- Tom & James discuss the final plans for the XJC project ahead of the work starting.
With power plant and mechanical side of the project covered in Part 1, in this video they uncover further history on the XJC and discuss number of things including interior options and fuel tanks.
Tom knows this project won’t be for everyone, so pleads to the purists for support, will he secure their vote?
We hope you enjoy this episode and this will be last one without the effective use of microphones, so
we appreciate your continued support whilst we develop and grow the channel.

Great banter and not an ego trip. Looking forward to further updates.
Thanks for your positive feedback - we are enjoying making the videos!
Love to see Jags being given an upgrade, using parts that weren't available at the time. I've been flirting with the idea of a Jaguar Mark 2, I would definitely look at upgrading some of the components for a better ride, more power and more comfort.
Tom's family talk rings bells, my parents raced Minis, Mum towed her car with a mk4 Cortina, Dad (RIP) towed his with his Marina van. We didn't go on fancy holidays, Sunday was race day.
I would like to see a full resto or resto mod of this car. If that interior looked brand new! bam!
Hope you have had chance to catch up with the rest of the videos and see how the project has progressed. With this we have made a few subtle changes to the interior, but nothing radical!
Great to have another channel on Jaguar cars, nice xjc and I don’t see the problem with the engine swap at least it’s still a jag engine at the end of the day.
Thanks for your support Phil - hope you enjoy seeing the project unfold and lots of Jaguar content!
I've often thought that a better fuel tank solution would be a custom central tank with both filler inlets plumbed in. Or side tanks with a large diameter equalising pipe between them. No problem with switching tanks and the convenience of filling from either side.
Great project and I can't wait to watch the rest of the videos to completion. However, Tom, it would be great if you got a bluetooth mic you could wear and we could hear you a little better. Just saying...
Nice update on the project, and i look forward to the next episode already - loving the format with lots of banter and general enthusiasm.
Hope this channel gets the views it deserves one day!
Thanks for the positive feedback - much appreciated, and good hear you are enjoying the content so far! 👍
Good update Tom - thanks
Thanks Howdy - glad you enjoyed it!
Tom, the 4.2 is a prime candidate for this conversion. If it was a V12, then I'd be interested in seeing that upgraded, especially the transmission, rather than replaced. The standard 4.2 is a very "gentle" performer & that AJ16S is just what it needs. I think that car's been waiting its entire life for someone like you!
Thanks for the vote of confidence in the project! Hope you enjoy future videos…👍
I'm a Jag man, although fairly new to ownership but I've immersed myself in the community. I currently own an X351 XJ 3.0ltr supercharged portfolio which i love. The XJC is a bucket list car for me and I'd do exactly what you're doing to it. I'd go further, but what you're doing mechanically is spot on.
Thanks for the feedback and hope you are enjoying your new XJ!
Love it cant wait to see more the closer i get to forty the more jags excite me
Thanks Jude - the older you get the more temptation will grow! 🤣
Hi Tom. I think it will be a great restomod. Ultimately, it is all reversible at some point if a future owner chooses to do so. Can’t wait to get to see some of the strip down - and increase my knowledge of how everything under the bonnet fits together. Peter
Thanks for the feedback Peter and vote of support for what we are doing! 👍
I know I’m late to party but I’m excited by this
Hope you enjoy the series! There are 10 videos to work through! 👍👍
I'm neck deep in my own XJCv12 restoration project and just getting to the reassembly bit after having torn the whole car down... can't wait to see how this progresses & I hope yours goes quicker than mine!
Best of luck with your project 👍
I really looking forward to the mods on xjc 👍
Good to hear Peter! Hope you enjoy future videos.
It would be awesome to have some content on your Lister coupe, one of my dream motor cars (I want one!), plus what other vehicles (cars and bikes) you have in your own collection 😊
Yes - we plan to cover lots, and will be sure to include the Lister XJC (amongst other things!). We think it will be interesting to compare both the XJC RRR & the Lister XJC manual V12!
@@tomlenthallsworkshop Oh yess please 🙂
This car will be far better than the original, faster, more economical and generally more usable. I think it’s a fantastic project. I’m saying this as an owner of one. I keep mine original, because that’s how I like it and want it, but it is a massive pain in the arse!
🤣👍
Tom, please indulge yourself for our pleasure, and I hope the end result is as good as we all expect.
Thanks for the positive response! Don’t worry I will 🤣😂
I’m with you completely, keep it looking like it left the factory: it was always such a beautiful design. But improve the power train and running gear. It’s what Jaguar would have done had they made an XJ Coupe in the noughties 👌
The XJC has definitely aged well and hopefully we achieve the perfect balance of classic looks and more modern running gear! 👍
That is such a cool car. We don't really get many cool things here in Canada like you guys over there.
I am also blown away by the fuel switch, two separate tanks that aren't connected. Would that have been intended for two types of fuel for track purposes or just utilizing all the space available? I might be thinking too much into it lol. I am enjoying these videos.
Love the concept of the sc AJ engine. Keep the old xk for the future. Looking forward to the series. Please sort the audio the camera guy is so loud compared to Tom. PS also love the tech job you did to Harrys coupe. Awesome!
Thanks Joe, noted on the audio, we are working on it! Hope you enjoy seeing the project progress! 👍
I have had a nice XJC V12 the same colour scheme as your car for a whole 4 weeks. Great car. I am against doing restomods on the XJC as they are so rare. However I watched Part 1 and now Part 2 of what you are wanting to do with this car and I support it 100% - ideally nothing that cannot be changed back and minimal mods to the body and inside - I like the idea of the engine you are putting in and I am sure it will have better performance than a good V12 with far better fuel consumption.
It is your car - do what you want to it - with my full approval 👍
Many thanks for your support with the project. It will be interesting to see how it compares to a V12 manual XJC when it’s all complete. Glad to hear you are enjoying your XJC! 👍
What about the dark black wood finish of newer cars like the S-Type and X350 XJ’s. Not piano black but dark grey wood.
Tom give Alex 50% discount 😂
Ha ha….let’s thinks about that…nope! 🤣🤣
Don't forget some Partridge driving gloves !
Cameraman needs to not shout into the mike though and calm down a bit....
Glad you liked the Partridge reference! We are still working through Microphone quality and sound - so hopefully you will see an improvement in future videos.
Can you post the info on the fuel tank components that you found to be reliable so those of us to far away to bring our cars to your shop know what to buy and where to buy it?
are you going add additional strength to the chassis? They do flex being pillierless
Great update. So glad you're using a Jag engine. LoL. Please let us know what fuel switch-over equipment you use, I'd love to upgrade mine. Love the black over red paint. On a different subject, do you sell the Emerald ECU you used on Harry's V12?
Hi Jeff - we will be covering the fuel switch over equipment in more detail in a future video. Yes we can supply the emerald ECU - please contact info@tomlenthall.co.uk and we can give you more details. Thanks
@@tomlenthallsworkshop great, thanks.
Brilliant stuff - subscribed to this straight off!
No idea why anyone would object to this having a more recent AJ unit. At least it's not one of those cretinous redneck LS conversions and the supercharger will have it going down the road like a stabbed rat.
The only bit I'm not so sure about is the wheels. I just think a set of larger diameter steelies with the original chrome centre caps would give it a more graceful air while it hurtles off into the horizon, but that's a tiny detail really.
Can't wait to see lots more!
Thanks for the positive feedback - hope you enjoy watching the progress and other videos on the build! You will have to wait and see what we do with the wheels! 😉
If its your name on the logbook its yours to do with as you want and id rather see a XJC drive past then watch a video of it being dragged out a garage because it didnt work but still had its correct engine and box 👍
Thanks for the vote of confidence Chris! Fair point 🙏
if people have a problem with this car not being period correct they should look at Harry's car and see all the hassle (and money spent) he had - carbs that were correct but fell out of tune within 50 miles, replaced by period correct F.I. system that also didn't work to finally finding one that did work but wasn't from a Jag that enable him to drive the thing. Unless you want to just drag your car in and out of your garage and just look at the thing of course.
This conversion should be a good marriage of classic styling with the advantage of modern reliability, but we appreciate won’t be for every Jaguar enthusiast! 👍
Big Pete needs your help, please help Alex out, his a good egg
👍👍
pushing up daisies 🤣
It’s all a bit of fun! 🤩
Since when did Arthur Daley drive a XJC ?
Disgraceful. On my accountants life that’s unforgivable.😂😂
You are quite right he didn’t! But in Series 1-3 of Minder, the Jaguar of choice that Arthur drove was a series 2 XJ6 4.2 - registration number SNV 696M hence the compassion. The interior layout was broadly the same - except the rear obviously being a coupe! 👍
This is one of those projects where the creation is as much fun as the end use. Enjoy the journey and the end result. 😎
A year younger than me. But then I have just had an LS swap 😬
👍 hope you enjoy your new V8! 😉
