Yoo dude, the clarity of your speech, the bright tone you bring, the good pacing and the well structured format with sweet transitions was honestly really refreshing to see and hear in a car review! I’ll be looking forward to your stuff bro! 😁🤙🏾
I absolutely love the GR86. The first car I bought, and I learned driving manual for a whole year (with RUclips and a racing simulator) to prepare for the car. It was the perfect introduction to enthusiast cars!
To me this is the greatest sports car ever made. Like a Cayman (The actual, best sports car ever made) but at a price where most people can afford it, that is what dreams are made of. The affordable sports car is such a spectacular thing, whether you like them small and delicate like the GR 86, MX-5 or big and powerful like a Mustang GT, to have something that delivers so much joy AND THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET TO OWN IT is so beautiful, this represents breaking free of the emptiness machine (i.e. having to buy 172748 cars to get a GT3 RS allocation or not being able to buy a new Ferrari despite having the money, you know, doing things you don't want just for the idea of owning something that is just a car at the end of the day, an awesome car, but just a car.) Great comparisons 👏🏽 I think some people don’t take in consideration the history of technology that progressed in the automotive industry over time. Vehicles became more efficient, faster, and more nimble. A common family car of the 90’s gets blown away by the average econobox of today. Regardless of the size of the engine or power, the formula of a good sports car remains the same. How it makes you feel by how it drives while delivering more smiles per gallon 🤙🏽
just test drove a 2024 brz and you are 100% right with the indicator. its off putting and it really makes you do a double take when it doesnts stay down i hope they swap it back in the future
These cars are absolutely awesome. Waiting for a Hakone allocation but I may end up going with the normal car with a Performance Package. I'm not sure what that green is going to end up looking like, I'll have to see it in person. One problem with a special edition is that it doesn't make sense to mod it and I think I'd like to put some lighter weight components on the car to lose 80-100lbs. If you've never driven one of these or BRZ try to find one a take a spin. Probably the best driving car until around 100k.
The "bothersome" turn signal stock is also something that would annoy the heck out of me! BMW do(did?) the same on their cars back in the 2010s (or something). Drove a 3-series back then and that was my main complain! Would not hesitate to get a GR86 though (even if I'm driving a manual MX-5 at the moment) just for the fun and engagement of the car!
Thanks for this review. I was inches away from trying to buy one but the space in the back seats and the cup holder location are big enough problems that I no longer want one. Maybe they'll change that in the 2025 model.
The cupholders I don’t think are wildly different from most cars in manual, there’s gotta be a shift knob in the middle after all. Edit: also if there IS any examples of otherwise, I would actually not mind being corrected, I’ve just always seen manuals with the cupholders like right at the elbow
This was an awesome video. I’m on the edge to buy one and this video has me pretty well sold. Wish you had talked a little bit about the different trims and approximate pricing. Otherwise, great video!
Nice review. I think the lower trim offers a lot of fun for the $$$. Not so appealing above $35K. I'm only annoyed by the aggressive gearing leading to poor fuel economy for a 2.4 liter 4cyl. Miata puts up comparable performance numbers w/ much better fuel economy if not too cramped for some.
Have a GR86, and I don't ever use it for long trips. The road noise is terrible and sadly the stock sound sound system is utterly terrible too and can't overcome the road noise. A bit of sound proofing in the door and new front speakers are a big improvement for just a few hundred bucks, but it should be better still honestly. Great fun otherwise, but fuel economy is also terrible due to such short gearing, 6th gear should be tuned more for economy. If you're not a die hard for a manual, a 2.0 supra is much better option honestly.
I also have GR86, and my other car is BMW diesel, maybe that’s why I not find road noise terrible. I’m surprised people think so. Regardless stock sounds system I switched it off. Now I can enjoy in driving without distractions.
The first car I bought myself was an 88 Celica turbo All-trac when I was 18. I stupidly traded it in a year later and regret that. Even though this is RWD, it seems to give me similar vibes and nostalgia to the turbo Celica that I miss. Now that all my kids are raised and it's just the wife and I, I'm looking at this since I don't need back seats anymore and it's a true manual! @MilesPerHr, I saw you carve up what looked like Live Oak Cyn Rd, (Or Modjeska?) I'm curious if you tossed this around some more serious back roads like CA-2, CA-33 or CA-39 and how it did? Ortega Hwy used to be fun, but the traffic levels are just too much nowadays.
So I think you are wrong about where to put your phone. Purchase a cheap wireless carplay adapter ($65) for your phone and then your phone can fit nicely in the slot in the armrest instead of putting it in the armrest cupholders. I have been using my BRZ this way for over a year.
