In October i went from the Hero+LCD to the Hero 5 and man oh man what an upgrade. Love the Hero 5!!
The S1 also comes with a HERO4/HERO5 Session mount. Will be nice to see some real life scenarios with the S1, most people do not use a Chesty and Helmet for walking/running.

Love your reviews Jeremy! Have you tried using the S1 with a Rode Videomicro? With the mic somehow attached to the handle/base, wondering if the cable to the camera would somehow interfere with gimbal operation?
and u for got to say on the hero 4 that button tool button also does the High light option on a video that you wanted to find faster when your watching or editing your videos

Great review! I guess it has not that much LIKEs because of the long duration. People spend their time frugally nowadays. I’ve seen many 5-7 minutes gimbal-reviewing videos and none of them (or even all of them together) was so overall and detailed as this particular video (reviewing one single gimbal). Author revealed the weak spots of the product (poor sound with GoPro 5 and motor noises with both GoPros), offered the solution (wireless mic) and tested its effectiveness. Bravo! But the review lacks comparison with competitors. Which is the best? Cons/pros? So, waiting for comparison with GoPro Karma and other gimbals (Osmo, Zhiyun, Evo, Snoppa, Aeon).
The audio was terrible, but so is the DJI Osmo without an external mic. But the video with the Hero 5, with the stabilization on was very good. But sometimes the GoPro cameras were doing some weird warping on objects that were close.
Hi Jeremy, thanx 4 this very comprehensive and helpful video. You showed at its best what's the S1 is all about. I ordered it this week and hope to have the Hero5 frame in the box. Maybe I'll order the extra mic next days. Have a fine start into 2017 - Whitey from Cologne/Germany

Thanks Heaps, such a shame the Hero5 picks up so much noise its an expensive product to buy and having noise there is a shame and puts me off. Dam had my heart set on this product.
+GameHuntingNZ Yeah I know :( Gotta give removu some props though. They've been working hard to put out a solid product for the already released HERO4 and 3's. They only had a small amount of time to get a mount created for the 5 to release with the S1. Maybe they can figure out how to reduce the noise on the HERO5 with some tweaks to the frame mount.
That review was very well done. I happened upon the Removu after getting really close to pulling the trigger on the Osmo+ No tech toy purchase decision is ever easy - arghhhh!

Hi! Very nice vidéo , it has a better explanation than the Removu vidéos , concerning the calibration theve put on yesterday. Waiting for my S1 and M1+A1 . This mic will fix the sound problem .I would like to know if you put the S1 on the end of a pole looking at you while skiing let say ? Will it be to heavy ?

Great video. I hate to pay the price of that Gimbal but it is a piece of equipment that i need when I go on a cruise to Alaska.

Nice factual video and well presented - thanks. That said, you skipped over one aspect of the S1 when used in combination with the GoPro Hero 4 Silver and the rainproof housing , and that relates to the orientation of the camera. You mentioned two options of either setting the orientation in the GoPro itself or alternatively using ones editing software. Whilst the latter certainly works, the former definitely doesn't and long searches on the web fails to throw up a solution to this problem either. Strangely enough, if you take a look at Removu's website that now features the S1 you'll see that even the company have posted a picture of the rainproof housing showing the GoPro mounted upside down so it would appear that even they haven't found a solution to this. Wonderful eh? :-)

Great job reviewing this. Just wondered if you'd managed to get an idea of likely battery life for the gimbal in real-world use yet? (The PR info suggests 3+ hours per battery / per charge - did that seem realistic?)
Cool video, man! In my opinion, just the fact that the Removu has user-replaceable batteries makes it 100x better than the GoPro Karma Stick! If and when my Feiyu-Tech craps out, I'll be replacing it with an S1 for sure!

Nice review. Thanks. Do you plan to make a review to Slick stabilizer when it will be available? It allow to use GoPro using standard boxes. But it will be released in March 2017, and already release date was moved twice. So, I think to buy Removu S1 for one cam, and for second - Slick when it will be released.

To be honest, the GP4 and GP5 sound similar on both tests. Clearly the remote joystick is not an option with either really. I have a GP5 and plan to get the Removu. I guess putting it in wind only mode and pan will be the best settings? Also, considering I will be using for snowboarding, I really don't think motor noise will be a big issue....your thoughts? ( i do intend to use the audio from the GP5) Having said all of this, I can't find any in stock here in the UK.

nice video thank you. I still now cannot decide between this and the karma grip. Looks like the audio will be messed up on both so an external mic will be needed for both so the question is which one gives the smoothest footage ??
if you had the gimbal motor on the left side and the gopro hero 5 was on the right side, the right way up, you would get rit of the motor noise, right? Just like the Karma grip. Why don't they just make a case where that´s possible? The only thing needed is moving the round connection thing to the other side of the case. Or a case with round connection things on each side. This way you could choose youself... Mind-boggling!

Thanks for the review! I have a cap mount for my Hero 5 Black and the mount base is on the forehead of the cap, (not the brim). I was wondering if there would be an issue mounting it on my cap mounted from the front of the cap instead of on top like a helmet mount. I don't know if the Removu S1 has a range of motion that would prohibit me from using it on my cap mount. Thanks in advance for your comments.
Loosen both screws on the Go Pro attachment and turn it 180°. That will make the gimbal stay flush to your body instead of in an angle.

You can't hear any noise from the motors with Follow mode. So just use that mode

The only other gimbal I've actually used is the Karma Grip. I've only tested that one minimally, and don't have it anymore. With the quick test I did with the Saramonic, the only time the motor noise was picked up was when using the joy stick.

When I initiated mine, it started vibrating like crazy, and making noise like vibrate mode on a cell phone. Is this just a lemon? I'm exchanging either way.

If you guys have hero 5 simply don't buy this gimbal because you can't get rid of that noise even with the latest updates and camera set to wind only , I buyed s1 2 days ago and I'm returning it.
All gimbals have this problem, so far from what I tested the REMOVU S1 with the latest firmware update has the best audio quality. That is not counting the GoPro Karma grip.
just a little external mic you will get much better audio and they come with a cover that helps reduce wind alot

Wind mode is very good. What firmware do you have in Hero5?
Is there a solution to adding an aluminum case which has a cold shoe mount for adding lights and /or mic (with the GoPro mic adapter) and lastly an external battery?
Had a S1, very noisy housing broke in a day 😩😩😩 not good at all
If I'm trail running (i.e. Adventure Trail Running) is the picture still smooth or still a bit jumpy? There's a lot of up/down vertical movement as you run.
