You should use old cooked rice that has been in the fridge on a sheet pan. The dryness gives you a lot more leeway to add tasty liquids. Also, the reason it's called "fried rice" is that in the cooking process, the rice crackles like it's being fried, and the grains should be lightly coated with a smoky caramelized sauce.
He also added the eggs too early and the rice too late. And aromatics go in first, in quick succession, followed by hard veg, then that gets pushed aside for the egg which should be quickly topped with rice. after a couple of tosses, add in softer veg and spices, soy sauce and other liquids, then finally any pre-cooked meats.

Anime essentials (series): Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Rouroni Kenshin. For films: Akira, the Studio Ghibli movies, and Vampire Hunter D.
I'd recommend all Ghibli movies for a good starting point when it comes to watching anime, I think the food in some of them is drawn looking really tasty.
Yeah, anime movies are definitely a good starting point. Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, Satoshi Kon, Makoto Shinkai, etc. I kind of see them as the gateway to anime if you don't know someone's preferences (not everyone going to like the mainstream shows like Naruto or Black Butler, for example)
They were probably literally requested in every other video he has ever done, except Babish was probably waiting for the Crunchyroll check to clear before he released this video LOL
Cowboy Bebop is my favorite and a great one for newcomers. I find that it's very accessible because of its atmosphere that feels like a blend of American noir/French new wave/John Woo action/Scifi. Its soundtrack is also a lot of jazz and blues. Highly recommend it!
You have huge amount of material if you are brave enough to delve into the realm of anime food. Studio Ghibli movies always have amazing food in them, the spirited away feast is AMAZING !
i always recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood its super good and easy to get into!great characters, cool story, and super funny while the action sequences are Awesome (also Spirited Away is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time so id definitely give it a go)
Imagine the intro. Babish: welcome back to binging with babish and today we're talking a look in the AOT's most consumed food, humans. Of course, I get these fresh human bodies from my trusty friend from dark web.
Cowboy Bebop is also one that will be suggested a lot for three reasons: 1. It's really popular with western audiences 2. It's a blend of japanese and western conventions and 3. It's fucking amazing.
Literally any food from any Studio Ghibli movie would be rad. Ramen in Ponyo. That Fish pie thing that looks SO GOOD from Kikis Delivery Service. Theres this stew/porridge stuff in Princess Mononoke. Theres a BUNCH of different foods in Spirited Away that all looks INCREDIBLE including what I THINK are soup dumplings.
Totally agree! I would love it if he did the whole spread of parents-to-pigs from Spirited Away, but Ramen with ham from Ponyo would be a little more reasonable :)
Liz Lorenzsonn I think he could do the pork. But then again, Miyazaki himself makes ramen.. but as a fan of food wars.. this was a weird start for Andrew.
@@haziqhaziq5550 I'm not gonna lie: as strange as the ingredients he used were, the result looked really appetizing. Gues that's Baratie-grade chef skills at work.
Doubt you'll read this, but figured I'd throw my thoughts into the ring on what anime you should watch. These are very good suggestions for newer watchers as they don't go into some really weird anime tropes / Japanese culture that might not be understandable to someone who doesn't follow the stuff heavily. - Cowboy Bebop - Classic "Western in Space" that is great for newcomers as it doesn't go way overboard in Japanese weirdness. - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Very complex and interesting anime that delves into an interesting future. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Alter Carbon on Netflix. - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Great story with lots of ups and downs and interesting things going on. - Death Note - Like a giant game of cat-and-mouse between two brilliant masterminds trying to figure out how to defeat the other in a battle of wits. - Code Geass (either version) - Interesting story with some very fun characters. - One Punch Man - Hilariously weird, awesome, and over the top at the same time. - Parasyte - Tons of character development and some great fight scenes. - Samurai Champloo - Rivalry between two completely different samurai who must work together to survive. - Trigun - Western set in the future on a remote desert planet, it can get a little weird at times, but has very enjoyable characters. - Psycho-Pass - Weird cyberpunk story with a few interesting twists. There are quite a lot of great ones out there, but this is a good list to get you started. Not sure how much food is included in them though... but I'm sure you could find some stuff to make it work.
Bear with me. I love anime as much as film and comics and cooking. I've watched it for most of my 32 years on this planet, so this will be long. A really good, food-themed anime that is currently airing on Crunchyroll is Ms. Koizumi Love Ramen. It explores a lot of variations of ramen, from fancy local variations, ramen made in McDonalds, increadibly dfferent forms of instant ramen (and me learning how crap our top ramen is as a result), and how ramen's growing global popularity has created an even bigger variety of ramen types, such as a German ramen that's topped with saurkraut, featured in an episode going over the Shin-Yokohama Ramen museum (it's really more a gint ramen mall/food court set up.) There's also a lot of food in YURI!!! on Ice, though it's mainly about professional competative ice skating. Because it's a global sport and the characters are national bests in the story, there's a lot of world travel, and the eyecatches for commercial breaks are typically food. There's also a major point of tonkastudon, or pork cutlet bowls, being that they're the favorite food of the titular Yuuri Katsuki, and his similarly-named rival, Yuri Pliestsky, becomes an introduction for a unique variation of the popular Japanese dish. The films of Studio Ghibli (Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, to name a few) are also well loved around the world and well known for having absolutely gorgeous animated food. Stepping away from food in anime, it's really a fantastic art form that really covers so many different sub-genres and has created many more. There's honestly an anime for everyone out there. A ton of people are recommending Bebop, and I can't argue with that. In the same vein of highly cinematic films, pretty much anything by Satoshi Kon. If anime ever produced an auteur aside from Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki, it was Satoshi Kon. He created fantastic and mature films such as Perfect Blue, Paprika, Millenium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers. I'll also throw in Samurai Champloo, which was done by the same studio as Cowboy Bebop. Great story with an excellent chillhop soundtrack. Sailor Moon is what got me into anime and is a must for the magical girl genre. I can't recommend a bigginer binge all 200 episodes of the original, but I do recommend at least watching Sailor Moon Crystal, which is a shorter take that fits more closely to its original manga form. For the sheer gorgeousness of them, though, I also recommend watching some of Sailor Moon S on Hulu. The best animation in the original series is mainly from that season and the dirrector went on to animate another girl-centered classic of the '90s, Revolutionary Girl Utena, which I also highly recommend and is available on Hulu. It's even more gorgeous and is a lot more grown up compared to Sailor Moon. Also in the vein of classic magical girl anime is Cardcaptor Sakura. All of that and the new series continuing it is available on Crunchyroll. For the shounen, or young men's action, titles, people will likely recommend DragonBallZ. Unfortunately, unless you watch the abridged parody on RUclips, there is no short way of getting into this show as there's no short remake, as Sailor Moon has. So instead, I recommend My Hero Academia. Fun show that really recaptures what was great and charming about the genre as a whole. There's also Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on Netflix, which I recommend over the original version. YuYuHakusho is also an excellent '90s anime for this genre. High school slice of life is also a huge thing in anime, and even in that, you have a wide variety of takes on it, from slapstick comedy to first-love stories to heartbreaking dramas to stuff that's just plain weird. I'd recommend Girl's Monthly Nozaki-kun for something mainly comedic, Kimi ni Todoke (From Me to You) for something sweet, and Kare Kano for something both and a little more old school. Other recs I'll throw in: Evangelion (the original series and only the first two of the newer movies), Escaflowne, pretty much any Gundam series except for Seed, the Ancient Magus' Bride, Trigun, Lupin the 3rd, Fate/Zero, and Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic.
Yakitate Japan is an anime all about competitive baking. It goes into the science of baking and you can tell it directly influence the creator of Food Wars. There are so many different breads and pastries featured in it that you could make, but among my favorites are the green turtle bread, japan # 44 made using a petalite stone in the oven, and the castella. Hope you decide to check it out and one of the breads interests you!
Start with Cowboy Bebop. A lot of anime has weird Japanese tropes in them but Cowboy Bebop had none of them. It's a space western about bounty hunters so it doesn't get any cooler than that.
Yea Cowboy Bebop is one of the less "animeish" anime there is, great for someone new to the medium. Plus, the recipe for bell peppers and beef is top tier.
lol there nothing wrong with the tropes unless your some conservative Christian. He can start anywhere I love cowboy bebop it’s actually the first anime I ever watched still I think it’s a bit overrated.
Hayao Miyazaki has some of the best looking foods in any of his films. He also makes films that I would definitely suggest for non-anime lovers and anime lovers alike.
Now that you dipped your toe into the anime pool, I suggest anything by Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli. Lots of food opportunities to give you inspiration.
Babish: I've never really been into anime and this is an exciting opportunity for me to learn about a new art form. I just wanted to ask you guys, what is your favorite thing to show newcomers to the genre? The comments: 3:45
joshua ash He’s made apple pie a couple times before, so I doubt he’ll make another one. But the stew is a good way to go! I don’t think he’s ever made a stew before, and it’s a nice staple dish, so maybe we can persuade him!
Cowboy Bebop is widely considered one of the finest of all time. It's a great starting point for short series. FMA Brotherhood is a great starting point if you want to experience an amazing long-haul. It's incredibly popular and is considered to be one of the very few actually /very popular/ anime that has come out in recent years that is actually good.
If you looking for an anime to start with I always reccomend full metal alchemist brotherhood. It is beautiful full of heart and some of the best story telling in anime that will leave you guessing till the end.
Ehhhhh. Samurai Champloo has fantastic visuals, but I always warn people that if they watch Champloo they need to know it's an almost ENTIRELY episodic show--e.g. the storylines between each episode are only loosely connected, and there shouldn't be expectation that any characters will recur or plots will be revealed to be connected. As long as someone goes in knowing that, I think they'll enjoy it.
I don't think he did the dish right . . . he still has his clothes on.

This is the right list
Binging with Babish , This list is spot on.
Bell peppers and beef
I'd recommend all Ghibli movies for a good starting point when it comes to watching anime, I think the food in some of them is drawn looking really tasty.
Heart There's really a difference with watching a Ghibli movie and watching an anime tv show.
Yeah, anime movies are definitely a good starting point. Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, Satoshi Kon, Makoto Shinkai, etc. I kind of see them as the gateway to anime if you don't know someone's preferences (not everyone going to like the mainstream shows like Naruto or Black Butler, for example)
you just literally open the flood gate of food wars request.
They were probably literally requested in every other video he has ever done, except Babish was probably waiting for the Crunchyroll check to clear before he released this video LOL
deadtrooper7777
Not as much or as many as the “OMGSWEETROLLPLZ!!!” requests if you ask me.
"what are your suggestions?"
boku no pico trolls : allow us to introduce ourselves.
I hate how true and legit it is
I have not seen a single comment on that
Why do you exist.
Media Addict holy shit you're a nerd
Media Addict YES definitely Studio Ghibli films!
Saikø I’m guessing that’s a good thing 🙃
Saikø !!! Ironic
Studio Ghibli food fo sho
You NEED to make chef tonio's Italian dishes from Jojo's bizarre adventure!
Make the whole meal, damn it!
YES
PLUS THE SQUID INK PASTA FROM PART 2!

i always recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood its super good and easy to get into!great characters, cool story, and super funny while the action sequences are Awesome (also Spirited Away is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time so id definitely give it a go)
Kaleb Spratt that's my favorite show and movie. You win the comments section
anime is gay and japan isn't a real language
seconded, came down here to comment nearly exactly that 👍
Babish, I suggest Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, My Hero Academia, any Studio Ghibli movie, and One Punch Man.
literally commented Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood lol
I really wanted to see Babish have a foodgasm
I'm sure we ALL want to see what's under that apron hmmm.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
A man can dream
Lana Del Bae I bet it's still hidden behind another glorious beard
you should just make all the food from food wars. it will keep you going for 15 years
I mean, if we're talking about food in anime, The Promised Neverland, Attack On Titan, and Tokyo Ghoul are good starters-- 👀
Yum😋 humans
^^ omg no you went there xDDDD
The ramen in dr stone is nothing to scoff at either
Ya right! XD
Steven Broka no one cares weeb
Binging With Babish is my favourite anime
I knew crunchy roll would get to you. _I just didn’t think it would be so soon._
Sad times
You have to do "Gotcha Pork" from Shokugeki No Souma. "Meat Juices!"
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE DAY YOU WOULD DO A FOOD WARS RECIPE
@janna me too, he did a basic dish tho. i expected a way difficult one
ME TOO HE NEEDS TO DO MORE!!!
Literally any food from any Studio Ghibli movie would be rad. Ramen in Ponyo. That Fish pie thing that looks SO GOOD from Kikis Delivery Service. Theres this stew/porridge stuff in Princess Mononoke. Theres a BUNCH of different foods in Spirited Away that all looks INCREDIBLE including what I THINK are soup dumplings.
yup can't go wrong with studio ghibli
Totally agree! I would love it if he did the whole spread of parents-to-pigs from Spirited Away, but Ramen with ham from Ponyo would be a little more reasonable :)
Liz Lorenzsonn I think he could do the pork. But then again, Miyazaki himself makes ramen.. but as a fan of food wars.. this was a weird start for Andrew.
Omg please do Studio Ghibli food!
Aran Reddington Naruto is my favorite studio Ghibli film. Completely underrated.
Cowboy Bebop has an episode where they only have Shitake Mushrooms and they make like 5 different dishes with it. You should watch/do that one!
The episode is called, "Mushroom Samba"
Also the beef and bell pepper stir fry without the beef. lol
You have to make Sanji’s dishes from One Piece
underrated comment
the ones where he make dishes from fish guts.
WEDDING CAKEEEE
@@haziqhaziq5550 I'm not gonna lie: as strange as the ingredients he used were, the result looked really appetizing. Gues that's Baratie-grade chef skills at work.

I wanna see you do more Food Wars foods.
Emmanuel Selvas You mean you don't wanna see Babish having a food orgasm?
Wow, someone is really pissed......
Emmanuel Selvas damn dude calm down
Emmanuel Selvas why dont u fuck offXD
I made the fried chicken from the show. It's delicious.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
The Golden Boy Hunter x Hunter is pretty good too

Stefan Lopuszanski -takes notes-
Stefan Lopuszanski you forgot Bleach. the best anime.
Sisonpyh M Convoluted story but nostalgic if you grew up on it. Wouldn't say it's even in the top 10 but the fight scenes and art are great.
Great list, have a like.
Stefan Lopuszanski and evangelion, classic mindfuck with giant, fighting robots and angst
I NEED MORE FROM "FOOD WARS" AKA SHOKUGEKI NO SOMA
Bear with me. I love anime as much as film and comics and cooking. I've watched it for most of my 32 years on this planet, so this will be long.
A really good, food-themed anime that is currently airing on Crunchyroll is Ms. Koizumi Love Ramen. It explores a lot of variations of ramen, from fancy local variations, ramen made in McDonalds, increadibly dfferent forms of instant ramen (and me learning how crap our top ramen is as a result), and how ramen's growing global popularity has created an even bigger variety of ramen types, such as a German ramen that's topped with saurkraut, featured in an episode going over the Shin-Yokohama Ramen museum (it's really more a gint ramen mall/food court set up.)
There's also a lot of food in YURI!!! on Ice, though it's mainly about professional competative ice skating.
Other recs I'll throw in: Evangelion (the original series and only the first two of the newer movies), Escaflowne, pretty much any Gundam series except for Seed, the Ancient Magus' Bride, Trigun, Lupin the 3rd, Fate/Zero, and Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic.
dude how much can one person comment
Chris M. Liryo weeb
Fuckin weeb
But I also liked the comment
weeb.... but the essay is pretty comprehensive so im giving it a like
Yakitate Japan is an anime all about competitive baking. It goes into the science of baking and you can tell it directly influence the creator of Food Wars. There are so many different breads and pastries featured in it that you could make, but among my favorites are the green turtle bread, japan # 44 made using a petalite stone in the oven, and the castella. Hope you decide to check it out and one of the breads interests you!
its called the 'crown of a pineapple'. you're welcome
Dragon Dung what anime is that?
Marcos Rivera I can’t tell if you’re serious or not....
Nam Nguyen that's sad
Marcos Rivera I believe he's answering what the leafy top of the pineapple is called lol
Greg's Ecstasy *jokes* they're called jokes.
Silver Spoon! It's about a guy who goes to a farming school and it's awesome!
They do a take on Pizza that's interesting. Using Gouda cheese instead of Mozzarella
Watching with Weebish
UnPhayzable that would be funny
I think we have our winner.
Why do I see you everywhere
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood has got to be the best anime I ever watched.
Agreed
my third favourite
I’m not a huge anime fan, but I think Cowboy Bebop is a must watch. Not just a great anime but and amazing show in general.
I demand Babish to make a video on Ichiraku Ramen from Naruto while wearing a headband
UnPhayzable won't be able to see the headband that much xD
Hypeeeee
UnPhayzable hahah that would be a interesting video
Problem is he has already done a ramen video
good idea!

The "Gotcha Pork Roast" from Food Wars needs to be done!
More of Food Wars please. PLEASE!!!
Cowboy bebop. You will love the music
Yeah, make "beef" and peppers from ep1
my recommend too! plus the dub is great
Samurai Champloo has great music too.
and great food!!! Samurai champloo is a must for Mr. Babish!
Adarsh J that's because they have the same creator!
You gotta make one of the infamous JoJo Spaghetti, either the Black Squid ink from part 2 or the Alla Puttanesca from part 4.
Nielspiels yes please
Nielspiels oh my god yes, JoJo is great and the food is awesome when it shows up (part 4 is the spotlight though)
Caesar Pancake
Santa Poot lol he went there
Shitbird...
Please do more food wars I’d love to see how that stuff would look and taste
Start with Cowboy Bebop. A lot of anime has weird Japanese tropes in them but Cowboy Bebop had none of them. It's a space western about bounty hunters so it doesn't get any cooler than that.
James Pauliny I agree. He could make the parasite flubber thing.
I agree, also death note. The overly gimmicky characters from any usual anime don't bother fans but they could deter newcomers.
Hard bolied eggs!
Lots of food opportunities to give you inspiration.
angryandroid just don't play the video of the food or his video will get taken down before you can say dmca abuse.
Babish: I've never really been into anime and this is an exciting opportunity for me to learn about a new art form. I just wanted to ask you guys, what is your favorite thing to show newcomers to the genre?
The comments: 3:45
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. Either the granny's stew or the hues family's apple pie from the show.
joshua ash He’s made apple pie a couple times before, so I doubt he’ll make another one. But the stew is a good way to go! I don’t think he’s ever made a stew before, and it’s a nice staple dish, so maybe we can persuade him!
Weebing With Babish
Every day we stray further from God's light
This is funny but I'm a weeb so I don't want to discourage him. To like or to dislike that is the question
why do I get the feeling if i check this comment tomorrow its going to have a long list of people yelling at each other.
Anime is trash and so am I
I was dying of cringe there.
Idk if it's the "finest" lol, it's certainly entertaining though.
sailor moon is everything good about anime and its good for starters too
he can make sausage and peppers haha
I second Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Everything OP said but start with FMA 2003
We need more food wars dishes. That show is a culinary goldmine. Make peanut butter dipped octopus tentacles!
Samurai Champloo.
Ugunti Itnugu he can literally make Seafood Champuroo as or just the Udon from the eating contest episode
By far one of the best soundtracks of any anime.
Since they are wanderers, they do talk a lot about food in the show lol
My wish is coming true. Please do more Food Wars recipes. Yakitate Japan is another awesome culinary anime but focusing on baking
NikToonz hell yea. I was waiting to see a yakitate Japan vote. Dude the melon bread would be amazing.
Need some reaction footage when you make and eat any dish from these 2 shows.
hella yea. Yakitate! Japan has the recipes at the end of the manga chapters.
That's literally my most favorite anime
Watch Cowboy Bebop, then make us some bell peppers and beef.
Additionally, you could make the ramen from Naruto, though other people have.
I think Alan Bayman hit it on the nose with Cowboy Beebop, but i would also add Samurai Champloo which is from the same creators. Good stuff.
but there's no beef in this bell peppers and beef. so you wouldn't really call it bell peppers and beef.
Kevin Varela it is when you're broke
Blutz Waves WELL IT’S NOT!!!
If you looking for an anime to start with I always reccomend full metal alchemist brotherhood. It is beautiful full of heart and some of the best story telling in anime that will leave you guessing till the end.
Samari Champloo you wont regret it
It was done by the same artist that did bebop
Jacob Dieffenbach it's the perfect starter anime
