I respectfully disagree but maybe I'm wrong. F1 was my favorite sport from 93-2009. Perhaps in the 80's F1 was the hardest sport but I don't know. Hamilton said on Top Gear that in the 80s you had to be crazy and have to have more respect for the guys that did it back then. The cars weren't as fast through the corners as modern F1 but they were much harder to drive and more dangerous. Manual gearbox, little downforce, little in the way of safety. Back then, F1 was about mechanics and driver's skill. Today it's more about the ECU and extreme aero. The cars are computers today. For a while now, I would say MMA is the hardest sport. Watch Sports Scientist Andy Galpin test Conor McGregor. He said Conor is elite of the elite in terms of athletics. Same goes for many other MMA fighters. MMA is blood, sweat, tears, injuries, inches & miliseconds in a game of physical combat chess. The mental strength and toll it takes to step into a cage and fight an elite trained killer in front of thousands in the arena and millions on TV. Fighters take loses so hard. The highest of highs and lowest of lows. Lots of MMA documentaries I'd recommend but this one is really good.

In the sense of hitting speeds of 230 mph at places like mugello and having the confidence to smash the brakes at those speeds and go from 220 to 40 on 2 wheels in a matter of a couple hundred meters. I totally get the G force aspect of your argument. I do admire Moto GP and a number of Moto GP champions have made a successful switch to F1 such as theGreat Mike Hailwood.
However one can not ignore the G force factor and the fact that cornering is so much faster in a F1 car. I long for the days when a F1 race had to be a minimum of 200 miles in length or 2 hours in duration whichever came first. There were no pit stops ! The car was fueled-up and you stopped after the checkered flag. It were not uncommon for a lap record to be set during a race ! That is faster than in Qualifying!!!

It used to be majority of the talent. And then I've seen a photo compilation of this f1 paddock photographer (kymilman or smth similar is his name on insta) about the fathers of current f1 drivers. And I might be wrong, but apart from Seb's, Lewis' and maybe Valterri's fathers, the rest of the grid's fathers were all businessmen of some sort. Some were bigger, some were smaller, some had driver parents (Jos, Carlos, Jan), but all of them either had a fair bit of money or had other channels to bring their kids into f1. So yeah, money these days plays the biggest role. Of course, you still need immense talent to be in f1, but if you're next Lewis or Michael, but don't have rich and/or famous parents - sorry bby, you ain't gonna drive in f1. And it is quite sad :/

In most sports if someone is on your team you can count on his/her help to win, but in F1 your teammate is actually your fiercest rival and the person you will always be compared to. So all in all F1 is and isn't a team sport at the same time

Most motorsports are like that, not just F1. Also, cycling has this as well. Plus football, where there are several players for the same positions.
Maybe it is not fair to just compare 2 of the dozens teammembers of 1 team (the pitcrew, including mechanics, engineers and stratetists) to other sports. Watch a pitstop by the RedBull team and you will know. 4 new wheels in less then 2 seconds. Teams win or lose races with pitstops. As with choice of tyres.

I unfortunately can't really tell for other motorsports because I don't have the opportunity to watch them, so yeah I didn't consider that. What I meant to say is that the direct comparison with your teammate in F1 can "make or break" your carreer and that adds a lot of pressure to an already really demanding sport. What makes Formula 1 so difficult is not only about the car, hybrid technologies, the racecraft and so on. It's a lot more. What these non-F1 viewers don't see is what happen off the track. These drivers also make plenty of sacrifices, even just to earn one of these 20 seats, from their time far from their family, insane amount of physical and mental fitness they work on, the amount of money that they spent on their career, and even the level of competition they went through in junior formulas, and if they stumble on a gold mine, recruited by the Young Driver academies from either Red Bull, Ferrari even Mercedes. Which these are the reason I give them props for what they've been through. Thank You for this video :) * And also the danger elements, I almost tossed it away.

I think that with the added pressure of the vast amounts of money involved, yes F1 is the hardest sport in the world. But that aside, MotoGP would be one step above F1 and the WRC would be one step above that. WRC is truly insane. Can you imagine driving at the absolute limit for 200 miles over three days, along tree or cliff lined stages, covered in loose gravel or snow, with the smallest mistake sending you in to a huge life threatening accident at any moment?! By far the most under appreciated sport.

you have good arguments. But you can take any of those points and argue that MotoGP is more extreme.
    1. Physically even though the cornering forces aren't as high the riders have to muscle the bike around with their muscles wich can mead to arm pump etc. and their weight is even more important than in f1.
    2. in MotoGP the field is so tight that riders are in a fight for position with usually multiple competitors for the entire race distance and need to be very carefull about when to overtake and how and when to use the tires. In that they aren't aided via radio in F1 where your engineer can keep you informed about your rivals and help with decisions. MotoGP riders only have pitboards wich usually tell them gaps in front and behind.
    3. I think its not hard to explain why the danger factor in a sport where you reach similar sometimes higher top speeds than in F1 but without the safety cell is much higher. When you crash in MotoGP youre on the ground at brakeneck speeds and need to look out not to be hit by your own bike. Riders are injured regularly.
    4. Competition in MotoGP is comparable to F1 there are a few more seats available and the money needed to get there is not as much but when you make it to a top team in F1 youre pretty much guaranteed to finish most races on the top part of the grid get a few podiums and if you perform good you might get a win. If you sit in a merc even a mediocre driver for the high expectations of f1 can win. In MotoGP the customer Teams usually run the same equipment as factory teams. The result of a race is much more down to the driver. In the 2019 season multiple World champion Jorge Lorenz proved that by not getting a single Top 10 result on the same bike that Marc Marquez showed a never before seen dominance. Out of 19 races 12 Wins 6 second places and 1 DNF crashing in the lead due to technical problems. Also the 2020 season showed that nearly all Manufacturers are win capable. In the absence of the champion (due to being injured-> point 3) there was a hard battle for all the championships by multiple manufacturers with a unpredictable outcome
q.e.d. MotoGP is the hardest sport in the world

You just can not wrap your head around cornering at 5 Gs ! Thats why F1 cars are about 30 seconds faster per lap than a bike.
Look I love bikes, I raced road bicycles in my youth and had a number of fast motorcycles but a F1 car is from another planet and the handful of Men who are gifted enough to race them are without a doubt a notch above all others in this great world of Motor Racing.

I think big motorsports are certainly the toughest sports on average, but I’m unsure if F1 is the hardest. You can watch Group B Rally or Isle of Man TT and see that everything you just described is even tougher in terms of risk to self, so the question becomes, which of your 4 reasons you outlined is the most tough aspect?
It’s certainly easier to get into Isle Of Man TT, but it’s FAR more deadly, and yet requires less of a peak physical fitness (no offence John McGuinness lol) where you can still be a huge success without being young and in absolute peak physical form.. At the same time there is less pressure in the riders in terms of from their team (not as much development goes into their bikes as MotoGP or certainly not as much as F1), but the pressure during overtaking slower riders during the TT without killing both of you must be OVERWHELMING..

Road cycling in particular, in an event like Tour de france, they cycle through steep mountains in a brutal pace, The average distance they cover per stage is around 250km and it lasts for 3 weeks and at the end of the event they cover around 3500km it's like the half of the entire season in F1 and not just that there are lots of events like that throughout the entire season of Pro cycling. Talking about dangers? Well Pro cyclist only had a thin piece of clothing and helmet that only protects the top of their heads, unlike F1, where the car itself is like a body armor of its driver. Crashing in F1 at 300 kmh is less likely to cause any physical harm to the driver, like we often see, while crashing in a Road bike at 50 kmh especially on decents is a guaranteed nasty road rash, broken bones and a high chance of faitality.

Yes, I consider ALL motor racing sports to be among the most challenging, specialized and dangerous around, no to mention how "lucky" you must be to ever make a living out of it as a pro. It takes talent first, then it takes lots of practice years, training, experience, patience, money of your own, someone who notices you and even politics to achieve the highest levels. Motorsports are definitely underrated as the hardest sports in the world.

Bruh dont be that guy thats like, my sport is the hardest sport in the world an shit, all sports are hard in thier own way, its not harder than basketball mma boxing etc. , infact this is one of the few sports where the "players" actually get bored. Eg. Max verstappen getting bored in car more than a few times this season

I would make a vouch for Stage Rallying being a more difficult sport in the world. While yes, the speeds are overall lower, the risk factor and the potential for massive accidents are much higher because you are racing from point-to-point *on public roads, more often than not through thick woodlands or sheer cliffs,* often on tarmac in poor condition or outright on gravel or snow & ice. Since there is practically no run-off and the barriers aren't built to withstand speeds over 100mph, unlike most dedicated racing circuits, and the cars themselves accelerate 0-60 faster than almost anything below Endurance Prototypes and Junior Formulae in the top class of World Rally Car, the drivers need a navigator to relay the route information 2 to 3 corners ahead of time via their pacenotes to mitigate any potential mistakes and dangers, and even then rallying is notorious for curveballs beyond practically any other racing championship due to the limited safety features, fans getting potentially too overzealous, or even local farm & wildlife entering the path of the drivers.

Long distance running is the hardest 'sport' imo. In motorsport...24 hour le mans puts more strain on a drivers body compared to F1

I would agree that F1 is right up there for the hardest sport. I've raced MTB, road bikes, rowing, short track speed skating and dirt bikes .....all pretty hard too. Lately I've ventured into very technical enduro, and that is the hardest. It could be that I'm old now, but I couldn't imagine how hard, a hard enduro race like Erzburg would be like. Those guys are animals! My vote is hard enduro for the hardest sport.

Motogp and motocross are the hardest hands down. One experiences g force and has to hold on to a bike while having no protection while the other is being put through hell while going 50mph through a track or more while dealing with blunt force and has basically no gear for the huge jumps and Stampede behind of treaded heavy bikes.

I have a lot of respect for F1 drivers. They are legit athletes. But what are they really risking in today's F1? Sure, the potential for serious injury or death is still there, but compared to decades ago, it's miniscule. Also, the accidents that can cause serious injury or death are an indirect consequence of what they do. As opposed to combat sports like boxing or MMA, where hurting someone, causing injury, or unfortunately even killing them is a direct consequence of what they do. To me, even modern day combat sports with all its rules to keep fighters safe (rightfully so) is still not as hard core as something like free soloing. Imagine being in a sport where you know for sure any minor mistake can lead to your death. That's a different kind of pressure to worry about and takes someone truly special to do that regularly. That's why I think someone like Alex Honnold is a badass. The price of him screwing up is a lot graver than a modern day F1 driver not succeeding in a high speed overtake attempt.

It's extremely hard but not the hardest. What it is, is the MOST POLITICAL sport. It matters as much your talent and your ability to generate money or to provide money. It also matters enormously the nationality you have and the following you have. You have to be both Driver and Brand.

    6gs every Corner
Loosing 4-7 kg of weight per race (1.5hr)
Loosing 3-5 litre of water per race(1.5hr)
    Cockpit temperature : 40-60 degree C
    Crash impact : dea….(hope not) , serious injury , or 50+ Gs
And it takes balls to drive around a corner at 350+ Km/hr .

Pre 2014 I loved F1 since around late 80’s early 90’s... but that’s changed, it’s not the spectacle it used to be but that’s another discussion. As for the point in the video I agree that it’s physically demanding and mentally tough but anything more than that and you have to discount an immense amount of other motorsports. It’s very rare we see F1 drivers in tears at the sheer toughness of the task ahead like in the Dakar rally & it’s rarer that someone looses their life like in the Isle of Man TT that happens every year it is run. Unfortunately the modern day F1 fan is purely that : a fan of F1, which is a shame because most are blinkered to all the other fantastic motorsports which offer way more of a viewing spectacle than the current top formula... each to their own I guess.
