    Great review. Now imagine it with 390whp/415ft-lbs, 6700rpm redline, intake/BOV noise, 35% shorter shifts, and a tasteful growl from the Cobb exhaust. That’s what I’ve done to my ‘22 Premium and it’s a downright excellent driving experience. Total cost $31k for the new car and $4k in mods. It does 0-60 in 3.5s! Just bonkers value.
    Edit 8 months later: My ‘22 WRX is at 25k miles now. I drive it like a WRX every day of the week. It hasn’t had a single issue, not even a small hiccup in performance or reliability, and there’s already people with >70k miles at this power level with zero issues. The FA24 is the truth.

    Just picked up a TR two weeks ago. After owning a 2022 for a year, the improvements (larger master brake cylinder, chassis stiffening, and retuned steering) are noticeable and very welcomed. While the infotainment can still be slow sometimes, it is much better than it was with the updates. Brilliant car in all aspects in my opinion.
    I had a base tune from Drunkmann on the 2022 as well. This car is an absolutely different animal with JUST a conservative OTS tune like DMann's OTS. No mods needed and its just enough to really wake the car up without pushing the motor or trans far at all.

    One thing I like about the controversial looks, and hate for lack of STI, is that it makes the WRX underrated. I drove my friend's 23 base, and it was such a mature lovely car. It feels a bit "older" than other new cars in a good way. The powerband is so linear, I was very impressed, after driving the GR Corolla where it felt a little peaky, and jerky on and off throttle. Videos show this WRX passing the previous STI in a roll, and the engine is understressed in the VB. This car punches way above its weight, just wish it was a hatch :)

    1) You can change the A/C button to recirculate if you want, but mine hasn't really used outside air (probably because of the heat and humidity in Central TX).
    2) The screen seems to "warm up" and is usually the slowest right after startup and when i haven't opened any menus. Once CarPlay/AA are loaded, you kind of forget about it.

    I really wanted to like the vb wrx. I even bought one hoping it would change my mind but I sold it after 6 months because I couldn’t get over the looks and the floaty steering feel. It felt more like a family commuter car other than a fun sports car. I even color matched the cladding and lowered it on Work wheels and I still couldn’t get over the looks of the car. To each their own tho.

    I've owned a 2004 STi and currently own a 2012 STi and can't believe the prices of WRX's are at STi prices. New WRX number are better? But when you discontinue the STi Suby I would have to guess feels forced to do more and bring the WRX closer to the STi. Not a fan of the plastic. Wheels are getting better though and brakes were a needed upgrade.
    Agree on the info-system super sluggish as well on our 2021 Outback.
    I feel as though Suby has squeezed everything out of the boxer they can and other automakers are passing them. Still iconic.

    I love my 2018 but I'm warming up to these. I think they look especially good in white with high contrast OR in gunmetal grey/black when the unpainted bits match. I think the WR Blue and most other colors look weird because the contrast is in the middle.

    I have the base. Its not going to drive any different, even with the larger wheels. Its got such a low heavy center. Eyesight is nice, but the base doesn't have blind side alert. You really don't need the harmon cardan or fog lights. Wish the base had push button start. Seat material is cheap.

  • @devinmartin3673
    @devinmartin3673 7 месяцев назад

    This video and Savagegeese's videos on the TR have convinced me that my next car after I want to move on from my black '20 WRX w/PP will be a TR. It does a better job of blending performance, fun, comfort, and year round utility than its competitors However, $43k is just too much when you consider the MSRP of a GRC Premium, the Type R, or the Golf R. In reality, though, there's no mark ups or waiting lists with WRX's, and Subaru even takes orders. I MIGHT be able to find a GRC at MSRP, I'd be lucky to get a Type R for $5k ADM, and the Golf R is impossible to find (and the 6MT is dead in '25). I'm sure I'll be able to find a TR sitting on a lot in 2025 and get it for 10% under MSRP. That's what makes the WRX the choice among its competitors. Kept stock (or close to it), these FA series motors are reliable, and the WRX just gets the job done in all conditions. It's a car that continues to be misunderstood - it is greater than the sum of its parts.

    When I was looking for a car in this class, I looked at the WRX. It was nice, but I wanted something with some stronger brakes. This TR solves that problem and adds a couple other nice tweaks, but the price is getting up there. I ended up with a Jetta GLI, and while it doesn't have the AWD it was about $10k less and gets far better fuel economy.

      @@tony2473 I was! I previously had a 2017 GTI Sport. I looked at the MK8 GTI also and was immediately turned off by the infotainment and touch controls everywhere. The GLI still has manual HVAC controls and physical switches (for things including sunroof, headlights). I thought I would miss the hatchback but the Jetta trunk is massive and still has the option for folding the seats down. Overall materials quality is a bit lower than the GTI I think, but that is reflected in the price too. The GLI was at least $5k less than comparably equipped GTI. The GTI is still probably the better canyon or weekend track/autocross car, but for everyday sporty driving the GLI is still great.
