- Removu S1 is a 3-axis gimbal for GoPro Hero 3, 3+, 4, 5, and Session cameras! The S1 can be mounted anywhere a GoPro can be mounted. The whole time I'm watching this...I keep screaming...."WHAAAAT?!?!?!" whenever they bring up another amazing function that the creators thought of. This is amazing. Every other company out there needs to take a look at this. Everything in the box. No need to buy additional accessories.
I just received mine after a very long period of development. I am seriously impressed. This thing kicks butt. I too thought the company had gone away and asked for a refund over a year ago. Thankfully they didn't see the email, and I now own the best gimble system out there. I currently own a Feiyu 4GS and the immediate result is that the S1 kicks it's butt.

How is the gimbal, still ok?
David Tilbury Still think it's great. Been skiing with it all season. Wear it on my helmet. It's a little heavy but the video stabilization more then makes up for that. You could get a chest mount too.

Great review. As you mentioned, they really put some thought into this one. Unfortunately I bought the Feiyu Tech G4 6 months ago...works fine, but the versatility of this unit would cover all my needs.

Great review. I am very impressed with the quality and versatility of the S1. It was so worth the wait. Removu really thought of everything and I do believe that the Removu S1 is the "Most Versatile Gimbal in the World." I am waiting for the Hero5 case but it works and looks great on my Hero4 Black. Best thing is, Removu did not skimp out on quality or features. Thank you Removu! :)
I am so impressed by removu, compared tot the cheaper Feiyu tech G5, its a pretty big difference
I was going to get that, know this video has changed my mind to get the removu!
I got mine last mth via Indiegogo for my Hero4. The functions are great and with good finishing. The remote controller feature is unique and I love it! But it comes with 1 battery so I need to purchase the 2-battery pack at the same time. Nonetheless, it is a great product and no lies in the campaign (when I was cheated by other campaigns before!). Good work!
Thanks for the review. It seems to have all the features. Having just been on holiday and used my GoPro on a segway, I am disappointed at the video because of the jerkiness. A gimbal is a must have these days.

Seems well engineered. Pretty impressive feature set. I like that it is water resistant and the camera is mounted with a twist lock. Is it bad that I am concerned it looks UGLY as heck to me, like designed in 1989 ugly? I would need something that has the 360 Pan motor though. I don't like having to turn the handle around to point it at myself.
Support for the Yi 4k would be awesome!

Thanks for this review I was on the point of ordering the Karma grip when I seen your video , changed my mind and placed an order for for the Removu S1 instead , it will be here tomorrow :-) I have other Removu products incl the remote screen you can wear on your wrist , never had any problems with the removu products , hopefully this will be the same quality as the rest .
So how did you get on with the Removu S1
Out of all the wearble gimbles out right now I think this is the one I will get , WG2, EVO SS ...This has to be the winner

So if You have other cameras than GoPro You can't use it because of mounting adapter that covers buton on left top of camera :(
ifti, another amazing review--thank you! I always enjoy your work and appreciate the comprehensive coverage. I know you've answered other gimbal comparison questions already, but I want to touch more on versatility: how do you compare the Zhiyun Crane-M with the S1? Both seem extremely versatile, but the Crane-M can handle mirrorless cameras, smartphones, and the GoPro (all of which I own). Apart from the water resistant build, are there other areas where the S1 prevails over the Crane-M? I'm particularly interested in build quality and ruggedness/durability. Thanks.
The Crane-M is a great piece of kit! I guess it comes down to your uses. Both have remote support via a remote and both are smooth in operation.
Do you need to mount other cameras?
Do you need the splash proof abilities of the S1?
Do you need to mount the gimbal to other items etc?
The S1 is certainly the most versatile (and cheaper) of the two. Although if you want to mount mirrorless cameras then the Crane-M is the obvious choice. Otherwise I'd go with the Removu!

Thanks for this review. Looks very good and like you say some advantages over other gimbals. Not sure what the price in Europe in euros will be. How is the delay when turning/twisting the gimbal. I'm used to the old Steadicam JR + Gopro Hero 3+ where no delay is there when you do this. Does it react fast enough to make sudden moves/turns?
out of all the Gimbals you have reviewed, which would you recommend? I have a Hero4 and in the market for a Gimbal. Can you use an external mic such as the Saramonic? Thanks...great review!

To Make it follow The magnetic poles of the earth N-S-E-W.
That Would make you be able to really forget the tech and use the extender arm as a much longer hiking MErlin Stick or even better a Samurai Stick.
Great gimbal, but could this mount on a chest mount or is it just going to face the rider?
GoProTrailRider - mount on chest then use the remote to re-angle the camera into the correct direction 😉

Best gopro gimbal on the planet
Thumb joystick’s hard edges and pips feel uncomfortable to my finger tips and it does not control tilt when in pan-mode (e.g. would be useful when climbing up/down a hill).
It's rainproof, but will it survive if you fall into the water with say like rafting? Or if you go swimming and it's momentarily submerged?
This makes the LanParte I just purchased --and can't use because it does not have a GoPro Session mount-- a piece of crap.
I am impressed with your detailed review and the reviewed product! So moch more versittale than the Feisu TechnGimval! Will there be more modes via the updates i would like touse it for mounting it on my motorcycle tAnk and compensate leaning angle of the forward axis but not the two other axis possible!?

Advertised as Rainproof but when you buy it you get a warning card inside telling not to use it in the rain or snow for more than 10 minutes otherwise you risk ruining the motors and unit. 10 minutes?..... Don't know about you but it rains everyday where I live so 10 minutes of water resistance is disappointing.
can you hear the gimble working when using it and recording the audio on the GOPRO need answer fast want to buy one but dont want the motor noise's
Apparently, the new firmware update has improved the noise issues and also micro-jitter issues. Due out in the next 1-2 weeks
RD Radiators I always turn off my GoPro wifi and that helps a little
RD Radiators no the motor is relly light so there is barley no motor noise

How does this one compare with the feiyu G5 in your opinion? Wanna purchase a gimbal latest. So confused! The gopro Karma seems worse as the tilt issue and battery life....Plz give some suggestion. Nice video btw.
Great review Ifti,I do however would like your thoughts about how the Removu S1 stacks up against the other 3 axis Gimbals such as the Feiyu G4,EVO Gimbals EVO GP, or the DJI Osmos which I know the Osmos already has its own camera but is still a 3 axis gimbal..
To be fair they all work very similarly. All have great quality, silent, smooth motors and all create pretty much the same end result. Hence we need to consider versatility. I, for one, would rather have a unit I can do more with - mount to different objects, control remotely as well as in the standard handgrip design etc. Nowadays, versatility is key! Yes, its nothing new, but the wireless bluetooth, low power, remote, the build quality, and the overall robustness of the S1 really sets it out from the rest.
In my opinion of course! ;o)

Seems incredibly promising. Is there a way to manually calibrate if auto fails? Is there customization in the speed of the pan and tilt? Do they have bluetooth compatability with an app such as the new feiyu G5? How do you accomplish firmware updates?
Theres no app for it just yet, but firmware updates can be applied via the MicroUSB port built into the unit

Is there a possibility to mount an external microphone to the gimbal and a Hero 5? Giving up the GoPro mount for the micophone limits the gimbal being not wearable in combination with a microphone (and dead cat). The Removu mic only works with the Hero 4.
well.. the frame for hero 5 make the usb port not accessible. can't use mic adapter with this gimbal.

Hello is what you could do comparison with karma grip? Indeed according to some users having had the 2, it would seem that the karma has a better stabilization (especially when one runs) sorry for the english im french
There are some errors in this video - it doesn't come with two batteries (one only) and it doesn't come with a frame for the Hero 5.
It came with two batteries depending on which kickstarter campaign you went with. The video also mentions that the Hero 5 frame will be available as a separate purchase - not that it is included with the package.
However, when available, Removu will be supplying different packages - one of the Hero 3/4 camera, and a package for the Hero5 camera - so you can choose which package to purchase. The extra battery will also be a package you can purchase.

Pairs well with GoPro, unfortunately not everybody uses GoPro action cameras. Price is too high also even though it is designed and manufactured well.

Your choice is correct!! :) Karma grip has a couple of fatal problem... the biggest problem is that its battery is not replaceable while GoPro consumes Karma's battery.

Agree, but the Removu S1 has been in development for quite some time and they seem to have the kinks all worked out. I can see some minor firmware updates here and there, but cant see a version 2 for a while yet.....

i am a backer and i have discovered a problem with the gimbal. when you use the hero 5 you get audio noise but not on the hero 4 black. i also tested with video stab, off. i still get it. damn disappointing if you ask me!!!
The noise of Hero5 is because it's waterproof structure and Hero5 amplify the sound. You can remove the noise by setting Hero5 mic at "Windy Only" mode. Try it! :)
Also, the new firmware update due out in a couple of weeks fixes the noise issue and as well as the micro-jitters issue that some users were experiencing!
I've heard complaints about micro shake with the Removu s1. Is that a real and ongoing problem? That would be my only hesitation in buying the Removu S1 Thanks for your response.
I've had two units now. The first was spot on, but I have to admit with the second (more recent) unit I did have to apply some stabilisation in post via my editor - Have another video coming soon with the second unit in use....
New firmware update due out in a week or 2 - fixes jitters, noise issues etc
what's a good gimbal for panning time lapse?
If i want to mount it on a Chestmount, wich adapters do i nned? It lokks like that the mount of the gimbal is on the front facing side so i have to work with many adapters?!

2 years later, but yes, it works with both, as they have the same size. It does not work with the 8, 9 or 10.

You can use REMOVU M1+A1(bluetooth microphone for GoPro) with S1.

I have a friend who has a UoPlay and his only CON is that you still get the up&down motion when walking. I couldn't tell from your video but how well does the Removu work what hand held and walking?
All gimbals will suffer from this due to the lack of a 4th axis to counteract the up down motion. It's down to a change in waking style. Slightly bending your legs as you walk helps.

There are some micro jitter effects / shaky footage with the S1. Are there any information of a firmware update that solve this problem?

if you want it mountable or wearable get the feiyu tech wg but if you are only using it handheld get the fey tech g4

Its the best Ive tested in terms of versatility, build quality, and overall performance. A few tweaks in stability required when used with the Hero 5 (which will hopefully come with a firmware update soon) but even so its my Gimbal of choice at the moment!
