The "this world will know pain" line is a surprise, but completely welcome.
The pain was realized when those couple sliced onions exited the Dutch oven RIP!!!
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
@Don't Read My Profile Photo fine, I won't.
Too much D in this comment
between the peppers and cutting onions he knew pain making this and needed the rest to know.
I'm so happy that Andrew adopted Alvin and saving him from buzzfeed
Why, did something happen there?
It's buzzfeed lol. It's all just vapid clickbaiting and is a highly thankless job because there's very little way for journalists to inject their own personality
@@shroomfruit345 as far as i understand buzzfeed in general is just really exploitative of their "famous"/"viral" employees and creators, hence why the Try Guys left and created their own compant, same with the Unsolved guys who are now Watcher, and a bunch of other creators from their "golden age" in the mid 2010s.
Adopted is such a strange verb to use
@@sweettea3879 It is accurate though. It's not like Babish adopted Alvin to be his CHILD; he was simply adopted to their CREW.
"THIS WORLD WILL KNOW PAIN" spoken like a true and on of the best antagonists of the series.
... the fact that Alvin turned from soft golden baking boi on his own channel to "THIS WORLD WILL KNOW PAIN" on here.. is poetry.. It's perfection... it's Life 🤩
The realization that he found Pain after that first bite was pretty fantastic.
He might have found Pain but he didn't know Pain till much later.
I don't recall this. Remind me?
When will you make a cameo on the Babish Universe?
@@FantomMind 😂 always worse on exit
@@bradohms lol. I’m glad someone got the reference. :’D
What's funny is that, by and large, Japan's spice tolerance is fairly low, so if the Curry of Life is just considered "pretty spicy" by Japan's standards and can wake up an unconscious person, Alvin's Curry of Life might be spicy enough to also wake the dead 😳
That's why it's the Curry of Life!
The curry is so powerful it creates babies out of nowhere which then leads to overpopulation and the downfall of mankind
Alvin what have you done D:
I think in the anime(albeit this is a filler arc), they did wake people from death(Electrocution IIRC), so yeah, that'd still be pretty canon.
Or wake a completely asleep human
This is what Kakashi and Sakura used to wake everyone from the Infinite Tsukuyomi. It just happened off-screen.
I was honestly AMAZED that you didn't go right to the squid ink for the colour, I was totally expecting that to be the secret ingredient.
Those bits of onion were absolutely killing me this episode
The ending scene with everyone trying it and instantly regretting it reminds me of my college days. One guy in the apartment has a hot sauce collection, and we would all try them and end up looking like you and your coworkers haha
^ I was always a big fan of spicy stuff and pork scratchings so my parents got me some ghost pepper pork scratchings which I graciously shared with my housemates. I think one of them ended up being sick in the toilet later so you can tell it went down well.
@@GCOSBenbow My friend had some habañero pork scratchings that had me on the verge of tears on the toilet seat the next morning, I don't wanna know what ghost pepper ones would be like.
@@yunglink992 Well the fact you made it to sitting on the toilet should tell you enough eh? :P
This was probably one of my favorite arcs from the og naruto, both cause of the bit with the curry and because i absolutely adore rock lee and any arc that gives him his well deserved time to shine is great.
This has been my favourite Anime with Alvin so far.
Keep in mind that in many dishes, you don’t even really eat the Sichuan chilies. Restaurants normally just use it roughly chopped for flavoring. So imagine eating them blended up in a sauce
I def eat some of the chilies throughout the meal because the surge of endorphins is unmatched. XD But i am also lovingly called a freak of humanity by my other spicy tolerant friends so my judgment may be off.
@@stephadoodledoo I know exactly what you mean by the surge of endorphins. I was at a ramen place and asked if they had any secret off the menu hot sauce. They had concentrated chili oil from Trinidad Black Scorpion peppers. After the first ten minutes of flamethrower mouth, the rest was surprisingly delicious!
Wait I'm not expected to eat the sichuan chili chunks??
This is especially the case with dishes like Laziji where the chilis are really heaped up there. Eat the chilis if you dare, but it's going to be a bad time for you in overnight.
@@jonathanreiter2852 I'm so glad I have a cast iron stomach. I feel sorry for the people who get the "chili ring" the next day. 😆
I love that alvin turned red-pink just like rock lee when he ate the curry!
It was kinda fun to look at their reactions and picture different characters reacting that way lol
The realization that he found Pain after that first bite was pretty fantastic🥰❤️❤️
Admittedly the curry of life arc was my favourite of the naruto filler arcs
What episode number?
So true
@@organizerbmo 152
especially watching Neji passing out twice after being fed the curry. That guy has no resistance to spicy food.
It's one of the better pretimeskip fillers. Kishimoto even made the main villain canon in Might Guy's flashback
Those three onion pieces left on the stove made me want to cry.
I’m like that watching cooking vids where they throw ingredients in without scraping the bowl so end up leaving tons of stuff behind. OCD + Asian LOL
Agreed. Onions do usually make me cry... but these ones did for a different reason XD
That 3rd one just magically appeared.
"The world will know pain" such a wonderful way of spoken
So happy that you decided to do this recipe, this is one of my favorite episodes of Naruto!!
I don't know if y'all had heard of this, but in haitian cooking we have a mushroom we use called Djon-Djon that is basically a very deep black coloring. You can get usually get them from anywhere that has a sufficient supply of haitian foodstuffs, but it does also come in stock cube form too. It may not get it as deep black as food coloring, but it probably would add more to the flavor of any dish that needs to be black
Yessss!!! We have a huge dried packet of the stuff, personally it's my least favorite haitian dish, but my mom absolutely loves it, something about the food neing thay dark in color throws me off 😩
@@nattycat14 See we just use the bullion cubes at my place and it turns out nice, I'm pretty sure they're Maggi brand
i don´t know man, sounds too french for me
@@marianocolsin8968 I can promise you that djondjon is not French, don't let the Haitian Kreyol fool you
What's the flavor profile comparable to?
Anime with Alvin just keeps getting better. Please keep him around as long as he wishes to be there. This really made my morning and sets me into a mood to have a great day! Big fan of both Naruto and all Anime with Alvin that I have seen so far, even if I don't always know the anime.
So just as a note, there's a Sri Lankan 'Black Curry' made with a dark roasted curry powder.
It's quite distinctive and nice, the roasted powder is very dark, and has no chilies; you have to add those separately.
There also does seem to be a 'black curry' thing from Japan, which uses a small bit of charcoal (careful with that stuff, it can mess with digestion).
Other note with carcoal. It can mess with medications.
Active charcoal absorbs essential nutrients and causes deficiencies.
On one hand, activated charcoal has detoxifying properties and can be used as a remedy for some poisonings. On the other hand, it can do what Clove said. It’s something else to be used responsibly.
@@karaoconnoraliasraidraYou are effectively eating a dry sponge when you eat activated charcoal, and it does not discriminate with what it absorbs.
Do NOT eat things with activated charcoal if you're on some kind of medication, especially if it's birth control or HRT. Safe alternatives to charcoal include black cocoa powder and squid ink, either of which would make for an interesting curry.
“This world will know pain” hah nailed it 😂
I think by the end of the day the world will know that chili pain hits twice 🤣
So will their B*ttholes
I sure love the closed captions for the episode saying "(speaking in a foreign language)"
Try drinking pineapple juice instead of milk with spicy foods. For this dish, I would recommend a pineapple mango boba, the mix of acidity and basic with the sugars should help neutralize the spice and the slight fats should help absorb the spices to get them off your tongue.
Interesting, thanks!
Being lactose intolerant this is a great tip, thanks!
this should get a pin.
@@kaukospots you're out of luck here too then, boba teas usually contain milk
@@simeonellinger2064 But couldn't it be a fruit tea boba instead? Those don't have milk
I love how Alvin keeps saying the Curry of Life could wake someone up with one bite when all it does to Neji (may he rest in peace) is knock him out XD
This is amazing! BRAVO!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The only filler episode that got acknowledged as canon for everyone
The look on Andrew's face, priceless!!
Most devastating moment of the video at 2:07 My fallen onion soldiers, rip
This is when i knew i was in the filler arc, but who knew how many years that would last.
Those bits of onion were absolutely killing me this
Thank you, Alvin, for your bold sacrifice. This is definitely a dish I’ve wanted to try since I was a child lol and the Nigerian in me is curious as to how I’ll fare against the spice level!
I couldn't stop from wondering when you would move that bit of onion you dropped on the stove.
Perfect winter food
During Covid when I lost my taste I started eating extreme spicy foods. And this curry is making my mouth water.
That's funny, one of my family members was born without a sense of taste so he puts hot sauce on everything. Maybe he'd like this.
This makes me wonder...Is spicy a taste, or is it a sensation? Can you still "taste" spicy foods if you have no sense of taste?
@@PassTheMarmalade1957
Spicines is pain.
It is a sensation similar to what you experience when you touch a nettle
Could it be possible that they either numbed their tastebuds too much or completely dead to any feeling?
@@PassTheMarmalade1957 spicy itself isn't a taste. It's a feeling. A lot of the times, that taste that goes a long with spice is usually the natural smell or taste of pepper or other herbs in the dish
THIS VIDEO IS GIVING ME SO MUCH LIFE LIKE THE CURRY!
100 likes and no reply, i can fix that
Need to try this recipes
I really wanna try this myself now
As a huge Naruto fan, this makes me so happy. Thanks for including all the funny puns and references too!
For the next Anime with Alvin episode I’d love to see Mushroom Gratin from “The Misfit of Demon King Academy”, or maybe Mincemeat Cutlet from “Restaurant to Another World”!
Great idea!
He can also try the dishes from Isekai Izakaya Nobu. Nice anime. Or maybe he can do the teriyaki burger and it's grilled rice bun counterpart in Restaurant to Another World season 2. YES THERE IS A SEASON 2 FANS!
@@AC-ni4gt Restaurant to Another World just hits different from other food anime. You can really feel the atmosphere of the restaurant
I already felt it and got extremely sad that it ended at season 2
Very informative
i will definitely try this
Almost 10mil! Congrats Babish, you've made so many people much better cooks and given us some extremely entertaining content along the way
I have enjoyed listening to kakashi sensei's monologue as he cooks
When he said "This world will know pain", I SMELLED THAT
the way your face turned red!! truly like the anime
Wonderful
A lot of people hate the filler episodes for Naruto but I can't help but love them because he gives us great character development for some and very very hilarious moments. Case-in-point the curry of life and Lee 🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂
I made black curry about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately I'm allergic to seafood and had to make a version without squid-ink.
NOTE ON GRINDING YOUR OWN CHILI PEPPERS: The dust created in a food processor or electric spice grinder will be like getting maced. Wear a respirator if you have one. I personally recommend grinding in a manual food mill or tobacco shredder to get fine flakes instead.
Edit: For the black color, you can also darken the curry with your own mixture of espresso powder, dark chocolate, soy sauce, dark brown sugar, oyster sauce (vegan options available), oxidized grated apple, a splash of blueberry or blackberry juice, using purple potatoes instead of white and pan-roasting some Japanese or Korean curry power until it is almost burnt. It also helps to mix the curry powder from scratch and omit any yellows like turmeric.
Turmeric is like a key seasoning tho
@@felixlara2945 It doesn't add much flavor in something as bold as a Japanese style curry. While they do include it in their curry powder, it is mostly to help get that rich brown color. For black curry, you need to bring out more of the reds, blues and purples. Since brown is a shade of orange, adding in yellow will shift it back to brown.
Man, in indonesia we use a fruit called kluek to adding black color.
You can imagine Pain's animation when he said "this world will know pain".
That end product reminded me of my most recent batch of enchiladas, I had made the sauce. Had it all ready to go, but my mom tasted it and thought "hey, this has way too much bitter. Needs more spice to cover that up". Which is what the meat, onions, and cheese do. But she ground up like, an additional 6-8 dried chili peppers and mixed it into my sauce without telling me. I was probably physically sweating more than my nose was running, and I thought multiple times "this is what pure capsaicin must feel like"
Ugh, though. It's your recipe, why interfere?
Great work
My brother and I still reference this episode when we make curry. Now you need to make the perfect red version.
you forgot the addition of a live turtle! this arch was sort of silly, but i really liked it because we got to learn about rock lee. the black curry always stuck out to me. Also! Ive never seen the extra hot curry! i can only ever find the hot kind. i always thought it was silly that it was labeled hot. its very mild in comparison to even hot chips.
There is such thing as Extra Hot curry roux cubes. I don't eat those since my spice tolerance is able to tolerate Mild levels.
Babish looking like "I've been on Hot Ones; how bad could it be?" And then he eats it.
The Curry of Life arc was literally one of my favorite Naruto arcs back in my childhood and I am so glad Alvin managed to recreate it!
Too bad we don't get to see Neji eat this, but wow, that looked really spicy!
🥵🌶
we actually do get to see neji eat it later on, he just about had the same reaction as everyone else
@@therevolutioniscoming315 yeah, I know, I was referring to Alvin's rendition. Maybe it would wake Neji back ro the living
@@wolfishluppa ahh, alright
Love the crew reactions to the curry
Excellent
this is one of the best Anime With Alvin episodes, just because of everyone's reactions.
Therapist: Jet-black curry isn't real. It can't hurt you.
Jet-black curry:
Happy mood
insane. never thought I'd see this come to life.
Thank you Alvin and Babish team!
Hahaha, just in time! I finished watching those episodes like 2 days ago. Gonna try it and see if it can bring me back to life 😂😂
Maybe I will be the drunken fist master when I add some wine. Poor Lee! 😆
I love how he talks about the food as if they are friends, he is like a chef Bob ross
Finally, I learn how to make curry
I'm actually really happy that Alvin has explored a dish from a filler arc of Naruto! And that means he also gets to attempt the Perfect Ramen Noodles Ichiraku needed to make for food ninjas to get his beloved daughter Ayame back!
I would love to see him attempt his version of ramen noodles even though Andrew has already done so on his basics with babish series 👍
I love that this is a video so much!! Thank you for making this 😭
Brilliant work amazing recipe
This is the kinda curry that would stimulate the taste buds of Dave Lister (He only has two working taste buds)
As much as I love the channel as a whole, I can confidently say Alvin's series is my favorite.
Happy for Andrew job
Outstanding
Why do I still want to try it, despite that ending lol
Alvin (and the team!), these videos are beyond fantastic thank you
wonderful
Fine
dude you have no idea how long i have been waiting for this! this is the curry recipe i have been searching for! been on a quest to make curry ever since
I am happy to that Andrew adopt alvin and save him
Need to try this recipe!
“I think he likes it”
*Andrew regretting his life decisions*
Nice to see everyone sharing the pain. everyone instantly regretting it was fun to watch.
Amazing work
5:30 Alvin hits his edge arc
loved seeing everyone's reactions to trying the curry, you can feel the pain in each and every second of it
Given the reactions you guys had to the curry, I'm pretty sure you hit the nail straight on the head there. I think I might have seen QUITE a bit of red on everyone's faces afterwards, haha
Nice information
I'm so happy for adopted alvin
Campfire cooking in another world is a goldmine for Alvin. Looking forward to a recipe from the series!
He should have done a video based on that series already, even if it is new
can't wait for alvin and the rest of the babish crew hunt down a chimera for a video!
I’ve been waiting for this my entire life 🔥
Fantastic
like to imagine babish voiced the last part right after eating the curry, so he's just crying and sweating in his office while just chugging milk straight from the bottle
The part where he knocked some onion out while stirring made me feel a lot better about my own cooking lol
Great job
"Curry of Life" I loved those episodes. Lee was the only one who truly enjoyed it.
By seeing everyone’s reacting I think it’s safe to say this was a raging success.
Great
Now I know how to make curry. I think, however, that I can skip the whole pepper overkill though 😋
True always set the level of heat to your liking
Unless I'm mistaken, he also adds a live turtle.😅 I'm very glad you didn't include that, if only for the turtle's sake!😂 Thank you for the video!
This reminds me of the video 'about to eat' and when the guys used chocolate, in the video Inga uses dark chocolate for her curry I was wondering if your curry could to? 🙃
I love how it's called the curry of life when it's really the curry of suffering 🤣
