When I was 16 I worked in an Italian restaurant as a dishwasher. The one cook used to make up funny lyrics to songs on the radio. This song became, "Clowns to the left of me, incompetents to the right, here I am, stuck in this kitchen with you." I'm 50 years old and I still think of that every time I hear this song!
I work in hospital kitchen atmosphere, an your coworker’s lyrics still have the same meaning today Lol. Music makes great memories through life. I have a ton. Oh I guess I’m showing my age. Lol

@Gilmore-Devoss ohh I see. I ask because a while back my husband was jamming on this song and he kept on pointing at me when he was singing this song. At the time I never questioned because I didn't know what the song meant. I found out during the time that he liked a was talking to a younger girl. I found out of course later about that. I forgive him and now He actually cheated. I came to check this song because he used to played it alot. Soo now I knows what it means. Thanks for sharing
One of those songs you've heard a thousand times and sang your own lyrics to the whole time. Came here to finally say, "What in the hell was I thinkin?! lol
RobertoMDJr What I heard: "Clouds going over me, jokers in the rain, here I am stuck in the middle with you." Reality: "Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you."
This is WAY late, but I agree so much. This is more for later commenters, as I want to hear yall's opinions. I think they pull it off bc it is based off of a relatively simple 12 bar blues progression (which only uses three chords total: the 1, 4, and 5 of the current key). The instrumental lasts 12 bars. The guitarist playing the higher pitched notes (rhythm guitarist for this section... but I think is actually the lead guitarist for the rest of the song) is playing the rhythm chords in fingerstyle rather than strumming, often playing arpeggios of those chords (fingerpicking singular notes of the current chord), while the other does more complex stuff involving arpeggios/scales/inversions/whatever (I am still a music theory novice). That way they keep the overall chord progression and rhythm the same as a foundation for the other to build off of without two guitarists trying to outplay each other. Secondly, the other is usually playing lower notes to avoid muddling the sounds of similarly pitched notes playing at the same time. Lastly, their dynamics (how loud or soft they play any given note or bar) are just perfect, with one playing loudly and the other softly, and deftly swapping places between bars, and even between individual beats of the same bar.
Both "Well I don't know why I came here tonight" and "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you" remind me of Batman.
Now is the perfect time for true independents to take the bull by the horns. Trump proves people want something other than the establishment. Now we need to have candidates people are proud of.
Chocolate ThunderBear Independents are just democrats or republicans who don't like their party anymore, that's all we are. And we will never get into office
This song and “Wait a Second!” by Lukaz just hits different in early 2022. Times may be tough but everything going to be okay in the end. I hope everyone is doing well. I love you 💕
I gave an opinion. That's what this section is for. If you don't understand or like it, too damn bad. I was explicit but your feeble mind couldn't grasp it. Mind your own business, and I happen to know a charity that donates used brains free. It's covered by your medical plan.
wow, spideraxis....time for your medication! Ya think you over-reacted a bit? why so defensive if you were only giving your opinion? I was only asking a question! Whoa....you are one scary SPIDER!
The lyrics along with the shaky, grey and slightly distorted view of natural scenery and picturesque outlook kind of reminds me of a not so large rural town in the central North Island of New Zealand. It's life Steve, but not necessarily as one might expect to know it.

I just watched that movie for the first time last night, man. Great flick.
Never in my life have I ever thought I'd find a song that would resonate with me so well.
How soo? Can you explain?

The guitar work is subtle but very fierce. Two leads going on in the instrumental break

WHAT??? NO, I enjoy this song, what makes you say people got their ears removed? sure it sounds tinny but it's a good song.
oh ok
This is how us people that are independent feel about both political parties
Oh, thank you!! I'm not alone!!!
So support Bernie Sanders. He is independent and wants to help the people not exploit them
I wish he would have left the Dems and ran outside that party, because he didn't he is simply one of the clowns to the left.
Now is the perfect time for true independents to take the bull by the horns. Trump proves people want something other than the establishment. Now we need to have candidates people are proud of.

Coolest song on the planet.
When I heard this around 1973, I thought it was John Lennon as it sounded very Beatles like song.
After watching Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs this song took a completely different meaning for me. Great song.
I discovered this beauty from watching Grace and Frankie and now it's one of my favorite songs :))
This song and “Wait a Second!” by Lukaz just hits different in early 2022. Times may be tough but everything going to be okay in the end. I hope everyone is doing well. I love you 💕

You should get that checked out It may be a sign of not liking this song.
May want to get that checked out.
My right ear, it’s a sharp, almost... slicing pain? So weird. lol
By far the best comment I've read on here. Every time I hear this song I think about an ear and a straight razor.
I just heard this song on the radio lol. Love this song
My mom played this when I was younger and I would try to sing it evrey time it said please I would say cheese
And that's why they would laugh
I remember this song I was only a little girl lol and I still remember 🤣
Malcom in the middle 💜
That show is the fucking best
TIL this is not a Beatle's song. To think that this was a George Harrison contribution is the highest compliment I can give to a song.
Cersei Lannister would like this song. Enemies to the left of me, enemies to the right, here I am... stuck in the middle with you!
I really searched to hear the whole song because i've watched Grace and Frankie and still watching from time to time☺️
