      Met your Grandad in 1995....spent a few days with him. I know all about this XJC and BL......BL never wanted to spend any money nor did they want to win.... 2nd..3rd etc was OK they said.

    I was at Silverstone in '76 and watched the "Big Cat" race. It was most impressive on the straights but I seem to recall that the brakes let it down when it reached the bends.

    Broadspeed's workshop was on Stratford Road in Birmingham, very near where I used to work.

    When I saw them racing at Zandfort they were fitted with water cooled breaks the car being quite heavy. Adding water made it even heavier ofcourse. Looked and sounded absolutely amazing and shame there wasn't more funding to make it a consistent winner. Beautiful looking car.

      in zandvoort they did not have water cooling for the brakes ,, they tested it on the 1976 car but never on the 77 car , it was outlawed for 1977, and the broadspeeds only ever raced in zandvoort in 1977

    The pictures of it in Germany are mine - my Boss bought the car, and another publicity bodyshell but aside from removing the dangerously old Speedline Magnesium wheels he did nothing with it until it was sold-on. I'm glad to see that it was restored and put back on the track rather than languishing in a museum as it had for many years. The Throttle-body injection system was 'Borrowed' from a Ferrari.

    Recognise a couple of the mechanics, most went to Andy Rouse Engineering when Broadspeed folded.

    Did you eventually make Part 2, covering the 1977 cars? I really enjoyed this first part and now I want to view the rest of the Broadspeed XJC history and what happened to them.

    Where is this car now? One purporting to be this was at a classic car restorers near me. Assume this is ex Phill Scrag ? I also heard one, poss the 76 car ( the one in tgis film ) was rescued from a scrap yard in Coventry

    • @modelmania825
      @modelmania825  2 года назад

      this car is with a private collector now yes it's the ex scragg car , no it was not in the scrapyard , this car was given back to jaguar in 1977 and it was repainted to look like the 77 car and put in the coventry motor museum ,, later sold to someone in germany and he sold it to scragg ,, the car from the scrapyard is chassis nr 2 ( the bitsa car ) that is actualy not a broadspeed car , but was build up in the 1980s from spare parts ,, that car is in france now and for sale for over a million euro for a car that is not even a real broadspeed car but that is not this car , the one in the video is the ONLY 1976 car

      Thanks for reply, the car i mentioned was at Ian Tyrrells in Cheshire about 3 years ago undergoing restoration. Andy Rouse and Derek Bells autographs on roof. I understand this (car no 1) became test mule for 77 cars as it had power steering.
