I live in Pakistan and had no idea who this man is. Just listening to his simple talk made me admire him for his wisdom and rational thinking. Unfortunately, Pakistani society cannot produce such efficient administrators. Corruption, lying, lying, lying, lying and nepotism is considered necessity in Pakistan. Singaporeans are LucKY that they had a wise administrator like.

I think Malaysia is a better model for Pakistan than Singapore is (because of the same religion). At least, I think Pakistani society can produce a good leader like Dr. Mahathir Mohamad of Malaysia.

China under Deng was smart and humble enough to learn from the very successful Singapore model. Other nations still want to “try to figure it all out on their own”.

Lky can only be one of the best statesman (not necessary a leader) of the world becos he has the most and longest experience as a statesman compared to any other world leaders. How did he achieve this? By concentrating absolute state power and state control in his office and using this concentrated power to remain in power, hence extending his experience beyond any other active state leaders.
@@seeshow77 don't forget Singapore is a small island state with a generally homogeneous population, the challenges for larger continental countries with diverse ethnic populations and social systems, like class and religion and historical baggage, are more complex to govern,LKY could not have succeeded in Latin America, Africa and near East.

After playing several management type game that have corruption. Yes, corruption is the no 1 enemy to your empire. They will steal your money, weaken your influence and make your empire weak. I've spent more time thinking a way of fighting corruption than fighting the enemy.

@@KittehsMadness i played a lot but remember 1 prominent game and that's civilization 3. Very old game but the corruption system is a fucking hassle to handle, you can't fight it directly only by building a certain type of building. You can make a city anywhere you wanted but the further it is from your capital, the more corruption it has. Early game or setting your city is nightmare since it's high with corruption unless you build something to fight it. High corruption mean you lose more money and everything you build is slower. You need soldier okay usually it take 2 turn but now it's 3. This city should gave me 60 gold but with corruption it's 49. It's really bad when you are at war and they city is just ineffective. It's even worst when you have more citizens in your city
and Obama was corrupted, he went on to start a new war in Ukraine, Syria and Libya

Yes, what a living legend. All his life, LKY is always on the go. I feel he needs a breather and relax. He cares too much for Singapore.and the people. I hope he knows we care for him in return though we don't show it .
Wonder if he likes ice-cream like I do. Well, if he were my granddad I would lke to take him to a place with lots of greenery, running stream tripping over the rocks and birds chirping above. And then I would pop open a box with all goodies and let him enjoy some fishing.
This interview was conducted 12 years old. I doubted the arrogant but well known interviewer Charlie Rose knew nut about Chinese history and culture. That's the problem for the Westerners whom until today still thought they are still the best and still living in the 15th century mindset.
that's a very negative mindset, this world is incredibly hard to live in as we all move towards a single governance, the earth is our home, we are all human, we all naturally want to live in peace and love. nothing can stop the single race that humans will become. nothing!

This US interviewer act like an interrogator and damn rude to cut in between sentence.Mr.Lee look quite disturbing.
Thats precisely his style. But i mean even if you arnt familiar with charlie rose, doesnt the fact that countless statesmen and leaders of industries world over (needless to say LKY himself) have come on his shows knowing full well what to expect say something about the interviewer's own acheivements and reputation? Hes there to do what he thinks is his due dilligence to the audience. Some credit is warranted.
It is the interviewer's show, and his job is to ask questions for us. He is not a tool of the State, as LKY and his slobbering fans might wish him to be.

@@advancedmonkey7702 I agree, that South Africa is a mess. I don't agree that Mandela caused it. Mandela was NOT a corrupt individual. I think the previous apartheid regime and the Western world caused it. I think if he had more time he would have been able to ensure proper structures were entrenched thereby ensuring people coming after him were better suited to manage what was a very difficult situation. Please keep in mind that he was given hobson's choice plus a corrupt and debt riddled country. Not one of the big Western fronts which included the USA, were willing to expunge their debt. They wanted payment with interest. Many Western companies and countries benefited largely from their association with the apartheid government and continue to do so. I still believe Mandela would have been the person to make SA a better country if he had 20 years instead of only four. Unfortunately I do know my SA history, it is not a good story much like all the stories we are fed by those who want us to believe all their bulldust. The story is tooooo long to deal with in this forum. All I said was listening to Lee Kuan Kew reminded me of Mandela. Lee Kuan Kew himself was not perfect (but who is). Many would argue that Singapore is.......... And so forth. What he had to instill such structures, was time.
Wow how I wish he is still around but leading the US, his wisdom is gold and he is truly a man of vision.

Charlie Rose had been respectful in his tone, gave LKY space and time to answer and was playful in parts. LKY seemed to be relaxed and enjoyed his time; almost a casual chat. Quite a good interview.

As misleading as it may seems, Charlie is actually one of Lee's friend, he is sharp to understand what Lee say thus the quick cut off.

I think I watched this interview live. He was pretty sharp. I watched Charlie Rose's show a lot, but never liked him. His narcissism was annoying. He also was intrusive and disrespectful to women, creepy when they were young and attractive. Maria Sharapova, for example.

So, what Lee says is true. India is not a homogeneous nation like China which puts her at a disadvantage.And your claim that "santa na dharma" is the best race only leads to more friction in Indian society. Lee never uses such words which led to singapore's success!

But "Vietnam invading Cambodia" is NOT TRUE. The Pol Pot was committing war crime against the Cambodian and tried to invade Vietnam, that was why the Vietnamese had to send troops to fight them to save themselves and Cambodian people.
The Chinese actually supported the Pol Pot to invade Vietnam from the south then they could attack from the north in the attempt to invade Vietnam. In 1979, the Chinese attacked Vietnam from the north but the Vietnamese were able to push them back.
We Vietnamese haven't mentioned much about the invasion attempt of Chinese because we want to keep peace with them, not because we ever forget about that.

The problem with the west and the Americans is arrogance. They think that it's only them who know what's right for everyone. Things have changed much in the last 10 years. It's disturbing to see alot of homeless people on the streets of the richest country in the world. The American leadership is no longer working for the American people, instead there lobbying for corporations. There infrastructure is worse, and fighting endless wars has brought alot of suffering and distraction in those countries they have attacked . It's time to go back on the drawing board and lay a new strategy to combat terrorism. I grew up admiring the US but now am having a second thought. The whole world has been copying US and I think it's time for US to accept the reality that there others new players on the global stage. The world will be a better place if US and the rest of the world work together.
