Nothing, the series never really fasincanted me. The whole western setting was so cliche and stupid. The characters had good setups, and without the whole western nonsense it might have worked.

@MF Nickster I mean, have you seen Patrick Stewart off camera? Nothing wrong with the actor being a goofball or a prankster, if they can WORK IT on camera/stage.
@@HermicraftAddict *that would be such an amazing thing to be done for the fans of the show and something that to be added to the bucket list of thousands if not more*

Personally, I apply the rule of episodes (pilot has nothing to do with series, second show sucks, third show begins the ‘stable core’) to seasons, so I sometimes wonder how the second season would have unpacked things
"...never seen such a tightly written half-season as Firefly,.." There, fixed it for ya! Remember, _Firefly_ was a mid-season replacement for _Dark Angel_, & accordingly only had 13 (magnificent!) episodes...
my fave is still the last scene in episode one... "it was a good day." "you were chased by feds, and outlaws, all manner of savage, half the crew is beat up or suffering gunshot wounds, yourself included, and this is a good day?" "we are still flying." "well, I guess thats something." "its enough."
Just goes to show you, no matter how horrible a show is, there will be someone who insists that it's a work of genius and the rest of us "just don't get it".
I, like many fans of this show, didn't find out about it until YEARS after it was cancelled. Fox basically cancelled the show before launch by not advertising.
it's a show against a plucky independent businessman surviving in competition with a corporate juggernaut. is it any surprise the FOX media empire decided to cancel it?
So, I bought a DVD and it had an ad with clips from other movies on it. Some of those clips (very brief) were from a movie called "Serenity". "Oh, a scifi movie I've never heard of before," I thought. Then, as I went down the DVD aisle at a few stores, I saw "Serenity" and it had a weird picture of River on the cover. That kind of turned me off, but I'd watch that first DVD a few more times and kept seeing those clips. So, one day, walking down the DVD aisle again, I decided "Eh, why not?" and bought it. Boom, great movie with great interesting characters that had already been established. The movie had a TV series feel to it. Then, one day, I found the entire "Firefly" series in one inexpensive DVD set. Bought it when I found it. The series felt exactly like the movie. Unfortunately, I knew the end of the story, but I liked the (unaired) end of the series that introduced Jubal Early - an insane bounty hunter who was very intelligent, very skilled and obviously very deadly. If the series had continued, he would have been a great recurring character (given he didn't die in space as he was set adrift in a spacesuit) I hope they do bring back the series and not as a reboot.
When I found Firefly, I binged watched all the episodes. I loved it. Looked up when the next season was going to play only to find out it was cancelled about 5 years earlier. Would have loved to see more of Firefly. The movie Serenity was good too. All the actors worked well together.
I’ve been a longtime “Browncoat”. Whenever I’m not feeling well or if we get snowed in I binge watch Firefly. In fact now I’m reading the spin-off novels. They happen to be very well written.
I think my favorite Castle/Firefly moment was where he reveals he knows Chinese and when asked where he learned it Fillion's character says 'from a TV show I loved'
@@HermicraftAddict their actual Chinese on Firefly was either horribly pronounced or not even Chinese. It drove my Chinese wife nuts every time they tried on the show.
I didn't even know about the show until after I saw "serenity." When I went back and watched it, I couldn't believe it was cancelled. It has to be the best TV SciFi ever made.
In the UK Firefly was shown in order and all episodes were aired. Nobody could understand why it was cancelled. Most sci-fi fans loved it and the box set had very good sales.
Fox didn't want to have two sci-fi shows on at the same time, but how many reality shows, police procedurals, adult cartoons, etc did they have running? Take one great sci-fi show, add another great sci-fi show and you have two great sci-fi shows that will fill two hours and bring in enthusiastic fandoms.
I'd rather have Firefly than Orville. One consideration, though, is that reality show production is relatively cheap. Like, I don't think you meant Cops, but all they had to do was arrange ride-alongs for camera operators. Same may go for those cartoons since part of the appeal could be mocking cheap animation.
@@DarkepyonX So why do they not wish to sell it? By that logic it is garbage to them. The reason not to sell is they know it would compete on another network or the 'internet'.
Fox didn't want to have two sci-fi shows on at the same time. Specifically: shows set in outer space with similar settings. Yet back in the 90s my local FOX affiliate was airing Star Trek Deep Space Nine at the same time they were airing Babylon 5 and both shows continued to air until their respective runs completed. Sounds like someone is just giving a lame excuse for not airing more Firefly. FOX executives certainly aren't the brightest stars in the sky. FOX has canceled lots of shows before ever giving them a good chance for people to warm up to them.
Imagine if Firefly had the marketing Buffy did. We'd still be watching reruns of the many seasons that would have been created. Firefly was another show that was just too well done for TV. Networks seem to love mindless drivel instead.
Imagine if Firefly had been anywhere near as good as Buffy. Imagine if it hadn't had such a silly setting and terrible dialogue. Imagine if Firefly had actually been good. Imagine.
@@ross-carlson I personally know around a dozen people with IQ's of 150 and above who don't share your opinion and instead prefer Firefly over Buffy. A preference for Firefly certainly doesn't indicate a lack of intelligence. Imagine how your opinion might differ if you perhaps were more clever.
@Thane Celli Personally I don't think Shepherd Book was there to add much of a religious message into the show so much as to provide a counterpoint to Mal. The Shepherd was someone whose past experiences had led to his "finding faith", whereas for Mal it was just the opposite. In the first episode as everyone aboard Serenity is about ready to eat Book asks if they mind if he says Grace. Mal's response - "Only if you say it out loud.". Yet back in the opening scenes where they are about to enter battle against the Alliance in Serenity valley you see Mal lift a cross hanging about his neck to his lips just before entering the fight. Mal lost the faith that he'd previously because of what he experienced in the war. The main protagonists on Firefly were veterans of the losing side in a war, so the show lacked a "patriotic military" perspective. Maybe you've got a point and the show would have had more support from network execs if religion and military had played more of a role, but then it would have been a completely different show.
Firefly holds a very special place in my heart, but I don't ever want to see a remake. If they return to the verse I hope it is either a continuation or follows a completely different cast of characters. Though I am not even sure I want modern Hollywood touching it.
I could watch Firefly (and Serenity) over and over again - and have done so over the years. Simply one of the best TV shows ever, killed prematurely by a network that seemed incapable of knowing what to do with it. When you see the garbage turned out nowadays by the networks, is it any wonder that TV is becoming irrelevant - I haven't watched TV for over a decade now. Get quality like Firefly back on TV and I would be watching every week.
My entire family adored Firefly from Day 1. It was really tough to catch it, because Fox kept jerking around the times when it would air. Plus, the whole deal of airing the episodes out of sequence drove us nuts. Throughout all of that, we Browncoats loved and adored our show! Went to see Serenity at the theater several times & even bought a couple of props from the movie. Still have one of the Reaver darts that were shot at Kaylee hanging on my wall downstairs. I've always appreciated the fondness that all of the cast members have shown for the series, and it's a special thing to see/hear when other series mention anything about Firefly!!
I managed to catch all the shows as they aired - somehow - and even got some of the downloads of the missing episodes. This was before the DVDs and Blu-Rays were out of course, which I also have now. Loved it from the start. Was also a Brisco County Jr fan, and fan of Buffy/Angel. Firefly fans lost out. Farscape at least got 4 full seasons.
It not only aired on Death Friday, but half the episodes that did air were pushed after midnight by baseball playoffs. The listings couldn't keep track, so I missed broadcast episodes simply because they weren't listed. It was like someone at Fox was trying their best to kill it. And did.
I was a science fiction fan and a Whedon fan, yet the show was so poorly advertised that I never knew it existed until after it was canceled. If they couldn't even manage to market it to a guaranteed fan like me, there's no way they could have gotten a broader audience.
The "Space: Above and Beyond" series suffered a similar fate. It was supposed to show Sundays at 7 PM before "The Simpsons". Of course football was always running long. God forbid anything push "Simpsons" off so it got pushed elsewhere. "Elsewhere" was random timeslots at 1 or 2 AM on weekday (Locally) or not at all. Never the same time slot Then they ended the series on a cliffhanger episode. Then cancelled it. Other than "X Files" I refused to watch ANYTHING on Fox after that for years. Especially "The Simpsons". I missed "Firefly" completely over that. Someone told everyone to buy the series online at Walmart when they were blowing it out at a great price though. I bought it. I still avoid Fox mostly. They lost a customer when the blew up "Space" over football and Simpsons. Simple. STOP airing it in football season. Your precious "Simpsons" would of been priority, why destroy a good show by not airing except at random times that ruined any possible audience? Like they set out to destroy it on purpose.
Fox did pretty much the same thing to Futurama. So many weeks when it was supposed to be on, baseball would be on instead. I had to struggle to figure out when they'd be airing the bumped episodes.
I remember seeing a commercial for it before it came out and was really looking forward to it, not only because it was a fun genre but because Zoe's actor was in another show I had really liked and I wanted to see her in another show. The next time I heard about the show, it was cancelled. I didn't even know it had already come out. That time slot and the out of order distribution ensured those of us who had been anticipating it didn't have a chance.
My 24 year old daughter watched the old Castle series and loves Nathan Fillion. I told her to watch Firefly, which is still on Hulu, Serenity is a $3 rental on Amazon. It was a such a no brainer cool Dad moment.
I love character driven shows where you feel like you know these people. Joss is a very flawed human, but he could really connect to people with his deep characters.
Loved the show. Loved the movie. They squandered what they had time and time again and now it is just too late. Outside of going the animation route with the original casts voices I think any new live action Firefly show would flounder under the weight of what could have been. They should have sold the rights. I think they could pull off highly interactive RPG/movie style game and literally make interactive episodes.. Instead here we are..
I agree. That's exactly what I've been saying to my people for years! Making an animated series with the original cast voice acting seems like the best choice now. They could set it before the movie, so Wash and Book(*cough*) are still alive. Recasting for a reboot seems like a bad idea. And trying to continue with original cast 20 years later is even worse (see: Picard). An animated series would be cheaper to produce and allow so much more creative freedom. A video game adaptation is an intriguing idea...I never really considered that. I like it!
I watched this when it first aired in the UK and it was a breath of fresh air for sci-fi and I was truly gutted when it got cancelled. Serenity was an amazing film.
I, too was late to this show as I was working on my dissertation. Then in 2007, I got cancer and a good friend that owned a video store (anyone remember those) would bring me videos twice a week (her get well gift during my recovery) and Firefly was part of that generous gift. Admittedly, I had a little bit of a hard time understanding the first couple of episodes, but that could have been due to the meds. Then, I sat down one day with a clear head and rewatched the entire series. It was truly FANTASTIC!!! I would watch new episodes even now! Thanks and take care...
I loved this show and the movie. The idea of space travel having become so commonplace and ordinary that the vehicles in use are no longer the spotless marvels of star trek but more like the variety of vehicles we see on our roads today. That includes old, or "classic", types like Firefly herself. Joss Whedon had a great few years and was blessed with a number of actors that became synonymous with his work.
Would absolutely love to see Firefly back, but only with at least the majority of the original cast. They were all amazing together. That chemistry is hard to replicate without the originals.
@David Theile Ron Glass died in 2016 so his character (Book) would have to be permanently gone unless there is some sort of cutting room floor footage they could use as flashbacks. LIke everyone else who was a fan of the show, I just wish there was a few dozen more episodes and another movie or two. Xander as Mal? SHUDDER!!!
There are a *lot* of series that have a lousy two seasons, but really ramp up in their third season -- it's a big enough pattern that I'm convinced that series should be given three seasons to find a voice and find an audience before it gets cancelled. It's a pity that Firefly started out good, but never had a chance to *really* take off!
Truth be told Buffy and Firefly had about the same initial season and popularity, the difference being the network. WB gave Buffy a chance and were rewarded while FOX believe in throwing spaghetti against the wall and if it didn't stick trying something different. Buffy's first really good episode was the season 1 finale Prophecy Girl and that set the stage for the classic show that followed so we quite easily could have missed out on BtVS as well.
I have always heard, that Firefly was 'this great show that was cancelled, but was wildly popular'. I only watched it recently, and LOVE IT. I am amazed that it got cancelled, and didn't blow-up! It just goes to show what mismanagement will do, to even a Good Show.
i was there when the show first aired. you could never find it. fox really blew it!! it changed days of the week and the hour.. you could never find it!! and we were really trying as we loved it from the first second..
Had a second thought. Saw the "Magnificent Seven" when I was much younger, a truly great western, with great actors very enjoyable, then some years after that, discovered that the movie was based on "The Seven Samurai" a Japanese classic which in itself, albeit in B&W was again a great movie. The transition of the story from one culture to another with the basic layout and theme the same, did it no harm at all. So it was with "Firefly" endearing, funny, poigniant, adventurous, all of which make for a romping good tale. We need some escapism from this tormented world we live in, it protects our sanity. BRING BACK FiREFLY! PLEEZE! Lets face it we havent had a decent Sci Fi on the TV for years, so lets have it!
Disney owns the rights to Firefly, but the prognosis isn't good from what I've read. The rumored reboot would be done with a whole new cast--which already puts me on the back foot. It's also rumored that the tone would be shifted to a more family-friendly vibe. The idea of a kiddie version of Firefly makes me want to grind my teeth in rage.
I really think the moment for a reboot is past, sadly (unless they do animated maybe?). The OG cast has aged a lot since then which means a time-skip would need to be explained. That would also mean that a lot of the plot holes would have to be left hanging because you can't expect an audience to believe that certain mysteries or romances would have been left unresolved for 10+ years of this crew flying together. Plus we no longer have Wash and Book who were two of the cast favourites and provided a lot of the comic relief and moral grounding for the crew respectively. A new cast just wouldn't be the same, unless they were able to find another group of people who meshed as well as that particular cast did - and I find it hard to believe they would find it. That cast was lightning in a bottle.
They could "revive" the old actors with CGI actors. That would be exiting! Shepherd Jar-Jar Book reimagined as feminist, diverse, poop-joke cracking....oh never mind.
I'd love to see more shiny, shiny episodes of the iconic show, ideally with the as much as the original cast as possible (interest may vary, as some have gone on to be pretty successful). I'm sure Mal would be onboard for more, and as the glue which held Serenity together, he'd bring more of the original cast. They'd have to keep the original theme too, it's just so damn good!
Loved the show, have the whole boxed set. Lent it out to people to watch, got them hooked. Went to the preview screenings in my area. Got Morena Baccarin's autograph. Got the movie (actually, two copies of the movie). Lent that out to people to watch (after they watched the tv show), kept them hooked. Trying to spread the love one future fan at a time. :o)
Firefly left a deep impression on me and I didn't realize that it showed. At the age of 16 my son who had just gotten his drivers license took me on a ride. He drove directly to the theater where he had purchased tickets for the opening of Serenity. He hadn't watched Firefly, but he remembered as a kid how I looked when my world stopped the moment the show came on.
Being a truck driver , I missed seeing this series when it was first aired . Wasn't till my boys and I were looking at DVD's, they mentioned I would like it . So disappointed that the network , could not see its worth . I watch the series at least once a year , the same goes for Lonsome Dove .
I still watch this once a year. I love this show so much. And It's been how long? Since 2004, I think? These folks are too old now. I hope they just let it stay gone. It wouldn't be the same. At all.
You failed to mention all the official comics that have expanded the story a great deal! Other than that... there's so much to confess. A show that defined its decade and influenced shows like Battlestar Galactica. Script was so anti-cliche at the time - in the standard comedic/cynical Whedon way. By today's standards, it may seem as "nothing special", but back then it had balls to go to all directions shows were hesitant to go before - from the "heroes" killing off the "bad" guys when they had the chance to spare them, to showing the characters private lives, even going to toilet, to shaky/handheld camera in space without sound - things that hadn't been done before in space shows. Firefly loosened up the formalities, blurred the lines between good and evil and added the western's rusty and gritty settings. I can only imagine what it could have become under the care of a network like HBO as opposed to Fox, and I can write dozens of pages to eulogize the importance of Firefly, and why it meant so much to me and millions of fans over the past two decades; the characters became our family, and Serenity was our home. See you in the 'verse!
@@jksalamon I've been trying to leave a comment but YT blocks all my website references. Anyway, look up in wikipedia Firefly comics. There is definitely a variety of Firefly material in comics, but it's something of a mixed bag. Some of it is really good, while some (the more recent stuff IIRC) seems like it was written by someone who has never watched the show and has no sense of the characters.
Me and my brother used to tune in every week for this show. We were hooked and so saddened when it was cancelled. I always wanted more and the movie just destroyed my hopes. So many questions unanswered.
I was bored one afternoon and watched serenity on a whim at the dollar theater. It blew me away and I had to tell everyone about this random sci Fi movie that surely no one else knew about. One of my co workers just got a big smile on his face and told me there was a whole season of the same show and he let me borrow it the next day. I binged the whole thing over the weekend and was hooked and devastated that we wouldn't get any more seasons. I bought the board game and all of it's expansions and that let's me go back whenever I get a few hours with fellow brown coats.
what a great show! I have the DVDs and if Blu-rays weren't "old tech" at this point...I would buy the BD set as well. I so wish it had been given more seasons. On a side note...I love the Looper videos. You guys do great great explanations in short times. Your writing, narration and edits are really on the spot with what fans want to see in these vids. Good on you guys.
I vaguely remember Firefly being advertised on Fox. However, my schedule with my job prevented me from seeing it. I saw it on TV years later, and I became a huge fan. What an excellent show.
I've seen so many people watch it for the first time and fall in love with it! Firefly, Brisco County Jr, Space Above and Beyond and Earth 2 are my favorite Sci-Fi series that were murdered too soon!
The cancellation of Firefly was the beginning of the end of my watching broadcast networks. Why devote time to a show only to have it yanked out from under you? FOX screwed up. If a show lasts a few years I'll catch it on DVD. I'll know ahead of time how many seasons were made and can plan accordingly.
Saw a Disney version of Robinson Cruso some time ago with Sam Neil a great little series very well made, one season, then it was gone the story line ended without an end, no explanation just ended, what a waste of my time I hate that, so many start up series end without warning, I do not watch them any more dont need the disappointment, my life has enough already.
I did not know it had been on Fox but watched it on the Science Channel and when it ended I had the same feeling you did. I slowly quit watching tv because it seemed every show I liked would get canceled . I liked Firefly because the crew was a bunch of weirdos.
Same here like nearly everyone else. I never heard of the show, watched it, loved it, and cried when I found out it was cancelled years before. I do want this back if they do it right!
I still rewatch this from time to time. I've resigned to the fact that this show ain't going to be revived. Even if it did, it would be absolutely neutered to cater to current sensitivities.
It was such a GOOD family show, our family LOVED IT! We watched it on Netflix until it was no longer available, then we bought the movie. It would be good to see it come back for sure. Thanks for sharing Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
I am one of many who discovered Firefly after it was cancelled. I have since seen them all and the movie at least twice. It certainly was never properly publicized when it debuted. What a shame!
They didn't reuse the Starship Trooper armor to simply save money. The network rejected the 2hr pilot titled "Serenity" and demanded that Whedon create a new 1hr pilot episode on short order. So, over a weekend Whedon and Minear wrote "The Train Job" and they shot the new pilot on an accelerated basis. They used the armor from ST because they literally didn't have time to design something new in the time allotted.
@@1JasonBradly While that may often be true. In this case the decision to use the ST armor was made due to the short time frame to write and shoot "The Train Job." Whedon stated his objection to using the armor because he knew everyone would recognize it immediately but he didn't have any other choice. The network literally said, "We're not airing your pilot. Shoot another one and have it to us by Friday or else." As I understand it they wrote the episode over the weekend and shot it the week prior to its Friday airing.
I remember watching and loving Firefly when it first hit the airwaves. The problem, however was that I never knew when a new show was coming -- the schedule was so sporadic and they repeated shows and aired them out of order. It was like Fox was trying to kill it. That should explain SOME of the mystery here.
Another great show from that early 2000's era was "Keen Eddie," also aired out of order, poorly scheduled and thrown off the air. I would love to see both it and "Firefly" return...and I don't want them to either. Some shows are not rebootable and need the original cast, and it's been too long now (almost 20 years). Besides, every character on Firefly is key to its working and two of them were killed off in the "Serenity" movie (and one of those actors, Ron Harris, has also since passed away). Nathan Fillion is over 50 years old now, and Adam Baldwin is 60...and that's too old to be playing immature bare knuckle tough guys. And that's the other problem: We expect people to grow up, mature, get their lives together. It's sort of a disappointment if they don't. Would we really tolerate the "should we or shouldn't we" dynamic between Captain Reynolds and Inara? Shouldn't they have figured it out by now? Shouldn't Jayne have wised up just a little bit? And it seems like River would have gotten better and Zoe would have moved on from the tragedy of losing Wash and Simon would have grown more confident. But if everyone has grown up and got a life as we'd hoped...well, there goes the mix of the show. It would be like that all-too-common phenomenon of attending your 20th Class Reunion and after a few hugs and stories, realizing you didn't really have much interest in these people anymore.
Damn right it wasn't marketed right. I never even heard of the show until I watched the movie. I loved the movie and only later discovered there was an actual show made before it
I LOVED this season! Had great humor, action and a wonderful cast that gelled so well together. Really a shame that it was terribly botched post-production and did not get the chance to grow.
Piece of advice to anyone that has not watched the show, don't start because you will get attached to it only to have your heart broken since all the character arc's just leave the viewer hanging because of it being cancelled just as we were beginning to delve deeper into the characters.
Understand the sentiment, but the old cliché kind of fits for most who take the journey, "Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all."
This is just my opinion. I love firefly and was really ticked off when they killed off major cast members in Serenity. It was like they were trying to guarantee it couldn't come back, but every show has a time window and as far as I've seen lately every reboot after that window turns out to be crap. Again just my opinion.
Not enough shows/movies are willing to kill off major characters which really lowers the stakes. I think it was a clever move, they had nothing to lose since I think they knew there wouldn't be any sequels anyway.
I totally agree! I loved Firefly and pretend that the movie doesn't exist because they killed off half of the characters. It's right up there with the ending of Quantum Leap and the ending of Medium in things I pretend never happened!
One of the best series that took sci-fi into new and much more interesting regions . . . also a classic example of what prats they were (are?) at Fox for cancelling the show. At least we eventually had 'Serenity' to bring storylines to a premature end.
Fun fact… Whitefall is southern Colorado. Yes, I recognize those peaks. No, I don’t actually know the names. But that is home. Most of the outer planets were filmed in proper high-altitude, alpine deserts.
I watched the movie Serenity twice and didn't think much of it, until someone said you HAVE to watch Firefly first. So I did, and wow did so much suddenly made sense, and then after the short series, watching Serenity was necessary again
@@disconer Ohhh...Sorry about that. I misunderstood you. For a moment I got really excited that there might be something else associated with Firefly besides the movie and its single TV season. Oh well, back to dreaming about what might have been if the suits at Fox had used their brains and actually watched the show before pulling its plug.
It'd be cool to see them start this show again, 20 years later with a new crew taking over Serenity, as decades of mounting tension between the border and core worlds push the 'verse to the brink of war. The old crew of the Serenity, disbanded, retired, or hiding, find themselves being pulled back into the journeys of their old vessel.
Just watched it again after 5 years and loved it so much! It's too good I still can't believe only one season but looking forward till I watch it again in a few years time.
I was one of the few that watched when it aired, loved it then and love it now. I like that it had a small connection to Briscoe because it loved it too and was disappointed that it was cut early too. However I wouldn't want a sequel/remake done with woke Hollywood, they would ruin it. They destroyed comics, star wars, star trek, etc
I absolutely love Firefly. It's one of the best series ever made and I would have helped raise money if it really could have been bought! There was so much more that could have been done with the story. I can't believe it was that close to coming back!
I didn't even know about Firefly until years after it had been cancelled!! Mainly I was going through a pretty messy divorce and in the process of losing my house and land when this aired! So "life"! Then one day ten years later I was told I should watch Firefly.... from an internet forum I was on! I loved it so much I watched each episode over and over and over again!! I don't think they could ever bring back such a great show......and Disney will destroy it with all their SJW woke BS in my mind!!! Firefly was supposed to be "dark" for a reason, and that reason IS obvious when you really dig into the stories of the characters, especially Mal!!
there is an image that has stayed with me all these years. Wash had died and was buried on a distant planet with a digital headstone that appeared to play short video clips of Wash. Kind of like an eternal eulogy. Somehow, that is just existentially sad.
What a great show that was. Damn the idiots at Fox who screwed it over from the beginning! Each and every episode was a jewel. I no longer watch TV at all; there's very little on that woke wasteland that draws me in. Firefly's writing, direction and acting was first class all the way, and as the man said: they just don't make them like that anymore.
Once they killed Wash in the movie the show was kind of dead to me. At this point it's been so long you would have to recast everyone and it just wouldn't be the same chemistry
I think it sucks that they killed Wash, but I also think that new adventures would be worth exploring. The larger problem is that the Inara story would have to be rushed, or ignored. Recasting is not an option, not for the crew of Serenity. Now, new stories set in the verse with a new crew... I'm open to that. It would be hard to top the original chemistry though. It was so perfectly thought out, the crew and the casting. I don't know if magic like that can be done twice.
The movie was a "pilot" to a continuation. Wash was committed to another project and wasn't available after the movie. His future absence had to be explained / accounted for.
And are we sure cloning isn't available in the 'verse? And/or do we know the limits of River's powers...? There are workaround to return K-2SO, er, Wash.
What would you like to see done with "Firefly"?
Seasons 2 through 5 would be good. Better hurry though as the original cast is aging out.

watching the show now on episode 3. I was 5 or 6 when my family watched it years back. Loving the show now!
I've never seen such a tightly written one season since Firefly, every episode was outstanding.
Absolutely. I'm re-watching Firefly now on Hulu and every single episode holds up. Tremendous potential for more.
"it was a good day."
"you were chased by feds, and outlaws, all manner of savage, half the crew is beat up or suffering gunshot wounds, yourself included, and this is a good day?"
"we are still flying."
"well, I guess thats something."
"its enough."
If the series had continued, he would have been a great recurring character (given he didn't die in space as he was set adrift in a spacesuit)
I hope they do bring back the series and not as a reboot.
@@thudthud5423 If the show had not been cancelled I suspect the season would have ended with River leaving with the bounty hunter. As the cliffhanger.
O found out about it when Sheldon made a comment on the The Big Bang Theory....got me curious to look it up😄👍
it was broadcast against big brother or survivor and lack of advertising doomed it.
When I found Firefly, I binged watched all the episodes. I loved it. Looked up when the next season was going to play only to find out it was cancelled about 5 years earlier. Would have loved to see more of Firefly. The movie Serenity was good too. All the actors worked well together.
I just binged it. This has been a very good weekend

I’ve been a longtime “Browncoat”. Whenever I’m not feeling well or if we get snowed in I binge watch Firefly. In fact now I’m reading the spin-off novels. They happen to be very well written.
Hell yeah! Absolutely hated, HATED when Wash was killed in Serenity. Hated it…
they had a second year in the box, they put out a boxed set of year one and two.
I think my favorite Castle/Firefly moment was where he reveals he knows Chinese and when asked where he learned it Fillion's character says 'from a TV show I loved'
Ends up it was all offensive words, lol.
@@HermicraftAddict their actual Chinese on Firefly was either horribly pronounced or not even Chinese. It drove my Chinese wife nuts every time they tried on the show.

@@soldbywinakey706 I agree. Their Chinese was atrocious.
And all they could use it for was cursing.
There’s a scene in Castle where he dresses as a “space cowboy” and his daughter quips that there are no cows in space.
Orville didn't place 125th regardless of fan reception, the series was NOT a winner . And stations aren't wanting series that don't make them money .
@@danamoore1788 studios are basically hoarders.
Imagine.
Networks typicaly like shows to be cost-effective. Firefly cost too much for the ratings it received.
@Thane Celli Don't forget - she added "respectability" to their ship! Lol! 🙂
This was one of the best science fiction shows on television! And Serenity is a classic! You have to watch it, to get it. The writing is fantastic!
Firefly holds a very special place in my heart, but I don't ever want to see a remake. If they return to the verse I hope it is either a continuation or follows a completely different cast of characters. Though I am not even sure I want modern Hollywood touching it.
i second that. after how they killed the most beloved franchises like star wars, and jurassic park
Amen. Just look at how they've butchered Star Trek.
Leave Firefly alone.
They'd make it a woke nightmare.
Totally agree...modern Hollyweird would definitely ruin it. So sad.
Here here! gold lost in the sands of time! sad!
Loved the series, loved the movie, mourned the loss. Guess I should feel grateful that it didn’t get bought out by Disney.
Yeah well that happened anyway, sure fire way to kill a movie.
Disney . Yeah whew!
Honestly, if they gave Firefly the budget of Falcon and the Winter Soldier I would not complain.
@@orangemage9522 It would suck though. All the actors would be geriatrics and they would get rid of any post-civil war themes
I think Disney did buy 21st Century Fox, but not Fox brodcasting I guess? Im confused.
Wholeheartedly agree.
Never the same time slot
Then they ended the series on a cliffhanger episode.

I couldn't imagine another cast than the original.
Serenity was so good too !
Firefly forever. Don't ever want to see a remake/reboot/whatever. Can't recapture the perfection that was Firefly.
"Firefly forever."
That's basically 2 wonderful shows that lasted only 1 season (mercifully, Forever had 22 episodes), and I want them back.

Love Firefly, love all the characters, perfectly cast, watched it many times over, hope they continue it in the near future.👍🏻
That casting chemistry was on point.
My 24 year old daughter watched the old Castle series and loves Nathan Fillion. I told her to watch Firefly, which is still on Hulu, Serenity is a $3 rental on Amazon. It was a such a no brainer cool Dad moment.
"the old Castle series "
That moment you realize Castle itself is almost 15 yo ... :)
I love character driven shows where you feel like you know these people. Joss is a very flawed human, but he could really connect to people with his deep characters.
So I bought this and the movie, I watch it often. This show was so well written, acted and just probably my favorite.
Firefly remains in my top-2 list of the greatest shows to ever grace television.
When the box set came out, it made sense to buy 2, just in case one went missing. Greatest sci fi ever.
Then came the Blu-Ray set...
I actually bought two sets also. One to loan out, and one to keep and never loan in case I didn't get the other one back.
Would absolutely love to see Firefly back, but only with at least the majority of the original cast. They were all amazing together. That chemistry is hard to replicate without the originals.
The first episode- finding a cloning facility for Wash.
Especially the episode where River was frightened by Book's hair. 😂😂😂
SHUDDER!!!
On 9-1-1 Lone Star, I’ve noticed bits where Gina Torres slips back into being Zoe and… it’s perfect
Absolutely agree!!
In a way, it did blow up and is still blowing up. Search for first time watching firefly reaction videos here on RUclips.
i was there when the show first aired. you could never find it. fox really blew it!! it changed days of the week and the hour.. you could never find it!! and we were really trying as we loved it from the first second..
Every firefly episode is better done and more compelling than any star trek or star wars movie in the last 15years.
That's a lot of caveats and addendums, but I agree.
I never knew about this show until a friend loaned me the box set. I fell in love immediately, and wondered where I was when it aired.
Blame Fox for that. They really did almost everything possible to prevent you from finding out.
I would be more worried about them Star Warsing it. Making Mal and Jane 65 lb women out cracking skulls and expressing their true gender identities.

I'd love to see more shiny, shiny episodes of the iconic show, ideally with the as much as the original cast as possible (interest may vary, as some have gone on to be pretty successful).

There is definitely a variety of Firefly material in comics, but it's something of a mixed bag. Some of it is really good, while some (the more recent stuff IIRC) seems like it was written by someone who has never watched the show and has no sense of the characters.
Battlestar Galactica was good. Firefly wasn't.

Learned this lesson when Space 2063 came out in 1995 ans was cancelled after one season. If it's Fox, just don't bother.

There isn't a studio on the planet that wouldn't ruin any new iteration of this show.
Sci-fi always recycles reused everthing and everybody, this is a natural thing to do.
“The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.” was also a heavy influence on the show.
Gods damn it!!!!
Now I have to watch Firefly all over again!!!
I loved the movie and only later discovered there was an actual show made before it
Firefly was a Grate Tv show , I Loved it !
Naw, screw that, misery loves company- go watch it now, people.
Understand the sentiment, but the old cliché kind of fits for most who take the journey, "Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all."
Anyone who enjoys Firefly should try out The Expanse. It's fantastic, I can't recommend it enough.
@@nicholasvinen C'mon, ever since Bobby Ewing died, we know that death is not that final in TV shows... 😆
@@klausstock8020 now that you point it out, there was that Firefly episode about the guy who tries to get out of trouble by faking his own death...
I totally agree! I loved Firefly and pretend that the movie doesn't exist because they killed off half of the characters. It's right up there with the ending of Quantum Leap and the ending of Medium in things I pretend never happened!
Firefly was the best show on TV period. I pretty much stopped watching TV altogether not long after it was cancelled.
I don't blame you one bit. One of the finest casts ever and it received ZERO support from the network. Truly a classic show of any genre.
What "short series?" I've never heard of it. How did you find it?
@@williammartin8151 The 15 episodes of Firefly
I just finish binge watching the entire series of "firefly' on comet . I have seen it a couple of times and still enjoy it.
Bring back Firefly!!!
there is an image that has stayed with me all these years.
"If someone tries to kill you, you kill 'em back." I have the DVDs, it's great.
