    After having this camera for a few weeks now and knowing virtually nothing about photography, I'm really enjoying it! I go out in my backyard and take literally hundreds of pictures of EVERYTHING just so I can get used to it and change different settings to see how they affect the pictures. The app is awesome especially when taking moon pictures so you don't physically have to touch the shutter button an disrupt the camera. I'm starting to understand how ISO settings combined with the shutter speed lighten and darken photos, that was really throwing me off for a while. Also, I'm starting to think of fun stuff to shoot with the slow motion recording and it's so much fun! Thanks to you and everyone else who makes videos on this camera, it's extremely helpful to us beginners!

    Third times a charm....actually this was my third attempt to watch this, kept getting interrupted earlier in the week......I've tried to use the apps before to do some bird photography......found it a little awkward. Not so much the speed of the app when connected, but trying to keep both the camera and phone from going to sleep and breaking the connection......or a call or notification coming in which also breaks the connection (on the Canon app that is) and of course that always happens just at the moment a bird flies in to the shot. So I had an empathetic chuckle when you moved on from that!

    I have a Lumix 300 (330 in U.K.). I have been getting further away from birds using the zoom as needed, so as not to spook them, and experimenting with Topaz Denoise AI. Just have used it about a week now, but does seem to give you an extra stop (or two) of noise relief. Like a camera upgrade, almost, giving more latitude on ISO and shutter speed issues.

    • @AndrewWaltonPhotography
      @AndrewWaltonPhotography  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. I might have to look into Topaz as the FZ82 suffers with noise at higher ISOs. Your 300/330 also has an advantage over the FZ82 as the aperture stays nice and low no matter what the focal range is, sadly the FZ82 increases the aperture as you zoom in which is less than ideal but that's the price of the longer zoom.

This camera (lumix) is twice more expensive than my Canon. Is it worth money for me ? I mean will i see a difference and upgrade ? Or is it not worth to buy Lumix dz82 when j already have Canon Powershot sx510 hs ?

    • @AndrewWaltonPhotography

      A good point, I have no experience of your Canon, but it very much depends if you need to get closer to your subject. I see your Canon has zoom plus which I presume is a digital zoom. At full reach the zoom plus reaches the same distance as the FZ82 does optically. I hope this helps.

    Hi Andy and thanks for taking us out with you on a splendid morning to capture images of the birds and flora at the nature reserve. Some marvellous images there, especially of the mute swans in their various poses. I use my FZ82 predominantly for bird and flower photography and I can see that I still have a fair bit of learning to do if I'm to try to capture similar images to yours. I'm experimenting with Aperture priority mode but can't quite master the shutter speed depending on aperture size. I'll keep persevering though. Thanks again for some great photos on a lovely sunny day.🌞 Cheers. 👍

    • @AndrewWaltonPhotography
      @AndrewWaltonPhotography  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching Stephen. I find it is tricky to shoot moving subjects in aperture priority. That said the majority of these shots in the video were shot in aperture priority, if you look at some of the shutter speeds of these images the camera has selected some really low speeds. This does mean the 'hit rate' drops so prepare to take a load of images to get that good one. It is easier to shoot on burst mode or even easier 4k photo mode but 4k is only 8mpx so I rarely use it. Why have a camera rated at 18.1mpx and lower the resolution?

    The little birds are the worst. They live a life of terror and rarely sit still. Best to set a feeder in your own garden with a nice branch for them to sit on. Grab a branch from one of your walks and bring it back with you. Branches with lots of lichen and so on they love for some reason. You definitely got some good shots here, better than I managed with my FZ82. The best I got was a robin because they sit still for longer than a few microseconds.

    hello, without using tripid can this camera be still effective in terms of mid range zoom and picture quality?

    • @AndrewWaltonPhotography
      @AndrewWaltonPhotography  Год назад

      Picture quality won't rival a dslr, but the image stabilisation is very good, and you can hand hold for 600mm+ shots. It does get tricky at 900-1200mm, especially if the subject is distant. I mostly hand hold for wildlife/bird photography images as I find the tripod to be limiting in what I can shoot. If you already own a dslr or mirrorless camera, then I would buy a 600 mm lens. However, if you don't, then this camera and also the fz330 are very good value for bridge cameras.

      @Tatisha 4K The zoom is crazy by comparison to a smartphone. I have an s22, and whilst it is great at wide and regular shots, the zoom on the phone is easily eclipsed by a bridge camera. Even most compact travel zooms have much greater optical zooms.

      @@AndrewWaltonPhotography so if you have s22. please could you tell me which is better in photo quality and zoom?

    • @AndrewWaltonPhotography
      @AndrewWaltonPhotography  Год назад +1

      @Tatisha 4K for zoom, the fz82 wins hands down. I can take photos of birds in the trees that would be a tiny dot in the frame if I used a phone even with three lenses like the s22 has. The s22 has more modern processing software, so it does do a great job for wide shots. The fz82 can generate noise in its images over ISO 400. Samsung still has that strange 'squiggly' texture when you zoom into the images. There are pros and cons to each device but ultimately if you need a long zoom then the s22 can't do the job.

    Greetings. I was hoping to get your thoughts on selecting a lens...
    We have several feeders around the house, but I have a question regarding a lens for capturing photos of birds for a feeder that is attached to our window.
    I've been researching online, and I understand that a Canon 100-400 is great for walking around and finding birds that are a distance away.
    Since the birds are coming right up to our windows, I was thinking that a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro might work great for really close-up photos of the birds.
    Can I get your thoughts on whether this lens will work great for this condition.
    The lens will be used on a Canon 5dIII.
    Thank you in advance for your help.
    On a side note (but related), I am looking to get a used DSLR camera. I'm considering a used Canon 5dIII (since mine has been great), but figured I'd ask if there is another camera I should consider . It will be used for birding, night-sky, and wildlife photography.
    I'm open to other brands (i.e. Nikon). Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again!

      Hi ARK, I this video I was using a bridge camera to shoot with rather than a DSLR.
      I'm no expert on Canon cameras and lenses but lens wise normally I'd expect you'd be looking at something with a focal length of at least 300mm with something around 600mm being nearer the mark. With you birds coming in so close it is an unusual scenario.
      If you look at the bottom of my channel page I have listed some of my recommended channels. Dave at Lets Click Photography is very knowledgeable about Canon cameras so might be able to help you. Two other Channels worth looking at are Robert Bishop Photography and AJ Stoves Photography as both shoot Birds and Wildlife using Nikon Cameras. I hope this might help you in your quest for the perfect camera for bird photography.

      Thanks for watching Robert. The FZ82 is quite a good little camera, quality wise it isn't as good as a mirrorless or dslr but it's less than £300 new. Depending on your budget the others I'd look at are the FZ330 (it's weather sealed with a constant aperture of 2.8, and a 600mm zoom - in hindsight I might have bought this as it can use an external mic and has a fully articulating screen - handy for vlogging) and the FZ1000 (which has a 1 inch sensor). All these cameras can be used in auto modes so if your dad is just after more zoom and still use it like a point and shoot.
