My sister & I used to sing this while doing housework every Saturday. Mom insisted that the house was cleaned top to bottom every Saturday. So we'd divide the chores & do call & response from our separate corners. Fun!😅
I sing it to my grandchildren, along with another old favourite, Hello mother - Hello father. And, just sometimes, one of them spontaneously sings these old treasures. Bless. Can’t beat the old ones. 🥳😀
My primary school choir performed this in the mid 1960's. It was such a hit that all the surrounding schools invited us perform at their school concerts. I'm from South Africa and was approximately 11 years old then.
Every now and then I watch this and it improves my mood immediately. Aren't we men all like the old guy? Perhaps except for one son-in-law I have, who is a role model in everything. Definitely I am just like the old man ..
Bless you! It’s grannies like us that are keeping the gift of song alive! There is nothing more soothing to a child than a singing voice, especially directed towards them in particular. My little grandson used to listen rapt when I sang Under The Bamboo Tree to him… “ cos I luv a you and luv a you true and if you will luv a me…” Now he’s 18 and in the British Army and he remembers… Grannies rock! X
😹😹😹this reminded me of the days before my first marriage went sour, his name was Henry and when he came over to help with some work in the yard for my parents, Mom asked him to grab the bucket which he did and turned around and asked if we had another bucket as it had a hole, well Dad and I just could not help ourselves and we broke out singing this song😹😹😹😹
as a henry waterschoot i remember some jack and jill going up the hill to fetch a pail of water. today i remember a joe and jill biden going to capital hill in the west wing to pour water on the fire hunter biden started wit crack and other cocaine. time for the bidens to quit getting covid 19 in a covid 23 world. smoking joe biden smoked some of hunters political dino mite with j j walker.
My wife suffers from dementia and I can really feel for Henry and Liza, watching a loved one deteriorate is the hardest thing in the world. This brilliant performance made an old man weep.
I am so happy to have this show up. It was a childhood memory I had totally lost. It was sung and acted out at our church summer camp with the boys doing Henry and the girls Liza and our fearless camp counselor Hank leading and doing the rhythm on his big barrel chest. We would laugh so hard. Especially when Henry asked what to cut the straw with. We were country kids and knew very well that straws we utterly useless as stoppers, and of course could easily be broken with a fingernail. We had no idea anyone outside our church camping summer kids even knew this song.
Learnt this song back in thee late sixties ,my grand aunt always used to sing.we learnt it and sang it on our way to the river to get water.those were beautiful days. Thanks for wonderful memories
Hadn’t heard this song in decades,...at 64 old memories came flooding. Should try to sing this to my grandsons and see how they will like it. Thank you for the brilliant performance.
And I followed up and watched the song with the grandees. Reaction? They had watched the cartoon version already and older one said " I can't understand the problem ajji. (My language for granny). He could have bought a new bucket" .....😐😖
My aunty gave this song in 1961 I was 6.Even then I thought the singers `Harry Belafonte and Odetta hit it off briliantly and so funny live on stage.I know the words even to this day.
A child’s problem solving song. I always loved this song because it is full of humor and teaches us to troubleshoot our own problems because we can do it.💕🙏💕🙏
We taught it to our 4 year old and he would do the whole thing by himself perfectly. He went on to have a rewarding experience in drama in HS and is now Director of Advertising for KFC, 37 next month.
My brain has been racing all day I have been trying to slow it down and then this came along and helped greatly to slow it down, the music was relaxing, and Liza and Henry was fun to watch and made smile.
Old is definitely Gold. Funny and easy. To sing for anyone, child or adult without worrying what are the lyrics. Nothing to currupt the young mind. Me sweet memories
My teacher also at MGS Alexandria Egypt sing that for us in the class on 1972 then she ask us to perform it as Boys ( Henry ) & Girls ( Liza ) we all enjoy it very much ..... The words were a bit different
Oh my God I really feel so emotional after hearing this song for a second time after watching a duo of students performing on the school s stage some over 40 years ago Thank you very much❤❤❤
We used to sing this song in music class in elementary school. Mrs Hobbs taught hundreds of children in that small village. My mother taught in the same school. 29 years in the same room teaching the same grade. She was teaching the second generation of students when she retired. I was in her first class in that school.
I remember this song being played in Listener Choice of All India Radio as a kid the only English channel playing western music from 9.30 pm to 11.00 pm after decades i am able to listen to it thank you for uploading ,now that i am in late seventies i still enjoy listening🤣😀😂
I happened to listen this song as a teenager some 50 years ago. Radio Sri Lanka was a favourite station here in South India in the 60s. The song had a distinct gentre that caught my attention. It reaches one to to solve problems for themselves !

My Grandfather used to sing this song to my cousins and I when we were kids over fifty years ago.
My sister & I used to sing this while doing housework every Saturday. Mom insisted that the house was cleaned top to bottom every Saturday. So we'd divide the chores & do call & response from our separate corners. Fun!😅
😂
I still sing this song from when I was a kid in the 50’s. These two were brilliant. I laughed out loud.
I sing it to my grandchildren, along with another old favourite, Hello mother - Hello father. And, just sometimes, one of them spontaneously sings these old treasures. Bless. Can’t beat the old ones. 🥳😀
Me, too!
So do I and also was a kid in the 1950s
How time flies ‘Hole 🕳️in the B🪣t ‘😂
Harry Belafonte when he was young.👀
Poor Henry and poor suffering Liza. Great rendition of a fun classic.
With my wife and I both near eighty years old, this is an accurate portrayal of our everyday life!

Just his hand gestures are brilliant to tell the story. Fun!
I played the Harry Belafonte version to my 11 yr old Grandson the other day. He simply loves it. Sings it all day. Quality is timeless... 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻
My primary school choir performed this in the mid 1960's. It was such a hit that all the surrounding schools invited us perform at their school concerts. I'm from South Africa and was approximately 11 years old then.

There can hardly be a more brilliant performance of this old song. Well done you two!
