Yes she’s the one who seems to have the guitar chops, she really shows that in the new live song ‘Salt in the Wound’. I also feel more emotion from her and kinship to her. Her solo material could have come from my own life and soul, it’s uncanny the similar problems and demons she writes and sings about. Especially ‘Claws in my Back’. She shows more serious emotion openly here than the others. I wish her all the best.
@suz4359 Suz, please take a step back and go and ask their reason for the band name. I am confident you will change your mind. Bridgers told Vogue in a 2018 interview, “Men are taught to be entitled to space and that their ideas should be heard because they're great ideas and women are taught the opposite … so a 'boygenius' is someone who their whole life has been told that their ideas are genius.”
The couple of y'all pitting three girlbosses against each other are abt to catch these hands, and I'm only partially joking. Though I do agree that Lucy's vocal skills have been, historically, criminally slept on compared to the other boys. Hoping her killer vocals on the record will change that!
Do I spy an all female backing band? I love that such somber and heart-wrenching can be performed so joyously. It adds a different spin on the emotion.
This song has taken over my brain like a schoolgirl crush. Nice to know I can still get excited about new music at my advanced age. I never want to be one of those "all new music is crap" old people.
i love how much on the original track you can hear Lucy the most on the last verse but in this performance they decided to all sing it loudly together and i just love that for them because it’s good to change it up sometimes but every time i hear the track i always tear up when Lucy brings it all together at the end
They together are wonderful. But Julien Baker is very underrated, perhaps because she is more shy and does not have as commercially viable image as Phoebe and Lucy. She is a wonderful singer and the best musician of the trio. She makes me vibrate.
my absolute favourite for years now, the way she makes music speaks to my soul on such a deep level. vibrate is such a good word for it. the fact that she's born the day before me and is also on her sobriety journey is unspeakably inspiring
@@Puppy_Puppington uh no, it's just the band name. They ALL identify as girls and we just call them "the boys" because of their name and just the circumstances, nothing too deep.
I feel like all of the members of boygenius are tired of being reduced to their gender. It’s ok to just say that it was an incredible performance. They’re incredible musicians who just happen to be women.
@@user-oc7dd7oy5m it was that there were a lot of folks coding as feminine in that room. The backup folks may have been chosen to rep women power. Not a way of boxing them in as a girl group or something, why I said greatest musicians.
Am a 53 year old guy - never heard of these people until 2 days ago - this is amazingly - both the song and performance- a real moment in musical history
Glad it's not just me. it almost feels wrong to enjoy this band. Then Phoebe (guesting on The National's new album) said that middle aged men and teen girls unexpectedly have a lot in common.
to think that when she first heard the song, she wasn't really on board as the other 2 were because she didn't know what she could contribute to it. So glad she gave it a chance!

The three of them are absolutely captivating. Separate, they’re amazing musicians. Together, it’s absolutely mind blowing how cohesive and complimentary their voices, guitar work, and styles are. Long Live Boygenius!
i am broken by this song every time i hear it. Lucy's part after the bridge is soul-searing. anyways, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD, ALWAYS AN ANGEL NEVER A GOD
This is so fucking killer, everyone here is absolutely on point. Julien is a seriously great guitarist and then, when she sings….. 🤯 Having two bassists is literally revenge upon all the bands that eschew having a bass player altogether. 😝❤️🔥 Best part is Julien getting smoochies at the end. 🥰
I know another drummer commented already, but just have to also say- that drummer absolutely crushed it. This whole performance is absolutely legendary. Boygenius is balm for the soul. The songwriting, musicianship, their eclectic sound, the list goes on... But it's their love and support for each other that really moves me beyond words. It's like they're modeling the Divine Feminine elements of friendship for us all to absorb and emulate. THANK YOU Boys 🙏
fucking shit I'm shaking and sobbing I didn't expect such quantities of *beauty and emotion* what the fuck just happened to me? I love you Julien, Phoebe and Lucy you've pulled my heart and twirled it around with this one :")
The record is really helping me going through shitty family and mental health problems now, I can tell already that I'll remember these performances being my emotional support
Julien’s voice always gets me. Adding Phoebe and Lucy to that is just not fair to any other band right now trying to do something similar, because it just won’t ever touch this.
The part when Lucy starts singing over their Angel / God harmonies, is spine tingling and just gives me so much joy !!!! - The New Order / Cure type bass line is so cool too.
I'm a huge Cure fan and huge fan of melodic, propelling bass (even in my own music lol) and I definitely heard that dynamic here...glad to see someone else cite it as well.
I just love everything about them, I've been listening non stop to this record and their solo stuff for the past month or so, and I'm not nearly tired, these three are SO damn talented
They all killed it in this performance! That drummer was epic, and all the vocals were heartfelt. The lyrics ring true in every way... this is where we're at as women, as boys, as humans.
Ive been jamming this for a week straight on repeat. I look forward to mowing the lawn just so I can chill on this zero turn with this on the playlist. I can't be the only one...lol

A great musical collaboration between Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker. Every song I've heard from this album on XPN in Philly has been amazing. I know it's been years in the making, but sometimes you can't rush things and have let them unfold naturally. They F'ing nailed this. This is an album we needed. Please contribute more. Thanks.

I love that little guitar part that Julien plays after singing "drag racing through the canyon"
Right!

Lucy's voice in this performance was High Quality like the boys all always sound good but she absolutely murdered the big finish on this one
Her voice is so effing beautiful and stable
She's definitely my favourite. After night shift and body to flame I became a fan.
All three are great vocalists, but Lucy is an all time great singer. Like Aretha Franklin level. She will get her just dues eventually, rest assured.
Bridgers is the genius though 😎
