I love Dollhouse! It’s a shame they rushed season two I felt it would have been better if they could have taken their time and done the plot justice. I know they were worried cancelation and rightly so, but it jumped the shark with season 2.

You know it occurred to be that it would not take much cannon juggling to put "Cowboy Bebop" and "Firefly" in the same universe. How cool would it be for the Firefly to be chased down by the crew of the Bebop, and a gunfight ensue between Malcom, Cobb, Spike, and Jet. In the end Jet and Spike let the Firefly escape when they realize how corrupt the people who put the bounty on them were.
Except that in Firefly Earth was, well, “Earth that was”, and the verse is some other solar system entirely while in Bebop Earth is just fine and dandy.
First episode of Firefly Mal uses an anti air/space emplaced gun and when he activates the HUD to aim it starts up with a Weyland-Yutani logo visible. That puts Firefly in the same universe as the Aliens Movies. Those movies have crossovers with the predator franchise AND they mention that the Tyrel corporation was a competitor for W-Y. The movie Soldier was supposed to start with the battle of Tanhauser gate that was mention in Blade Runner and while that was cut for budget reasons it is mentioned on screen in his military service record and one of the flying cars being seen in a junkyard. So if you want an extended universe Soldier, The Blade Runner moves, The Alien movies, the Predator movies, and the series of Firefly and the following movie Serenity are all set in the same shared universe just at different points in the timeline with the Predator franchise going back several hundred years so I think it would be the earliest and I think Serentiy being the farthest forward since it is around 500 years in the future. If you want to go into comics and other stuff that may or may not be canon there are even more things that could be linked in like the fact that Batman fought a Predator once but the stuff I listed was all on screen in shows and movies

So it could just be just a means of saving money instead of connecting universes. But cool if it’s on purpose.

Dollhouse is a great show. It turned a lot of people off because it seemed like it was over-sexualizing the characters. That's the point. It's a stab at Hollywood beauty standards and over-sexualization in advertising and media.
