Thank you so much! I am a voice teacher that always teach my students about correct posture, because I have seen how much the right or wrong (esp. neck, and of course the spine) posture/position will bring a significant impact to your voice production. Postural AWARENESS is important indeed. If I may share, I always teach my students that posture is a product of "heart". IMHO, our mental attitude, esp. how do we think or see of ourselves, is very significant toward our posture, the way we walk, or we stand, or even talk. Our muscles memorize the repeated references of our mind. I think when we look at ourselves in a positive and good way, it will help us to have a good postural awareness, and then build a better/correct posture (which I myself am still doing it continuously until today). Thank you so much for sharing all this, it will definitely help my vocal students.
I started working on my posture a year ago and it’s improved drastically. I went from having the posture of an elderly woman to almost having perfect posture. I had kyphosis and forward head posture along with forward rounded shoulders And anterior pelvic tilt. Not to mention uneven hips and shoulders. Like seriously awkward and physically uncomfortable posture. My neck hurt and I couldn’t turn it to the side all the way and I physically couldn’t stand up straight no matter how hard I tried. I was legit stuck like that. This was from being unemployed for a long time while being extremely sedentary due to depression and lack of motivation. The first thing that helped tremendously and instantly was a combination of myofascial release of the chest muscles followed by wall angels. The next thing I noticed to help was stretching the front of my neck. I’d do this by pulling down on my chest and tilting my head back and experimenting with different angles. Recently, I’ve been trying to fix my anterior pelvic tilt and forward rounded shoulders. I’ve been doing stretches for the front of my hips and exercises to strengthen my hip flexors. I also started stretching the sides of my calves and that has helped loosen the tight muscles in my legs and get them to work better. My calves have always been really small and I just noticed today that they look huge lol. Idk what happened. I’ve just been stretching them. So that’s a plus lol. All of the exercises and stretches I’ve done so far have helped me. Some way more than others. There’s a plethora of videos to follow along for everything I’ve mentioned. The number one thing I’ve learned, though, is that you get the best results when you stretch and strengthen your muscles. In that order. You’ve gotta work that muscle right away after you stretch it, so it doesn’t have a chance to get short and tight again. Strengthening it will help keep it from doing that. The rest really is habit.
I learned exercises and stretches from many videos and kept doing the ones that made me feel quick improvements. These included doing wall angels, stretching hip flexors, strengthening glutes, and working on my core by doing vacuums and crunches. The exercise he showed for the neck in this video is helpful, too. For me, it was easier to do certain exercises after stretching first. Like the glutes were easier to activate after stretching the front of my hips, for example. Sometimes you need to stretch one muscle in order to activate it, and sometimes you need to stretch a muscle to activate one on the opposite side. This is long explanation, but it’s so worth the extra time to read and apply. I seriously recommend you always stretch before exercises, and strengthen every muscle you stretch.
thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. the pain, soreness, and headaches come from a forward head and bad posture is real. 6 + years of suffering. couldn't believe all this pain is coming from forward-head and bad posture until I start doing the exercises, I felt much better. Hi Yiannis, I've to say that your video are very informative and one of the few that are really addressing the problem from the right perspective. Suffering from a upper cross syndrome due some kind of predisposition plus years of bad posture in front of pc (I'm a developer) I can confirm that is useless (and potentially causing more issues at C5-C6 level) trying to fix only the forward head if you have also a very pronounced postural hyperkyphosis, or also (taking another step back) an anterior pelvic tilt. As you mentioned is important to address all the dysfunctional components, and sometimes it's a real challenge because many cases need some degree of personalized assessment. I've the upright go 2 and also in that case I confirm is at the moment the best device I'm aware of for receiving a constant feedback on your kyphotic angulation, too bad It doesn't also monitor lateral inclination. Another environment change that I can suggest for those that stay a lot of time sitting in front of the pc and have rounded shoulder is switching to a split keyboard. Keeping the hands distant have the effect to open the chest and retracts the shoulder blades and this is helping me have a better upper trunk posture. I'm looking forward for your hyperkyphosis videos in the meantime thanks also for providing all the research papers, I'm taking my time to dig deeper into them. This is giving me enough data to plan for a dedicated daily routine to follow consistently and monitor with method the progresses. @@YiannisChristoulasWell u explained about the forward head posturee which is caused by the hyperkyphosis. 😌😌 And wht about the forward head posture which is caused by hypokyphosis ( which caused due to sway back) 😌😌😌
As someone with this condition the 20 pounds thing feels contradicting. When I'm in forward head posture I'm more relaxed because that's what I'm used to and my body is adapted to, whereas if I straighten my posture so that my head is aligned how it's supposed to be with "0 pounds" I struggle to stay like that, and it's a huge effort to keep it in that posture
Hi there! Thanks for sharing your experience, it is so important to have conversations around each of these topics, I wish I had more time to answer all comments. What you say makes total sense. The 20 pounds thing has to do only with physics, any object that is far away from its vertical support point will be havier to support. The question is why you don't feel this way. First, there is a thing called angle-specific strength. This is a term that describes the development of strength in a joint in a specific angle. For example, you might be very strong in the bottom position of the squat but not so much at 90 degrees. Similarly, when you spend most of your time on a FHP you develop angle-specific strength in this position, driving your head back will force your muscles to work in completely different angles, and of course, in the beginning, it will feel harder. Second, our muscles have different abilities to apply force according to their length. When you're on a FHP you train your neck extensors (that are lengthened at that point) to apply force at a specific length. When you drive your head back at its neutral position these same muscles are shortened and must activate and coordinate in a different (shorter) length. This will also make you feel uncomfortable the first few days. Third, if you have also a curved/hunched back it's impossible (biomechanically) to maintain a neutral position of your head and neck. That being said if you don't first correct the position of the thoracic region it will feel unusually hard to keep your cervical spine in line. If you try again, update us on your progress
Great content! Lots of information and so nicely edited! Thank you very much :-D I work on PC 5days a week for more than 20years, and developed this bad habit you mentioned... Trying to correct it now!
All the physio vids talk about more treatments, this guy tells the truth. Change the bad habit does the magic for me. Free can be the best and difficult because changing the habit requires lots of work and time and will. Warning: change it progressively and listen to your body, keep you out of injury.
Great Video! As well as the exercises, is there not a sleeping position we can lie in? For example, lying on our backs? We are asleep for so many hours, and it would be nice to take advantage of this time.

Awesome video! Have seen a lot of FHP fix videos here on RUclips but I think I trust you the most. It makes totally sense what you say! I do have a little bit of FHP, kyphosis and rounded shoulders. How should I fix that? I don't know where to start 😕
@@YiannisChristoulas Thank you for your answer! I'm really looking forward to that video. My shoulder has been show stopper for me the last many years (I'm only 27), I think it's maybe some kind of impingement problems maybe due the lack of shoulder mobility caused by my poor posture (my own theory). The problem occurs pretty fast everytime I try to start a new exercise drill and I have noticed that it appears soon after some days doing exercises above my head. I don't do heavy lifting just rehabilitation exercises like angel wings up against the wall, push ups on my knees focusing on the part activating my serratus anterior and stuff like that. Ps I see why I should take of the hyperkyphosis first I think. Tried to look me in the mirror while trying to stand with good posture (straighting my back) and it's like my rounded shoulders almost disappears and the FHP is also really much reduced. Really really looking forward for your video! Have a great day!
Great video. I use Prof McGill research as part of my guidance and in all the other scientific and qualitative experiences have taught me that poor posture stems from poor habits as our body works to maintain homeostasis.

great content and critical reviwe of this topic! i have a question to the health problems that arise with forward head posture: who‘s the literature on that? because i also read some studies that actually say that there might not be a correlation between forward head posture and neck pain. what‘s your opinion on this? what does the correction of posture seems benefitial or necessary for? thanks for your answer!
Hey! I just discovered your videos and theyr fricking amazing! Science rules dude! Where can I find the PDF? Also, I would suggest to make the exercise example parts of video a bit longer!
So good content, thanks man. Even if i think it´s just logic what you explained. But the scientific aspect might make some people more aware. Keep going!
posture is determined by the innervation of the musculature. nerve interference to a muscle produces two main effects, elongation and weakness. this is the cause of postural distortion. in the case of so-called forward neck distortion, the scalene anterior neck muscles are neurogenically weak causing the loss and possible reversal of the cervical lordotic curvature. neurogenic muscle weakness cannot be remedied by exercise, only by restoring full innervation by correcting the source of the nerve interference cause.

Your videos are gold! And the world needs to see them. Thank you for your efforts.
apart from the content, your production quality is through the roof!
Thank you Marko! I'll try to make it even better in my future videos!
This guy is insane he deserve so much more subscriber

@@YiannisChristoulas it's excellent. I don't understand this guy's comment unless he's being sarcastic. You create excellent content and the production quality is excellent.
@@YiannisChristoulasWell u explained about the forward head posturee which is caused by the hyperkyphosis. 😌😌 And wht about the forward head posture which is caused by hypokyphosis ( which caused due to sway back) 😌😌😌
Thank you very much for the tips! I had these misconceptions and you have explained very well why the common solutions have not been working for me.
Thank you I’m glad that you found it helpful!
Damn! Another awesome video. You're the best, love your content, looking forward for the next one. Cheers from Brazil
Thank you Victor! I really appreciate it!
Thank you very much :-D
I work on PC 5days a week for more than 20years, and developed this bad habit you mentioned... Trying to correct it now!
Videos like this make me happy.
😄💪
Amazing video. So professional. So clear. Very well done. Congratulations. I will apply all your advice.
You are God-Sent. The God of science. Outstanding video.
Great content as always! I appreciate your work and the effort you put into making these videos
How am I missing this channel all these years
This chanel should have 10 times more subscribers.
All the physio vids talk about more treatments, this guy tells the truth. Change the bad habit does the magic for me. Free can be the best and difficult because changing the habit requires lots of work and time and will. Warning: change it progressively and listen to your body, keep you out of injury.
Thank you for your kindness and positive outlook. I greatly appreciate it
You are so welcome!
So logical and well explained 👍 I can't believe this is the first time RUclips has shown this to me
Thank you very much! Excerisis PDF is not uploaded yet. Could you please do so?
Thank you Lydia, yes I will ASAP!
Thank you so much!!! Finally a video that explains everything in details
is the video on hyperkyphosis still forthcoming? I would greatly appreciate it, also thanks for all the excellent work so far!
Great Video! As well as the exercises, is there not a sleeping position we can lie in? For example, lying on our backs? We are asleep for so many hours, and it would be nice to take advantage of this time.
How often should we do these exercises? This is great advice!
Excellent presentation with good clues of measurement/ cause and result. Thanks
Best advice!!! Best analysis!! Best explanation!! Best solutions!!!
Where is this postural assessment guide that you mentioned @ 2:22 ?
For the quality, so underrated!!

Hi Yiannis.
Came across your channel just a few days ago.
The content speaks for itself.
It's always refreshing to see evidence based solutions (with citations from contemporary research).
I wish you continued strength to maintain and improve the already outstanding quality of your work.
best regards.
Awesome video! Have seen a lot of FHP fix videos here on RUclips but I think I trust you the most. It makes totally sense what you say!
I do have a little bit of FHP, kyphosis and rounded shoulders. How should I fix that? I don't know where to start 😕
Thank you Chris! You should probably start from hyperkyphosis! I’m making a video on this one and will publish it soon enough
Your videos are top notch!! Super high quality 👌 Thank you for the effort you put into these videos
Thank you I appreciate it!
You literally saved my neck. Watched this video a few months ago and started to put it in practice. Thank you
I’m really happy to hear this Luiz! Keep it up!
How's it going? Did your posture completely improve?
Great video. I use Prof McGill research as part of my guidance and in all the other scientific and qualitative experiences have taught me that poor posture stems from poor habits as our body works to maintain homeostasis.
Awesome video, it's very informative! I added it to the latest article about bad posture on my blog, I think my readers would really benefit from hearing this.
SO Helpful and clear- Thank you
Thank you Susan!
Very good advice! Looking forward to your hyperkyphosis video. I have this and suffer from back/neck/cervical pain for many years.
great content and critical reviwe of this topic! i have a question to the health problems that arise with forward head posture: who‘s the literature on that? because i also read some studies that actually say that there might not be a correlation between forward head posture and neck pain. what‘s your opinion on this? what does the correction of posture seems benefitial or necessary for? thanks for your answer!
Very scientific and understandable and practical. Your video was exactly what I needed...thanks.
Thank you Adam! I’m glad that you find them helpful!
I really appreciate these videos.
Thank you Victor!
Good video! 👍🏼
Well explained! 👌🏼
(From India) ☺️
Hey! I just discovered your videos and theyr fricking amazing! Science rules dude! Where can I find the PDF? Also, I would suggest to make the exercise example parts of video a bit longer!
I can’t find the kyphosis video you mentioned… is it coming? Super Interesting!!
I know it’s taking too long but it’s coming 🙂
So good content, thanks man. Even if i think it´s just logic what you explained. But the scientific aspect might make some people more aware. Keep going!
Thank you Christian for these kind words, I’ll do my best for the upcoming videos too!
Great videao was really help full thanks a lot!
Glad it helped!
How do I fix hyperkyphosis?
Where can I find that video? 2:41
you are brilliant! Thank you so much
posture is determined by the innervation of the musculature. nerve interference to a muscle produces two main effects, elongation and weakness. this is the cause of postural distortion. in the case of so-called forward neck distortion, the scalene anterior neck muscles are neurogenically weak causing the loss and possible reversal of the cervical lordotic curvature. neurogenic muscle weakness cannot be remedied by exercise, only by restoring full innervation by correcting the source of the nerve interference cause.
and what is the procedure for it. kindly explain
@@kamalansari5250 correction of the causal vertebral subluxation. the patient should be advised before adjustment they may experience some temporary discomfort in the neck as the neck muscles re-balance and pull the neck toward more normal alignment.
Outstanding advice, thank you!
This video needs script for subtitles and summary actions. It has valuable information
Very well explained! Glad i found this video! I have this condition too and i feel my upper traps soo tight. Any idea why is that?
this content is great, so profesional, so straight to solve a real problem, thank you so much
I think the pillow and in which posture you sleep also play some important role
yes that is right
1. The explanations are clear and well structured. They do not leave any questions unanswered.
2. The way the exercises are presented (especially with the red and green lines) is incredibly good. The camera angle is perfect, the movements clear and precise. Never seen that before.
3. The graphics are brilliant. Smooth, modern, just the right amount of information. They help a lot to understand everything.
And very importantly, no superfluous babble like others often do. Everything is to the point and professional.
I hope the exercises work for me!
Amazing video, keep up man
Thank you!
