Thank you for sharing these tips. As someone else said, the camera IS waterproof to 10m without the front lens cover, but it will not focus without that flat piece of glass (thanks to the physics of optics).
Hi Mr. Air ! First I’d like to say I’m 65 1/2 yrs old. My beloved relatives bought this cam for me for a Christmas present in 2019. I’ve taken tons of pics / vids . That door that has the usb charger slot popped off and I couldn’t get it back on for almost 4 months. I live in central Florida so,it rains here almost every day. I was terrified that I would get water inside . For months and months I’ve been trying to cram , push ,.. force that door back so I could use it outside. THANKS To YOU ! I was able to get it back on !!! Today is fri. Jul 3 2020. Your my GoPro HERO ! Thank you! Happy 4th. Of July !!!
Great tips, Just a comment on 4:23 I have accidentally left the door off the Gopro 5 Black and dove into a fresh water lake (was under maybe 5 seconds) The camera did stop working but I pulled out the battery and SD card, shook it to get as much water out as possible straight away. Left them to dry for a couple of hours in the sun. Then put the camera, battery and SD card next to a hair dryer for about an hour on a warm setting and the camera is working fine. The battery drains a bit quicker now and the SD card still works (although the footage on it when submersed is gone) BUT just a heads up, the camera can still be saved :)
Throw a bunch of /dry/ rice into something dunked like that. Or surround the device with dry rice, as long as it gets down inside the device. Blow out what water you can first. Leave the rice in for at least several hours or, better, overnight. Rice absorbs moisture very nicely and you have a good meal afterward. Kidding about the meal - who likes cold rice? Seriously, rice is a very good "rescue" desiccant.
the little pacs that come with shoes and such work even better than rice, I save them any time we get anything that has them.need fewer and easier to keep some in a zip lock baggie in the glove box.
@@AirPhotography Hello! Thank you for the great video. My GoPro Hero 5 screen is not working. Is there a way to access all the settings via LCD? I can only access 4 sets of settings, photo camera, video camera, photos and timer (?). I am hoping I could connect my Go Pro to Go Pro app, but that only can be done via accessing some settings. Is there a way to access these settings? Thank you.
Thank you!!!!!! I haven't been able to put that charging cap back on since day one I took it off which was almost two years ago. BUT I PUT IT BACK ON TODAY!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! I"M WHOLE NOW
This video was all worth it just on the tip on how to get that side door back on that covers the USB port. SOB, I thought I had broken the housing the first day. Thanks All Photography.
Just received my hero 5 black today. Thanks so much for the tips. videos well done and easy to follow. Sound is great. will be looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for the tips. I didn't realize I could remove the door, that's SO useful, and a feature I really missed about my hero 4. Got any tips for preventing handling noise from transmitting to the hero 5? Most of my audio is unusable if I'm touching the mount it's connected to. My hero 4 never had that problem. I've tried switching the audio between wind reduction and stereo, but it's still awful. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, I really miss my hero 4 now.
+The More We Explore yes I have read on many different forums that that is a common issue. For the most part the only way to stop that is with an external mike. I have not tried it personally but you can go into settings and play around with the audio settings maybe that will make a difference
+Patrick Hayes yes that is one of my favourite features on the new go pro. If you're heading to the beach for the day you don't have to worry about lugging a lot of extra equipment around
Great Review! I just got one and had trouble figuring it out (i.e. the force required to open the doors and take them off)I didn't want to break it😉. Thanks for the help.
Great job! Your video did not have a long prelude. Your video and audio quality is good. Your TIPS and content are JUST what I was looking for "Tips and Tricks" THANK YOU! I liked the front LCD tip and the battery saver the most but ALL were helpful. Thank you [edit] The detailed tip on putting the door back on --- VERY NICE TOUCH! Good to know [/edit]
Do not know your name, but you are the best instructor on Hero 5 black I have found on this site. I do have a few questions; Do you have to reset the date and time every time you change the battery? Also, I think you said that if you powered the cam off, you could start it to recording again by pressing the power on button at the top and then it would go back to power off. Is this right? Also do other settings stay the way you left them when you change batteries (FPM, Resolution and so forth? Like I said, "yours is the best yet as you go slow and explain it just right". I will come back to your site all the time now. I think you would recommend it but is the 1080 at 60 what you would use for jeep roads/trails and if I want to play a tune and describe things on the trail, do I leave the voice on or off or does the cam auto record things like that? Thanks.
I spoke to GoPro about removing the lens cover due to fog and they told me it is safe to use without it underwater, but just in care I am keeping a copy of the email
+Faldoable The wireless connection just allows you to connect to remotes like the smart remote or the new remo remote. In addition it also allows you to connect to the Capture app on your smart phone. Disabling it will not change the function of the camera whatsoever and can be turn back on at any time to allow you to connect to your phone or a remote
I was wondering about the lcd screen and the area around it. I just got my gopro hero 5 black and I noticed that there is a lot of irregularities around the lcd screen. I am specifically talking about the very thin space between the lcd screen and the plastic housing. In the depression on top and bottom I see a lot of these little irregularities that look like the plastic it attaches to is not flat and even like it probably should be. Anyone else seeing this on theirs?
I didn't use much force in opening the side door and removing it the exact same way you did but on the first go it went fine but the piece that holds to the railing broke off in half. I find it a little silly but non the less i had no choice but to buy more.
Air Photography Would be really practical. Imagine being in your car on a roadtrip, you tell the camera to start recording for an interesting stretch of the road, and then stop it when you stop the car eventually, while profiting from the longer battery-life without voice-commands. But then again, I doubt that voice-commands work with the noise of the engine in the backround.
+Max S. I think that could be achieved using the remo remote. It's a voice command remote for the go Pro and I could hear your voice commands from within the cabin of the vehicle
Anything breakable from multiple remove/install of the lens? Clicking sounds kinda freak me out. Perhaps for bat saving, turn off sounds and all LEDs also - perhaps won't do much but every juice saved is priceless.
+Lnb N i've had mine off several times with no issues. It is designed to come off to be compatible with some of the go Pro accessories. So it should be capable of multiple removals without affecting anything
+Lnb N I have been running some tests and I find the go Pro with all of the features and services running drainss about 4 to 5% of the battery every 24 hours from the camera is powered off. As for anything breaking removing the lens I can't say 100% for sure I have had mine off numerous times and I assume go pro would've done they're quality testing for that scenario considering some of their accessories require removal of the lens but who knows ;)
Yeah it can be a pain. You can turn off some of the services. I have a video in my channel called battery saving tips and give some information on what to turn off to help slow down battery drain
or put in in a vice. :-) hey does that dive suit can go either way? that power pack is so handy, can get for 25$ at COSTCO. display has bigger font size now, awesome.
Once you remove the protective filter the O-ring should replace it with a new one to ensure that it remains waterproof, I think they are one time removable only.
With the design it can be removed multiple times. It was designed like this because some of the go pro accessories such as the super suit you must remove the lens before it will fit in the casing.
Its a great little device, but if you're using it for rough sports, I recommend getting gopro's protection and dive housing. It usually dents around the lens area.
My GoPro hero 5 black says connectivity not connect and when I scroll down to turn off wifi there is no such thing .... Apart from that your vid was very helpfull for this newby

+Patrick Hayes yes that is one of my favourite features on the new go pro. If you're heading to the beach for the day you don't have to worry about lugging a lot of extra equipment around
it is not really. some people got water damage with gopro 5 and 6. there are still waterproof case for gopro 5 6 7. so under condition.
Just got my 1st GoPro and I enjoy learning these tricks!!! Thank you
+Rafael Hernandez you're welcome I'm glad you found them useful :)

Can the hero5 black be used by having the usb c cable plugged in but not having a battery in the gopro itself? Like for use in a car
Can you do a video on using your tv to view your videos from the hero 5? Seems to be a pain in the ass.
Thanks for sharing these helpful tips.

Thanks for sharing very helpful. But tip number 1 scared the hell out of me
You can use the voice command “GoPro turn on” when it’s off, so that would be why it drains the battery when voice commands are turned on.
This is great! I learned new tips for my GP5. Thanks a ton!

Its a great little device, but if you're using it for rough sports, I recommend getting gopro's protection and dive housing. It usually dents around the lens area.

Hi , thank you for the video and for this very interesting advice , i want to ask you , there is a lot of brand of batteries on the market for a GoPro Hero 5, I'm not talking about the brand Gopro, I'm talking about other brands of batteries like Probty, Wasabi, Telesin, my problem is with the dimensions of the battery, length, width, height of the battery, which brand do you advise me to buy ? could I know the dimensions of the original battery of the GoPro , i mean length, width, height , thanks
