When I attended the grade school and northern Florida, We were bused to Milton from Whiting Field NAS, And we often sang a version of this song and other songs connected to military service..
Fort Jackson Army Basic Training 1975 The drill sergeants belted this out and we repeated each line in cadence with our marching . Along with several others - such as : The prettiest girl ( platoon ) repeat I ever saw ( platoon ) repeat Was sippin ' bourbon ( platoon ) repeat Through a straw ( platoon ) repeat Her hair was gold ( platoon ) repeat Her eyes were blue ( platoon ) repeat And how those eyes ( platoon ) repeat Could flash at you ( platoon ) repeat Sound off ( platoon ) one two Sound off ( platoon ) three four Bring it on down now ( platoon ) one two three four one two three four Go left go left ( platoon ) repeat Go left right left ( platoon ) repeat Your military left ( platoon ) repeat Go left go right now pickup the steps now go left go right go left ( platoon ) repeat
same. But I can not for the life of me find the version we sang in primary school Australia. I might well have to do my own version. but trust me, no one gon like the music lol.
@@JasonBlack66 I FOUND A COMMENT FROM AUSTRALIA!! Yes, yes, we sang this song differently too! My music teacher was hilarious, and would always change the lyrics for songs we sung. I remember this much: "My gals a corker, she's a bush walker. I buy her everything to keep her in style. She's got a set of legs, just like two loafs of bread. HOT DOGS! That's where my money goes!" And then my music teacher would go "Oompah, oompah, oompah pah! Oompah, oompah, oompah pah!" for a bit before the next verse. I wonder if your teacher sung the same version? I went to school in rural Victoria, in case that is relevant.
My dad used to sing this song, God rest his soul. Thank you for posting this!
I haven't heard this song since I was a young girl, and to my surprise or horror I knew most of the words of the choruses.❤❤❤
My grandmother used to sing and play this for me...even made up her own verses...so funny. We sang a montage of her favorite songs including this one.
oh this brought back nice memories, we learned it a summer camp when I was 12, many moons ago ...
