my driveway.

    Thanks for this sir, I'm about to change from a 2.0 litre F-Pace and was looking to trade up into a 2nd hand 3.0 litre V6 model. But it seems I can get an XJ portfolio (with the required 3 ltr. V6) plus levels of kit way beyond the equivalent F-pace. Seems strange given the difference in starting price. You said depreciation of 60% from new prices after 3 years, but I've just seen an XJ R sport, 1 year old, with 8k miles for sub £35k??? which is mad. I'm guessing with the imminent model update/change, and the obsession with crossover/suv style cars, now is a good time to be looking at picking off a serious bargain. It will be a daily drive so it was good to hear your thoughts on the practicalities as well as the obvious emotive reasons

    Hi Tom,
    First of all cheers for the great review!
    secondly, I am glad another Musician fella is on Jag!
    thirdly, when you mentioned that this car seems and looks like money. my personal perception has always been like this Jag looks and seems like "The beast you are not going to fuck with.."
    4, I would love to ask about a few specific things regarding driving/owner wise.:
    1, Night visibility and driving during the night/ dark/ late evening, how convenient and comfortable you felt even at parts where you have had really dim conditions ahead of you.
    2, using and the actual usage of rare and front parking camera and camera system in all.
    Cheers mate,
    regards,
    Marshall,

    • @TheAutoDad
      @TheAutoDad  5 лет назад

      I think a Jag is a proper musicians car, that’s why I personally own an XF! The XJ definitely looks not to be messed with, equally it looks mega luxurious too. Driving at night is no issue, brilliant visibility all right - fantastic headlights - a really lovely cabin too. The surround view camera system is superb, however to use the front camera it isn’t always as simple as the reverse camera. Equally, when parking, it’s easy to select them all. Getting out of a junction requires a little digging in a menu, however it’s easy enough. I wouldn’t rely on the front camera for junctions though - just to give you a rough idea of what’s going on.

    I own a 2012 XJ Portfolio with a B & W sound system which is very good, but never having listened to the Meridian system I can't say which is better. Incidentally, the X351 was in production from 2010 to 2019, not 2008/2009 which was the X358(old shape), and personally I think a better car all-round in as much that the electronic/electrical system and switchgear were all reliable Ford products. You only have to visit a Jag forum to see how many owners suffer with electronic/electrical problems to realise that JLR got it big time wrong, and this is sad because had they got it right by subcontracting the electronic/electrical work to a Japanese company the car would have been head and shoulders a better ride! Please do not misunderstand,...I love Jaguars, always have since childhood and my XJ is my third Jag, but I just think that as a company they have lost their way big time!

    I prefer the older body style. It just looks classier. This isn't bad, and obviously every car is starting to look either like a sports car, an Asian import or an American muscle car, but I just wish luxury cars would be luxury cars again. This and the Genesis are the only ones who seem to at least be attempting to maintain some semblance of what a luxury car is. I don't care how it handles. Can I get out of a parking lot without a problem? Great. A luxury car should look like a luxury car and be comfortable, smooth and soft. Unfortunately, those cars are on the way out and instead we've got "luxury" cars that have a rough ride and lots of tech and toys, if a manufacturer offers a sedan at all. I wish Jaguar's reliability had improved over time, because they'd be my first choice.
