- Been working on this the last few months in my spare time, a small send off to an amazing show. I plan to make more on other characters but I wanted to highlight Malcolm's character. Next video gonna aim to show off the charm and warmth of the show.
I do not claim any ownership of the video or music utilized, only the editing placed together

Why do good shows like this have to end. So well written and acted. I really miss this show.
I know what you mean, it's a show I always come back to when I need a good sci fi epic. I'm keen to do more edit's.
"Firefly" was a great show.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s so great because it was canceled. Think of how many shows run for seasons and they run out of ideas and it all goes downhill. Firefly being canceled (granted I do wish it got a few more seasons and perhaps a few more movies too) kept it from getting trash.
There are 2 types of people in the world: those who love Firefly and those who haven’t seen it yet.
20+ years later one of the fastest ways of growing your channel is to do a firefly reaction series. That says it all.
For me, best Malcolm was from The Train Job.
Sheriff: "Man figures out the particulars of a situation like ours, well, then he's got a choice to make."
Mal: "No, I don't think he does"
Mal is saying that there was no deciding what to do, either return or leave, there was just 'return the medicine' choice. The decision was already made when the whole picture was finally revealed.
I really thought the scene at the end of the episode "Out Of Gas" where he asks the crew if they are going to be there when he wakes up was very well done and tellin of his love for his crew without saying the words. Following that with the look on his face after spoting Serenity in the ship yard was perfect.
Malcolm's thousand yard stare... It just bores into your soul.
Malcom Reynolds is my favorite character of any media. Movies, books, tv. I miss him.
This was a very nice edit, Firefly is one of my favorite shows even though it was only a season.
Shows been “gone” for many years…..and yet, it never leaves my soul.
this always the best compilation of any hero i come back and watch this all the time the best of humanity is Malcom Reynolds
loved it, much. it feels jarring because this story is over. sometimes i wonder, is this story so beloved BECAUSE it is open ended? *sigh* where is that happilly ever after.
Sometimes there are no happy endings....
At least they gave us"Serenity" : )
Oh for a sky for me, endless and free.
A man carrying past trauma will always be a mystery to others...
...not because what the man becomes is in anyway mysterious...
...but because humans instinctively recoil from thinking through the implications of trauma.
A man who knows how killing can solve problems in dire situations will do what needs to be done...even though he knows how tragic and traumatizing it is. Mal was never much of a mystery to me. He did what he could with the skills that he had to try to keep some part of his personal identification alive. The war made him hard, because he knows the consequences of not being hard. But the war also made sure that he would do the right thing...because paying the consequences are unlikely to get him as low as he has been in the past and survived.
The man who was a mystery was Shepherd Book. How does a man with his past become an active pacifist? THAT to me was an interesting story that didn't get told.
2 years ago!? this is well made, thank you for the feelings
Thank you, much appreciated, after this I made the one for Kaylee and in the next month I’m uploading one for another character.
Amazing intercuts and music, constantly building to such a powerful emotional crescendo! Awesome job, I found this on Reddit, thanks for making it :)
Really great edit. I assumed it'd have more highlights of just Mal but I really like how you used scenes of the rest of the crew to really fill it out and illustrate his relationships with everyone, because they really are all a deep part of him and his soul. The clips from "Out of Gas" were great choices for it. I don't usually like "The Message" as much as other episodes (they're all great, it's just not among my very favorites) but your use of it in this was also really good, wasn't too much, was just enough to really add lots of depth and weight. Glad I stumbled upon this. :)
You really illustrated well what I was going for, it's a similar angle I'm taking with the next video for Kaylee. Each character individually is well written, but I definitely feel the relationships and influence they have together over the series is what makes it all the more gripping and mals care for his crew is one of his strongest traits as a leader.
@@Serenity_Media Awww yay, thank you, that's awesome, I'm glad you feel that my observations fit your artistic intent! ^_^ Sounds like we both interpret the show very similarly. I view the whole crew as facets/avatars-of-facets of Mal's true Self (I figure that's really true of all of us, regarding the people we most closely surround ourselves with, but I especially think it's really intentionally written into this particular set of characters). Clips of just Mal, even including heavier development rather than just cheery/funny moments, just wouldn't do him justice. The relationships are so important, and a huge part of why the show is so excellent.
I'm excited that you're doing more of these, and especially love that you're applying this relationships-heavy analysis style to Kaylee, too! It's so easy at first glance for people to generally simplify her into a trope (she's a wrench wench, and also bubbly and sweet, ta-da, we have a female character personality template with TWO whole dimensions lol) ... but she's really so much deeper than that, and once again it's really most clearly reflected in the way she relates to and particularly inspires everyone else. Like, yeah, all of the crew influence all of the other crew, but out of them I'd say Mal is the greatest example of everyone-else-impacting-and-being-reflected-in-him, and Kaylee is the greatest example of herself-impacting-and-being-reflected-in-everyone-else.
@@Serenity_Media Ooh and writing that made me realize there's more layers to this ... I think she and Mal have these particular effects/relationship-reflection-directions because they're opposite-ends-of-an-axis in other ways.
Specifically, Mal has the greatest external confidence and projection of knowing who he is, but inside is a roiling kettle of conflictedness and identity-adjustment ("wind blows northerly ..."), so I'd say he's got the least clear idea of who he really is inside, in terms of being able to actually define his core values with words. ("We're not thieves. I mean ... we are thieves ... POINT IS" lol.) Whereas on the flip side, Kaylee does have and openly displays insecurities, but I'd argue that out of all the crew she's Mal's best foil because she's the most confidently firmly centered in knowing/living as her truest self (which is why her humility and vulnerability is all just so very honest, never victimlike nor performative). I love how this shows up in the particular bluntness/candor she speaks with and her unabashed love of physical pleasures like food and sex lol. And the result of her true-ness is that she really clearly touches the hearts of every other character and changes them permanently by inspiring them to live more closely to their best/truest selves (omg the shot of Jayne waiting anxiously outside the infirmary during the pilot!!! so touching and IMO one of the most revealing moments for him!!!).
Sorry for verbose nerding-out haha, that got long! I hadn't really thought about Kaylee's particular depth in this sense before/hadn't put words to it, and it was fun to explore that! Thanks for the opportunity lol, I wish more discourse about this series went this deep!
Now my brain is trying to assign other pairs of characters to being each other's foils on various axes/intersections of axes ... like how Inara is the best at very accurately perceiving others' true selves _and_ also understanding people's true needs/motivations because of it, River is objectively the most perceptive but also inhibited at understanding (or I suppose I should say "She understands, but she doesn't comprehend" as she put it), Wash is not strong on that type of perceptiveness/emotional intelligence about people's inner selves but is still very good at understanding people's actual motivations and behaviors when their true selves are on display enough for him to see them, and Jayne is the 0/0 on this punnett square because he's not perceptive at all really and doesn't understand or predict people accurately lol. Idk just spitballing at this point. (Also I think the cross-ways/other-combinations axis for the Kaylee/Mal comparison above would probably be Zoe as the character who's the second-most-in-tune with her true self inwardly and she also matches that with her outward confidence, and Book would be the character who has the second-most-turbulent-inner-struggle, and he also matches that by showing his uncertainty and doubts on the outside. Darn, I'm totally neglecting Simon in these axis-models right now, I'll come up with something for him sometime haha.)
While I'm writing a wall of text, something something "Zoe IS the ship" something something, I only recently got awakened to this read on her character and I love it and I hope it's something you're considering if you make an edit about her!
Okay I'm done now lol
Shepherd!! Thanks for doing this! It was awesome. Nathan is so much younger here. Gosh dang it...miss this show soooo much.
Shiny! ^_^ More, please!
I'm halfway through the next firefly tribute video 🌟🍓
Brilliant piece of work. Thank You
Love this show.... Thank you so much !!!!
What? I'm not crying, you're crying!
Yup, still hurts with what they did to this show...
That was very well done. So much so that I am going to have to watch it again. (I just watched the whole series and movie a couple weeks ago!)
Thanks, yeah while making it and the next one I've re watched it twice already. Will forever be my favorite sci fi show.
Excellent!
I missss yoooooouuuuuuuuuuuuu
Trying to decide on the next character, let me know who should be next.
I think Mr. Washburn deserves it after how those reavers did him dirty
River
The Hero of Canton... the man they call 'Jayne'
The second in badass, Zoe.
I would also love to see The Operative.
It's great that you put a spotlight on the Shiniest "Firefly" crew member: Kaylee Frye. Magnificent choice, great profile. Thank you.

Not bad at all, been waiting for a new age Capt Mal tribute, the scene transitions were done very well
Man oh man, you got the heart of Mal dead on!
Thanks a bunch man, means a lot.
Thanks for making this
O Cap'n! My Cap'n!
Made my day, thanks
Happy to hear, was a lot of fun making it and rewatching the series once again haha
Azaming! Esp liked the ending
Well done
Best tv show ever, Disney have their hands on it now though s tragic
I never really liked that episode, but this edit makes me want to re-assess my opinion.
👍❤️ Excellent
You really MUST do one on every character. With River you should get some from the movie "Serenity" because at the end it really showed her off. Please do more.
I took a long hiatus cause of work but I have been wanting to return as last I was halfway through working on one for Wash.
I was trying to avoid using Serenity to focus fully on the show but yeah I agree with you on that with River, so will see.
👏👏👏
Heard that this show is again in the works, with Disney footing the bills. Streaming, maybe?
Miss this show sm sad to see it die for shows that came after that were just so bad so sad I would of been happy with at least 2 seasons and a movie idk something more but the sad part is all these are older now and sadly gus passed away so not sure what will happen if Disney will ever revive this I guess if they do I truly hope they take good care of it
Who else is here still?
Onion ninjas man. Not fair.
So dark 😭
Gorram shiney
Love this show. Like what you did but... argh! It's just dying for a few Serenity clips to give his whole journey. Just don't seem right to have a mal tribute without "I aim to misbehave" and "are you prepared to die for that belief?" "I am."
Still like what you did here.
what are we now mal? 😢 guys ima name my mf son malcom bro
