Food combining was trendy in the late 70s/early 80s. It does work and it's really not that hard to do, just hard to explain. Your way of handling this is so clear and sensible.

45 years ago I read a book "Food Combining Made Easy" by Herbert Shelton, written in 1951.
I made copies of some of the pages and still have them in a notebook.
I never followed any of his advice, but now at 70 yo, I'm giving it a try.

Dr. Mona, I have been interested in food combining for some time now and after having a very difficult week of bloating, gas, etc. I decided it was time to do the research. I found your channel and listened to and took notes from videos 1 and 2. I'm about to watch the 3rd one. What you said and explained made sense and I can recall times after eating protein and starch when I felt awful. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. New sub!

EXCELLENT videos on food combining. I practiced this regimen decades ago when I was training .... was 11% body fat with a very high metabolism .. on a non meant diet which included some fish ... my caloric intake just to maintain my 205lbs was 3400 calories ..... altho I found it difficult to stick to all the time ... when I did I had waaay more energy ...... years later I find myself overweight and looking to get back where i was ... or as close to it as possible ... off the dairy ... lots of raw plant based foods, plant proteins , etc and now refreshing my memory on food combining and I found your channel ... subscribed and grateful to have discovered you .. great job and thanks !!

I'm curious about vegan protein powders and things like maple syrup and cacao etc... where do these fall in food combining? I'm all about trial and error (or trial and success) but interested to see what category these fall under.
I would LOVE to see a massive list of alllll foods and superfooda (including powders like maca etc..) in which category they fall under including ones that could fall under 2 categories like beans are considered a starch in some peoples opinions and a protein in others. Thoughts?? :))

Fruits agree with me VERY well. My body loves fruits. Is it alright if for breakfast, instead of eating a smoothie, I will eat a huge fruit platter or a huge fruit salad? (Starting with the fruits that are easiest to digest)
Also, I do not think that as a vegan, the starches VS proteins really apply to me. I am a grain-free vegan and the only legumes I consume are legumes that I have soaked and sprouted which go EXTREMLY fast in my digesting system. Legumes are always digested faster when you sprout them.

I'm confused about one thing: how about adding lemon juice to your, let's say, spinach salad (being a vegetarian it technically helps you absorb more of the iron in the spinach). That would be a fruit+ vegetable combo, and I do that a lot. Since lemons are very acidic maybe that combination is ok?

Mam we can't combine carbs and starches with fat ... A big No No
Carbs spikes up insulin and insulin is also known as fat storing hormone .. while carbs is used as energy source and whole fat is stored in fat cells.. moreover insulin acts as doorway to open cells and fats also gets enter in it and gets stored.... causes High fattening effect

She's right about the store bought nut milks, they contain less than 10 percent nuts. A lot of time it's less than a 1/4-1/8ths a cup of nuts to 8 cups water.
When you do your own nut milk it's 1cup soaked nuts to 4 cups water to get 4 or so cups milk. You pay for a lot of thickeners and fillers.☺

They recommended I put nutritional yeast on my food - I put nuts on my food and try to incorporate a lot of beans and legumes into my diet - should I only be putting the nutritional yeast on my food at dinner? What about having nuts/seeds on my food for lunch?

Interesting, what are your thoughts on an eggs nutrition and seafood ? I’ve been a vegetarian since age 10 but added seafood back to my life 5 yrs ago and never felt better plus am a huge egg lover. Possibly check out the doctor you tuber Brianna Stanko Dr Ben Fuchs discus how egg is the “ perfect food “ because it’s an actual Cell ( which our body’s composed of cells ) so it’s everything we need to make new cells and seafood is also excellent for us since our body is the same mineral chemistry as the ocean . He also discusses food allergies and digestion. Thank you.

I like to mix pure pumpkin into oats and smoothies but I think it's considered a fruit. I'm reading mixed reviews about how easily it's digested, any suggestions?

This was a good video, but I was a little distracted by the zooming in and out of the camera. Maybe try filming on your own on a tripod?
    Over all great content. :)

    Hi Dr Mona!
I'm a vegan, and super interested in nutrition, food science & sports science... Now, I'm a little bit confused over food combining. Many sources - that are supposed to be trustworthy gov sites - and you are categorising beans, lentils, peas, (legumes) + nuts and seeds (their butter) totally differently :o Under which group do these go? As well as soy-based products, such as soy yoghurt, tofu, tempeh, seitan, edamame? Could you please have a summarised document on this that is straightforward? As a vegan I suffer from unbearable bloating amongst other things, and it would be fab to utilise this method since after a few days it seems to be alleviating it, but I need a crystal clear description.
Thank you very much in case you see this and devote your time to do this!
    xx

Great concept!! I’m still learning about being more plant based and I’m curious if you only eat protein at dinner how do you get enough protein for the day?

Question, on the video with the trainer he recommended 45% protein for weight loss. That seems extremely difficult as a vegan alone and now to only eat protein at dinner!? How is that actually obtainable? How do you eat 179 grams of protein in one meal? I would love a video. Fat loss is my priority and I would to do it as a vegan. I don’t eat very unhealthy and I work out 4 times a week and still have trouble loosing so wondering if food combining could help.

Thank you for this video, where does vegan protein powder fall under? So according to the food combination principal, adding raspberry, avocado, cacao powder with vegan protein is a no no? How would a began protein smoothie look like without adding vegetables? Many thanks!

From what little I know, combining animal protein and nuts is a big NO! However, Dr. Mona puts the two into the same category. Or did I miss something?

And how about dairy? For example, I always prepare pancakes with oatmeal, yogurt, eggs and maca. Is that combination safe??

Do lentil/chickpea/black bean pastas count as protein or starches? Still a little unclear since you mentioned that garbanzo beans were protein.

So fruit on its own, vegetables with everything, starches with fats but not nuts, protein with vegetables but not starch?

Docs I saw the charts you shared. How about the fat/oil? How we combine them? Is it can combine in any category? Like we cook our eggs or meat or vege with ghee or coconut oil?

I love peanut butter, and I love oat meal, but every time I try to put them together, as appetizing as it looks, I do find myself somewhat nauseated. Interesting to see from this viideo why that could be!

I am not a big fan of starches. In that case can I eat protein for both lunch and dinner. Btw I am not vegan but I don’t eat red meat either. Just chicken, turkey and fish.

The only way to get a complete protein if you’re a vegetarian is to combine grains and legumes.
