No problem at all. Hopefully the video helps. I have a few others on land training drills and another on the technique I use. The learning curve is tough but it does eventually click. Any questions then I am more than happy to help 👍 Thanks

Thanks for posting these...although I have not even get close to ladder start. I'm using a Gamma 68 modified to 42 inches wing span. No problem windfoiling but no good without wind sofar.

Fantastic tips. What type of board do you recommend to start J-P-G? There are trade offs for ease of initial balance and 'pumpability'.

Thanks for the comment, it is much appreciated! With regards to boards for dock starting, the smaller the board the harder it will be learn on. However, pumping will be easier and more efficient when you get used to it. With regards to volume, a lower volume and light board also makes the pumping easier.
A bigger board will be easier to learn to take off on but eventually you may want to go smaller to make the pumping more efficient. I'm on a 4'6 kite foil board (as that's all I have and I can't afford another board 😂) but I would recommend a prone board, as the rocker line on the kite board I have isn't great for dock starting and prone board would be better.
      I hope this helps 👍🤙

Hi - any advise on the board ? Size, volume, brand for a beginner

Thanks for your comment. If you are just starting out at dock starting I would suggest looking for a second hand board, just because when you are learning you will probably knock and drink the board. I learnt on a 4'6 28L Gong Kite foil board which was fine and did the job. However, I now dock start on my prone surf foil board which is a Cabrinha Autopilot at 4'10 and 40L. I just use this as I like the rocker line on it and how it pumps. I would probably suggest something around this size that I currently use as it will make the learning process easier. Really short boards will be tricky to learn on and make the take off harder. I hope this helps, thanks 👍

    Hi !
Do you think I can try with a Sabfoil 1100 and 75 mast and use my kitesurf foil board?
    Thanks!
    Cheers.

Thanks for your message. I haven't tired the Sabfoil 1100 but it should definitely work looking at the specs of it. I'm on a 75cm mast which is the best length I have tried and I'm also on my old kitefoil board so you should be fine. I hope this helps. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions etc 🤙👍

Hi Ian, I want to buy a ladder like you did. Do you recommend a ladder with 4x4 or a 4x5 stairs/steps?

    • @iandavidv
      @iandavidv  2 года назад

Hey man, thanks for your message! My ladder only has 3 steps but it is fine. I am sure either 4 or 5 would be fine as long as it is high enough for you to launch your foil off. The dimensions of the combination ladder I have when it is used as a platform are as follows:
      Width 36cm
      Length 179cm (platform and boards)
      Height 95cm
This is enough height for me to launch my 75 cm mast off.
I have another video on the ladder set up if you haven't see it yet: ruclips.net/video/eT1HxwnPP5g/видео.html
And also a few others that may be helpful.
      Thanks again 👍🤙

Hi Ian. First of all, congratulations on your progress!
I am trying to learn how to pump and I feel my progress is kind of slow. Not that I am stuck, but certainly I was hoping to progress a bit faster at this stage.
If you have time, would you mind having a look at this video and letting me know your opinion?
    ruclips.net/video/UEE1DQcoX84/видео.html
For some reason I struggle to maintain speed and altitud and I end up touching the water. I don't stall so often now like I did before, but still I cannot pump more than 15 or 20 seconds when I'm lucky.
I thought you migtht be able to give me some advice. I would really appreciate it.
I am using a GONG FOIL ALLVATOR FRONT WING X-OVER - XXL (2200cm) and a GONG Matata board 4'2. My weight is 70kg.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hi thanks for the message! Great work on the dock starting and your video looks great. I have a few quick wins for you that will hopefully help. The first is to try to stay high on the mast. Without going into detail, the higher on the mast you are the more efficient the wing will be as it is closer to the water surface. The next thing is to really try to be light on your feet on the upward phase of the pump. Really try to unweight as the foil is rising and almost try to lift your back heel off the board on the way up.
The kit you are on works fine and there's nothing wrong with it but just as a note, it is a large low aspect foil (I had the same one) and it does require a lot of effort to keep pumping it. It has great lift but it is a slow foil that requires a lot of effort which is one reason why it is hard to pump for longer. I hope this helps and just let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck and thanks 👍
