What if we don’t have the current registration of the vehicle but we have the title & bill of sale ? It’s a Arizona plate truck and I’m trying to register in CA
Not a problem. Each state doesn’t care about the other state’s registration status.
If the vehicle is a car does it need to be weighed? Where do I get the VIN verification form and the application for title?
Cars do not need to be weighed. The DMV or your registration service has all the documents you need, they fill out the vin verification, you fill out the app for title, but it’s only 1 page and super easy. Fill it out while you wait.

My son and I live in Oregon and he got me a 2021 Tacoma back then and it was a gift to me. I’m moving to California and I’m afraid how I’m suppose to report this or document this at DMV. I do have the title with my name so I own it out right.
Would I have to pay a lot of it’s gifted to me? I’m afraid that they will charge me a lot which I’m on SSDI and afraid that I won’t be able to afford the transfer. Any information is greatly appreciated.

This is the clearest instruction I've seen on this topic. Do you know any additional steps for purchasing a NEW vehicle out of sate? Also you did not mention taxes in this video, how does that work exactly?
If purchasing from a dealer, new or used vehicle, the dealer will do all the paperwork, registration, and collect the tax. You don’t need to do anything. If purchasing private party, your local DMV or registration spot will collect the tax. You don’t have to worry about tax, the govt will make sure you pay them lol
I’m looking into buying a car that was transferred over from NJ (private seller) and was wondering what I would need to do to register it here in California or if I would just need the NJ title and smog then head over to the dmv to get it registered and everything
Cars are easy. Trucks are a pain.

@@ManOnTheMoon2131 they’re not your concern or responsibility. Hang em on the garage wall, unless previous owners wants to keep them or if their state requires them to keep them. But nothing you need to worry about.

If my registration expired can I still get my vehicle registered?
@@nathanaelhicks31 if your vehicle is from outside of California, with a title outside of California, it will not matter if the registration is passed due if you are now registering it here in California

That’s a good question! In my experience, 1995 and older diesel trucks do NOT need smog. But a car, I do not know.
If i buy an out of state car from a private seller how long do i have to register it?
I’ve driven my out of state cars all the way up until the registration was due. But! Check with your insurance. Typically nowadays, to add a car to your policy, they want it registered in your name in your state.

SUV’s do not require weight cert. only trucks. Typically insurance has a 30 day grace period to add your vehicle. But, better safe then sorry, you should add it asap.

You only pay sales tax here in California based upon the sales price

You actually don’t need to do any of this with off road vehicles, way easier.
my mom passed away in Washington state. we shipped her car 2004 car to California but we can not find the title. How do I register it here? we have her death certificate and last reg.
I’d start off by visiting dmv, with your documents, and they’ll tell you what you need. In my experience, I’ve had to get a duplicate title from the state it was last registered in, and then transfer it to California

Nope. Each state doesn’t care about the other states registration. And just to be clear you do not need a weight certificate for a car.

Yes
Did you need any insurance stuff?
No. Only if you have a demand needing proof from a history of not having insurance. Otherwise you’ll be fine.
But, don’t forget, if dmv doesn’t receive proof of insurance from your insurance company, eventually they can suspend your registration. So make sure it’s insured soon after you get it registered. I think it’s 30 days.
Do they do any other types of inspections?
As in do they do safety inspections, looking for tinted windows, etc?
