For those who are interested, SPY x FAMILY is loosely based on East / West Germany. Interpreting this dish as a central European stew is about as accurate as it gets.

Well, maybe yes but there is actually an old goulash recipe from Vienna called "Fiakergulasch" (horse-drawn carriage goulash),
that is nearly the same dish you are cooking here...
That's a classic beef goulash with, no joke, Hot Dog Sausages, a sunny side-fried egg and (that one is missing here) pickled gherkin.

I didn’t realize that there were multiple kinds of goulash. Growing up goulash in our home for our family consisted of ground beef, elbow macaroni noodles whatever vegetables we had on hand (peas corn carrots) in a tomato sauce. It was a relatively inexpensive meal to make and we used to make heaps of it and have it for leftovers for a week.

I made this myself, it is actually a FANTASTIC recipe. I would definitely recommend adding the hotdogs, they add another dimension of flavor that you otherwise wouldn't have. The only change I would recommend is adding more vegetables, since the amount of liquid you put in there can easily hold more veggies than what he has.

Genuinely unsure if Alvin had more fun making the dishes or the script.

Where did you find the chonkie carrots? American carrots are usually very thin by comparison. I've never seen one that girthy in an American supermarket, I only ever see them in anime or Japanese cooking channels.

I usually find them at my local Latin market. They're chonky and really great for making Viet pickles or making Nigerian potato/yam pottage.

Whenever I see 'gulash', I'm reminded of the game, Quest for Glory V. Your character stays at Gnome Ann's Inn, where Gnome Ann sadly explains every weird dish you're served in terrifying detail, like salmon pancakes with pistachio cream. When she serves you goulash, the part where she usually explains the dish, she instead says, "You don't want to know. You REALLY don't want to know".

. . . And also we now know what happened to the cow from the school interview later on ^__^
And it kinda reminds me of Saitama: "A defeated enemy = free food"
