I typically prefer blue over a comparable green, but this particular one is gorgeous. I wish Mazda would focus on a dark green like this instead of the platinum quartz, zircon sand, and liquid copper metallic colors in their current lineup. Imagine this green on the MX-5 with its beige interior, or imagine it on the CX-5, the CX-50, the CX-70, the CX-90, the 3 with Mazda’s tan interior!
Definitely, buy a second hand BRZ tS and wrap it Hakone green just to fk with people. The gold Brembos fit the colour pallet better and additional badges/stickers will make it pretty convincing.

It's pretty nice special edition, the GR86 already brings a premium over the Subie, so I'm guessing they'll be looking for whatever they can get on these beauties. I'm sure somebody will get close to list but not in my neck of the woods.

This is crazy, as soon as I saw you, I could tell you got a haircut then you blew my mind saying Dallas Fort Worth, I was down there many years ago for a course ! I'm a barber of 30 yrs now and a car freak. Had a total blast while I was there ! Best steak I ever ate at a place called trail dust. Don't mean to bore you with that story but you blew me away. Bought my 2023 end of July. I’ve been honestly impressed by its design. The looks scream sports car and the handling is superb. The engine gives enough power to improve your overall driving skills. 9.5/10. They nailed it especially with factoring the price. Put on some sticky tires and suspension and you have a legit track weapon😎🙏🏽
Unfortunately Dallas Texas has become expensive & overcrowded due to the millions of people who've moved to Dallas from California, New York, New Jersey etc. over the past 10 years! Rent & house prices in certain areas have tripled!
Always been my favorite reviewer, never change man ! Looking at a 22’ gr86 right now, most of them are still 30k but that engine upgrade is worth it over previous years.
Whatcha know about Teddy Ruxpin? 😂 The GR86 line is a banger of a car for the price. A fun toss around, affordable sport car with a large upgrade path. Bang on as always with the overview Joe. 🖖🏼
I have the GR86's "sister" the Subaru BRZ and love the car. Note that the additional engine noise isn't actually piped in - its made up. The dealer can shut it off or you can permanently disable it by disconnecting the module in the dash. It was annoying enough that I didn't wait for the dealer to do it and disconnected the module myself (there are "how to" videos online).
I'm planning a GR86 for my 40th birthday and it's a shame that I haven't hit that age this year and get the Hakone Edition. I absolutely love it. I hope they come up with another edition along with some hardware upgrades for my sweet 40.

Unfortunately for me, I do not currently have the funds to buy this particular vehicle, especially when you factor in the dealer markups that are sure to come with this limited edition version. Yet, a GR86 is likely to be my next new vehicle eventually.

I have a deposit down too (in U.S.). I'm not even getting my hopes up and I'm first on the list for a 4 dealer group. There are 1,600 Toyota dealerships in U.S. and 860 cars with half being auto. That means only one 4 dealers will get a manual Hakone. That's ok though. I'm fine with a regular Premium with Perf package anyway.
@@bearclaw5115 Yeah that's rough, not to mention the markups at some dealers in the US are ridiculous... dealers aren't allowed to markup brand new vehicles in Canada, thankfully. There are 287 dealerships in Canada but I would say most of the Hakone cars will be hitting the bigger car cities like Vancouver or Toronto. I'm hoping they add the Perf package to the Canadian cars, they weren't available for 2024. If I don't snag a Hakone I'll probably opt for an entirely different car, I have a pretty big list of options.

Great review as always. I prefer a darker green like highland green (Ford) I still think it needs more power but at this point I'm just glad this is even offered . I just can't go back to a manual shift car. I got to be able to drink my coffee, like I do in my Lexus RX 350. If I want rider engagement I'm going to get on my Triumph motorcycle anyway. No drinks available on the motorcycle, great video. I am an ex 350Z owner. And I agree those gym bags are definitely full of roids.
I do dig the 86! Saw a black one recently in person and looks hella cool :) It's like the new Celica. I'm also very partial to the brown interior as that's what my old Audi baby was. It makes it nice and homey, very welcoming.
This car is now up on Toyota's website. Pricing is $36,405 delivered. Interestingly Toyota only raised the price of the GR86 $600-650 or about 2%. Subaru was more aggressive with the BRZ, charging $950 to $1,100 more for a 2025.
@@jjay718 I feel yah. I had a 2023 Hyundai Elantra N with the manual. Those are rated at 276hp and it just did not feel quick enough for me. Yes a tune would have fixed that since I would have put me over 300 wheel horsepower easily. But another gripe was I couldn't get over the looks. Very unique looking car but I didn't love it. The GR86 looks very good. I just wish it was powered by a Toyota power plant and not a Subaru motor.
Joe you gotta Zonk the Brembo brakes for not being Yellow / Zonk the fake vents in front of the doors / Zonk the Green color for not being dark or not enough metallic flake in the paint / Zonk for being a hardtop / Zonk for the Christmas colors / Zonk for the upside down oil filter / Zonk the 2865 pounds its a porker / Zonk the Bland interior / Zonk the exhaust infused speaker system ! 🤔
Folks over here who are envious at the rest of the world for getting the GR Yaris are sleeping on this great car. And this is far better looking than the Nissan Z by far. 20:30 And owners can always add more horsepower later on. Overall, an excellent review of an excellent car.
Working at Toyota during the final days of Scion, when the Scion iM came out, i always felt that was really a Corolla and that it would be cool if it developed into the real the new ae86. I feel like the actual Corolla hatchback with just gr86 badge would’ve been way better and truly compete with the type r. I understand companies make certain moves to save money, transitioning from scion frs ( Corolla wasn’t at the time thought of as the return of the gr86) Toyota cut corners and kept the frs. Even this gr86 is nice, I would appreciate it more if this car is dropped and development continues on the Corolla with more hp and focuses on its gr86 version more. Toyota let’s get back to the essence of true jdm.
I’m going to try to buy one of these. Love the car love the color love everything about it. I only buy Toyotas or Hondas so this is right up my alley. If I could afford a LC500 I’d get one of those but this is quite the consolation prize.
2020 86 Hakone Edition owner here... might have to pick up one of these to go with it. 😉 color is definitely different from my '20. more modern matte versus the British Racing Green look.

3,000 with a full grown man in it. Honestly not a bad looking car but the HP is still kinda lacking but it’s not bad. Easy to mod or build tbh.

This thing smacks of my old 1978 Nissan 280Z. Manual, fun, and the wheels won't fall apart! I'm not diggin' the green, though.
The paint reminds me of the old (British Racing Green) ! Really a nice touch locating all the engine accessories up top, easy to look at and get to .

Working at Toyota during the final days of Scion, when the Scion iM came out, i always felt that was really a Corolla and that it would be cool if it developed into the real the new ae86. I feel like the actual Corolla hatchback with just gr86 badge would’ve been way better and truly compete with the type r. I understand companies make certain moves to save money, transitioning from scion frs ( Corolla wasn’t at the time thought of as the return of the gr86) Toyota cut corners and kept the frs. Even this gr86 is nice, I would appreciate it more if this car is dropped and development continues on the Corolla with more hp and focuses on its gr86 version more. Toyota let’s get back to the essence of true jdm.
I’m going to try to buy one of these. Love the car love the color love everything about it. I only buy Toyotas or Hondas so this is right up my alley. If I could afford a LC500 I’d get one of those but this is quite the consolation prize.

They don't make this car in a matte white. Halo has a rainbow-y pearl flake to it. Looks great though!
