    The late MM really had great foresight.

    Whathappened over the weekend on Afghanistan was actually not unexpected!

    I am sorry I think you didn't get ur facts right.
    1. Lee doesn't OWN GIC, He is merely the chairman of the sovereign fund. The profit of the company goes back to GIC which also translate to Singapore.
    2. Lee doesn't make his son the PM, SM Goh was his appointment.
    3. Again I will like to highlight that the money that GIC used is for investment purposes to improve the state reserve.
    In a nutshell, they control the company because they have the brain to do it well

    Lee Kuan Yew made singapore to what it is today, but policies that work 30 years ago does not work in today's world, much have changed, PAP has not. PAP is still the best choice for Government, but if they do not change, Singapore WILL look else where, gratitude does not mean servitude.

    for me the word dictator does not mean something automatically bad, just means something else than democracy... but a dictator can be good, when wise... Didn't Aristotle say democracy is the gvt by the foolish masses and oligarchy by the few educated?... I know this assumption sounds kind of arrogant, but it is at least partly true if you look at it closely...

    As a Singaporean, I'd say that Lee Kuan Yew was an incredibly shrewd and effective leader who led the country on a fast track to wealth. But I'll say that he's not the man he once was, and has become the very type of leader he once spoke out against, and is evidence that absolute power changes a person, often not for the better. I still have a great deal of respect for him, but like any other person, he is imperfect, and these imperfections are amplified by the extent of his political influence.

    GIC is a sovereign wealth fund - Fact
    He doesn't use the money for "his investment" - Fact
    He use the money for investment for Singapore - Fact
    GIC accounts to the public for it's investment ( Annual Report) - Fact
    He is investing with GIC because he got Brain.

    Lee is a master of illusions.... you have to be a Singaporean to understand. He sounds good.... but thats the truth... He "Sounds" good.... but he's a dictator, and he's a bully. Singapore may look rich, but the people are not happy. All the money and power is with his family and then his cronies...

    LOL Yes Indeed. Please do some check up on how many first world Country is using Public Money for Investment to increase the nation reserve :D
    And FYI GIC is doing a good job. They are extremely profitable which means Singapore's Reserve is Growing growing :D

  • @JunLFC
    @JunLFC 13 лет назад

    @bremneshatten
    The shareholders of GIC is Singapore. The profits goes back to Singapore. That's the reason it is call a Sovereign Wealth fund. It's main purpose is to mange SIngapore foreign reserve. MM Lee is merely an employee/ adviser of the company and he doesn't hold any shares of the company.
    Once again you state that you "guess" that MM Lee is a shareholder, apparently this is not a fact. I hope this enlighten you :)

    The Associated Press Aug 2010 reported tht Singapore regularly ranks near the top in expatriate quality of life surveys, and the govt expects the economy to grow as much as 15 % this year as trade, finance and tourism boom after the global downturn. Foreigners from developed countries are drawn to jobs in finance, shipping and at corporate regional headquarters.
    Far from scaring them off, Singapore's tough law-and-order policies tend to attract many expatriate families n other visitors.

    @9f0rLive I absolutely agree with u. But this is reality. No matter how successful a country is or how good a leader is, there will be a group of people who will pick faults on others.They don't know they are living in one of the best places in the world . Maybe if they visited other countries and look at the sufferings of other people , they would not know how fortunate we are as Singaporeans. Just remember this people : THERE IS NO PERFECT PLACE ON EARTH ,SO BE CONTENT WITH WHAT U HAVE!

    politics should not be used to gain business advantages. unfortunately, from what i can see, there is a blatant misdealing in this aspect in Singapore. several large pseudo-private firms in Singapore are headed by key political parties or their family members, who are clearly incompetent judging by the losses, yet able to retain their positions. also the fact that these companies are often given huge funding (as mentioned by bremneshatten) with no accountability to the public.

    The only thing he got it wrong is about Chinese culture not embrasive. In itself there are 56 ethnic groups and we are seeing more and more foreigners embracing Chinese cultures and settling in China. That has happened even during Tang Dynasty where it flourished with many foreigners streaming in through the Silk Route.

    • @chilliwatski
      @chilliwatski 2 года назад

      This interview was done 11 years ago. During that time, most people perception about China was quite narrow and shallow. There was way less foreigners residing in China back then compare to today's China! And I think when he said foreigners he meant other nationalities/people from other country, not ethnicities within China.
      I used to work in the airline industry but my company only started flying to China in late 80s~early 90s! At the beginning, there were only 2 flights a week to Beijing. But by the time I left the company, there were 56 flights a week to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and etc. I must say China has progressed in supersonic speed in the past 20 years! And he was right again to predict China's rise in the 2nd half of 21st century!

A lawyer with a PhD fm Harvard can stand up well to any challenges, he need not fear a chef fm Shanghai except of course in the kitchen.
